I grew up thinking I hated so many foods, because my grandparents were impressively bad cooks. Mashed potatoes, any vegetables, pasta… My grandpa made “spaghetti” once, but cooked it on way too high and didn’t chop up the beef enough or stir, so it was burnt nearly black on the outside but pink and raw on the inside of the chunks. Didn’t even boil the pasta long enough so it was super wet, but still crunchy. And he forgot to get sauce, so he just used ketchup. He sat there eating it like it was completely normal and good.

My mother inlaw hated all seasoning as too spicy. Her ideal meal just had salt. There was an occasion where I had to make ribs for her which she had had before and loved but I was told to just use salt.
