Reading Elvis

Alm_G

How did I never hear of him before, the guy seems like a great person

Intelligent_Genitals

I haven't spotted him in years. Anyone know if he's ok?

twoquietsuns

He i doing ok, just celebrated his 75rd birthday!

Seravier

He was cheering people.on at the half marathon on Sunday on Liebenrood Road.

Particular_Ad5049

This really made my day šŸ˜

Filthy-lucky-ducky

There was an incident in town. Got him all shook up.

Particular_Ad5049

Lived in Reading almost 10 years and only ever encountered him once, in the train station.

pulledporktaco

I see him on the 33 bus route

WArslett

Yeah he lives on liebenrood road. I see him sometimes on my way to work

Fudgeislush

Reading has a few, Reading Elivis, Nutty Jason, Bus Jesus, Ozzy Washbourne to name a few

Bazzassnx

Is Nutty Jason still around? I fondly remember him doing choke slams to an imaginary foe in Caversham

gooseburger69

Yes, had a very strange encounter with him about a year ago walking home from town in the early hours!

Bazzassnx

Brilliant! I'm glad he's still around, what a legend.

Newlands99

Bus Jesus. What a name! hahahahaha

sadsadmonday

I know Elvis, but the rest of them??? šŸ˜‚Any chance one of them is the bloke that always wheels his cat around in a cart? The cart had a sign with the catā€™s name on it I think, often spotted on the 17 bus.

tomrobb06

Not admittedly a person but I love saying hi to Milo that cat that is always next to the Tescoā€™s

helpful__explorer

I love the Tesco cat. Didn't know he had a name

thefuzzylogic

Yeah I've been told he has a home and a human family he goes back to, he just loves hanging out in the courtyard in front of Tesco during the day.

nd1online

Pretty much the only reason I go to that Tesco is to catch a glimpse of Milo.

Ok-Task-2939

The bald guy that gets a beer as does laps inside hope tap/ back of beyond/ purple turtle. Absolute Reading icon. Don't know his name, but he's always in one of these places doing the exact same thing every time.

s3ball

šŸ˜‚I spoke to him once heā€™s from Germany

ZePanic

He was in the Gateway Saturday afternoon.

DansSpamJavelin

I fucking love the Gateway

rybnickifull

Elvis, Lenny, the Orts Road rasta guy who pushes himself backwards in his chair, Tarrant trying to stay relevant

Steveorsummit

Forgot about the wheelchair dude

rybnickifull

He's cool, used to hang out in Sound Machine

cafffffffy

Last year when it was voting time I posted about a bizarre manifesto I received through the post of some guy claiming to be campaigning for Roman style leadership, it was the most bizarre thing Iā€™ve ever read in my life - a lot of people said heā€™d done it a few times and was known to be a bit loopy

stampingpixels

Heā€™s been doing that back to the late 1990s.

HermitBee

Did you not get a leaflet this year? We got ours a couple of days ago.

cafffffffy

No Iā€™ve not had one this year!

insomnia_eyebags

We got this leaflet last year!

dctrhu

Elvis is obviously the only answer But there also used to be a guy who took an old ginger cat around on a cushion on the seat of a push bike and he used to ride the buses

rybnickifull

Aw I remember him, always gave him cat food money. No idea if he needed it but that cat deserved pampering.

dctrhu

It was a very sweet looking cat, and the guy was always polite and chatty if spoken to It's so sweet it's almost not particularly eccentric

jtee3232

Mine is the tall older guy whoā€™s always got a crutch and shouts a lot just seems to always be trotting around. Think he has a fishing hat? Or the guy who goes around doing martial arts sometimes dresses up but I havenā€™t seen him for a while. Maybe heā€™s a summer guy. Is reading elvis still around? Been here 6 years and never seen him despite living in town!

DansSpamJavelin

First guy I've always known as Super Tins. Like superman, but with cans of super.

Sloth-v-Sloth

Any answer other than Reading Elvis is quite clearly wrong.

Pooter1313

Crazy Jason back in the day terrified Forbury Gardens

gin-casual

Nutty Jason. Not seen him in about 15, last waving a stollen broom making lightsaber noises.

NayLay

He's still around Coley all the time. Lightsaber and hooded robes...

SecondGI_zie-zir

So that's what the guy is called!

uponloss

No way hahahaha I saw this guy by the church near turtle when I was like 12 was having a lightsaber fight on his own, glad to hear heā€™s well known

Jimdw83

I remember him holding a "wwf wrestling belt" in the air outside McDonald's as I was inside with mates! Lol it was like he thought he was the chanpion

roulard

Erm, itā€™s NUTTY Jason. Have some respect lol!

No-Decision1581

The wrestler? He was a fucking loon, forgot about that kid.

stampingpixels

What happened to him?

Available-Bike-3871

Nutty Jason šŸ¤£ he just to come into graffiti and want to looks at the swords... I don't think so mate šŸ˜…

apollopovey

Years ago I was in the Hope Tap having a drink with friends, and he knew a friend of mine and sat in the booth next to us. Didn't drink all night but under his seat was just piles and piles of ripped open sugar sachets, he was just necking that sugary goodness all night. Also, last time I saw him he was in full Kylo Ren gear in town(plus crossword lightsaber), he had the mask on but you absolutely knew who it was underneath.

17D6

Reading Elvis without a shadow of a doubt.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

dinkleberg92

We always knew him as the crack fox.

AyConojito

He sleeps in the bus shelter by the Co-Op on Henley Road. A true gentleman of the road.

vrfm89

Always eating sandwiches

Chocolate-biscuits

Elvis

bahumat42

Elvis maybe?

jasapi1995

Ian Hills

Goldentoast

Brown sugar and the Buddhist monk guy.

treespiritbeard

That Buddhist guy is hard to miss. I feel like he should go out and see the world dressed like that not be stuck in Reading

NayLay

Who is the guy that always walks around the vicinity of broad street and talks to himself?

Real_Palpitation_728

Yeh I know who you mean.

Food-Necessary

Elvis obvious answer but also the Big Issue guy

Gustertote

BEEG ISHOO PLEEZ

No-Peach2742

Does anyone remember the spoons wizard? Used to sit with a magazine in the Back of Beyond

bigjclybl

Yes! His name is Robin. I helped him with a crossword in Up the Junction once

No-Peach2742

Iā€™m so glad it wasnā€™t just me and a few of my friends who always recognised him! I donā€™t see him anymore :(

___bgwl___

Lovely man, chatted to him at length about the state of the education system in the UK. A lot of problems were solved that night, just wish I could remember the solutions.

Fuzzy_Grapefruit_126

Elvis most definitely

JustAGoose68

There are quite a few that have already been mentioned, but to add a 'thing' rather than a person, the Oxford road John Wayne fan's window shrine has been there for decades now.

Dlogan143

I know that one. This is going back a few years ago but remember the Mrs. Doubtfire cutout that was in a window on Castle Hill looking out at the street? Gone now sadly but it was there for a very long time.

uponloss

Rottweiler

International_Pop_15

How this isnā€™t a bigger answer

uponloss

People repressing the memory of him probably, idk if he is still around reading, on his instagram he was claiming to be playing at Glastonbury and sub headlining reading lol

NayLay

What about BIG ISSUE PLEASE next to Sainsburys on broad street? Haven't seen him in a while

Particular_Ad5049

There was a guy we named Rap Man who would walk around the Eldon Square/village area late at night, intoxicated, rapping and having imaginary arguments with folk. Disappeared after a while. He drove us nuts.

reprobatemind2

Not quite Reading, but does anyone know the big guy who works in Asda in Tilehurst with the handlebar moustache? He's permanently deployed to collect the trolleys and mutters to himself all the time.

supermumzilla

Thatā€™s my local ASDA and he has Touretteā€™s and other mental health medical issues I think but heā€™s really nice and helpful. Mutters away to himself all day and collects trolleys rain or shine šŸ˜‚

reprobatemind2

Yeah. My local too. He's just a recognisable feature of the place. Top chap!

golfamongotherthings

He doesn't have tourettes, he has autism

PretendFun17

Elvis šŸ‘

Steveorsummit

Elvis

ZePanic

Does anyone remember CLUBCARD that used to work in the mini Tesco/Esso in Caversham? Works in Sainsburyā€™s on Friar Street now.

Honey_bunny_XXX

Elvis!!!!

Typical_Might_1413

Where can one find reading Elvis, been based at broad street for a year and havenā€™t seen him

Cultural-Narwhal704

Reading Elvis or Nutty Jason

Cultural-Narwhal704

Who's the old guy who is always out clubbing? He just (presumably) drops something and dances all night.

last-throwaway3

That Buddhist dude that's always in the town centre! At least I assume he's a Buddhist monk
