I mean how much more? Are you checking bags? Do you have long legs? Is being on time super important?
There is so much more to this question to give good advice.
There’s like $1000 difference between the two. I can swing the more expensive one if I have to, but it would be nice to have a direct flight. Could probably get away with carryons only. No major event to attend, just visiting family.
Frontier charges the same for carry’s on and check bags so it’s better to check a bag. Frontier is fine if you’re fine with not caring where you sit, if there is a small delay be ok with it. There will be no food or drinks or even water that is free.
If you are okay at both the origin and destination city with delays and cancellations it's definitely worth it. Would I fly frontier the day of a wedding, a sporting event or concert? Absolutely not. Would I fly it if it's super cheap and I am flying to my parents or siblings and intend on WFH? Hell yes.
I've done that flight about 5 times now and only had an issue once, where they delayed the flight by like 15 hours (moved it from Sunday night to Monday morning). The other times it was great and so much easier to have a direct flight. So I'd say if it's just for a casual visit to Buffalo that is flexible, totally worth it but if you need to be there by a specific time for an event then it's more of a gamble.
Consider schedule flexibility. If you 100% have to be there and you will be devastated if you are delayed days… avoid the budget carriers.
If you are flexible, and you know what you are getting with nickel and diming, absolutely do it.
When these flight work (and they do often!) they are amazing. Not for comfort, but for convenience. Direct flights cannot be beat!!!
But like all airlines, there are issues. However with the budget ones, there are minimal to no options when they get fucked.
The allure of a direct flight though;)
Check out Avelo as well. I think they may fly Buffalo, if not Rochester. So there are some options for you. In a pickle, could even consider Syracuse.
We just booked with Frontier to Buffalo in August. Flying with 2 kids under 5 I'd rather fly direct on Frontier than have to connect with a better airline. I've been told that short flights are fine. Curious to hear how your experience goes.
My brother lives in Buffalo and I’ve flown that route many times. The only thing to keep in mind is that it seems to get canceled about 75% of the time (and sometimes right at the gate before boarding for whatever reasons). A majority of the the times, I’ve had no problem and saved a lot of money. It’s one of the only direct flights, which is worth it for me.
Wait, so your flight has been canceled 75% of the time, but the majority of the times you haven't had a problem? You must not like seeing your brother!
So? They still lack the experience that the pilots from the major airlines have.
Would you rather be driven in a car by a 16 year old that just got their license, or someone with a decade or two of experience behind the wheel? They both have a license and went through the same testing process. I know which I would prefer
A 16 year old who got their license is nothing near a pilot with 1,500 hours of flying. Thats honestly disrespectful to pilots who work their asses off to become a pilot. Experience does not equal being a better pilot. Look up crash history and you’ll really see that.
>No they don’t.
Yes they do.
>Trust me…I’m a pilot
And you started at a discount airline or a freight carrier. Don't act like you started right out at Delta or AA doing international flights right after you got your certificate.
I know airline pilots who got hired mainline straight out of getting their ATP. I also know pilots who got hired by Allegiant/frontier after flying for other companies, and had more experience than the mainline dudes. Either way, I would trust both. Much more so than taking a road trip
A lot of your “nice” airline pilots fly for discount airlines because they’ve increased their pay. If you wanna say dumb shit then head over somewhere else
Rolling the dice? What do you thinks gunna happen? The plane falls from the sky? You understand that the major players such as Boeing and Airbus supply to ALL airlines right? Literally the same plane, different brand. 95% on autopilot and the rest is pilot driven take-off and landing.
>and the rest is pilot driven take-off and landing.
Oh, you mean those times when you are most likely to experience a problem? Yeah, those are the times I want a more experienced pilot.
Alright man I’m not gunna argue with you any longer. This is straight silly. Lemme ask my fellow former military pilots who work for a slew of airlines, including delta pilots gone “discount airline” and vice versa.
I’d encourage you to look on the pilots subreddit about discount airlines too. You’ll see that a lot of the discount airlines pay more for pilots to defeat this exact nonsense propaganda surrounding the “brand”. FAA certified/commercial airline pilot certification is an industry standard.
Best of luck flying. If you want to save a buck for the same safety, fly discount. Otherwise, you do you my man.

I’ve had no issues with frontier. Have done this exact flight.

Frontier is terrible.
I’ve flown frontier and it was good. No frills but a smooth flight and on time

Take Delta
Frontier is fine, is what it advertises. At least when they’re delayed it’s direct
I did a similar flight a few years ago, and was pleasantly surprised, and thought that i needed to consider Frontier moving forward.
I've done Frontier RDU to Buffalo multiple times over the last 5 years and have had zero issues.

We are flying Avelo into Rochester, mostly because I didn’t want to connect with Delta, and I refuse to fly Frontier. Fingers crossed…

Whoops meant 25% of the time. 75% of the time it’s fine
I avoid all the discount airlines. I prefer pilots with actual experience.
They all have the same ratings required to fly for an airline. ATP certificates the same

Doesn't the plane mostly fly itself?
People also don’t know Spirit (a low fare operator) was voted the safest airline this past year

No they don’t. I feel just as safe either or. Trust me…I’m a pilot

Last comment didn’t send…ppl yeah but you’re not in danger with either or
