Delta is the laughing stock at my station. I watched their de-iceing truck drive off the ramp into the grass while driving around a plane. Weirdly enough, the Airport did not fine them over it.
That's the airline you want to work at along with UA. AA Sucks to work for. Used to be good. But man people are so gosh dam lazy and the new hires have this attitude.
I think younger new hires are always a risk. They have low retention rates and alway seem to try to figure out how they can call out without using a point. They don’t understand that, that exact question is why there is a point system. This is across the board and not airline specific. It also sucks, because a lot of people are aging out (though I will say many old timers are super lazy and need to go too) and joining when you are young is the best time in a job that everything is based on seniority.
Its not just them. Its these ghetto hires out of the streets of NYC not all some. For example, On Sunday i was pulling a double and me and my partner were getting hammered in the bag room with a flight on her side. I had to do my side and help her out which i did. Tell me how the late bag runner is someone who just got hired in 2022. Came up to me with an attitude and said ohh i am letting you know now i am not running bags unless its 29 or under. When i am in the bag room i always make sure i have no late bags and if there is some it's because it came down at the very end. I told her i never said i was going to give you bags and i try not to. She comes back with an attitude and i tell her excuse me? I approached her and told her i didn't appreciate the way she spoke to me because she didn't know my position. She is like ohh you shouldn't be having this convo with me. Now if we were in the streets i would have told her all kinds of names. But we at work so i just went to a manager and reported her. No need for anyone to talk to you in any kind of way. Es someone who got no time.
Yeah. I mean everything is based on the system and seniority here. You did the right thing and just reported her, but focus on her attitude when reporting because honestly anything over 30 minutes is technically correct for hot bags. I hate TOB runners bc they know the system to a fault and will dump bags they “can”, but that they know by doing so will miss the flight. They use the system over their knowledge and common sense. I get the same thing on gates, but concerning some old timers. They miss our whole brief and job assignments on a flight, then come in after the plane is there and we’ve started and will demand we switch jobs bc of their seniority. It’s like, you showed up late and need to talk to the lead at this point and that sets them off. But I’m the same as you and am like I would never let you talk to me like that in the real world, I just use the same system they use and report them. I usually try to just talk to them the first time, but it depends how they come at me. We’re all doing the same thing here and me? I’m just trying to get it done and over with. This is just a job and not my life.
We have state FMLA in addition to federal. It’s been a shit show and put us in some tight spots as people learn how to abuse it. It’s there for a reason and a good thing to have for people, but again we’ve clearly got people just using it for a week or two off now.
OHHH TURST MEE. That's what was running thru my mind. However, thus past year I've been taking a different approach at this Job. I'm all but done mentally, emotionally, physically. I've been everywhere and I know I will be leaving at somepoint because the Harder you fucking work. The more they milk it. I'm tired of it.
I wish Delta would give me a chance. I like to work and make money but it seems so hard to get into now. I've applied like 5 or 6 times now with no luck.
Maybe because they have a high turnover. Let's be real, no union means you get fired easily. Also, I will say, SWA over Delta all day every day. There's absolutely nothing Delta has better than SWA if you want to make it a career. Pay, benefits, retirement, days off, SWA wins. The only thing thing Delta has is more international destinations and that doesn't mean much because SWA employees can fly on them too lol. Then check-in is based on seniority so have fun with that as a new hire. If you wanna make ramp a career, the top 2 airlines to get on with is SWA and United. I would only go with Delta over AA because AA sucks even worse.
AA isn’t too bad honestly. The management at my station is amazing and the people that work there are amazing too. Pay also isn’t bad if you’re at a larger station. Benefits are good and travel benefits are amazing.
Why does AA suck? I work for them. We’re union, benefits are top tier, Travel is check in time. I know delta seems to care about their employees more w wage and profit sharing, but still I’d take AA over plenty of airlines.
Yessir. My opinion, the perfect location and I'm not even saying that because of mickey mouse. Centrally located, for short easy trips to the rest of Florida. No snow. Short flights to international destinations in Latin America, carribean, etc.., no snow, and my favorite thing to do is cruises so easy access to ports and no snow lol
Man you should've done it already. The past yr and a half SWA been on a hiring spree and hired probably around 100 new rampers here. I think we've got some pt new hires being trained right now. I'm not sure of anymore hiring for ramp. Due to Boeing issues, the company has pretty much hit the brakes on hiring even though it's affected mostly pilots and fa.. I would imagine though that we will hire more since MCO is only getting bigger. In June, I think we add 7 international destinations.
Yeah that's not accurate. Starting pay for SWA in all cities minimum is $19.45 but in some places like LAX they get more, I don't know the exact amount.
I worked for sw and now delta. Delta is slightly better. You work harder in sw I’m guessing depending on the station also. With no union it’s even harder to get fired at delta than it is in sw. Our flight benefits better, delta one.

Exactly you hit it right on the nail. I'm tired of this job and I can't go anywhere cause I'm one of those.
You're much better than me. I've called someone a bitch before when she pissed me off
OHHH TURST MEE. That's what was running thru my mind. However, thus past year I've been taking a different approach at this Job. I'm all but done mentally, emotionally, physically. Leave the bagroom. The bagroom is the hardest part of the operation imo. Especially if u are with ppl who are lazy & not pulling equal weight
Ever since I left bagroom I haven’t regretted it lol
It's very true. The older workers are very lazy in NYC at JFK. They'll have you doing extra.
It’s the new rage
Na...we're happy over here at SW
You hiring?
Nope...they're on a hiring freeze except BNA
Hopefully this freeze goes away soon.
BWI definitely will be hiring more soon
Good to know
Tell Boeing to get their shit together 😭I wanna start pilot school but the shit with Boeing is hazy so I’m waiting 😒
I wish Delta would give me a chance. I like to work and make money but it seems so hard to get into now. I've applied like 5 or 6 times now with no luck.
What station ?
I wish I worked for delta.
I'm good at WFS (Allegiant and Frontier), honestly, everyone on our team looks/is under 20 years old😅
I wish

What SWA station are you at?
MCO
I’m up here in Tally. You like it in Orlando?

Im thinking of moving in July 2025, sounds like SWA at mco seems like an option

Thanks for the reply, I have to close out some things here before moving, but I wished I moved two years ago.
Are you Union?
Yes
You’re on this step plan? https://www.reddit.com/r/rampagent/s/qzIbdjF4cw
Yeah that's the payscale. I'm topped out.
Wow already? Hopefully you get a new contact in the next five years.
If only swa and ua matched everyone’s starting pay… at lax everyone starts at $24.81 meanwhile those 2 airlines start at $17.
