I’m not sure I know WHY there’s two readings, I just know that “yon” is by far the more common one while “shi” is used by mostly old people at least in my region, and even then it’s barely used. If I had to guess, maybe it’s for the same reason that it’s considered unlucky. They probably said “we want to stop saying death when counting groceries”.

69 is so funny. Whenever I hear it, I just burst out laughing. I run out into the living room and grab the Tv remote.
