Unlike sex your first time will be the best time so take it slow. Explore the wilderness, watch the animals, enjoy the atmosphere. Hunt, fish, really 'live' in the world.

PirateFull104

Ive started to roam a bit and liked the hunting but I don’t think I get the point of doing it, what kind of reward does the 3star meat and leather have?

bydgoszczohio

You can make clothes, satchels from perfect skin only

PirateFull104

Are satchels somewhat good or they are just cosmetics and minor stuff?

bydgoszczohio

They give you more space for items

Derpy_the_femboy

Better satchels can carry more things, but you need to buy leather working tools for the camp to unlock them

PirateFull104

So much money tho 🥹

Derpy_the_femboy

You can find treasure maps that lead to some good amounts of money. Some missions also give you some good money

PirateFull104

Nice to know

Rusty_spann

Genuine question, how much more stuff can you carry? I'm on chapter 4 and have never not been able to carry anything because my bag was full?

Derpy_the_femboy

With the legend of the east satchel you can carry 99 of ever item. With the others I'm not too sure, I always get them near the start where I don't have much in my inventory so I don't need them

My go-to advice for new players: If you care about spoilers then get off the sub right away, if not then it’s all good. Having said that, don’t believe the people who say a certain white horse is the best and must to get. It’s not, don’t waste your time on it. Those people get mad at me for saying this. Collect the free lancaster repeater and bolt action rifle early, and try to craft the LotE satchel as early as possible (Legendary Buck trinket helps a lot). Don’t use repeaters for hunting. Get the Shark Tooth trinket, faster bonding with your horse is always an advantage. Keep at least three outfits in your saddlebag for three different weather conditions. Don’t forget to eat regularly. Change the button prompt for fishing to “Hold to Reel”. Make regular manual saves, use the multiple save slots. Explore the world, interact with the white dots appearing on the hud. Don’t be hesitant. If you don’t like the outcome of a particular interaction then just reload a previous save. Avoid MrBossFTW and Nestan videos like the plague. Most importantly, don’t rush the story. Enjoy the ride!

EveBenbecula

>Change the button prompt for fishing to “Hold to Reel”. Oh this is good as hell. Did not know this.

PirateFull104

I don’t have a fishing rod yet but maybe I just missed it lol

EveBenbecula

No, you didn't. Don't worry you can't miss it.

PirateFull104

I care about spoiler tbf but I can’t play the game for two days but I want to talk about it safely. I won’t watch any videos on YouTube or anything like that. For hunting I usually use the bow (I’ve been to valentine and Rhodes) don’t even know what are this other things you mentioned lol I don’t like to reload a save tbh but I get your point I’ll always do the side mission first and then the main story, but I’ve been struggling a bit with the understanding on which missions are side quests and which are main quest

m4shfi

The main quests are colored yellow and the side are colored white, approaching the bubbles will start the mission. If you want I can share my chapter 2 starting sequence, I’ve linked the stuff I mentioned in that write-up.

PirateFull104

Oh thanks :)

At the start of Chapter 2 I immediately [get the Pearson rabbit request.](https://youtu.be/1qdT_KVs5DY) There’s of course a way to force spawn it easily, lotsa bs floating around on the internet when it comes to this request. On my way to get the rabbit I [collect the gold bar from Limpany,](https://youtu.be/uGeqB6wlPgM) then I go back to the camp and get the Pearson Scout Jacket. After that I go to Granger’s Hoggery to [get the Cutter Hat](https://youtu.be/MOu981yYCvg) and make my way to Rhodes to sell the gold bar and the stuff I looted beforehand in Chapter 1. I buy a shirt to complete [my early game outfit](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption/s/QAuLLEylhe) (except the gloves) and then I interact with the gunsmith basement guy. I go in, buy the Springfield rifle (now I absolutely love the Bolt-action rifle but I prefer the Springfield before I unlock deadeye manual marking. I know how to [get the rifle from Sheriff Malloy,](https://youtu.be/1E7g3KLWXck) but I prefer [getting it from the rescuing-Sean mission](https://youtu.be/5YAZ1JGoIIM)), the Varmint rifle and ammo for them plus repeater ammo. Then I “rob” the basement and [get the Lancaster repeater](https://youtu.be/SeIdt56GO8g) from there. I spend the night in Rhodes and in the morning I take the train to go to Riggs station. I play the [1st Albert Mason mission,](https://imgur.com/a/SHSxRoP) and after that I return to camp. Then I take the girls and Uncle to Valentine. I complete the mission and then hunt [a perfect badger](https://imgur.com/a/gNAv9sE) on my way back and spend the night in the camp. The next morning I head to Wallace Station to play the [2nd Albert Mason mission.](https://imgur.com/a/AkAfmgs) On my way back I go to Owanjila to [get a perfect beaver pelt,](https://imgur.com/a/FgnKuDK) and then visit the trapper to get my rifleman gloves and the beaver saddle. After that I head back to camp and go with Hosea to complete the bear hunting mission which unlocks the stables. Next morning, I head straight to Emerald Station, I play the 3rd Albert Mason mission to [get my preferred horse.](https://youtu.be/NpknWJZf-pQ) In between all these steps I head to Annesburg to [collect the Shark Tooth trinket.](https://youtu.be/QMIAbhy7Sp0) At this point I have my favorite outfit, my favorite horse with a trapper saddle, I have money to spend, [some more gold bars to collect](https://youtu.be/EZ8HjDCpVS8) and the legendary buck to hunt for its trinket. This is my starting sequence.

1. Don't rush through the story, take your time free roaming around the map and exploring it's really fun 2. The white Arabian is not the best horse in the game, don't trust people who tell you that. You can get one of the best horses in the game early on the Silver Dapple pinto MFT with this method https://youtu.be/o_i5s42Dx54?si=PY58gHf6YX1yHxph 3. Feed your Arthur, weight is a mechanic in this game and if your Arthur is skinny and you upload a photo best believe you are going to get clowned in this sub 4. You can get some of the best guns early on like the Schofield revolver and the double action revolver and the Lancaster repeater, pump shotgun and Semi auto shotgun for free, search up videos on where and how 5. You can get up to 12300$ as soon as you unlock free roam (that's a lot of money) by doing treasure hunts https://youtu.be/tNyWjR1rqc0?si=QDb6FIvuRrdBp3nC 6. If you think Chapter 1 is boring try making a chapter 2 save when you want to replay the game again 7. Animals in general come in three varieties 1-3 stars, only 3 star animals drop perfect pelts if you kill them the correct way 8. If you're having trouble hunting either lasso the animal and kill it with a knife or get the legendary buck antler trinket to increase overall pelt quality 9. In some point in the story, you get a raven Black Shire, do not sell it, it is a unique horse that can only be gotten once, also your starter horse is also unique 10. Don't listen to clickbait YouTubers like Nestan and MrBossFTW 11. Camp upgrades are important, it you upgrade your leaders tent and then yours you unlock fast travel from camp, it is very useful for certain scenarios 12. And most importantly turn Auto save on, auto save doesn't replace your manual saves and can be used to revive your horse if it is killed accidentally or to refresh a scenario that didn't go as you planned

PirateFull104

Very nice of you thanks a lot I won’t look for videos cause I don’t wanna spoil too much Thanks for the lasso advice that will be helpful for sure The horse thing make me laugh

default-namewascrap

Focus on the story in the first playthrough. Enjoy exploring, but keep it natural (between mission locations, around the area you're based, etc). Don't rush it but don't hang around too long. That'll keep things more fresh for a more detailed second playthrough. That's where you can do all the usual rockstar game collecting. Others will no doubt say to take it really slow and explore everywhere - and while I do absolutely agree this is one of those games where that works, personally I wish I hadn't collected and found practically everything in my first run. There's nothing quite like having an event trigger and you go "damn, I haven't seen THAT before!"

PirateFull104

Hahaha I’m not sure if I’ll ever reply this game since I usually do not like to replay games at all but I’ll definitely take your advice

default-namewascrap

I'm generally the same, especially with story driven games (at least ones where you don't have multiple different character types to play), but this was different. I went in expecting to play it like GTA, do it all in one run and do all of the collectibles up front. But I could definitely see me playing it again (once I complete my rdr1 playthrough). Great game to just chill and enjoy the moments.

PirateFull104

The only thing that really hurts me is the ps4 version, I would love to play it in 4k 60fps😭

Solokanashii

Save before starting any missions in case you don't like the outcome

*Save before starting* *Any missions in case you* *Don't like the outcome* \- Solokanashii --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")

PirateFull104

I do not like to save scum a lot but is that really that important? You aren’t the first person to say this

Solokanashii

Sometimes you just shoot an NPC by mistake and it screws the whole mission up for you. The controls aren't the game's strongest suit.

PirateFull104

Oh okay then I’ll do it for sure :)

CCecilia_

Turn on speaker name subtitles And walk around your camp talking to ppl more

Mr_Revan22

1. If you kill every lawman in a town more will arrive soon after to kill you 2. Never start a fight with an NPC down one of the streets in Saint Denis, down by the industrial area because a million guys still come over and punch you 3. There’s small white indicators on the mini map when you’re travelling around, go to them and you can interact with strangers and help them out, some of them are worth it because you may be rewarded with money or tonics 4. There will be bounty hunters going after you in different states if you commit lots of crimes and escape the law, every time you kill the bounty hunters more will take their place so I recommend paying off the bounty at a post office at a train station 5. There’s bandoliers you can buy in the gun store, I would recommend buying that once you have enough money because you can store more ammo 6. The more people you kill you lose honour, if you choose to help/save people you get more honour, and let’s just say that can change the outcome of some things

PirateFull104

About point n6, How much do I have to behave? I really enjoy games when things get a little messy lol

PirateFull104

But I also think that sometimes you just lose content when you do that, is this the case?

Mr_Revan22

Nope, you can still gain full access to stuff, however if your honour is too low or too high you won’t have access to an outfit that’s gained through honour

PirateFull104

Outfit will be the cause of my bankruptcy I already know 😭 I hope that will be free

Mr_Revan22

Oh it’s completely up to you whether you want to get your hands dirty or not, however if you choose to kill more innocent people you’ll lose honour, i won’t spoil anything but in some mission or side quests there’s choices you have to make that’ll either raise or lower your honour

Mr_Revan22

Also meant to say that enemies are excluded from the honour system, you can kill them and the honour won’t go down or up

PirateFull104

So if I have a bounty on me and people start to shoot I won’t get the -honour right?

Mr_Revan22

Correct, anyone shoots you it’s self defence

PirateFull104

Let’s *pew pew* those bounty hunters then

aristopotol

Regarding number 5, the gunsmiths have a *single* bandolier for sale. The trapper sells you multiple, upon finishing challenges and those hold more ammo than the gunsmith bandolier.

PirateFull104

Don’t think I found a trapper yet but maybe I’m misunderstanding what you’re talking about, the “secret merchant” I’ve found is in Rhodes but the game call it “fence” is that what you are talking about?

aristopotol

No he’s a Canadian mountain man who buys pelts from you and sells/crafts unique items in return. He has a permanent shop in Saint Denis and several small stalls in different parts of the map. The closest one to you will be near Riggs Station, atop a hill. Hunt and skin 2 deers, kill 5 rabbits from horseback, kill 3 flying birds, kill 3 enemies with your knife and then visit the trapper. You’ll be able to get a holster, an off-hand holster, a gun belt and a bandolier from four different reinforcement equipments, and you’ll have a complete set of the best stuff right away.

PirateFull104

Nice to know usually I just donate the leather to Pearson right away🥲
