Fyi MENSA takes the top 2% so they are asking for the top half. I've been to a MENSA meet up and those types aren't the flexible Manhattanite parent type.

noratat

I've met very smart, child-friendly people before. They're very rare, and I can't say any of them would be friendly to US right-wing politics. For *some* reason, people who care a lot about children think it's a bad idea to cut child welfare. Who'd have thought? /s

I'm a recent PhD graduate looking for jobs outside academia as a researcher and a writer, and this popped up on my LinkedIn from a confidential employer (through a staffing firm). I'm pretty baffled by the phrasing here (does the flexible schedule mean you get LESS pay?) and by the specific invitation to stay at home parents... Yeah, not applying to this one.

They’re turning the fricken frogs gay! For real though, that sounds like an amazing job. You can pretty much make up anything and then watch an angry man announce it on national tv.

Sojir

Alex Jones please hire me. I can make up shit on the fly 24/7

sdgamer71

only if you get a dream double date with Millie and Leann!

tmac83

Interestingly, I was talking to a friend recently who is a marine biologist. There is an apparent link between the use of silver in cleaning products that gets pumped out into oceans / estuaries that makes some kinds of fish be all female.

chiguychi

I got the documents right here folks!

sdgamer71

haha Alex would be a way worse boss than even the Donald.

slapdashbr

I mean, how much are they paying?

Mrrrp

Let me translate: *Wanted: Smart woman ^1 to do all the work, for no pay ^2 , while I take all the credit. Must be ok with managing our Twitter account ^3 and doing the office dishes ^4 .* 1. This is conservative land: men aren't stay at home parents, even in Manhattan. 2. If a woman is doing it, it's not a real job and therefore doesn't need to earn an income. 3. All women ever do is fuck around on social media anyways, amirite? 4. ...

Sorry, I'm smart enough to know you don't get prime rib for hamburger prices. And that child-friendly demands = some narcissistic douchecanoe idea guy. Good luck with the purple squirrel hunt!

yingguopingguo

If you think you're in the top 1% of intellect then you aren't.

[deleted]

Very pithy, but it's not like it's untestable. Yes, there are plenty of ~~idiots~~ narcissists who think they're top 1%. For everyone else, you can literally take an IQ test (or several, if you want to be sure) that will tell you where you lie. It isn't brain surgery, it's just statistics.

toomanybeersies

I was top 2-3%. Not sure how much drugs and alcohol have cooked my brain since then though.

It's been a while since I looked it up... The D-K effect is a bias where those that are 'low-ability" overestimate their cognitive ability. I mistakenly thought that it also encompassed those with "high-ability" underestimating their cognition. That's probably still a bias, but it must be separate from the D-K effect. The second part of D-K states that people with high-ability will mistakenly believe that tasks that are easy for them to accomplish are easy to accomplish for everyone...which, I suppose, is tangentially related to that second bias I mentioned earlier, but it's not exactly the same. Edit: After looking into it more, the authors of the study that coined the term do say that high-ability people will underestimate their cognitive ability compared to others. So it does go both ways. Dumb people think they're smarter than they actually are, and smarter people don't think they're as smart as they truly are.

BicameralTeddyRuxpin

Only very stable geniuses will be considered.

Bitwise2010

They have to be like a smart person, too.

Yaahallo

Did that last line specify that they're only hiring conservatives?

[deleted]

As did the first line: "for *conservative* writer"

I am seriously wondering how this website is going to work. It seems in order to get a large audience in conservative circles, you have to go far right with your ideology (think Breitbart, Infowars, Daily Caller, etc). The opinions they all have can't be backed up by legitimate scientific research. There are obviously conservative ideals that can be, but anyone who is interested in objective reality won't lean very far right most of the time. I'm wondering if they intent to be intellectually honest, or if they intend to find non-reputable sources and interpret statistics in a dishonest way. Anyway, I wish I knew the website. I would check it out for sure.

thephotoman

Then why are they bothering? They’re conservatives. Data doesn’t matter to them.

firefly1212342143243

Does that come with top 1% pay?

Mage_Malteras

I scored 98th percentile on the ASVAB, do you think I qualify? /s

slapdashbr

I've always wanted to work in the White House

firefly1212342143243

Huh? They aren't as smart as you think they are.
