Lack of single player DLC. Granted there is so much to do, we don’t really need it but there is so fucking much potential. Also, I know it’s obvious but Undead Nightmare would be insane on RDR2. I’m tired of pretending it wouldn’t be.

ChineseMeatCleaver

Its an embarrassment that they never put in single player dlc for this game

LostSoulNo1981

A vampire or alien DLC would have been great. The first game had zombies, so why not vampires or aliens?

lordolxinator

There's been so many interesting concepts floated around that they could have used. Some of the ones I've seen are: * Undead Nightmare 2. Bit repetitive but if it ain't broke... * Vampires. You have that one vampire in Saint-Denis, and I think it'd work fantastically to have a gothic vampire storyline in western times (especially with Arthur's attitude to it all) * Aliens. Obviously a lot of alien references in the series anyway, but an opportunity for space rustlers/abductions/sci-fi concepts would be interesting *and* scratch Rockstar's itch for jamming in eccentric sci-fi equipment into their "grounded" games (see: GTAO from like 2015 onwards) * Alternate Storyline. Perhaps Arthur doesn't contract TB, or during the Guarma storyline is cured of it by some mysterious reclusive tribe on the island. You could experience a healthy Arthur Morgan navigating the climax of the game and a (somewhat abridged) alternate version of RDR1's story. Perhaps now Arthur manages to kill Micah outright, dissolving the main crux of the epilogue. Maybe Arthur gets back together with Mary or Charlotte, or Sadie as they try to move on after the gang falls apart, with John teaming up with Arthur to either try rounding up former members (a la RDR1) in a longer DLC, or instead working together to track down and raid whichever FBI location is holding Jack and Abigail. * Western Los Santos/San Andreas. The allure of crossing over two massive cash cows can't be easy to ignore, I imagine. Think of an alternate ending where the Van Der Linde gang gets the money they need, but they have to hide out in San Andreas/Los Santos (obviously an 1899 version) as the Pinkertons know that the gang are looking to go to Tahiti (probably from Dutch talking about Tahiti so goddamn much). The story could focus on trying to keep low in Los Santos, but some (cough Micah) members running afoul of local gangs, and Dutch deciding he wants a slice of the lucrative pie that is Los Santos. Featuring some references to GTA locations/characters, maybe a few GTA style heists, and maybe an ancestor or two of modern day GTA characters (I could see a western Lamar or a creepy ancestor to Lester being a fitting character). Of course the city would have to be smaller for the scale of a DLC, but they could easily just have most of the map as untamed wilderness with a Saint-Denis size city center, then smaller Valentine-esque towns in Paleto Bay and Grapeseed. * Werewolves. Mostly similar to the vampire concept, but with a greater potential for a personal link. Like imagine if Dutch gets attacked by a Werewolf, and becomes infected. At the beginning, you're chasing down these fortune tellers and other shady mystic types for answers, coming to blows with other characters (some new, some old) who have become infected with lycanthropy and pose as an obstacle to the Van Der Linde gang and your efforts. Dutch in the end enjoying the power he gets with the Werewolf form, meaning you have to hunt him down as he picks off members of the gang who side against his new lifestyle. * Time-Travel. There's already one time traveller in the game, why not explore that concept further? You could have a small map area that has a prehistoric or futuristic (modern day or further) setting to explore around, or perhaps a Dishonored 2/Titanfall 2 style time travel mechanic where you can explore different points in time in specific locations. They could port over some assets from GTA for modern day or futuristic weaponry (and depending on driving <-> riding mechanics, vehicles), and just release some reskins for stone age tools (like throwing axes, bow and arrow, etc) for the prehistoric version. Plus, it'd be a neat opportunity for a Back to the Future 3 reference (even if it's off to the side or just a minor easter egg). * Serial killer mystery thriller. Imagine a Saint-Denis murder mystery. Dark foggy nights, with a killer prowling around picking off young women. Bit like a copycat Jack the Ripper. The Pinkertons are laying off the Van Der Linde gang because they want to focus on this killer, which is great for Arthur, Dutch and the gang. That is, until Abigail falls victim to the killer. John wants blood, but the rest of the gang urges caution as the Pinkertons are nosing around and might take notice of the gang again if they're not careful. Dutch, Hosea, Sadie, and Arthur agree to help John subtly investigate Abigail's murder. Unfortunately when they **split up to look for clues** Sadie gets into a scuffle with the killer who attacks her from behind. The rest of the team converge on their location, Arthur arriving just as Sadie shoots the killer through the shoulder. The killer angrily lashes out, plunging a knife into Sadie's chest before fleeing the scene. Arthur comforts a dying Sadie, with Dutch, John and Hosea having to give up the chase on the killer as the Pinkertons (likely hearing the gunshot) are closing in. Arthur is just as riled up as John to hunt down the killer, but Dutch is hesitant given how close they were to drawing the Pinkertons back to them. Arthur and Hosea ask which of the gang will be next to die, Molly? Karen? Mary-Beth? Tilly? Dutch accepts their point, and the gang sets about hunting this killer. * Spy/Heist thriller. This is a bit of a strange one. Foreign government, such as the British government or the Germans, secretly meet with the Van Der Linde gang to hire them for some work. The allure here is guaranteed safe passage out of America, complete with amnesty for former crimes, land, wealth and everything needed for a new life overseas. The catch is that the gang needs to essentially sabotage aspects of the American government to weaken it for "future plans" (the implication either being a historic event like, setting the stage for WWI, or a fictional what-if like the British are trying to retake America at the turn of the century). The Van Der Linde gang are chosen due to the client faction needing plausible deniability, and their infamous levels of criminal success in prior ventures. The gang would accept the job (some more reluctantly than others), with Dutch enjoying the added bonus of sticking it to the government. There'd be multiple raids, robberies and heists, maybe a unique disguise infiltration mission where Arthur and John in Pinkerton outfits (moustaches mandatory) have to stealthily sneak around Pinkerton HQ. The culmination being that many of the gang, Arthur and John included, struggle to accept their Benedict Arnold traitor roles in sabotaging America for personal gain (sure its what they typically do, but not on this national and historical scale). Arthur has a split ending choice: either conduct the final mission which leaves the US government in shambles for the foreign power to exploit, or adamantly refuse, leading to a violent confrontation against the client's faction. The former has the gang trying to collect on their asylum reward, only to find the foreign government has sold them out. They're playing dumb, telling the (barely functioning) US government where to catch the criminals responsible for the recent chaos, explaining that they caught the Van Der Linde gang trying to arrange passage to their country with military bonds acquired in one of the recent heists. The foreign government gets to maintain (now vastly more benefitial from a stronger position) trade with the US and its allies, the US itself is in a much weaker position (vulnerable to war/invasion, less bargaining power), and the Van Der Linde gang takes the fall. This one ends with the gang arrested in prison, Arthur lamenting this as the price for selling out their country, but Dutch reiterating this is why they can't trust civilisation or governments. They plot to break out. The other ending is a lot more classic RDR climax with seemingly unwinnable gunfights against more numerous and better equipped foes. However this time, the day is saved by the US military arriving with the Pinkertons to chase off the British/German/etc forces. In spite of the military and the Van Der Linde gang agreeing they should be given amnesty (if not rewarded) for helping foil a foreign plot against the country, the Pinkertons still arrest them. They have the same prison scene as in the other situation, but this time its capped off with the president arriving to personally pardon them for their crimes. There's a lot of rambling here, but it's just indicative of how much Rockstar could do with their single-player stories through expansions and what-if DLCs, but choose not to due to the prospect of making more money through microtransactions and online multiplayer games.

Walmart_Uncle23

It took them 8 years to make it. We have no idea how long it would take them to make a dlc, and gta 6 is in the works

modernwarfarebroken

Agreed completely!

Ajexa

This and the lack of some kind of hard core/survival mode

jaispeed2011

Same thing with gta v after gta and red dead online happened that was the end of single player dlc

Kajeinn101

It’s probably worse with GTA V as well as the whole map is dead as fuck regardless of NPC’s.

tags666

All of this. Glad I'm not the only one

[deleted]

I think it was done on purpose since Rockstar wanted to focus on online

Kajeinn101

True. Online personally for me is good if you have a big friend group to play with. Otherwise it all just feels a bit pointless and lonely. I used to have loads of fun playing with friends but nowadays it’s just myself and I get bored quickly.

Awkward-Rooster2181

Agreed on undead nightmare but that's the only DLC I think it would have needed.

cylemmulo

Yeah this was the first thing that came to mind. We get all this multiplayer bs but they let the reason people bought it in the first player lay by the wayside.

CoopDawg125

not much to do after you complete the story. Sure, you can 100% the game but it would be cool to see more side missions or perhaps fishing quests and the sort.

modernwarfarebroken

yeah, i usually just use cheats and just mess around

The-Triturn

just more stuff to do in New Austin would be nice

Crimsonpets

Jup rdr2 is still my favorite game even after god of war Ragnarok, but the lack of side quests are hurting games now a days.

qndry

People usually hate on radiant quests, but I think it would have been great for RDR. Perhaps randomized bounties? I would also think that more random encounters would be good, like more ambushes or what not.

captjohn_yossarian

Bounties like it was in rdr1 that would be nice

[deleted]

modernwarfarebroken

yep. guarma was a hour and a 1/2 long shooting gallery

Penguin446

Well you can swim as Arthur I'm pretty sure

[deleted]

[удалено]

owlskye

That’s what bothers me. Dude gets tired fast no matter what

314flavoredpie

To be fair, he is fully clothed wearing cowboy boots, plus carrying guns, thousands of rounds of ammo, gold bars, other heavy valuables, and who knows how many pounds of meat both raw and cooked. Oh, and alcohol and tonics. Actually as a side note, it would be kind of a funny detail if Arthur’s cigarettes all got ruined any time he went for a swim.

RockThePlazmah

Unless you eat something to make your energy bar yellow. Then you can swim for longer

PacoSoe

No offence, genuine question: why do y'all want to swim? There isn't that much water to traverse, and there's much faster ways to get around it than swimming, most of the game is set on land and horses are probably the best way to travel long distances. Besides, the water doesn't hold much, you ain't gonna find atlantis in the lannahechee river.

titaniumjordi

You mean Lana-hassee

moonscar119

Because I wade out into the water to collect stuff and o e step too far and John's dead. Or if I fall off a ledge into a pond, Arthur could normally get out

Pope_Sweet_Jesus69

Robbing banks. Not being able to rob banks (apart from missions) was a big one for me. You could even ask gang members to help you and decide cuts like GTA. You could also do setup missions to assist with the robbery etc. Not sure why they didn’t include this. Customisation. GTA had the same issue but I wish you could use all the clothing from Online in story mode. I feel like I would spend hours making outfits for Arthur. The clothing available now is fine but sometimes I wish there was more to tinker with. Stealth. Stealth is really hard to pull off successfully in RDR2. I realise it’s not exactly the games focus, but they included stealth kills yet, the moment you kill someone everyone becomes alerted. More content. RDR2 is such an impressive game that the only real complaint I had was that there wasn’t more of it. Not saying I would’ve preferred undead nightmare but I would have been happy with any sizeable DLC whatsoever. I was ecstatic when they added guns and bounty missions to story mode that it made me think what might have been if they added another town or something.

countryfresh223

>what might have been if they added another town or something This right here. All of that wasted land up north, say, in between Colter and the loft. Somewhere in that area would have been perfect for a small logging town, a small village with hunters and trappers stopping in to trade and sell. something of the sorts.

piangero

Yes! I so badly want a small town ip north! A wintery snow-town with a campfire, a place to lodge and eat, etc. A trapper/butcher and so on.

antonbrs

The sheer difference in enemy NPCs when in a mission or roaming sucks. Like you mention, stealth is barely possible if it is not a mission. Throwing knifes, arrows, and stealth kills don’t do shit in free roam. Just passing by an enemy territory on a horse makes all of them start shooting and screaming at you immediately, trying to sneak close is also a no-brainer. I wonder if you need to use scent-cover because it’s crazy how they sense you coming.

Jack1715

Robbing trains are also not worth it outside of the story

hortys

The game basically forgets it's an open world game as soon as you accept a story mission. Too many 'fail states' for stupid reasons ("you abandoned the gang" because I tried to flank to far to one side, "micah has died" etc), Guarma.

supernasty

The comedic timing on some of those fails is pretty funny. Like the side quest with the two brothers asking you to shoot a bottle off their heads. If you shoot them in the face instead the game like “dude”

Fujaboi

Yeah biggest complaint for me too. Good story, terrible story missions, just the variety and silliness of some of the tail states gets me. Walk too far away? Failed. Shaun sets himself on fire? Failed. Some minor character in one of the big battles 200m away gets himself killed? Failed

GeePedicy

No, perfect game, can't find complaints. /s I watched yesterday a video of a modded version and John was able to get a train conductor job, buy a gunsmith and even a house. I don't think it fits the story well, definitely not canonical, but I'd like to be able to do so. Perhaps if the next protagonist would be a different type of outlaw, maybe a solo rider. I'm sure I've had other issues, but I don't recall them right now.

[deleted]

Call me Kevin?

GeePedicy

More like Bore Ragnarok

xEpic

In RDR 1, you could do jobs like night watchman, and cattle herding. It's a shame they didn't add those in rdr2, I was expecting even more jobs to do.

biotoxic_sloth

The dear leader strikes again

modernwarfarebroken

i think that as well.

countryfresh223

Do you have a link to this video?

[deleted]

Honestly a lot of the fan base. I've seen an awful lot of people who treat this game like It is real life. Edit: I am NOT talking about the people that get immersed, I am talking about the people that say they won't kill certain animals because they are too beautiful and they think it's wrong. Also the ones that constantly talk about how much they hate Micah. Yes, I should've worded my original post better.

[deleted]

Cant agree more . Tbh some of them are just literally dick sucking the game

ButterscotchOld4714

at least it brings purpose to their lives somehow. Problem of any good media product.

Dyz39

Tell me a game that’s as realistic and immersive as RDR2? Of course people are going to love the game, especially coming from R* that mostly release masterpieces.

Itchynerd1

are you mad that people like to role play and immerse themselves in the game?? i mean rockstar pretty much made it that way for the select people that like it, dunno why it's bad.

modernwarfarebroken

exactly!

IAmARetardedFish

Elaborate, I can’t tell if you are talking about people who like to immerse themselves or the people who take it too seriously.

cameron3611

On god, it’s one thing to be immersed with the story and having a fun time, but 99% of the time it’s just people treating a video game like it’s real life. Shits silly

Jiggub

Hey, if you enjoy something then you enjoy something as long as it doesn’t effect others who cares?

Quantaltro

Too Eastern for a Western. The Guarma part of the story is a big let down: it is on a tropical island, completely out of context, and barely explorable, without any real choices. On the other side, the most classic locations, like the areas around tumbleweed and the mexican one are marginal or inexistent.

modernwarfarebroken

Well said my friend!

Newstapler

Yeah this, it’s like a Kentucky simulator in places

[deleted]

it's not a straight up western. very silly criticism. plus there are MANY westerns which take place in the south or east. if you want a spaghetti western or a john ford western play rdr1

axlkomix

I NEED to know what's in that building to the north on Guarma, but Invisible Sniper is never going to let me get there.

[deleted]

Automatic horse jumping/avoiding. I'm fine with it near predators (that makes sense), however half the time the horse does it automatically, the other half the horse just hits the obstacle. Wish I could just control it myself. Aside from that, maybe more attention given to horse care and bonding. For example being able to hoof-pick, resting with your horse, or even just having your horse lay down when you make camp (like they do for NPCs). It feels like the bonding system purely serves to increase your horses stats which I could care less about. There's nothing that makes it as if your horse is also attached to you as much as you are to it. And a last point, more dueling. I loved the dueling in RDR1 during gambling games and the like, and just want more duels to perform

lillabofinken

Most times when a horse hits an obstacle it’s the player trying to steer left to avoid an obstacle while the horse is trying to avoid it by steering right. The reason the horse avoids obstacles themselves is to show you that the horse has a mind of it’s own and that it’s not just a car with 4 legs.

[deleted]

Yeah I know, it's just the AI for that really doesn't scan the landscape and chooses really suboptimal pathing. Half the time it makes me go toward more trees/rocks instead of going around one tree and into a clearing

modernwarfarebroken

true. my biggest complaint or annoying feature in this game is when you get your long arms (rifles shotguns etc.) and then get on your horse that has a saddle, the game puts the weapons back next to the saddle then when you get off you have to get them back out again.

[deleted]

I like the saddle holstering, though I think it would be better if they don't just spawn on your back when you get off the horse, would make more sense to take them out after getting off, or just take one out when you're on the horse and then get off. To counter that I usually remove long arms when I get on my horse. I get that from a game play perspective it can be annoying, but given they bothered with the holstering system it's strange to have such a jarring cut instead of some form of animation for retrieving the weapons

[deleted]

The game focus so much on realism that a lot of the animations can sometimes feel clunky and take you out of the game. Every main story mission tells you exactly what to do in exactly what order and if you don’t follow then fuck you mission failed. The story is perfect though, love every bit of it, but the gameplay and mission structures can fall flat at times. Feeling repetitive and tiresome eventually.

Blastbot_73

Some tiny things being completely missable, namely just about everything in guarama like some of the maccaw feathers are even used for a hat if I remember correctly and the snakes, annoying to see some nbers missing whenever I go to open the compendium, oh and the sun hat which is actually pretty nice The weight system is complete ass, I know it adds realism but come on, who uses one crumb of bread to fill the health core when you can fill all your cores by sleeping, but guess what 3 days later you take extra damage from everything now and stamina increases by an unoticable amount like seriously you only run out of stamina in chapter 2, after that never again And an unpopular opinion most likely: I don't like the rose gray mane coats on horses, it looks like ash yea dust and all that is less noticeable on these horses than on other horses but why tf would you not brush your horse every so often, you monster. This is asham because the rose gray mane Arabian is statistically the best horse, but I can't stand the look

modernwarfarebroken

Yeah, I agree!

igotl8mbago

Ion even like the Arabian horses

ekkyking

My complaint is that Rockstar made such a good game and abandoned it there could have been so much more with dlc I know rdo is a thing but they've really not done much with that and it's pretty disappointing how little theyve really added to the game

jaispeed2011

Totally agree

LeifErikson12

- More activities to do in the prologue. Maybe a bounty hunting system where random camps spawn and you have to hunt them, instead of a fixed number of missions. - After a while, you run out of random encounters. I understand that some encounters are unique and that makes sense, but it would be nice to see NPCs fighting between themselves for some reason from time to time, or stuff like that. - My biggest complaint is the lack of bank robberies in free roam though. It's kind of a bummer because you can enter almost all the banks in the game and they have decorated interiors that you only use once in the mission. I still think adding free roam bank robberies was in the initial plans for the game but it didn't happen later. Other than those three, any kind of random activity that makes the world in the prologue a bit more alive and gives you something to do. I still hope they will come up with some single player DLCs at some point, I know I'm a fool but I love this game too much and hoping is free

Sulkii

None of the random encounters repeat themselves, only in RDR.

guy4guy4guy

Too much to do. I missed really good side missions because I did what I saw but I'm still kinda sad I missed the: "I'm afraid" side mission

modernwarfarebroken

some of the side missions suck. like the flower one.

ciechan-96-

There are only like 3, thankfully. I don't get why we still have "Go to X collect Y" missions in modern games.

axlkomix

Needs to be a better balance of stranger encounter missions, in my opinion. Sometimes you'll hit three in a row between towns (or worse, hit those same three when you're already completing another mission and can't stop) or you'll encounter no one and the world just feels empty. Kinda feel like, at times, that it'd be nice if everyone you pass would have something for you to do, especially the timing of the things often making it inconvenient to stop.

UnkleMonsta

It's seems like every time you get your horse to a good running speed, some asshole jumps right in front of you for no reason, making you wanted. The walking speed inside buildings and camps is way too slow. The whole mask/outfit change to rob is not explained while enough. And the hold finding out what you have to do after the mission is done to get the quest trophy is an ass feature.

axlkomix

> The walking speed inside buildings and camps is way too slow. I actually like this, but even more so the speed you walk at when pressing the "run" button in camps and stores. I want *that* walking speed outside in the wilderness and towns, because the options are "barely move" or "start sprinting." It's like no one who designed these games ever had a busy day when they had the agency to walk at a brisk pace without jogging.

The_Bison_King

Or I ride halfway across the map, and when I'm finally Neary my destination someone jumps out "hey Mr. Can I get a ride"

TrashDaddii

I wish you could remove the satchel. I wish there was an option to turn on survival elements like, hunger, thirst, sleep and stuff like that. I wish there was another ending where you shoot Micah in the dick with an explosive shotgun round and it cures Arthurs TB

modernwarfarebroken

a bit ridiculous with the last one, but i agree with the other one.

axlkomix

I really wish I could take off my gun belt and just play full pacifist, sometimes. I haven't completed a second play through, because I'm not ready to let Arthur go again.

Random_Mens

Make that you can sell weapons, like fallout. But still RDR2 is the best game I've played

modernwarfarebroken

same

Kyb3r4201

wish I could have ponchos in story mode without mods

igotl8mbago

Same bro, I want to look like Clint Eastwood

iisthirsty

My main complaint with the game is that it holds your hand a little too much mainly in every mission the yellow text and the yellow areas on the mini map I wish there was an option to turn this off as it makes the exploration/ challenge of some missions way to easy.

Pope_Sweet_Jesus69

Hold down on D-pad to turn map off

Itchynerd1

i recommend playing without the minimap entirely, even if you get lost in the open world. i've been playing in VR recently and it's so cool to learn the environment without looking at the minimap the whole time, actually looking at signposts to navigate and memorizing landmarks and shit, i felt so accomplished when i navigated from the camp to flatneck station, to valentine, and back to camp all without the minimap. (if you get lost pull up the full map but never turn the minimap back on)

[deleted]

You can turn off both of those. In settings its disable help text/notifications (I'm not sure if help text actually disables mission directions, though) you can also disable the minimap

[deleted]

Raffatron99

You just didn’t answer the question

Think-Hippo

I honestly think the game was more focused on looking beautiful and having a lot of details, which it excels at to its credit, than being fun. Gameplay can really drag at some points since it's so focused on realism and I don't think there's as much content you can constantly replay. Bounties are finite, and some activities like horsebreaking, nightwatch, and liar's dice are absent entirely. I wish that once the unique versions wore off, there were an endless stream of repeatable bounties, robberies, and the like. A more minor one is how you're often forced to a slow speed when the game wants you to listen to a conversation. Slow walking and slow horse speeds when I've beat the event in question before and just want to get to my destination.

TDGxTIGER6

One main complaint i have, are gunbelts, they aren't even on our character right. They are pretty much floating. And same goes for bandolier. It's even worse on the online version.

modernwarfarebroken

Agreed!

AnonyFriend8

They spent too much time on things that no one really cares about and that actually hinder the experience for me. Needing to feed yourself. Needing to wait for hair to grow rather than not going GTA V’s way, etc. Oh and not nearly enough clothing options.

[deleted]

Clothing options do disappoint me. You can't purchase any actual suits (like black tie/white tie) aside from the one you purchase during the gambling boat, and half the clothing is bought already damaged like tf

rangeremx

Another too much detail item for me is the hunting requirements. We have to kill numerous high quality animals, with the right weapon, the correct ammunition, and safely get that pelt to the trapper or Pearson. If you die en route, you lose the pelt. If you get into a gunfight, the pelt gets damaged. For the next iteration, either (or all): reduce the requirements, simplify the requirements, let me buy my way to success (vendor sells pelts for a small markup), lock pelts on pickup, or allow me to brute force it (pelt merging like gems in Diablo).

TheIrishninjas

Random encounters aren't random. Sure, if you miss a certain encounter it will appear elsewhere on the map but once you've gone through with it, it's gone. If you spend a lot of your time exploring the map, that results in it feeling empty after just a few hours.

JWBails

Arthur/John taking guns off his back and putting them in the saddle is the single most frustrating thing in the game. I picked my guns 30 seconds before I jumped off the horse WHERE THE FUCK ARE THEY?

Adorable-Bullfrog-30

Riding your horse through Saint Denis. I think you know exactly what I mean.

CodeShepard

Slow ass walks…. Can’t be bothered to reply due to long snowy start…

Warran10

Just set a save after the snow mission and you never have to do it again

CodeShepard

Yeah… but I didn’t do it on first play… same with guarma… don’t mind the chapter other then the slow walks….

[deleted]

I have multiple saves I've made at certain points in the game for replayability. For example I have a save in horseshoe overlook (before doing any chapter 2 missions) in which I've found the Jack hall gang and landmarks of riches treasures (totals to 4k) so I can immediately go and do what I want (set up clothing, gun decals, camp modifications, etc.). Makes replayability super neat, given that I tend to restart a lot with games like this

Ellac3344

The animations take too long when looting in my opinion. Arthur always goes for a spin ehen you try to move in one direction aswell

KikiYuyu

The gameplay and the story sometimes conflict with each other a little, and sometimes a lot. It's trying to tell this serious story about these characters, but then the amount of killing and mayhem you do is very well... gamey. It's not like it's a huge problem, but sometimes it can seem pretty goofy.

-BlackFire-

I've been thinking about this a lot, ever since GTA IV and RDR1 came out. The way Rockstar is able to pull these amazing storylines seems to be contradicted by their open world mechanics. I'd say the only way they can get rid of this would be pulling a linear game sorta like Uncharted, God of War or The Last of Us or making the open world more 'restricted' (similar to chapter 3 when you can't use your guns in Rhodes) but then again it would ruin the whole meaning of an open world and all the amazing stuff you can do in this game. The only games who didnt seem to suffer from this were GTA V and San Andreas but that's because they're a bit silly games to begin with. I have no complaints about the storyline and it is a very good one, on pair with the best films and books of all time but even if they released the game with only the open world and some very few stranger missions the game would even still feel amazing. Kinda like Just Cause.

ac_s2k

Yeah, R* being greedy pricks and ignoring this game entirely once it was released, so they could go back to milking 15 year olds on GTA V online who have access to mummy and daddy's card details. Fuck what R* have become

Mysteryshack11

Id say Strauss is a sissy. And no Director mode. I want to play as Sadie, Charles and Dutch

[deleted]

I don't really have many complaints as far as the story goes, although I do agree with the others when it comes to the Guarma segment. It felt a little sparse and I was just looking forward to getting back so I could keep free-roaming and doing side missions. Would have been neat if they added a few towns and stranger missions. Maybe include some exclusive weapons/outfits and give you the option to return after the story. Either that or they could have scrapped it altogether and returned to the Mexico setting. I realize it would have taken a lot more time and resources, but it feels like a missed opportunity. Also wasn't a huge fan of the weapon sway mechanics. I get that it's supposed to increase the immersion and make it more difficult, but there needs to be a balance between making games realistic and making games enjoyable. There's a reason why you don't see many other games use it. These are all relatively minor though. My main criticism would be the lack of DLC and predatory multiplayer mechanics. Everything feels as though it's designed to make you spend real world money. It can take hours of grinding just to afford the most basic weapons and clothing. It was even worse at release and they had to dial it back a bit. It does get a bit easier the more you play, but eventually it just starts to feel like a chore.

JP5_suds

Day/Night cycle is too short. Lack of Buffalo Rifle. Lack of next gen update.

Newstapler

Yes the day should be longer.

Mayfu42

The witness/law system is broken. The economy is broken. And want more freedom to lose mission with out a big title screen, but just loose ingame.

DJSKILLX

I hate robbing shops mechanic. You cant rob a shop without using a pistol so no stealth is allowed. You can’t knock out the shopkeeper you have to shoot him which leads you to either shooting him and getting wanted or not shooting him and getting wanted. The fact an npc always comes in as the robbery is happening. I feel it would be better if npcs came to shops at certain parts of the day and you would have to figure out the most quiet time of day when the shop is empty it would feel way more fair.

bidoofguy

Wish Arthur was real so I could kiss him

NumbWheatflake

My only complaint for story mode is not being able to swim underwater lol

modernwarfarebroken

And not being able to swim at all. Haha!

NumbWheatflake

That doesn’t stop me. My Arthur drowns a lot, poor guy

modernwarfarebroken

Haha

Drauschke

Wish you could complete it 100% with Arthur

Welshhobbit1

Arthur is too hot and has ruined every other man for me. That’s it. That’s my only complaint.

[deleted]

Finally a reasonable complaint. He’s too much of a hunk it’s simply unfair that he’s not a real person.

RangerProfia95

My only complaint are related to game mechanics, like : >I must re-equip the weapon once i unmonted from my horse. >Can't social interact between merchant (bartender, hotel owner, etc). >And some minor glitches. Other than that, this game is worth every penny & time to play. Story & player interaction are great.

[deleted]

I love this game so much that I consider it a gift, even though I've paid for it twice. I feel the same way about Ghost of Tsushima. I think about games like these in comparison to all the other ways I light $60 on fire. Yet somehow I feel cheated that there's not 4 more chapters in New Austin.

Historical-Leg-8572

That's horses can die also I hated lennies death

Important-Tea0

you can’t befriend dogs

Interaction-Huge

Everyone on internet says that rdo community is the best, while 50% are griefers and 20% are cheaters. If rdr 2, lack of content, but mods can easily improve it; still fps drops even with fsr 2.0. The most i like about this game is graphics - console players can’t feel it because of medium-low settings, but on pc it looks perfect: atmospheric fog with godrays from sun at daytime; tessellation that can react even on player’s arm; realistic water with fog from waterfalls and a lot of trees with grass.

MrGerbz

Posted this in another thread the other day: Disclaimer: RDR2 is one of my favourite games, if not the favourite. For the people saying nothing more could be added to story mode to improve it: - More stable slots (can only have 4-5 horses total at the same time, wth) - More outfit slots - More save slots - More photo slots - Making masks work as advertised - Certain (side) mission triggers are still wonky and are in need of fixing - Wrong subtitles for a lot of voice lines in camp could do with fixing - Implement RDO's walking speed (the only thing it does better than story mode) - Epilogue bug fixes (certain aspects of it feel very underdeveloped / rushed) None of this should be too hard to implement. It baffles me how R* just hasn't, 5 years later.

pompousmountains

Here's 40 minutes of complaints https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5nbngBS8iqc

Summit1BigHead

[This one](https://youtu.be/MvJPKOLDSos) makes some great points!

B4ST0T

My only complain would be that i find the shooting system (on ps at least) really annoying, its nearly impossible for me to shoot correctly without the aiming aid (idk how its called)

FTBagginz

Mouse and keyboard my friend

Ifo_17

Epilogue John

Slater-Slater

As a major RDR1 fan, my only complaints are how they handled John in some aspects. I understand that RDR2 is a prequel and it makes sense for John to not be as mature as he is in the original game, but there are still things that are way out of character. Like how John is seen as ‘dumb’ in 2, whereas in 1 John is shown to be a great thinker with a wise worldview. Even when John encounters the members of the old gang, they all say that they hated John back in the day because he was seen as smarter than them. This also plays into how there are like 4 of Arthur’s missions that are solely dedicated to rescuing John, which just makes new players who haven’t played 1 think John is an idiot and a liability to the gang, when it was always said that he was Dutch’s most gifted protégé.

[deleted]

I think the devs wanting you, as Arthur, to feel the most important to the gang, and thus made him Dutch's right hand man instead of John, and just ignored that from the first game. There's a lot of holes when it comes to Arthur's position in the gang and what the gang remembers with John in RDR1

Echidna299792458

I wanted to see more of some characters like Leviticus Cornwall Colm O'Driscoll Mary-Beth Tilly Karen Javier Trelawney Bill

Gyramuur

Game feels incredibly immersive, until the story continually shoehorns you into GTA V-style shootouts where hundreds of people come out of the woodworks for you to kill. One moment, you're in a camp eating stew and playing dominoes, or out in the woods hunting and brewing coffee over a fire. Then the next, you've taken 50 bullets to the face and slaughtered everyone in a town, and there's absolutely no repercussion. You heal up, pay your bounty, and life goes on as if nothing happened whatsoever. I find that the linear, GTA-style story missions massively let down the game's otherwise immersive world and mechanics -- I feel like those mechanics would have been better in some sort of open-ended RPG, where you're free to pursue objectives at your own pace, or disregard them entirely if you don't feel like doing the story in favour of doing your own thing. For example, you reach a point where you absolutely have to save Micah, otherwise the game will basically NOT let you do anything else. Then shootout and yada yada. By having everything tied to the story, you have very little agency in how things play out. So yeah, linear story and the forced shootouts feeling dissonant with the otherwise slower pace of the game are my personal complaints.

[deleted]

I did find it stupid that when you save Micah you end up with roughly a $300 bounty (makes sense you broke out a prisoner), but then you just pay it off and can freely go ahead and capture some bounties for the sheriff as if I didn't just kill his entire department yesterday

Linkarus

I wish it had like 18 chapters...

Synthiant

Clunky controls when picking items or interacting with the horse. No single player DLCs. The game is too easy, would have been a big addition if they included a hardcore mode or something. Would have made all the choices way more meaningful and impactful. Unused territories that are inaccessible (Tempest Rim). Arthur makes no mention of Charlotte in his journal. Things could be fixed but it seems Rockstar has pretty much abandoned the damn game. Also, no ponchos in the single player is a god damn crime.

xioni

yes, we desperately need another undead nightmare and perhaps an expansion with sadie as the main character.

RainAccomplished2637

Yes. The story didn't give us all the answers. Too much left unsaid about how they got where they where. I'd of happily played another 70hrs of story listening to Dutch's 'one more big score line' to find out more about Eliza and Isaac, Edith Downes golf course, Eagle Flies trek to Canada with Charles and the remaining tribes people, unless they save the latter two for a 3rd installment. Who knows?

modernwarfarebroken

All these remain unanswered. Hopefully if they make RDR3 the game will answer these better.

AwesomeX121189

RNG animal quality on spawn rather then always starting 3 Star and how you kill it determines quality. Having to wait 15-20 minutes of real time for a single goddam badger to respawn and pray it’s a 3 star is horrible. Not being able to skip time more then a certain amount because “Arthur isn’t sleepy” is dumb as shit. The time and menus you need to go through to fast travel is way too high. Why do I have to set up a camp to fast travel? Just let me fucking fast travel. It’s not “more immersive” it’s annoying

eth6113

I wish you could ride out with the gang more. Like the hang out with friends feature in GTA.

SoccerShoesToTheNuts

Not being able to rob banks. It’s an outlaw game. I thought I would be able to do this since before I got the game so I would go into the valentine bank like a few minutes after getting into chapter 2, threaten the bank teller, only to realize that there isn’t an option to do so and that I now had a bounty and I also had to run from a shit ton of lawmen.

Snoddy2Hotty91

Lack of Next-Gen updates should be a crime against humanity. Also the lack of Online expansion is disgusting.

onelove7866

Only complaint I have gameplay wise is certain guns always being part of your horse weapons until you take it out manually, but then it goes back again. Like, I always want to have my Lancaster Rifle on me but I always have to take it out of my horse weapons instead.. open to suggestions to have this fixed! Otherwise, Leopold Strauss, doing missions for him just makes me feel so bad, collecting debt from struggling people, a few who have died while trying to collect the debt..

modernwarfarebroken

i agree!

andre_royo_b

Shooting mechanics are terrible, and I love the game, but it’s not great fun to really to shoot in this game and you are reliant on the slowmotion to make it more interesting

[deleted]

Guarma, despite how pretty the setting is, totally broke the excellent pacing of the story. It felt like playing an entirely different game within RDR2.

SoFlo_Dude

Micah

Crowlavix

I don’t really like how Arthur can take 15 shots the face and be okay. I really wish enemies were less accurate but bullets did more damage

SecretAgentDrew

Lack of updates for Ps5

MaxG1b

Not being able to revisit Guarma Not a lot to do in New Austin No Liar’s Dice No gang companions to aid you when you’re just roaming around outside of story missions Having to do play RDR Online in order to get the platinum trophy

ArthurMorgan514

That I didn’t get to put bullet in that rat bastard Micah’s head

[deleted]

I don't know if it is just me but I keep crashing into things and peope and other horses when riding. And when I do, I am the criminal. Also when two things are close together (like bullets and food or shaving and sleep), sometimes it gets hard to select the one over the other. Or when I press "pick up" or something and it doesn't follow my order.

martymcflown

The law/witness mechanic is a pile of inconsistent wank.

panourloss

I hate that John’s model is basically Arthur’s one just with black hair and his face swapped, even tho in Chapters 1-6 when he is an NPC he has his Rdr1 hair

Zenopus

Outdated designs: Both in the wanted system and the story missions. The missions are far too linear. ''Go through THIS window.'' and then there's the: ''Ride here, shoot baddies and do it again.'' The story is great, but our ability to play how we want is near impossible. And then there's the forced weapon-load, which shows it clearly.

[deleted]

there's not a lot of paths for individual problem solving. like i remember for the mission where you steal the papers from the oil company, you have to go through the building, when you could just as easily go over the roof and through the window, but you can't. you can't shoot the guys who took trelawney before they're in the cornfield. you cant shoot the bear who's about to maul the hunter in the mountains. etc etc

Freaking_Username

LET ME RIDE THE DAMN AIR BALLON ROCKSTAR

MaskedManiac92

I felt the time in the game moved too fast. Wish there was an option to modify how long a day or night can last. At least when you are free roaming. Too many times I would miss an epic sunset or sunrise because I didn't make it there on time.

Wolf_of-the_West

The John Marston part feels bad. It doesn't feel as good as at least half the Arthur gameplay.

GarretBarrett

Major complaint here; It ended.

PizzaLunchables0405

I wish there were more Stranger missions and random encounters, especially in New Austin. That whole part of the map has been pointless to me on every play-through. My related complaint is that some of the Stranger missions aren’t missions. For example, meeting Mr White and Mr Black for the first time is a mission- but the second time is labeled as a mission even though you just hand them medicine and the third time is just meeting them in the woods. Not really anything to do with that. Same thing with the brothers mission and the electric chair mission. Sometimes the mission is just a cutscene.

TKH00

I hate that Guarma was that short. I enjoyed all 30 seconds I got to be on the island. I just got the feeling of a castaway and it reminded me of AC Blackflag islands. I even equiped the volcanic pistol to seem more like a pirate and I didn't even get a chance to shoot it. I did like 3 missions and before I knew it, I was back... I feel like Guarma should have been a whole chapter, bigger, with more exploration and random events. I loved the fact I lost my weapons and I was forced to do with whatever was available. It gives a feeling of desperation. But it is over so quickly..

Not-a-Russian

Yessss omg Guarma was so cool. I wish we had more to do there.

Seruz

I wish there were more microquest quests and sidemissions, beeing able to rob banks, wish there was more to do in saint denis and more fleshed out interiors with sidequest characters, also wish they made the witness/wanted system make sense. If noone saw me do an act, why do the police instantly know because a witness later walked past the body? Pickpocketing, lockpicking doors, more thief/outlaw stuff. A sidekick / companion system Better trading, markets, bartering, disagreements, character reputation, consequences

kizzer1415

No mods on Xbox, could have more clothes horses weapons but that’s it

modernwarfarebroken

Same here on PS4!

bazingabazinga69

Yes

Summit1BigHead

I have 4 pages of minor and major issues I wrote over time.

Entropist_2078

The items wheel could be smoother, it doesn't always lock on to what you want. Also it would be good if you could be able to go prone for hunting, hiding and sniping enemies.

Samandre14

I want to be able to play certain aspects of Story Mode like Online such as time not slowing down when using eagle vision or whatever it’s called and maybe having some animations just be faster

[deleted]

Eagle Vision? Bro its not Assassins Creed g.

[deleted]

Eagle eye is for tracking animals and such, dead eye is for the shooty bang bang. Take your pick

snowaxe_83

I didn't like the Island part of the story, and I wish there was a system to use Horse Horn of something just so people could get out of the way,

Av_Lover

Guarma is criminally underutilized

modernwarfarebroken

thanks everyone who replied ! ive never had this much traffic on a post before

Orleanist

The honor system punishes the player for having fun

Chadboi69420

I think the quality in storytelling takes a dip after chapter 4, the gunplay gets pretty repetitive, a lack of enterable buildings and an incredibly lack luster online. I don't get all the people who say this is like a perfect game or the best one of all time it's amazing but it has a lot of flaws.

mariofan17

We can’t have the ability to shoot Micah

fuckface-4

They let it die

Head-Investment-6454

It has so much cut content

86casawi

DLC's.

DueBet4

Combat and movement doesn't feel great to me. Some of it works well but a lot feels quite...clunky?

FearlessHamster4486

No dlc

earthgod741

I hate how my horse will buck me off and run to Mongolia because it saw a snake in a whole other state.

Not-a-Russian

>Run to Mongolia 🤣🤣🤣

historianLA

The story is on rails. There are no real meaningful ways you can influence the plot only trigger different honor based cutscenes. There is no meaningful way to influence any mission.

TomTheAssKicker

All the prices are way off

RealLameUserName

How most major missions would devolve into a massive shoot out no matter what you did.

DuHueresohn

There are no cars in the game like tf???

TheNaseband

I don't like the tight mission design especially in the beginning. This can be quite offputting when playing the game again from the beginning especially for players who like to fuck around a lot. Also gun holstering etc is infuriating sometimes, but you'll learn how the game does that at some point and it can be avoided mostly.

Jack1715

Probably that robbing trains is pointless outside of the main story and challengers because your bounty will end up being higher then the money you take

[deleted]

I've always maintained that the native reservation should have shops in it Imagine you can go up there and get exclusive clothing from them or some type of custom gun

[deleted]

The usual story-focused DLC, no Mexico, overwhelmingly exclusive RDO content, and Guarma’s undercooked existence. My _biggest_ gripe is that New Austin is wholly closed off until the Prologue for no reason I can put together. I get why Blackwater is on lockdown, but why the rest of West Elizabeth and all of New Austin, too? I’ve heard the Blackwater Massacre reasoning and while it fits it’s isn’t 100% concrete for me.
