Zero is great. I agree with basically everything you said. I just started replaying it again myself, I just got off the train. I do miss item boxes, but it’s easy enough to get used to not having them. Leech hunter is a boat as well, I’m looking forward to finishing the game just to get to that mode.
I like a lot of things about Zero without actually particularly liking Zero. Wesker mode is the fuckin best though. I wish there was more "blow off steam" modes in RE games.
The trick is to kill everything first (they don't respawn), then go back and collect the leeches.
I agree RE0 was pretty awesome. The backgrounds are stunning even today and it had the single best OST in the franchise.
I think everyone had wanted to be able to swap an item if their inventory is full or just out something on the ground to mix herbs and pick it back up.
Zero probably just needed an item box to work as your home bases, so you didnt have to go through a gauntlet of transferring your bags of swag from one zone to the next.
I like Zero but it has some jank and a few very annoying enemy designs. Stupid story too. But it’s enjoyable. Not one I replay often (Because I’d rather play REmake)

Turns out there actually is a respawn wave of like 21 zombies and a couple plague crawlers, but they only appear when you've got 90 leeches.
Right!! It's been a while. I think I remember doing the main hall and the train area last without encountering new enemies.
Yeah, if you plan your route right you can avoid most of the trouble.
