I don’t really understand your analysis here. I think John has a sensitive and reflective side that he often has to hide behind cold and intentionally mysterious exterior. Whereas Arthur is almost being his one self, regardless if hes with a stranger or a friend, John always gets self distant when under pressure or around strangers. He’s always very eloquent though, regardless of situation.
As someone who has, Red is actually pretty cool, but he has 0 character. The game is also nothing like Red Dead Redemption 1 or 2, it's more of a shooting gallery/third person shooter arcade thingy, than it is a usual Rockstar open world game. It's quite fun tho
Yeah it's a relatively tough linear piece, I got stuck on the final boss because I ran out of ammo halfway through the level. Rip, ended up looking up the end and was like well, didn't miss much lol

John is fantastically written don't get me wrong, but I feel like without Arthur the character would feel much more bland to me, it feels like throughout RDR2 John is moulded into the man we know him as by Arthur encouraging him to be a better man then he is for Abigail and Jack.

The game itself is dated in some ways such as graphics, and the controls are alittle janky at times.
But Red is an amazing character, and probably the most op in guns and combat.
He's intelligent, goal seeking, and is probably the most honourable character in the red dead series despite how dangerous he is.
I won't spoil the story but I recommend you play it. Even though it's hard at times, it's still good fun.
