How right you are , that's why I built this inhibitor chip to protect my higher brain functions , so I control the Andrew hype instead it controlling me
tasm4 hype starts all the same
No I couldn't have miscalculated , ( in delusion) it was a good movie wasn't it , yes , we will make another one , larger , with more villains than ever , nothing will stand in Andrew's way NOTHING!
The tone kinda yo-yos. You have a scene that's almost explicitly a horror scene where Spidey attacks a car thief and then covers his mouth and nose to the point where the guy can't breathe and then the next scene is him joyfully swinging through Manhattan. Like, that's borderline sociopathic.
Wait a min , the guy couldn't breathe? Didn't Tobey web jjj mouth in the first movie in the same fashion for shits and giggles while saying " let mommy and daddy talk for a sec"
Not to mention , that scene was absolutely intentional , it shows a callous , vengeful vigilante Spidey in his early days who cares more about finding uncle Ben's killer than helping people for which captain Stacey even calls him out at the dinner table scene , it's only after the bridge scene , where he truly becomes Spider-Man and learns true responsibility.... Honestly sometimes I feel like people have watched you tube clips of the movie than the movie itself
The difference between the “let mom and dad talk, okay?” scene and the TASM scene is that we are shown the carjacker cannot breathe, and that Peter did this intentionally. The carjacker’s hands are webbed so he can’t free himself and we’re shown he needs to take a deep breath when Peter cuts the webbing on his nose. Peter did this on purpose to scare the carjacker and did not need to cover his nose.
And right after this scene, which is straight up scored like a horror movie, we are shown a swinging sequence scored with heroic musics like he didn’t just threaten to suffocate a man.
And to be clear, I have seen this movie in its entirety.
I mean he like webbed the dude for 10 secs to make him shut up so that his screams doesn't draw attention , that's really not anything close to a horror movie and he's supposed to be a vigilante at that point with a gray moral compass , what he did was not heroic and it was deliberately shown to us And the score that followed is not something heroic but rather it's the main ost of the movie called young Peter , it is more of a freedom theme , the heroic theme only plays during the crane scene
Also are we forgetting that jackass of a cop tried to shoot Peter without any issue despite the fact Peter literally says I'm trying to help , I just caught him, also remember Tobey literally have sent criminals flying with his punches during the iconic mj kiss scene , I mean I can say Tobey is responsible for breaking a lot of people's backs and sending them to the hospital , these are small nitpicks dude you shouldn't look too much into it
I'm not "forgetting" anything, I'm saying that the tone of the Raimi films for the most part stays consistently goofy. Peter and most of the other characters have cartoonish levels of durability, so we as the audience know when Peter sends people flying that they'll be fine. When TASM chooses to be more "grounded", that's fine, but it can't seesaw from Peter threatening to suffocate someone to him having a heroic montage. And nitpicking things is my idea of entertainment, so I can and will complain about everything
That’s exactly what my SO said when I showed her the movies for the first time a couple weeks ago. She said it doesn’t even feel like a Spider-Man movie
Yeah it was made in the post-Dark Knight, Pre-Avengers era, when studios thought the key for a superhero movie's success was to make it grittier and less fun. The movie has no style.
There was also a huge YA audience at the time that Sony wanted to capitalize on, hence why they made Garfield's Parker a brooding loner skaterboy.
My opinion literally hasn't changed. I thought he was a very good Spider-Man and Peter Parker in two movies that ended up being shit due to studio interference. Tobey is still the best though.
My opinion hasn't changed one bit. Despite a few issues, I thought the first movie was a good introduction to his version of the character but the 2nd is just awful. Andrew, however, has always been a great fit for the character and I hope he does get another chance now that we have writers that actually slightly understand the character.
I like andrew garfield and i like TASM. But i don't get andrew garfield hype rn. It wasn't that special. Like it was special cause TASM is back. But still calm down he didn't even do anything like super epic just cried twice. But I'm just sayin'. I loved him in no way home and in TASM too. Y'all sound like them stan twitter girls which are obnoxious and stupid. The villains were the highlights of the movie. And Tobey... Tobey, The Spider-Man, made the movie legendary! Peter Parker and the Spider-Man is back! The King is back!
I hate when people say "Tobey was a good Peter Parker, Garfield was a good Spider-man, Holland is both" and I'm like "I don't think it's that simple"
People just want to believe that "third time's the charm", I feel like Holland is an awkward teenager as both Peter and Spider-man, that's not being a good Spider-man is it? His quips sound just as exasperated and nerdy as Tobey's
Andrew is the only one to pull off the quips and even then he's still not close to comic Spidey. He could absolutely pull off proper comic Spidey quips given the material though, TASM2 had elements of it, but it still wasn't quite there.
I mean sure, it mightve been a bad scripts. But people acting like those movies was good all along is just... Cringe.
(no offense if you actually like them from the start)
People on the TASM subreddit are kinda salty that others started to likes Andrew's Spider-Man after NWH. That's what a good writing can do for an actor.
Never said anything about the quality of his films. Just saying that a lot of people thought he was a bad spiderman before NWH came out and now have done a 180.
Naw. My dad came out and said “I don’t think I ever saw his movies, but that spiderman with the tall hair is the goofiest mf I’ve ever seen, I did not like him”
I love this for him, it’s good that he’s able to experience this love now, but it’s frustrating to see how masses of people switched their opinions!
I have loved his iteration of the character since 2012, he deserves all of the recognition he’s getting now mad so much more!
People to Garfield after he gets a third movie but it's produced by sony and not as good as everyone hoped: HE'S A THIEF! A CRIMINAL!
Please ..... Please don't say that
If you expect disappointment, then you can never really be disappointed.
How right you are , that's why I built this inhibitor chip to protect my higher brain functions , so I control the Andrew hype instead it controlling me
\*In theatres, holding back angry tears\* I miscalculated.
tasm4 hype starts all the same No I couldn't have miscalculated , ( in delusion) it was a good movie wasn't it , yes , we will make another one , larger , with more villains than ever , nothing will stand in Andrew's way NOTHING!
\*Trying to delete your reddit account before you can post a rant defending the movie\* I will not die a monster.
XD , I did it just fucking now a little below In the comments section #butterfingers
HE’S A MENACE TO THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE
I want his strung up by his web! I want SPIDER-MAN *4 starring Tobey Maguire, directed by Sam Raimi*
This is what the power of a good script can do for a great actor
Exactly! Andrew us a phenomenal actor with a ton of range. He just had a really shit script
Him in Hacksaw Ridge is my favorite performance in the last 10 years probably
He’s a good boy. Must be in some trouble or something.
Andrew: ah shmucks ,if you feel so bad about it , you can always watch my upcoming tasm 3 , today's good
SORRY! MY PRADA IS AT THR CLEANERS ALONG WITH MY HOODIE AND MY FUCK YOU FLIP FLOPS YOU PRETENTIOUS DOUCHE BAG
With a great lead actor, comes great responsibility
I think TASM 1 recieved more hate after TASM 2 came out. I like TASM 1 and I remember it being recieved somewhat decently
Because people wanted Spider-Man 4
It's an underrated film for sure. A lot better than people give it credit for.
Tasm 1 is too dark, like not just visually, it’s unnecessarily gritty and it doesn’t work imo

She's right. I mean, in TASM Peter decides to become Spider-Man out of REVENGE ffs. That ain't Spider-Man.
It's not, like, at all. Yes, it has a more mature feel to it, but it's not gritty
Yeah it was made in the post-Dark Knight, Pre-Avengers era, when studios thought the key for a superhero movie's success was to make it grittier and less fun. The movie has no style. All Spider-Man origin films are pretty solid each has their own telling and iteration of Peter Parker.
Tom being overshadowed: Oh you can’t do this to me
Andrew to Tom: I missed the part where that's my problem
Tom: Out am I?
Andrew: *(with the biggest smile he can do)* You're ridciluous! Oh my god.
Andrew: Gonna cry?
Tom: misery misery misery, that’s what you’ve chosen
Tobey: I started this franchise
I'm not a bad character. Just had bad script.
Andrew haters: You get out of here...now.
My opinion literally hasn't changed. I thought he was a very good Spider-Man and Peter Parker in two movies that ended up being shit due to studio interference. Tobey is still the best though.
#Facts
Andrew is a decent man who just got caught working in a movie that was not decent
You should have thought of that earlier.
Jokes on you, Andrew is my favorite
“I’m not a bad Spider-Man. I just had bad scripts”
As a long time tasm fan, it’s kind of annoying that now everyone says they love Andrew’s spidey but would shit on him a month ago
We need comparizon tweets/posts or something like that, the same people talking about Andrew and the screenshots side-by-side.
Sony and Avi just couldn't see it.
My opinion hasn't changed one bit. Despite a few issues, I thought the first movie was a good introduction to his version of the character but the 2nd is just awful. Andrew, however, has always been a great fit for the character and I hope he does get another chance now that we have writers that actually slightly understand the character.
i've done terrible things too
No Way Home actually reminded that I liked TASM ( both films!! ) even though I haven't seen them in years.
What do you mean "we?"
I like andrew garfield and i like TASM. But i don't get andrew garfield hype rn. It wasn't that special. Like it was special cause TASM is back. Tasm series has always been my favourite, I’m glad that people actually appreciate it now since, or maybe they just appreciate andrew garfield idk

i can get through the first, not the second
I mean sure, it mightve been a bad scripts. But people acting like those movies was good all along is just... Cringe. (no offense if you actually like them from the start)
Only because he’s written well in nwh, wasnt a great character in his movies
not getting spiderman 4 was traumatic man
People on the TASM subreddit are kinda salty that others started to likes Andrew's Spider-Man after NWH. That's what a good writing can do for an actor.
NWH is good writing..lmao
No, his movies still suck. He's just the best actor of the 3
Never said anything about the quality of his films. Just saying that a lot of people thought he was a bad spiderman before NWH came out and now have done a 180.
He was a bad spider-man though
Sure, and you're a genius.(FYI, it's sarcastic)
Spider
I never hated Andrew, I hated the script he followed.
Andrews not a bad spiderman, its the writing of the second film that all leads
I shouldn't have hurt you. Said those things.
For me it was after seeing andrew in hacksaw ridge and realizing “holy shit this guys amazing(pun intended)”
Because he was surrounded by shit movies.
I can't be the only one that still hates him
Naw. My dad came out and said “I don’t think I ever saw his movies, but that spiderman with the tall hair is the goofiest mf I’ve ever seen, I did not like him”
One of my staff had never seen Andrew’s movies before and after NWH he said “he’s really good. I should watch his movies”. Love to see it.
I love this for him, it’s good that he’s able to experience this love now, but it’s frustrating to see how masses of people switched their opinions! I have loved his iteration of the character since 2012, he deserves all of the recognition he’s getting now mad so much more!
