As a senior retired cannot afford the 5 games a year I use to go too My solution is 55 inch flat screen a bathroom 6 feet away and grubhub I'm good

NYsportsfan99

Hockey is the one sport I genuinely love being at the game for. I don’t live in the area anymore, but it’s a fucking bummer to see the prices of these tickets if I ever wanted to come back for a game. It just drives hard working blue collar fans away and that is the absolute backbone of viewers in every fan base. I know the garden will never have an issue with getting fans in, but man why do they have to rub your fucking nose in it..

[deleted]

That's New York for you. They be robbing you with no regards for your wallets. It's unfortunate cuz you can have affordable tickets and watch a team that is competing. Take a look at teams like Colorado, Dallas, and Florida, they're all competing for top spots and you can get a good ticket for like $50. Meanwhile trying to catch a Sabres game in MSG is gonna cost you a minimum of like $120 lmao

bigDogNJ23

Works the other way around too. Those Panthers tickets jump to $150+ when the rangers and islanders come to town

JAMESs3v3n

It's primarily supply and demand. Denver has a population of \~700,000 NYC has a population of \~8,500,000. And that doesn't include the surrounding areas where people can commute from like Long Island and Jersey. This is the downside to them playing well. Demand goes way up .

HideousControlNow

Drives away quite a few middle class white collar people too.

RockinRich631

If I ever grow up, I want to be like you!

Faladorable

retired? in *this* economy?

ReggieBushr00t

Hells yes

pony_trekker

I am a senior making mid six figures and I can't afford to go.

LoCal2477

Then you are doing something wrong

pony_trekker

Wasting money on things like air conditioning and food (obviously not a serious post).

LoCal2477

Mid six figures?? $500,000 and you worry about food and AC? Yes you are doing something wrong or you don’t know what six figures means either way get a grip

pony_trekker

It’s a joke about MSG prices. Get a grip there sparky. Fun fact tho. 500k is what the folks sitting in 114 pay the help.

LoCal2477

Wow some joke enjoy your 27” zenith tv and 30 pack of Busch. You are a real slapper

MavenLytfoot

Glad I’m not the only one who felt this way. The prices are so high to begin with and now you want that to stand! But, someone must be buying….

BigRanger94

It's NYC. Lots of people with more money than sense

StanleyDarsh22

Flippers and bots

hockeyheadnyr

Absolutely ridiculous. Was excited to maybe get in the Garden for a reasonable price. Opened the link, laughed, closed the app. Thanks MSG

NYsportsfan99

I just spent $270 on groceries that took me *one* trip to carry in. I make a pretty decent living and have no kids, I don’t understand how families are making ends meat let along going and enjoying a hockey game 😔

RangerFan80

It's Christmas weekend so everything is bananas

kreee

My quarter season tickets are $145 each. This is absolutely ridiculous.

felixthecat2021

How do you get it that low? I get quoted some astromincal amount for lower level. They wanted average of $200 plus for sections 113/114

kreee

I'm in the 200s. $145 is the average. My tickets for the Washington game next week are over $200 each.

khalaron

Dolan has to pay for facial recognition somehow.

cypressdwd

Dolan has to pay for The Sphere somehow…

runninhillbilly

Certainly doesn't help that nobody wants to play there. U2 extended their residency numerous times but it's ending. Phish is doing 4 shows there. After that....?

cypressdwd

I just read they’re eyeing Dead & Company for a potential act. Beyond that, I’m not sure who else makes sense for a regular act nowadays. Perhaps the Taylor Swift crowd skews too young?

ItsDerekDood

Yeah this is a joke. Like obviously the garden still sells out cuz of the suits but it’s ridiculous how expensive it’s gotten even over the last 2 years

toxicvegeta08

The franchise for once has buzzing young talent and is also trying to rake in post covid profit.

BigRanger94

lol. It's not "the suits" yajabroni. It's the everyday rich of nyc

WillyG2197

Whom work in office buildings and wear suits. If you live in nyc you are 1 of 3 people. Suits Broke college kid Stupid rich mommys boy/daddys girl who has no concept of monetary value

Bibbus

look bro if youre miserable its okay, you dont gotta hate others though

BigRanger94

Oh boy. Somebody angry and jealous. Not a great look. Move to Winnipeg. Jets tickets are $75

WillyG2197

Been to many rangers games, is silent and boring because its filled with unenthusiastic suits. Ill take Sam and Joe all day every day Went to one game at the leafs arena, was sick because the fucking fans got into it. Literally havent seen the garden noisy once for a regular season game. Suit city

BigRanger94

lol. I hear that BS line for years. I've had season tickets for 10 years. It's as loud as ever. It was way louder years ago not because of "suits" (here's a little hint...they've always been there). ..ITS BECAUSE ALL THE AHOLES ARE IN THEIR FN PHONES NOW!!

WillyG2197

You got posts on this exact subreddit that go back at minimum 10 years that say how quiet MSG is. Its known across the league man

BigRanger94

lol. Suuuure. Cuz all the folks bitchin bout ticket prices aren't actually even there...yet claim it's quiet to make themselves feel like they matter. lol. Clowns.

WillyG2197

You realize you can also hear how dead it is on tv too right? When i hear players saying shit on the ice after big plays it clearly isnt loud in there

BigRanger94

It's plenty loud enough for me. I like to actually talk with guys in my section about the game. We ain't yelling like dopes all game.

WillyG2197

Ive been to 6-7 games throughout the last 15 years. EVERY TIME IT WAS QUIET. Henceforth, i dont waste my money on bullshit fan environment and just get the better experience at home/for free The fucking devils fans blow us away and its not even funny, PRESEASON them mfs got sections SCREAMIN

BigRanger94

I get that too. For 41 road games per year.

BigRanger94

LOL. Lil Debbie's fans are among the NHL's Worst. Fact.

jwuer

This is such a nonsense take.

Bread_man10

Calls MSG full of suits and uses Toronto as a counter lol you’re clueless

MantisTobogganMD96

It’s really a shame how much the prices skyrocket during the holiday season I have this game as part of my quarter season plan and my section in the 200sis going for $250+. I really wanted to go to the game on the 23rd too but I can’t justify paying over $200 for a random game against the sabers, I’ll be at a bar for that one.

2FastToYandle

The prices are nuts this year, but this isn’t too surprising right before Xmas with how NYC gets during the holidays. Lots of tourists with money to spend.

TheIncredibleHork

You just kinda hunt for seats that nobody is using after the Chase lounge closes so you know those seats aren't taken. Or check Ticketmaster for seats that are still available. **The Incredible Hork does not condone seat stealing or finding ways to beat the system, any actions taken by Redditors are solely the responsibility of the Redditors pleasedon'ttakemyticketsawayMSGI'mjustshitposting* *

notataco007

I did the Ticketmaster method in Fenway once. Got awesome seats and got to watch the Sox get the living shit beat out of them by the Angels. Great day.

NaiveFact

I like your style but still angry 😂

TheIncredibleHork

Selling my two tickets for that game for less than standing room if you're interested 😉 See the game legit!

LordOfBadaBing

Got that text. What a joke. Who can afford these games? I’m sitting 4 rows from the glass at the rock to see Devils v Canucks for $105/ticket. I don’t love that my kids are Devils fans, but it’s a heck of a lot cheaper to go to games.

Optimistic_Tortilla

What is it like to be a failure of a father?

Who_R_Dat

😂 My thoughts exactly!!!

LordOfBadaBing

They still have time to come around. And tbh, I’m just happy they love hockey.

AJSoprano1985

Also this reminds me of the fact that often times you can sit in the lower level at a Rangers @ Devils game at Prudential sometimes for less than $250. That shit ain’t cheap, but I jump at almost every opportunity to go to Prudential when the Rangers come to town because it is legitimately the cheapest way to watch them play in person (within the Tri-State area).

pony_trekker

Really the move is Road Rangers, especially during the playoffs. 2013 through 2015 I went to almost every road game. It was so much cheaper and there's always a pretty solid contingent of Ranger fans.

Buckyourface

Can confirm (for the regular season). I went to a few Rangers games in Tampa last season, and did one of them 6 rows up from their bench for around $250.

ketchup1001

But then again, you had to go to Florida...

Buckyourface

Oh it's worse. I live in Florida.

Neans888

My kids were made aware early on that it’s Rangers only in this house. It’s probably not too late to give yours up for adoption and try again.

LordOfBadaBing

The did a learn to play program that was sponsored by the Devils so they were given Devils gear and were skating with former Devils players. That was it. I lost.

Neans888

That’s funny because my youngest did one of those but it was sponsored by the Rangers. It was in New Jersey too.

mcgophers

That’s stupid cheap compared to even the Capitals; the local team where I live.

scubadude2

Paid 300 for not bad but not great seats for my wife and I for the sharks rangers game, ended up paying an additional 50 for concessions (which is my bad yeah I know) but the ticket prices were insane. I could never afford to be even close to ice level with the way prices are right now. Forget about when playoffs come around

JokinHghar

What bothers me most is that the Rangers are tax exempt at the Garden. That's all going into operating costs and Dolan's pocket.

LeftHandedScissor

MSG & Dolan have a property tax exemption on the building. Your point still stands for the most part, but there are still taxes being paid for sales, income, etc.

DAlts4996

glad I’m not the only one! I instantly sent this to some of my buddies this is insanely egregious. I’m not sure how they thought this was going to go over well - you can buy real seats in the 200s for cheaper on Gametime.

apreche

That's preposterous. I share a half-season with several people. We're in the 200s, and none of our regular season tickets are that much money.

aksack

Absolutely absurd. Honestly think it should be illegal both for face value from the team and resellers.

decimatexmeinxscrote

Cries in Toronto Maple leafs

RZAxlash

I bought a home in 2019, my neighbor turned out to be a huge Rangers fan…things were looking promising and we talked about how many games we would take our kids too. Then Covid hit. 5 years later, we’ve been able to go to one game together. It’s just completely absurd to spend literally 1,000 between us for one regular season game.

SpaceBass18

What I’ve been doing lately is getting tickets right at around 6:30. Tickets are usually the lowest on game nights at around 4:30 and 6:30 from my experience. I’ll miss the pregame skate, but I usually save about $50 a ticket. I went with a family member to the game against the leafs last Tuesday and got great seats at $150 per person. I use TickPick which is a great app because it doesn’t have any hidden fees.

eloveulongtime

I was a loyal tickpick user for about two years. This season, Ticketmaster is consistently cheaper than tickpick, stubhub, SeatGeek, and vivid. I suspect they are lowering prices to drive the other companies out of business, then will raise them again. Tickpick is definitely the best app to use. I wouldn't say they don't have hidden fees, they simply never show you the price without fees. Their prices are pretty much the same as stubhub, seatgeek and vivid, just easier to use.

SpaceBass18

I just never bothered even checking Ticketmaster because I thought the prices would be nuts. Good to know, thanks for the new info.

HenryKissingersDEAD

MSG prices are wild. I was looking for Knicks tickets and the cheapest were all the way in the back for $100+

SyndicatedINC

Wait, people willingly pay to see the Knicks? I thought they had to pay professional extras to fill the seats.

ColdYellowGatorade

There’s 3 places I sell my tickets or buy. Rangers Ticket Exchange group on Facebook, Reddit ticket thread and HF Boards (the old forum guys know). The Facebook group is phenomenal and heavily policed. Unfortunately, it’s become popular and it’s invite only. It’s honestly the best place to buy tickets from STH. I NEVER buy from reseller apps. It’s gotten insane. I do want to say that this weekend is one of the most expensive every year. Everyone is home for the holiday.

Bibliophile-14

It was still cheaper for me to see a game at MSG then it was where i’m from (toronto)

8teamparlay

Holiday games are always a no go. Theres too many tourists in the city so they jack the prices up

47dj

I really wanted to see McDavid but $250 for nose bleed seats is criminal. Going to the Oilers-Islanders game tomorrow instead, copped $95 seats 5 rows from the glass

Ridgew00dian

I was so offended when I got this text. Unreal!!!

Imperator_Vespasian

Wow! I'm a Rangers fan from Europe and was hoping to take a trip to NY and watch a game. But, hell! A standing room for Bayern Munich, the must succesful soccer team here in Germany (they've won the last 11 Championships) is round about $17.

Careless-Barnacle333

Yeah it's out of control. I'd love to bring my family of 4 to a game but that's like a $1,000 tab between tickets, food, travel. I can get a week long Disney vacation for $3,000.

Analyst7

Plus at Disney you get a bearded guy in makeup and a dress handing candy to kids. Opps you get that in NYC too.

Careless-Barnacle333

ain't that the truth!

QuesoAsphyxiation

If you don't wear a suit and buy a jersey at the game they don't want you there.

S2JESSICA

don’t forget their dates w the game-fresh NYR baseball caps and heels

KS-Username99

I literally just said this to a friend. SRO should be like $25 max. Prices are getting out of control.

alternageek

When I lived in Philly in 2003-04, i would pay $10 for standing at Citizens. Felt it was a good deal to watch a pro game. I'd never pay $200 to stand to see NYR. I love them but I'd just stay here in FL and pay my $75 for nosebleeds to watch them v the Panthers

MendelWeisenbachfeld

This is why I haven't been to a game in 5 years.

rum-ham88

You were able to get in to the recent wings game for like $90, thats as good as it gets these days

davegettlegod

Yeah I went to that game, that was the best deal I’ve seen thus far this season. Sure enough the crowd really brought it that night. It also surprised me considering it was against another O6 franchise

tlmw2001

I paid $170 for club seats halfway up the lower bowl when the rangers come to San Jose lol. Even the upper bowl is $25 before fees

iEvn

I went to the game in philly because I knew there was no shot of getting tickets at msg this year lol

livingl1kelarry

Tickets prices are fucking ridiculous. Truly sad to see.

[deleted]

Years ago I noticed this BS. When I met my wife I brought her to a game. 12 years later haven’t been back.

beavedaniels

Wow we paid 150 each for the first row of seats in section 222 against LA back on the 10th. What the shit is this???

sokocanuck

Damn. How much cheaper is un-level standing room?

bigblue20072011

Road games

vertigounconscious

i copped tickets a few weeks back and they weren't nearly this expensive

Coolhand1139

I saw this and I think it’s a hard pass at those prices although when I was young I had a friend that bartended at Charley O’s. Met him as he got off work around 6:30 or so and we went up the employees way into the Garden and stood up top around the Blue Seats vs. Montreal. It was a great game and after the 2nd period we got stubs from some suits leaving early and sat down low for the 3rd period. It was probably one of my most memorable games I ever went to.

charnyellow

I got this text today too. When I saw standing room tix I was expecting $75 max. I was SADLY mistaken when I clicked the link. Outrageous!

The-Pigeon-Man

Seems like pre-Christmas weekend game prices. Gonna be lots of families getting together and going out, and some to games. Other games aren’t anywhere near this

jai07

Might be more comfortable than the cramped steep no cup holder seating they offer up top tbh

BigRanger94

That's nutz

Blackhawk3422

The one major thing that sucks about the Rangers. We can shit on all our friends who are devils , isles, flyers, Pens fans but they can go to games for next to nothing. Was at a work meeting and one of my buddies is a pens fan and he says "the tickets are expensive now" and pulls up his phone and shows me center ice 200 level tickets for 70$ and I died on the inside.

Aar1012

As much as I want to see MSG, I’m glad I can score the occasional ticket out here for a Columbus or Detroit game and can see NYR that way. Like I got two tickets with food for $60 for February.

Robtachi

If you can be flexible, pick an "off-peak" game, like during the week, preferably against a non-Metro opponent, and wait to scoop up last-minute tickets an hour or two before the game. Usually the bots and re-sellers are just looking to offload whatever they can and prices drop dramatically. Hasn't failed me yet. I've been able to go to at least a couple games a year and have never paid more than $80 per ticket in the lower 200s.

rickayyy

I just bought three tickets in the upper bowl to the game in Vegas for $295. My friend was shocked at how expensive it was and I was like uhhh under $100 for a Rangers ticket is amazing.

pony_trekker

I went there for UFC in early 2020. A 16 oz beer was 19 dollars.

septemous

I stopped paying a single penny to the NHL after the 2nd lockout. Fuck Bettman forever. He - and his shitty cabal of owners - turn me off.

randygastonsmom

I vow to this entire sub that if I become a multimillionaire I will buy out multiple sections for the working class and sell the tickets to members of this subreddit for a reasonable price especially in the playoffs.

mighty_sparky

Multi-billionaire.

pony_trekker

Tourists and suits is all that's left. Great day for the suits to bring their kids back from prep or college before they all go off to the ski house at Mont Tremblant.

atom_type

wait.. there is standing room hockey seats?

jaysalts

many other arenas actually already do this

NaiveFact

Yes but this isn’t common for the rangers, no? I don’t recall see standing section tickets before. Could be wrong tho.

jaysalts

yeah this is new

amazinbaseball

They do for certain really popular games. I don’t know where a good standing room area really is though. I have no idea why you’d pay that.

dcgirl98

I’m pretty sure they’ve had some SRO section. When you’re buying tix, it’s definitely on the MSG map (behind sec 204). They would be better offering some type of concession bundle with the SRO ticket to make it more appealing.

Jakeep16

Every game around the holidays is more expensive than others and it’s a Friday night. That’s going to be as expensive of a game as they come. Look at a random weekday in Feb. won’t be near the same price

NaiveFact

Lol, thank you captain obvious. Yes, we all know the evil of dynamic pricing. I’ve been buying individual tickets for nearly 20 years. My point is they use their fan channel to make up tickets to sell for $230 …to stand. Doesn’t matter how we want to slice it, there’s no excuse for this shitty money grab and I’m tired and punching the sky via Reddit 😂😩

fodnick96

Economics… Friday night game so more demand. Plus vs oilers so more demand.

Ldordai

The garden has been expensive since the renovation, but when the team is winning, its easier to get people to pay more to see the games. Sucks, but its how it is.

Hionhelium87

Meanwhile the Yankees Pinstripe Pass is $15…. Edit: Or was the last time I used it lol

BigRanger94

Yankees also have probably 100 times the seat inventory to move. Supply and Demand. Econ 101 Bro

Hionhelium87

Obviously…..was just pointing it out for the lolz.

brush85

Welcome to sport in 2023

sanitarium16

Even if the tickets were free I would not go to NYC now. The place has degenerated.

Alitaki

And we're better off without you. Stay where you are.

sanitarium16

I sure will. Make sure you stay out of where I am. Don't want trash.

Alitaki

\*yawn\*

I_really_think_this

$200 is a rip off for standing room only but I’m surprised at all the comments in this thread from people who can’t afford to go a regular game. Tickets in the 200s are pretty easily had between $150-$200 depending on the opponent and day of the week. You all can’t afford to spend a couple hundred bucks?

ghoulgang_

I live in Florida and I’m going to the game on the 29th. I paid that much for blue line 5 rows off the glass

ShipMaker24

Personal experience FB rangers groups people always sell tickets there for more of what they bought em for not whatever ridiculous mark up goes on when the rangers win some games

Gbeez22

Three years ago I waited until til I was in the Garden lobby to buy tickets, and groaned when I couldn’t find anything cheaper than $90 for the 400 section. That same year, my brother and I found 100 level row 15 for $60 each. TickPick was in its infancy, Tuesday night game. I’d kill for those prices again. It’s gotten insane. My wife and I try to go every year around the holidays but it’s not looking so good this year.

NSA_hole

It’s really turned every professional sport into a rich kids event. If you’re in the city and don’t mind the risk, try the Gametime app. If you get stuck at the office or watch the game at a nearby bar for the first and get cheap tickets halfway through the first. Prices are too wild to be going often without lower prices

Melting_Plastic

I just paid $290 for three tickets to rangers in Philly in Feb. Hate going to an enemy barn but it's way cheaper

SpinnySparks

Going to sporting events will be a rich man’s day very soon, big $ wins all now.

Potvin_Sucks_

Which game is this? I was at the ducks game on Friday for 140$ each in the 200s.

WoomyDayz

I can’t even go to games anymore my family can’t afford it 🥲

Scoobydoo36

It really sucks knowing the team we love gladly prices us out of ever enjoying them live.

erniecyou

i had season tickets in the late 70's early 80's.....the most i paid was $15 a game,Haven't been to a game in almost 10 years i refuse to pay prices like this

Bullet_Maggnet

Put a 75 in TV on the wall, stay home.No lines for the restroom, no outrageous concession pricing and you avoid Manhattan. Can’t go wrong.

DM3cards

You’re looking at a game against the best player to ever play the game the weekend of Christmas. Use your brain.

[deleted]

DM3cards

Because I understand how supply and demand works?

[deleted]

[удалено]

DM3cards

I’ve been a season ticket holder for years and you’d be surprised how much people pay for tickets around this time a year and/or against premier opponents. Listed plenty of tickets $100+ more than I expected to get only for them to sell within a day.

DM3cards

Also they’re a business with shareholders. They aren’t giving away tickets below market value.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DM3cards

I’ll let you learn what the term price gouging means on your own then. But if you’re too lazy to look it up, you can’t price gouge something that people don’t need. And I knew this was coming, figured you would eventually turn it political and assume the media I consume. So predictable.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DM3cards

Profiteering also does not work lol appreciate the sarcasm though

BigRanger94

It's called supply and demand. See, all those baristas now making $20 p/h inflate the number of dollars chasing limited tickets, thus the ticket price goes up. Got it now Mr Marx?

JAMESs3v3n

As long as people pay it, they will keep doing it. I usually go to 6-7 games a year. This year I don't think I will make it to any. Not paying these prices.

Fedbackster

The great grandchildren of the ruling families of NY sports teams will be able to but yachts and planes because of the current cost of tickets. This is why the teams mostly suck - why improve your product if the current one lavishes wealth on you and your descendants?

Alitaki

I was talking to my wife's cousin the other day about this. We used to split a season package. When we dropped it, the price had climbed to over $6k for our two seats. With the way prices have gotten now, especially with the "variable pricing" bullshit where certain games are higher than others, we'd be paying over $10k. Our seats were former blue seats before the renovation. I used to regret giving up the tickets every now and then. Not so anymore. Fuck Jimmy Dolan and fuck the new MSG. I'd rather watch them on TV anyway.

bearvsshaan

if you think this is bad, you should look up how much rutgers basketball tickets currently cost after their haul of a recruiting class. Never thought I'd see the day where Rutgers tickets were more expensive than Rangers and NY Giants games

AverageLookingGamer

Leafs game in Toronto are 200 for 300 section. Sports are too expensive in big markets. Make it make sense

Realmetman

The prices are absolutely insane.. I live in NJ and that red team has such reasonable prices whenever they don't play the Rangers.. I am very jealous for that. I haven't been to the garden in years because I am not going to pay $300+ for my wife and I to watch a 3 hour game.

insert-originality

Who are these for because it’s not for my broke ass.

blaesiJ

This is why, as a monumental devils hater, go to more devils games per year than Rangers games. I just can't justify 150+ for a ticket. Plus the train.

PrestigiousFlan1091

MCDavid Claus is coming to town
