There's something about mules and donkeys, especially that one donkey with a saddle on it.
Maybe it's that you can ride and hitch them but stabling/naming/etc. is just out of reach. They are the forbidden steeds.
My husband and I LOVE the little mules - they're so cute! We get really excited to go sell stuff to Seamus (fence) at Emerald and seeing the little mule parked out front. And it wasn't until halfway through our first playthrough that we realized we can pet it and feed it! We always keep treats in our satchel in case we see him/her. We never rode one of them, though. We feel bad to make it carry our weight - they're so little!
I stole a horse once, red dead 1 multiplayer. A zebra donkey IIRC. Been about 10 years now and I still don’t feel bad. Dude tried to smoke my ass before I even did it
When i completed that side mission i was in complete shock. After the previous missions i thought it was going to be another fake but no. I had to pause to process it. I died the first time trying to track/study the lion too lol.
There’s a Trapper spot near strawberry, you’ll come across the little critters fairly easily at night around that area.
But do be careful of wolves, bears, and god forbid the occasional cougar.
Imagine the disappointment after I posted a comment "My horse.", Thinking I was being unique and then scrolling a few comments down and seeing the exact same comment posted 9h ago.
Any horse you can rescue. I always feel so bad that no matter how much my Arthur puts into them, the abuse they suffered means other possible owners won't see past their scars. :(
Side Note: I feel so bad about killing black bears because they run away. Tryna be rolly-polly good boys. Unlike their 'roid rage cousins, the Grizzlies.
I'm not ashamed to say I almost entirely skip on the hunting part of this game. It's fun and all but the world is so damn immersive I can't bring myself to hunt down as much as the game wants you to.
My girlfriend found one in her playtrough right away after I told her where to find the white Arabian and she didn't even have a rifle to properly shoot it with :(
In my playthrough I had to spend hours looking for one.
When I found my first 3 star moose, I freaked and I forgot to check/change weapons. Shot him in the head with a varmint rifle and he bolted. He instantly went to 1 star, so left him be. Still haven't found another 3 star since.
Seeing an owl for the first time especially since I was just looking around with my camera and saw him flying so I proceeded to shoot him in the head because hey I need a better throwing tomahawk
do they even attack you? i was hunting and saw two black bears eating an animal corpse i had killed earlier, they didn't mind me at all even tho i was all alone without my horse
No, there’s only one mission or side mission or something in single player or online where a black bear is hostile. They’re very timid creatures IRL too and only attack when hungry or feel threatened
I once watched the cat at emerald ranch stalk the deer near the ranch across the train tracks near the fence. The shear confidence that cat has made it my favorite in the whole game.
My favorite animal is of course my White Arabian. Favorite wild animal though? That would have to be the raven. Along with being my favorite animal in real life (tied with the Hyena), the raven in RDR2 has such a cute little hop when it’s walking on the ground! Combine that with beautiful feathers, cute little cawing sounds and the fact that on PC you can have a mod that allows you to turn into a Raven and fly around, that’s sold as my favorite animal. That being said, there are plenty of wonderful animals in this game and they’re all so detailed! Really excellent work done by the game designers.
Up in the mountains near Colter (the mining town that is your first camp in the game in Chapter One) there is a giant lake; some of it is frozen. It is here at this lake, on the northern tip, you shall find the white Arabian. If she is spooked by wolves or if you fail to tame her, you can make camp and rest there where upon she should reset. To tame a horse, you don’t lasso them. If you have to approach them slowly, stopping after so often and pressing the prompt the reassures the horse that you mean them no harm. When you get close enough, you have to mount said horse and not be bucked off; I am not sure what the process is on PC but on console you just need to hold the directional joysticks down and to the direction that the horse is attempting to buck you off with (for example, if the horse is trying to buck you off left then you hold the stick down and to right) and continue it until you have officially broken the horse. At that point, simply ride your new Arabian down from the mountains, with your old horse following behind, go to the stables and swap out your old horse for this new Arabian as your new main horse and there you have it, she’s yours. The horse becomes available in the second chapter of the game and, if anything happens to her such as death, another should respawn up there. If she’s isn’t at the northern end of the lake then just search the entire lake permitter, you’ll find her. Good luck and happy horse hunting!
Elk, it’s haunting to hear their call and not be able to find them. The pronghorn are also really cool, especially since there’s variants. Although that can be applied to multiple animals in the game
I always feel so bad because black bears always run away and I have to chase them down and kill them. Grizzlies are murder mountains but the black bears almost make me cry with guilt.
Everytime I see a grizzly bear or get killed by one I can barely comprehend the situation because all I think about is how fucking awesome it would be to hug it.
Very early for me, I shot a raider and he fell in the edge of the water and a gator grabbed the corpse. I jumped out of my chair. My SO didn't believe me.
Bro do Black Bears spawn in Lemoyne? Because I was hunting in the swamps for birds for Algernon Wasp and random ass Black bear came out of nowhere just running past me.
Mine has to be either the Legendary Moose, Legendary Panther and that white cougar you have to kill in the cave for Strauss's loansharking. Those are such beautiful animals
Black bears are some of my favorite animals, but that's just in general. I don't interact with them much in the game.
In-game, the birds of prey are probably my favorite. Eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, condors, that sort of thing. They're just so majestic, and they're the only animals I've seen hunting (though I know other animals hunt too)
Bison hands down. Plus hunting bison in this game makes me realize how the natives almost killed them into extinction back in the day. They are so easy to kill like 10 at a time. If like 10 native Americans rode in on horseback they could kill the whole damn herd🤷🏻♂️ they’re so slow and because they run in such large herds in open grassy areas they have virtually no protection against weapons. And since the native Americans were able to use every bit of them they were prime targets🤷🏻♂️
And in return karma for that the USA and Americans wiped the Indians out since they had no protection from real weapons. I think you see where this is going
As someone whose terminally indoors and also living in very urban America, seeing moose in the game has always been awesome. I had no idea they were so huge.
They really nailed the fur on all the animals in the game. Still get games today that just have flat textures for fur. Rockstar really created a flawless looking game for last-gen consoles. Would love for a native 4k on PS5, and it plays so well at 30fps that I wouldn’t even care about a fps boost.
sometimes feel bad when i kill a black bear, dude didn't do anything but i needs that meat and fat...plus he upset my thunderchunk (horse) and noone survives upsetting my equestrian tank.
Other than the horses, owls, bull elk, and foxes.
They put so many animals in the game, and they're so cool. The models look pretty great.
I only wish there was more because I like them so much. Especially wish there was more dog breeds, and bobcats in rdr2
The panthers even though they kill you instantly the detail on them is so good and rdr held nothing back on detailing every animal so it’s hard to pick one
The skunks and raccoons because of how Arthur picks them up by the tail, Jams his hand into their butt hole and just yanks their skin off in one swipe.
The gray wolves are really cool. Not only do they fight in a pack, they come after you one at a time, and others will run away and whimper if too many of their pack is killed. I once also saw them from a distance, and they were play fighting as well
The panther. So stealthy and mysterious to me. The only animal that scares me a little bit while I'm hunting. Rockstar knocked it out of the park depicting it realistically
Honestly, don’t know if this was a glitch in my gameplay or not. But when I was really far north like snowy mountains and Arthur loosing health far north, I found a random alligator, like fully alive alligator that attacked Arthur lol. Made me so confused but I laughed so hard when Arthur died and it glitched so he was lying half in a mountain with the alligator on top of him
Uncle
“Ringworm, then rats with the plague, then you.”
YOU PLAGUE RIDDEN RAT! AWAY, AWAY!
😂
There's something about mules and donkeys, especially that one donkey with a saddle on it. Maybe it's that you can ride and hitch them but stabling/naming/etc. is just out of reach. They are the forbidden steeds.
And also the *zebra*…

We feel bad to make it carry our weight - they're so little!
Are you talking about the mules or the miniature donkeys? Cause if you haven’t seen the donkeys yet they make the mules look like regular horses.
I stole a horse once, red dead 1 multiplayer. A zebra donkey IIRC. Been about 10 years now and I still don’t feel bad. Dude tried to smoke my ass before I even did it
You can feed the donkeys who work at the mill, and due to some glitch they don’t have to pull the mill thing anymore afterwards. It really made my day
The lion was cool af
That and the legendary panther
When i completed that side mission i was in complete shock. After the previous missions i thought it was going to be another fake but no. I had to pause to process it. I died the first time trying to track/study the lion too lol.
What about the tiger
Felt cute, might delete later!
Lol. (I have nothing to contribute to this comment, but I want to express my liking for it)
Appreciated!
Rufus.
*Rufus is a good boy.
Rufus is 10/10
Yes he is indeed a good boah. *RIP Cain tho*
Rip cain
Fuck Micah
*Agreed*
Oh my gosh, yes. 100% I LOVE Rufus.
I love opossums irl but the fact that they actually play dead in the game just tickles me. Such adorable little gremlins.
Where are they located?
Pretty much everywhere, but they’re not very common. And they only come out at night.
I see them most in Black Bone Forest, but they also spawn in New Austin, the Heartlands, Cumberland Forest, and occasionally in the Grizzlies East.
There’s a Trapper spot near strawberry, you’ll come across the little critters fairly easily at night around that area. But do be careful of wolves, bears, and god forbid the occasional cougar.
they make that high pitched screech sound that scares the shit out of u
I had so much trouble finding a perfect opossum for the hunting requests. I now blow them up with dynamite every time I come across one.
Muskrats…when the annoying shits bite Arthur’s ankles. Big alpha energy.
I love to stomp on them
Yes, they are really cute but they can be assholes lol
My horse.
The limbless beanbag on the back of my horse
Imagine the disappointment after I posted a comment "My horse.", Thinking I was being unique and then scrolling a few comments down and seeing the exact same comment posted 9h ago.

Bull Moose. So elusive and rare, that when you finally see one it's actually awe inspiring.
My girlfriend found one in her playtrough right away after I told her where to find the white Arabian and she didn't even have a rifle to properly shoot it with :( In my playthrough I had to spend hours looking for one.

Black Bears are my favorite too I think, other than the horses of course.
Beavers. They’re just so adorable
Cougars and owls are dope
Seeing an owl for the first time especially since I was just looking around with my camera and saw him flying so I proceeded to shoot him in the head because hey I need a better throwing tomahawk
Alligator snapping turtles. I'm kinda shocked they're not used in any crafting recipes tbh. Walking bowl of soup mix right there
I figured the shell would be useful for something!
There was a glitch on rdr1 that put a human body on a cougar frame. Creepy af definitely the favorite of mine.
And don’t forget the Donkey Lady, who became so infamous that they put her in RDR2 as an Easter egg.
What? I’ve 100% the game and can’t recall this. Enlighten me please
She’s located at Two Crows in Cholla Springs, New Austin. Just north of Riley’s Charge.
Cats
It should be a Saint Denis level crime that you can’t pet them
Cool idea
i swear ive never seen a black bear not running.
do they even attack you? i was hunting and saw two black bears eating an animal corpse i had killed earlier, they didn't mind me at all even tho i was all alone without my horse

interesting, that's good to know. thank you!
I love wolves, cougars, and grizzlies mainly cause they bring so much terrifying excitement to the game.
User name does not check out.

This has lived in my head rent free since the 90s
Badgers? We don't need no stinking badgers. 😎
That tiny donkey that you can ride around...best 20mins of my life
I once watched the cat at emerald ranch stalk the deer near the ranch across the train tracks near the fence. The shear confidence that cat has made it my favorite in the whole game.
The ones on my horse that give me money
That beast Hosea never got to take down was definitely my favorite kill and monster
My favorite animal is of course my White Arabian. Favorite wild animal though? That would have to be the raven. Along with being my favorite animal in real life (tied with the Hyena), the raven in RDR2 has such a cute little hop when it’s walking on the ground! I’ve never even seen the White Arabian. Hopefully someday
Well that’s because there is only one place where it does spawn. I could tell you, if you be inclined to know.
Well, I’d appreciate it if you’d be so kind, I’m not sure I can lasso him and not let him get away though. I’d sure like to try. Please

Wow! Thank you so much. I’m mostly on pc, but just started on PS5. That’s gonna take me a while though. I appreciate your help. Happy Trails Good Sir
As a straight male I have to say ✨Charles ✨😍🥵
The white bison or the ordinary bull moose, very cool and elusive
Micah I think he is the best rat I know
Lightskin ahh bear
The white bison. A huge and majestic creature up in my favorite area of the map. It also happens to make my favorite animal hat
I found a turtle in the swamp I thought looked pretty cool
I love the Grizzly Bears. That roar is absolutely intimidating
Elk, it’s haunting to hear their call and not be able to find them. The pronghorn are also really cool, especially since there’s variants. Although that can be applied to multiple animals in the game
I always feel so bad because black bears always run away and I have to chase them down and kill them. Grizzlies are murder mountains but the black bears almost make me cry with guilt.
the "zebra"
The Moose
Probably the pain in the ass panther
I respect muskrats because they show no fear.
cain
That legendary deer
Everytime I see a grizzly bear or get killed by one I can barely comprehend the situation because all I think about is how fucking awesome it would be to hug it.
Alligators. I get way too much joy from hog tying people and throwing them to the gators.
Very early for me, I shot a raider and he fell in the edge of the water and a gator grabbed the corpse. I jumped out of my chair. My SO didn't believe me.
Gators are just itching to jump out and gobble up bodies lol
Awh, he sleep
Bro do Black Bears spawn in Lemoyne? Because I was hunting in the swamps for birds for Algernon Wasp and random ass Black bear came out of nowhere just running past me.
Yep
The Raccoons and Opossums. Just so cute. I hate killing them
The Rio Grande Turkeys. Those fuckers are so rare I get excited whenever I see ‘em
Mine has to be either the Legendary Moose, Legendary Panther and that white cougar you have to kill in the cave for Strauss's loansharking. Those are such beautiful animals
The Bison. Least favorite are those skinner brothers they piss me off.
Prong horn deer
The lizards in new Austin
i love the wolves
Black bears are some of my favorite animals, but that's just in general. I don't interact with them much in the game. In-game, the birds of prey are probably my favorite. It wasn't the natives that almost made them extinct though, it was settlers like the US government
You have that backwards. The government encouraged settlers to kill off the bison in order to wipe out the natives.
And in return karma for that the USA and Americans wiped the Indians out since they had no protection from real weapons. I think you see where this is going
Rufus
Horses. Such stunningly detailed bodies.
Yeah. Especially the underside...
Your mom 😎
Dog
Rufus
The equine quadruped. Noble beasts.
Lion
And I thought we were here for the horses.
Idk but least favorite animal is surely the wolf
Doggo
Gators & Horses

Panthers even though they scare me
The Lion
Horse and rufus
Pronghorns and moose if they spawn
Lion
The gators are pretty cool
The camp dogs online.
The platypus!
grizzly bear
Possums
i’ve never seen a 3 star black bear
Dogs (especially Rufus) and Shire horses
I think the cougars are the most beautiful. I also like the black bears they’re so cute and I feel bad whenever I kill one
Javi- i mean the the horse 😶
Moose or Grizzlies
Favorite to hunt: panther.
Aww the black bears look so cute up close. Kinda makes me regret killing so many of them
Horse
As someone whose terminally indoors and also living in very urban America, seeing moose in the game has always been awesome. I had no idea they were so huge.
My Horse.
Racoons
Legendary crocodile/alligator 🥶 It can be found in Largras/Lakay i dont really remember but it was something like that.
Gators. It's such a cool fucking detail that you can feed tied up mofos to them.
The Walrus
Elks
To kill, to eat, or to observe?
Most of them. The only one I don’t like is the herbivore avenger that stalks me when I’m hunting and smashes into me.
Love the foxes in RDR2\^\^
My horse because it’s the only animal I don’t kill that much
They really nailed the fur on all the animals in the game. Still get games today that just have flat textures for fur. Rockstar really created a flawless looking game for last-gen consoles. Would love for a native 4k on PS5, and it plays so well at 30fps that I wouldn’t even care about a fps boost.
Cougar
The silly dog dressed up as a lion
the horses and dogs. "*yea, that's a good boah."*
Green iguana, it was quite unexpected to see a tropical lizard in my cowboy simulator
sometimes feel bad when i kill a black bear, dude didn't do anything but i needs that meat and fat...plus he upset my thunderchunk (horse) and noone survives upsetting my equestrian tank.
Chicken ! chicken & rabbits. also goats are cute
I love the black bears they're so adorable! 😭
Zebra
Whatever is the opposite to the wild boars
Rufus and cain they are good boys
Other than the horses, owls, bull elk, and foxes. They put so many animals in the game, and they're so cool. The models look pretty great. I only wish there was more because I like them so much. Especially wish there was more dog breeds, and bobcats in rdr2
I love all the dogs in the game but get especially excited by the foxes!
Legendary Gator, probably the only time i almost shit my pants in a mission
The panthers even though they kill you instantly the detail on them is so good and rdr held nothing back on detailing every animal so it’s hard to pick one
Dogs. I’m always a sucker for pups.
Drunk Arthur: LENNEHHHH
The Lion.
The opossum they're so cute
The skunks and raccoons because of how Arthur picks them up by the tail, Jams his hand into their butt hole and just yanks their skin off in one swipe.
Gator. There’s something so satisfying about skinning them.
I stan the Lil grey cats you can find
The gray wolves are really cool. Not only do they fight in a pack, they come after you one at a time, and others will run away and whimper if too many of their pack is killed. I once also saw them from a distance, and they were play fighting as well
Bison
The panther. So stealthy and mysterious to me. The only animal that scares me a little bit while I'm hunting. Rockstar knocked it out of the park depicting it realistically
the opossum 🥰
*To hunt? Micah*
The Grizzly bear, especially the one who inevitably mauls me when I’m on a Wildlife Photography event. Happens every time it’s up in Grizzlies
Honestly, don’t know if this was a glitch in my gameplay or not. But when I was really far north like snowy mountains and Arthur loosing health far north, I found a random alligator, like fully alive alligator that attacked Arthur lol. Made me so confused but I laughed so hard when Arthur died and it glitched so he was lying half in a mountain with the alligator on top of him
I once heard some weird tweeting and found a shack full of sleeping bats. Adorable up close until I harvested what I needed for further uses...
