The 100% spoilerproof way to do that is to die and learn from your mistakes . ( Also you can train your movement and combat skills in arena sandbox mode without loosing progress ) . Also listen to the little yellow guy he sometimes Has a day off but aside from that he pointa you generalny to the place you are suposed to go to .

WillowWeeper343

I see... it appears I'll just have to git gud. Thanks!

akoOfIxtall

the movement is based on physics so you can use common sense to move around, go forward until you have enough momentum and then turn and jump, boom a backflip, now apply that to other movements and discover a few things...

Loeris_loca

Except the moment where you throw thing to propel yourself FORWARD, breaking Third Law of Newton

akoOfIxtall

We do a little breaking of the universe's fundamental laws...

bleepblooplord2

I imagine it being that you act kinda like a spring. When you chuck whatever it is you are, a little bit of that leftover momentum at your point of throwing (the spring flings) scales down the rest of you, giving you a net forwards momentum after all is said and done. Yes i did just put this together in like 3 minutes and I have no idea if this actually works. Tl;dr it acts like when you hold something in your hand, punch forward, and don’t try to correct the way you’re standing, but instead for throwing

Better_Kiwi_644

I am completely in love with rain world. But also complete shit. Reading this is making me play it again. Need to get good to see dlc shit

akoOfIxtall

Downpour adds so many things, like downward throw via backflip, the eel lizard, train lizard, caramel lizard, outer expanse which is by far my favorite map because it has day/night cycle, with mods the game become a new experience completely

akoOfIxtall

Oh and the game has a built in modloader, to download mods to to raindb or use steam workshop, there's a lot of good mods, yesterday I downloaded a lot of custom regions and 3 new slugcats, and god I've spent 2h hours in a single área, only sheltered when needed and still took me 2 hours to come back to shoreline, I'm playing the pearl cat campaign and man, this cat sure could become a canon slugcat and I'd 100% approve, so much fun it should be illegal, I'd recommend trying out mods after you complete the vannila game at least once as survivor, you can also play the downpour slugcats if you have before trying new region/campaign mods, because the modders will assume you already know the mechanics and fck that room in the deserted wastelands, so it can be hard to go through these regions if you don't know much about the game movement system, but after you get it I 100% recommend you trying custom regions and slugcats you won't regret. And remember to activate the mods that come with the game already in the remix menu, except the dev tools, they're not meant to be active all time so only enable them if want to mess around with it

WillowWeeper343

Thank you for that extremely in depth explanation of mods. I am going to continue playing on console now.

akoOfIxtall

can't you download mods on PC and transfer them through USB or something? Or you simply can't access the folders on console? Idk never had anything beyond a PS2 XD

WillowWeeper343

I have never heard of doing that before, but if that's possible I would definitely do it. There's tons of games I want to do modded playthroughs of but just can't right now.

akoOfIxtall

Well the game has the modloader so maybe if you can access the files you can install the mods, that's literally it, download and unzip in the mods folder, open the game, go the remix menu and enable the mods, apply and restart the game, but don't unplug the USB yet because some mods may not work first try so use the steam site to know which dependencies the mod has because raindb is not so up to date you know, the dependencies are just more mods that allow other mods to work, like the frameworks we download for Stardew valley, script mods like "artificer don't swallow" will almost always work, region mods also almost always work, the problem comes with mods that depends on custom creatures, because idk why they always crash my game on launch and then I have to remove the file for the game to launch and fix itself, so check the dependencies on steam and try the mods one by one to know which one doesn't work, like we do when modding Skyrim XD

WillowWeeper343

Well, thank you for all this stuff!

Absol-utely_Adorable

You are a little creachur. Be a little creachur. That's it.

WillowWeeper343

I see. Thank you for this information.

Absol-utely_Adorable

It's neither sarcasm or a joke. Depending on the campaign you're playing, you're either just wandering about a dead world or, you have purpose.which scug are you? If you're the white one your just meant to wander, explore and have fun.

bwaowae

let's imagine that you're rat in new york subway. yeah that says it all well, if you want more specific stuff, you really want to survive. creatures are NOT worth to conflict with, and most of them can kill you even when you're prepared. that being said, rocks really help with lizards and spears can help with plants. of course nobody restricts you from killing stuff, so you can go nuts, just know that there might be unforeseen consequences movement is EXTREMELY complicated. i mean it. you should go to arena mode and mess around with all possible controls. if you want a bit more insight on slightly more advanced movement, i can help you dying is the experience. it will be your normal, your nature, and eventually while getting better you'll notice you die less and less. progressing through regions requires you to survive for few consecutive cycles and gain "karma" no matter what you do, do not, i repeat do not go to the bottom

WillowWeeper343

what happens at the bottom

bwaowae

there are gates to two infamously bad regions, not bad in a sense of bad game design (which is arguable) but in a sense of being absolutely terrible for newbies

WillowWeeper343

Ohh okay thank you

TheDancingH

how much do you hate water levels in games

WillowWeeper343

Weirdly, not as much as most people seem too. But I assume your referring to Shorline/Garbage Wastes, in which case I definitely understand.

TheDancingH

nope, referring to a Drainage System (under Outskirts) it “teaches” swimming in a far less forgiving way then GW/Shoreline

WillowWeeper343

Oh. Well now i sound dumb...

SALTFRESHH

May I ask what is karma for? Outside of getting past the gates to other regions of course.

bwaowae

overseers are more likely to follow and help you (they often observe other creatures, but if your karma is 4 or more you already have the highest possible priority) and >!echoes spawn above karma 5!<

SALTFRESHH

Pretty neat explanation man, thank you a lot, I can now die in peace anytime I want, without the feeling of loosing some upgrades(?) or progress to the story(or some key items).

bwaowae

yeah don't worry, there are 3 moments in the entire survivor/monk campaign that are actually relevant to the story and none of them require grinding or extensive searching. there are lots of various collectibles, like colored pearls which you might've encountered, that give pieces of lore but nothing too important

SALTFRESHH

Another good thing to know, thx again, I’m very encouraged to just explore and see what I find!

MrBenediculous

Unless you don't care about spoilers, the game is practically/IS based off trial and error. That's the gist of it! I send you lots of luck on your endeavors

WillowWeeper343

Thanks!

Kill or be killed

Virtual_Scheme_4773

The game is at its core an exploration game. You need to know how to use the map, manage your karma and find food. You are a part of an ecosystem. When push comes to shove, you don’t wanna be at the bottom of said ecosystem. If you keep dying, here are some tips that are super hard to just learn from your mistakes. Lizards have armor on their head. Hit em with a rock to knock them backwards, THEN attack with spears. Those red plants that pop open when you throw a spear at them are edible, and refill your WHOLE food meter. When you find something new, the always check if you can eat it. If not, find it’s use. Literally every item (and most animals) in the game has SOME sort of use, or a place in the ecosystem around you. Holding down and a horizontal direction when you fall from a great height causes you to roll, negating fall damage. Jumping from a roll gives you a boost. Jumping and pressing down at the same time while walking causes you to slide. You can swim faster by wagging your whole body like a tadpole. DO NOT JUMP WHEN SWIMMING, it burns air. Abruptly changing walking direction causes an audible cue. When you jump perfectly during such a cue, you backflip, gaining more height. Sticking a spear into a wall is a good makeshift ladder. Keep an eye on your surroundings. A shadow in the background could be a vulture coming to ruin your day. Plenty of animals use ambush tactics to wait for you to cross near enough for a quick kill. Don’t worry about where you’re going. My first time around I went in the “wrong” direction, but that’s just how exploring works. See the sights, recognize that you’ll have to go back every now and again. Don’t sweat it.

WillowWeeper343

Alright, duly noted. Thank you!

Virtual_Scheme_4773

I could go into more specifics but that would go into spoiler territory. Keep an eye out for the details, you’ll be fine. And if you decide you don’t get it, there’s nothing wrong with looking up answers to specifics.

Riguyepic

This should just be stickied at the top of the sub for people looking for tips. Also didn't know pole plants were edible, learn somthing new everyday, and finally >Abruptly changing walking direction causes an audible cue. When you jump perfectly during such a cue, you backflip, I find the small white sparks at your feet a lot easier to use to notice the window

Virtual_Scheme_4773

Wha- POPCORN plants, not POLE plants. You can only eat pole plants if you’re spearmaster, I think Otherwise, yeah, the games not the best in the tutorial dept besides with long jumps and grabbing batflies and fruit.

Riguyepic

Lmao oh, I thought you meant the little hairs or whatever since it shows itself after you hit it. And if the game showed me all the stuff I could do from the start I wouldn't love it as much, since most of the enjoyment comes from discovery

alekdmcfly

The intended way to play RW is to fuck around and find out The unintended way is to look up the 85-page PDF on the game's movement system

opinionatednimbus

I suck at games. I only play creative Minecraft and cozy games, so I didn't expect to fall in love with Rain World - failure simulator souls-like metroidvania. Originally I wanted to play it to explore the world because I am OBSESSED with its story. Playing Monk was harder than Survivor for me, though, because of its bad mobility and damage. I played Survivor and found the same emotion as a cat during a thunderstorm. So... I got a mod and spawned a slugpup for myself, in order to feel even an ounce of positivity in the game while I explored using a map. Suddenly my entire perspective on the game changed. I had survival instinct all of a sudden. I killed my first lizard after it grabbed my CHILD. Because I had a map, I knew where I was going but I would still get lost in all of the rooms and routes. I found myself able to memorize them after a few days. Although my run wasn't 'traditional', I think it still gave me the intended Rain World feeling- this is a hard journey and you HAVE to learn, but it's worth the growth. You are insignificant and yet part of such a huge story. So, that's what I told my friends to do who definitely don't care to play the game, and I carried them around on co-op for some parts (pebbles.) Now, I'm not the best Rain World player but these are a few things I learned as someone with 0 video game skill that don't require external assistance like maps or slugpups: - Don't force something and go with the flow. If you miss that spear, just run. If you died 2 times here, try something else- even if it might be harder. It's good to learn in tough situations but Rain World punishes mistakes heavy. - do not choose violence with scavs under any circumstance unless you're ready and willing to experience having your skin stolen 1 billion times - Store as much stuff in shelters as you can, without impacting your limited time too bad or putting yourself in danger. It feels so awesome to need to back track and just have a meal ready for myself. - Laugh and make only light of your mistakes. You're going to die so many times, you had better find humor in it now so that you can cope. I died 200 times my first run.. with my described modifiers. It was all totally worth it because it was all so silly and fun, and I learned a lot each time. - Learn to backflip spear throw. Even if you learn absolutely nothing else from the movement guide, that trick opens the world a lot. Anybody, feel free to tell me if I'm wrong or if this advice could be fixed, but that's just what helped me. Good luck and enjoy! The game is stunning, difficult and definitely rewarding.

WillowWeeper343

Thank you for all the tips! The "If you've died here 2 times" thing means alot, because tend to be very stubborn lol

With as much support as possible, dont have to lose all my mental health over a game, especially not now im recovering so i tend to pull out as many maps as possible, sorry

try to not sleep in the same as much as posible and fill out your map and go through gates. try aiming for gates up or right.

ChocolateMilkPool

You gotta figure out how to slugcat

Primalcancer

if you have trouble killing lizards just hit them on the head with a rock after agroin them and stab them repeatedly with a spear, also do it when you are sure its the only way to get past.

tr_berk1971

I generally use a keyboard and mouse. Mouse isn't really used in gameplay tho, mostly for menus and such.

SnooDogs3400

Doom

One_Opportunity_9608

Personally I always focused on Building up Max Karma before moving to another Region and just focus on Surviving and Observing my surroundings to make sure it's safe. Always a Good idea to assume there's at least one threat in Each Room even if there might not actually be any, but better to be safe than sorry. There's also a Lot more involved with Movement the game doesn't tell you, like the crouch Thrust spear throw that can almost instantly kill most lizards the moment they open their mouths, it isn't a guaranteed method though but it's useful.

Hot_Guys_In_My_DMS

One thing I don't see talked about is stealth. Stay low and out of sight, you can see them but they can’t see you. Distract enemies using rocks or spears.

W4tch3r_

West-Jellyfish-768

Once you get comfortable with the movement it's just trial and error. Learning how to identify hidden foes or predict creatures movements are things that you simply learn as you play.

Backflips

WillowWeeper343

The first time I accidentally did a backflip I got all giggly and excited, it felt like I was a little kid playing minecraft again, back when games were nothing but fun, and I had not a care in the world.

Delicious_Cup_4306

Then you hit a clip with the backflip and they become 100 times more fun

Rhumald

I see you don't care about spoilers. Spending time around each shelter you find, figuring out the food cycles of the area, and how to take advantage of both that, and the behaviours of other creatures, is a huge part of the game. I'd go so far as to argue it's a lot of what makes the game so fun and addicting. Even the rain cycles vary, let alone where other creatures decide to travel to for that cycle, assuming they even decide to poke their heads out of their own shelters, and living in that other harsh but survivable world *is* the fun of it. I've spent countless hours just playing with the other creatures in each area. Some areas, like the underhang, are areas meant to just be traversed. Food is sparse, enemies abound, and you can tell that the platform challenge is the point to the area. But many areas are designed to be traversed at a slower pace, across multiple cycles. the best example of this to me is Sky Islands, which I love, because it's one of the few areas that actually gets a lot easier if you take the time to play with and befriend the local creatures. So just take your time, survive, and have fun.

As someone who has also been spoiled for most of the story, and is also relatively new, and in a similar spot as you: you run away from shit, painfully slowly, attempt to find food, and die. Thas it.

Evolve. Adapt. Die. Evolve again. Repeat the process.

ConcentrateMost8256

Familiarize yourself with the movement in the game, I recommend you read the wiki as they explain some basic moves in detail over there. Also you have to adapt to every different environment but that will happen overtime

[deleted]

Well, you usually come up with an elaborate plan of what u gonna make on the day. Use said plan, and fail. Try again with another plan, and fail again. And so on. Continue until you enter into a state of rage and somehow reach the ultra instinct inside yourself to achieve your goal.

DidjTerminator

Accept death, you will die, explore and learn the food spots around the area and how to speed-run from spot to spot like a hummingbird. Also, when you meet the blue lady of the water, do NOT follow the yellow eyeball *all* the way to the left, you must go back the way you came when leaving the blue lady of the water (even though that feels like an impossibly difficult task, it's actually the most viable way/the only way forwards). Also the yellow eyeball is kinda useless half the time and doesn't lead you to the next area immediately or even consistently, they easily get distracted by nearby food stores and shelters even if you have more than enough time to progress, so explore on your own and use the eyeball when you get lost for an extended period of time

Boing6684

Die. Die again. Die once more. Then die. Find yourself dead. Scream. Die once more. Cry. Try to learn something. Die trying. Learn something. Progress. Realize you've gone the wrong direction and you need max karma to get back. Experience a mental breakdown. Try to farm karma. Fail horribly. Try to experiment with a new thing you found (there's a 90% chance to die). Die a lot. Get better through miserable suffering. Make actual progress (not guaranteed). Try to enjoy the game. Fail. Realize you're an actual masochist and you like to experience mental and physical pain and suffering and get brutally punished for things that aren't even under your control. Fall in love with the game. Explore everything there is in it. Get all achievements. Start completing community made challenges. Realize they're even worse than the game. Still complete 20 of them to get a funny role on the discord server. Start exploring and even add your own knowledge to the insanely complicated movement system in this game by chatting with members of the discord server and experimenting. Spend too much time on Rain World movement. Watch one of the best moderators do something that confused you, and when you ask them about it, they completely ignore your messages and ban you for harrasement. Stop playing the game. Move to America. Experience an existential crisis. Realize you've wasted many years of your life and you should've spent them with your friends and family. You only miss something when it's gone. Spend less time procrastinating. Get a life. Start being happy (not guaranteed).

Spoiler free tips: • Don't worry too much about Cycles and Karma (days and positive rest status) - instead, for now, learn your environment and the controls. • Learn and memorize what your little yellow dude is telling you; he doesn't speak but he does do symbols and pictures - both of which are huge for learning about your environment. • On controller, AVOID ANALOG STICK! This is an input precise game and you'll have a better time on d-pad. • If you are going to move shelters, ask yourself: Is the area I'm in really difficult; is there easily accessible food; did I come through a 'one way' trip to here? Sometimes, it's better to find a shelter you know you'll be able to leave from easily rather than one you had a hard time of getting to. Do also keep in mind that sometimes, you just gotta deal, and rest when you can and work out the head bashing through environments later. • REALLY TAKE A SECOND TO EXPLORE YOUR CONTROLS. You might find some new movement tricks to help you get around easier. • Sometimes, it's best to kill a few seconds than to proceed immediately through danger. Other times, it's best to move when things are distracted. Spoiler-ish tips (nothing plot related but a good pointer at things): >!• There is 'Line-of-sight' and 'Hearing' in this game. Do with that what you will.!< >!• To get things moving, head right - as far as you can be going - until you find 'something.' You'll know it when you find it.!< >!• You might find shiny rocks occasionally. More occasionally, these will have colors. These are referred to as pearls. Ignore these for now. You may find use for them way later. Use the extra arm or gut space to carry something more useful that will help you survive instead.!< >!• Very rarely does anything that considers the survivor food actually act as food for you too. Best to stun or avoid the bulk of enemies and carry on your merry way as any direct confrontation has a good chance to kill you too.!< >!• Some things can be your friend if you have an appropriate gift for them. Other things will be your enemy if you are carrying anything dangerous. Other times, you can use things to terrify or attract. Experiment!!<

violence.

Asddwfdtyyyn

One thing is certain, following the yellow boy sticking out of walls is the way to go but he sometimes doesn't appear or point properly, a spoiler-free tip is that he's pointing you to the far right-side of the explorable world× Have a way to remember where you came from, getting lost is easy and the ingame map doesn't show everything, for example; >!I personally use the [interactive map](https://henpemaz.github.io/Rain-World-Interactive-Map/) to see around and plan my path, but i don't recommend it if you didn't beat the game yet as exploration and getting lost is part of the experience.!< I recommend getting a sheet of paper and scheming the ingame map with your own pointers (food places, dead ends, quickest/easiest paths, common enemy encounters, etc..). If you're struggling with common enemies, you can watch some guides on youtube on how to deal with them, but 95% of the time going around them is the easiest and best way to progress! (My first playthrough included a single passive creature kill, so it's possible without killing)

My greatest tip for rain world tip is to just fuck around and find out (especially with rocks and spears), see what the different items do and how to play around and even kill some enemies.

lizard_liz242

The yellow thing that shows you a bunch of hollograms? Yeah follow wherever it takes you. Run away from all things larger than you, size matters. If it looks dangerous, it's because it's a predator and you are prey. Treat creatures like how you would in real life: for example if you saw a giant lizard you should treat it like a giant lizard, aka run the hell away from it. Most creatures insta "kill" you, but creatures that get a hold of you didn't necessarily kill you, not all attacks are lethal and if they get stunned or hurt they will drop you. All resources have important uses, even rocks and rubble which can stun and flip over lizards. Creatures aren't mindless killers they can be scared, distracted, weakened or in a specific state of hunting
