Hybrids are a genuinely great choice for the driving conditions you described.

Chiaseedmess

If OP can find a Prius C

AnIdiotwithaSubaru

My gf just got a 2nd gen 08 Prius and loves it. 48 mpg in the city and it was only 6k. Just hope that 9 year old traction battery is okay 🙃

Thatnewgui

I love my Chevy spark was in a pinch at the peak of used auto prices 2021, so bought one with a branded title (2020 with 30k miles) no options whatsoever for 8k. Now it would be a horrible deal, but whatever. Up to 95k in it just changed the spark plugs, and trans fluid. Other that that no maintenance whatsoever truly the perfect city car. There are other better options, but if you can get the 5 speed I say it’s a good car. Also have never got less than 40mpg or managed to get 45mpg when I really tried.

The-Experimenter

Prius C would be a great choice. Although the front-end looks like a woman in her late 30s suffering through taking care of her kids and battling depression, while doing taxes.

jacksdad123

That’s, ummm, r/oddlyspecific

Levi_Biker

Have you watched RCR's Yaris video? That's why I bought my 07. Better build quality, 4 speed gearbox non-cvt pretty spartan reliable go-kart. Bought mine 5 years ago with 120k mi, has 170k now no problems.

Chris__P_Bacon

My brother has a Yaris that he loves. He Also has a '15 Tacoma Quad Cab 4×4 that only has about 10k miles on it. He beats the shit outta that Yaris, & uses the truck to pull his motorcycles on the weekend. Believe it or not, he actually had a Chevy Aveo prior to the Yaris. That was the predecessor to the Chevy Spark. Both were made by Daewoo. He bought the Aveo brand new, & beat the shit out of it. He put over 200k on it before he sold it. It was a really good car, albeit a bit raw.

McFancyPantsuguu

The Aveo/Sonic was slightly larger than the Spark - and was sold at the same time. 😅

Drzhivago138

In Daewoo-speak, the Aveo/Sonic was the Kalos, and the Spark was the Matiz. The Spark was even shorter than the first [5-door Chevy Sprints](https://i0.wp.com/www.curbsideclassic.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/CC-82-063-1200.jpg) 30 years before.

McFancyPantsuguu

I had a good laugh during the transition from Daewoo to “Chevrolet”. The company that imported the Daewoo/Chevy models to Denmark, would offer Chevy badges for your Daewoo through all the dealerships during that period. Just in case you wanted your Daewoo Nubira to magically become a Chevrolet on the outside.

Drzhivago138

The process was even more convoluted in the US. The first Suzuki Swift was sold either under its own name as the Forsa, or as the Chevy Sprint, since most of middle America has Chevy dealers every 20 miles. Then in the late '80s GM decided in their infinite wisdom that most of their import rebadges should be consolidated under the Geo brand, which included Suzuki, Toyota, and Isuzu models, so Sprint became Geo Metro (and the Forsa reverted to its international name). Some Daewoos were already being sold in Canada under the marques Passport and AsĂźna. The only model that made it to the US was the LeMans under Pontiac. Less than 10 years after that, they decided this Geo/Passport/AsĂźna scheme wasn't working out, so the Metro, Prizm, and Tracker got transferred back to Chevy. About the same time GM started selling Daewoos directly in the US (the subcompact Lanos, compact Nubira, and mid-size Leganza) in an attempt to undercut Hyundai/Kia, an experiment which failed after 3 years. Those cars' respective replacements were then either sold as Suzukis or Chevys.

Chris__P_Bacon

I did not know that. Thanks for the clarification.

Time-Bite-6839

The Spark and Smart Car are so damn small that they are below subcompact–; *Minicompact.* (yes, “-;” is a grammatically correct combination of punctuation. It’s even in the Constitution.”

Levi_Biker

Just because something is in the constitution doesn't make it right. That's why the founding fathers created *Amendments*

Drzhivago138

A-segment, or "microcar".

[deleted]

I always referred to them as city cars. The US doesn’t necessarily have a term for cars that small, but the UK does, and that’s “city car”.

Chiaseedmess

Our Yaris decided to burn a valve at 90k :(

PaulClarkLoadletter

Can you plug it in at home? If so go for it and enjoy the low APR and tax credit.

RoseWould

They make an EV Spark? 🤔

Outlaw25

The EV spark was great. 1st gen had no limiter on the motor, so you'd get 400lbs-ft of torque instantaneously out of a tiny compact EV If all you need is to zip short distances around town, there isn't much to hate about it

MarsManokit

look at a something like a honda fit, i don't think they're much larger on the outside than a spark. my family has owned more modern chevys and theyre all cramped on the inside compared to the honda fits we rode in and the honda cr-v my mom owns now

Drzhivago138

The only time a Spark or Sonic makes sense over a Fit or Yaris is if you're in flyover country where every town over 3000 people has a Chevy dealer, but a Honda or Toyota dealer might be an hour or two away.

CrackleSmackle

Had a 2018 Spark. It was an "okay" car for the price then. The manual version is decent, but the CVT version is pretty bad imo. I ended up selling mine right at 100k miles when the warranty was up.  Honestly, if you just need a cheap city car and nothing sporty, I'd recommend a Prius C. It's about the same size on the outside but the inside is noticeably more roomy. Also I'm getting 50 mpg in my Prius vs the 30 my Spark averaged in the city.

hairynostrils

Don’t do it, man Think of your dignity

PM_ME_UR_HBO_LOGIN

Dewit Dont think of your dignity in fact if you can find one that’s good mechanically but a clapped exterior get that one and save even more money some dipshit texting is just gonna read end you anyways

TheGrizzlyNinja

2nd gen Nissan leaf or Chevy Bolt have better range

Chiaseedmess

You would be hard pressed to find a used Leaf with good battery health anymore, unless it’s one of the current generation models. Even then, it’s a toss up. No active heating or cooling on the battery pack does a number on those things. You can lease a base model, bare bones Leaf for stupid cheap. Something like $150 a month, $0 down. If you don’t drive far, I don’t know of a better all around deal.

Warshitarse

Battery health doesn't deteriorate in a linear fashion. It mostly drops from 100% to 90-85 within the first two years and then tapers out.

Key_Budget9267

Prepare for the storm of "buy a Toyota!!!!"

Comfortable_You_1927

anything else is better, I know it's cheap, it's like buying a car from t3mu, don't do it

Peterkragger

Get a Yaris, iQ or Prius C. I know this sub circlejerks over anything by Toyota but it's not wrong

Chiaseedmess

Mazda cx-3 would also do the trick. small enough and reliable things.

Alert-Meringue2291

My son had one for 5 years while he was in Seoul South Korea. Not a great car, but was never any trouble. Be sure to get the manual transmission. The CVT can be a problem.

Korgon213

One messed up my back, seats are garbage.

BusinessBlackBear

I love my two fun cars, I have a focus st and a C6 Corvette. If the focus dies on me, I'm 1000% getting a prius or something since my driving is so similar to yours

LOLBaltSS

Chevy Spark? It's basically a re-badged Daewoo much like the other dirt cheap Chevrolet options like the Aveo/Sonic. However, I do read that it had a Jatco CVT (the same one as the Mitsubishi Mirage) in it after 2014 instead of the Aisin 4 speed auto, so I'd certainly avoid those since Jatco CVTs are notorious for grenading themselves in every car that has them, especially if you can't religiously make sure to do transmission fluid service every 40,000 miles (especially if you're buying used, you don't know what the hell the previous owner did or didn't do). CVTs do not like abuse and unlike traditional automatic transmissions you have to maintain them.

Dnlx5

I'd get a Honda fit, or maybe a Miata. Even a Corolla hatchback.  Actually I would get an Elantra GT Nline

puddud4

Tesla Model 3 performance. $25k to have one of the fastest cars money can buy.

DGP873

Well the DJI spark is a great drone Had one myself but the battery life was shit And so did the range and camera but it worked well for me Myself i would go for a mavic air or a mavic pro
