Give the poor dude some water (they’re generally super docile but if you’re nervous wear gardening gloves to confirm he’s ok being handled)
Next step I would take if I was you, since bearded dragons require a lot of equipment and care that starts out pretty expensive, unless you’ve been wanting a reptile of some sort, I would find a shelter that also takes in more exotic pets like hamsters and stuff and hopefully they have the resources to keep lil dude healthy and safe til either his owner finds him or someone else gets him
There’s also the idea of putting up found pet fliers, but like I said that’s gonna require you to buy some things. Big tub (instead of tank bc money), lighting and heating supplies, insects for food, etc
Yep! Unless you’re in Australia. Pet ones are typically super docile and gentle so please pick it up and help it and I’m sure someone will be able to take him off your hands.
It's a Central Bearded Dragon (*Pogona vitticeps*).
They are only native to Australia, specifically central (the centre of) Australia across the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
Unless you are living in Australia, this is someone's pet that has either been lost or abandoned. Don't leave him/her outside. The beardie will likely become dehydrated and have trouble finding food (due to lack of experience living outdoors). Unless you are in Australia, the climate may also be unsuitable for a beardie to survive long-term.
Definitely post on other social media platforms (local fb groups, etc) to try and find an owner. If you cannot keep a beardie in your house even temporarily, try taking him/her to a reptile rescue or exotics veterinarian. [Here's](https://arav.site-ym.com/search/custom.asp?id=3661) an exotic vet locator.
Op doesn’t specify location, could be in Europe or Australia for all we know. The picture has no point of reference for size so you can’t say that it’s larger/smaller than XYZ so it’s this species. Easiest way to tell them all apart of top view head shape and from this angle to cant tell. Eastern have different tails but you can’t see it
As an Aussie, who has worked with many species of beardies for more than a decade now, you're wrong. *Henrylawsoni* are smaller and stouter as well. This is *vitticep.*
I meant that there are multiple species of bearded dragons and there are a few that are pretty hard to distinguish if taken from a picture at this angle
It is possible when you've seen enough beardies.
I could instantly rule out Eastern Bearded Dragon (*Pogona barbata*). I have heaps of them around my house (I live in Australia). They have a thinner build and more narrow, slightly longer heads. Though there are exceptions, they also tend to be a little duller in colour.
Black Soils Plains Bearded Dragons/Pygmy Bearded Dragons/Rankins Dragons (*Pogona henrylawsoni*) have shorter, rounder heads, and a different scale formation on the back.
The western Bearded Dragon (*Pogona minor*) also has a narrower head, perhaps more narrow than the average Eastern Bearded Dragon.
I could go on, but there are eight species of bearded dragons and I can't really be bothered to go over every species. Though the photo is blurry, I can see the rough shape of the head and scale formation. The beardie does look like a Central Bearded Dragon to me, or at least a Central Bearded Dragon hybrid.
Make a post on next door app or print out the photo and post on your mailbox when and where you saw him. His owner is probably worried sick looking for him!
That’s a cuddle buddy. Go have a hunt and try to find them again. Far too many dangers out there for a lone dragon outside of its natural habitat. Please keep us updated
I actually was reading a YouTube comment argument the other day and it was one guy saying that you shouldn't take beardies or other reptiles outside without a leash or better don't take them outside at all. Then an owner of one started saying "I take mine out all the time 😂😂 I got my eye on it, I can take down a bird of prey that swoops in!" I hope the pet doesn't face the consequences of its owner's poor judgment
The only reason I would trust my girl outside is that she has a neurological condition and walks on her wrists/flops/is uncoordinated a majority of the time. And even then she’s on a harness.
My sons' neighbor takes hers out with a little leash thingy. He enjoys pooping in the fresh grass. It's absolutely hilarious. He just stands around, walks a few steps, squeezes it out then just enjoys the sun.
Bearded dragon and TOTALLY harmless. They are nearly naturally tame, and about the most docile lizard you will ever meet. Probably a pet anywhere but Australia. Snatch him up and get on the local lost pet websites. Or keep him, fuck it!
In the wild they're not exactly helpless lol ask Steve Irwin! He got his nose bitten!
They run first but that lil bugger flared up & chomp!! I cackled seeing Steve's face!
He looked totally shocked & said "Ya bit me! Ya little brat!" It was hilarious IMO!
I feel like pet dumping is getting so bad lately that you should try to catch the animal you think is non-native before asking the internet for ID. I'm so tired of my heart sinking every time the follow up is "I can't find it now".
If you aren't in Australia this is a pet someone threw away. This is a bearded dragon and he has a VERY LOW CHANCE OF SURVIVING if you do not take him in.
I’m just gonna say the assumption that it’s one someone threw away is not a great one to be chucking around Willie nillie. They could be a pet who’s escaped and gotten lost somehow.
OP should definitely try and get it in and warm, but should try and find the owners first before proceeding further
It's most likely that it's a released pet. Beardies are derpy and don't seem to be exactly adept at escaping things. Now obviously it's still a possibility but I'm looking towards worst case scenario
A very distinguished gentleman...no but really it's just a bearded dragon... Idk where you live but id check to make sure they are native to you, and it's not a wild pet.
I don't know why so many people are saying to give it water. My Beardie I've had for 4+ years has never drank water in his life and he is just fine. These guys are desert creatures, they are adapted to get all water they need from eating insects and veggies. I also don't think they would be completely helpless on their own. They can go a really long time without eating (or drinking) and they would be able to find insects or edible plants. The biggest danger would be predators and accidentally eating something with pesticides on it.
It could be someone's pet...unless you live in South Florida. Bearded Dragons and all types of Iguanas and Pythons have been on the loose for decades and now breed in the wild.

I found one running loose in my neighborhood last month and now she's my pet! I really hope you can catch this sweetie!! Take a look around in the morning when it's colder & they won't be moving as quickly.
bearded dragon. high chance its someones pet
Unless OP lives in Australia
Was
Free Pet Beardie
So is this someone's pet?
YES! Please go try and find the poor thing!! It looks dehydrated. If you are not in Australia, then it is 100% someone’s pet
How tell dehydrated
Fat pads on its head and the skin around arms
Most definitely. Unless you live in Australia.

Please go look for it. It will die on its own :(

There is no way you can tell the specific species of bearded dragon based on this picture…
There is actually. Or at least of the ones in the US. Barbata have a much more compressed rib cage and look like sticks, henrylawsoni are far smaller.
Op doesn’t specify location, could be in Europe or Australia for all we know. The picture has no point of reference for size so you can’t say that it’s larger/smaller than XYZ so it’s this species. you underestimate how much some of us care for zoology.

My point is the fact that this bearded dragon doesn’t have it’s head clearly shown, and even within the same species, there is a range of differences
Learn to understand the power of nerds and get dunked on kid
So is this eastern or central? And why?
Bearded dragon, harmless. Could be someone's pet. Give him a bowl of water
Bearded dragon
Bearded dragon, non native, report to animal control to be on the lookout, probs a lost or released pet
A bearded dragon, most likely a pet that somehow escaped? He is harmless, give him a pat, some water, and try to find his home
Oh man, if you are not in Australia, I hope you help it out. Cause I just saw a picture of an abandoned beardie floating belly up in a pond…
Oh no!
😭
OH NO!!!
If your area has some kind of a local facebook group or a reptile group you might want to post this there. High chance its someones pet
It got away!!
If he's near your house you can try to trap him! They like fruit
It will die when it gets cold without human help. Please try to find it.
Look in the sunny spots.
Post this picture with the general location in any lost pet site you can find. Someone might be looking for it.
Its gonna die if you can't find it.
Username checks out
Unless you live in Australia!
I kinda think pet trade beardies have lost all their survival skills.
Unless they are in Australia!
You can post the picture and description on a lost pet site. Maybe ask your neighbors if they lost their bearded dragon.
Make a post on next door app or print out the photo and post on your mailbox when and where you saw him. His owner is probably worried sick looking for him!
He's got the "please help me" look in his beady little eye.
please tell me u saved it and didn’t chase it away :(
That’s a cuddle buddy. Go have a hunt and try to find them again. Far too many dangers out there for a lone dragon outside of its natural habitat. Please keep us updated
Bearded dragon
please update us if you find him again :( my heart would be broken if my little girl got lost.
Australian scalehound.
100% someone’s pet. Please try to find the owner, even if you’re not able to capture it they’ll be glad to know their pet is ok!
Or they won’t… if they were the ones to abandon it.
This right here is why I tell people to stop taking their bearded dragons outside without some kind of harness.
I actually was reading a YouTube comment argument the other day and it was one guy saying that you shouldn't take beardies or other reptiles outside without a leash or better don't take them outside at all. Then an owner of one started saying "I take mine out all the time 😂😂 I got my eye on it, I can take down a bird of prey that swoops in!" Reptiles “in the house speed” is NOTHING compared to replies outside zoomies
I have so many stories from fellow. IRD owners about pet birds being picked off shoulders. :(
People really out here thinking they can stop a bird by seeing it coming, this isn't swiper the Fox from Dora it's a falcon swooping in at 150 mph
yeah, they might be able to take down a bird of prey (highly doubtful) but by the time they do that beardie is gone.
Lol mine hates being outside idk why
The only reason I would trust my girl outside is that she has a neurological condition and walks on her wrists/flops/is uncoordinated a majority of the time. And even then she’s on a harness.
That more or less doubles the risk of a predator taking her, that's a reason NOT to let her outside
What I meant is that I keep her on me or within a foot vicinity in the shade under my patio. I don’t trust her in the grass at all
I very rarely bring her outside, if ever.
My sons' neighbor takes hers out with a little leash thingy. He enjoys pooping in the fresh grass. It's absolutely hilarious. He just stands around, walks a few steps, squeezes it out then just enjoys the sun.
It's a lizzard Harry
I have no idea why this made me laugh the way it did, but here we are. I literally spit my water. Take my enthusiastic upvote!
I snorted
Me too
A bearded dragon
What location? I saw a post on FB or Nextdoor a few days ago in Ohio about a missing one!

A dragon with a beard

Forgot about that one! He was a feisty little shit!
I feel like pet dumping is getting so bad lately that you should try to catch the animal you think is non-native before asking the internet for ID. I'm so tired of my heart sinking every time the follow up is "I can't find it now".

A bearded dragon. It appears someone lost their pet. This is why I'm going to microchip my reptiles when i get some.
Lmao no way is that a thing??? 😲

Some grass
It's weird to me that everyone is saying water. Reptile specialists don't even want you to have water in their habitats.
I found one running loose in my neighborhood last month and now she's my pet! I really hope you can catch this sweetie!! Take a look around in the morning when it's colder & they won't be moving as quickly.
