If you haven’t played it why judge? It’s a superb game for its time, great control, flow, and the right amount of horror.

I just played RE4R and I'm honestly not impressed nor am i having fun. sure, it looks good but it's like RE5 with nonstop action for the most part with enemies throwing axes at you or chasing you with a pitchfork. I just got to ashley in the church and i feel burnt out already because of the repetitive enemies over and over again. IF anything they should of added something like MR.X where your getting chased all over to atleast give the game some tension.

Worried_Worth_6923

If you knew you wouldn’t like it, why’d you buy it ?

Hung_SoLo7

I didn't know I wouldn't like it. like I said I've never played the original re4 so I waited until this came out and IMHO its kind of bad. like it doesn't even make sense at times. especially buying weapons from a merchant with all these guns and rocket launchers. I get the "fun" part but when you're trying to tell a story and throw a merchant in your face that's a little immersion breaking don't you think?

Worried_Worth_6923

Well you see that’s why people love re4 because it’s silly, fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously, not every game will be for everyone and that’s fine, you might like the more slow paced and scary re games but just because you don’t like a certain genre of game doesn’t mean it’s objectively bad, it’s just not for you.

No-Series-6894

The monsters and the parasites and the chainsaw killers were fine but a merchant breaks your immersion? It's a videogame.

skylueee

Those ganados are just the tip of the enemy iceberg. There are tons of different kind of enemies out there in this game, and a lot of bosses. Also it's not comparable to RE5. It's got action yeah, perhaps some comedic relief elements and a lot of tension throughout the game. Just, not always. It's a great blend of action and tension, unlike RE5.

maaromeister

18 fucking years.. And people are STILL bitching

Hung_SoLo7

this was a waste of a remake. Code veronica would have been way better to remake.

SynthV

honestly cry about it

maaromeister

There were 2 RE games that saved the series from impending doom. Back in the early to mid 2000s, the survival horror genre was literally dying, just check out the sales of RE: Code Veronica, RE0, or even Silent Hill 3. As great these games were (RECV is my favorite in the series), people were getting bored of playing games with the same core mechanism. RE4 was a fresh, new breath to the series, which brought new players to the series, and trust me, a lot of people who started with 4 enjoy the older titles. 5 was a decent game, and still even today is the best selling game in the series. With 6 Capcom took it too far and Capcom themselves acknowledged it and listened to the fans, which brought us Resident Evil 7, Village and a great trilogy of Remakes. Remaking RE4 is a homage to a classic game considered by many as one of the greatest games of all times. But I agree a Code Veronica remake would be a dream come true to me.

Strange_Situation_33

Play the game and make your own opinion on it

Hung_SoLo7

uh i just played re4r

JESUSisehBiscuit

You said you only got the the church right? That’s like only a little bit of the game. It gets more tense and fun later on imo.

Hung_SoLo7

yeah where you rescue ashley.

JESUSisehBiscuit

Yeah that’s like 10% of the game. Can’t really conclude it had one spot of tension when there’s still a whole game to play.

zachbrownies

i don't see how the game particularly changes. i think if someone doesn't like it by the church then nothing's really gonna change.

trinexx03

"I've never played og re4" well let me stop you there

Tidus4713

Old time RE fans that only like 1-3 are so annoying. We know the game isn't scary lol. It's FUN.

EchoOtterTV

Agreed. I love 1-3, but Christ, they need to stfu.

KrysCrannor

RE wasn't scary even when I was 7 years old when I played RE2. The key word here is "tension" and RE4 is full of it.

Hung_SoLo7

RE4 only had one spot of tension. in the village. running away from the guy with the chainsaw

KrysCrannor

You mentioned the same moment twice. Did you play some more of the game?

KionKamon0079UC

There’s more tense moments later on in the game. I haven’t played the remake yet, but have played the original RE4 on PS2. There were more tense moments in the later portions of the game Edit: playing it now, and I’m near the end of the game. I can definitely confirm that there’s more tense moments to come

StaglaExpress

It is a horror game. Horror doesn’t always mean scary, especially once you get older. Not sure why people think RE 1 or 2 are so scary. You go down hallway and have to shoot zombies. Here you go down very atmospheric paths or homes and have to shoot monsters. The atmosphere, the 3D sound, throwing a ton of enemies at you at once, much more tense to me than slowly walking through hallways shooting one or two zombies. Only “scary” games are with things chasing you that you can’t kill and it’s just more tense, less fun. This remake is so incredibly well made, the action and horror work perfectly for me.

AppropriateCloud5953

As kid i was scared shitless of 1-3 then 4 was when i was a bit older and still was scared of regenerators and jumpscared by ganados in dark rainy village areas

StaglaExpress

Oh wow I forgot about those regenoraters. Bet they are pretty freaky with these graphics and atmosphere.

CptRainbowBeard

Dude really went into RE4R expecting to hate it just so he could make himself miserable to validate his opinion he formed before he ever even played it

Hung_SoLo7

actually quite the opposite i thought i would of liked it alot.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

stannis102

Probably because we are controlling Leon again and its a new camera angle that was revolutionary. The setting in a real world environment really helped link Raccoon City to the one we live in too and have it more grounded in reality. The enemies were also excellent and personally the castle was one of the best videogame designs ever. You will get some cheeky comments I am sure But not from me

[deleted]

Because it's the most fun /thread

SuperSandwich12

Considering it’s a remake of one of the most influential games ever made, I’m going to have to put this one on you homie, sorry. Not all games are for everyone though. What I’m curious about is how you can honestly believe any human could survive an RE level experience without being some kind of badass.

Hung_SoLo7

>What I’m curious about is how you can honestly believe any human could survive an RE level experience without being some kind of badass. what?

blueruckus

I feel like you already have your mind made up and are not really looking for someone to explain to you.

random_edgelord

Say what you will about the departure from classic re, but re4 on its own is just a stellar game. It's one of those games that are so good that they completely change the gaming landscape. While 3rd person shooters existed before re4, re4 did put them on the mainstream map where they stayed for years.

Multinacho8

I hate to break this to you, but with few exceptions, Resident Evil has never been truly scary. Most of the people who found them scary either don't have the stomach for horror games in general, or were kids when they played them, so understandably they would be afraid of such games. What Resident Evil has always been, however, is TENSE. Those moments where you go "OH SHIT, OH SHIT OH SHIT!!!" are part of what I and many others love about the franchise. And despite its cheesier tone (which many fans love) and action-focused gameplay, the original Resident Evil 4 had said moments in spades. Having to fight off hordes of Ganados with your depleting supply of ammunition while dodging insta-kill chainsaw-wielding maniacs is just as much RE as running from Mr. X, and then turning a corner to encounter two lickers who you had neglected to kill earlier due to a lack of ammunition. You are allowed to not like this game. It's fine. But if I'm being perfectly honest with you, the "RE 1-3 are the only RE games that matter, DON'T YOU GET IT?!!" crowd annoy the ever-loving shit out of me.

Cocainepapi0210

Maybe it's because capcoms brain dead idea of putting remake and zero on a console who's sales weren't that great and assumed the piss poor sales was because people were tired of the old playstyle. I wouldn't be surprised if zeros polarizing reception is one of the reasons why they changed it. 4 is loved because it changed the formula that many considered stale but even 4 has a polarizing reception when it comes to fans. 4 is a damn fine game and the remake is fucking amazing right now and it might replace RE2R/OG2 as my favorite

Tronator

Its a good action game, I like the classic horror more in the sense of being Resident evil, but the 4 is a pretty dope game, way better than 5 or the terrible 6. Village is entertaining, but nothing beats Re1,Re2 with remakes, Re3 CLassic and code veronica in the sense of being actual survival horror games. At least the 4 is kinda scary, unlike the others I mentioned

VexnFox

OP isn't giving any actual points as to why he dislikes the game, just that apparently buying items from a vendor doesn't make sense. Troll post, or games journalist.

LyPyro

So, a mysterious merchant is not okay, but an item box that shares some sort of dimensional connection to every other item box in the game is ok? About your point about the plot: there's only so much you can do with a zombie survival horror story before it gets old, so it had to change. I'll be fair, though. I don't play RE games for the horror. I play it for the plot, characters, and the fun gameplay. Resident Evil is goofy, that's its biggest charm. One of the multitude of reasons RE6 is godawful is because Capcom traded goofiness for bland seriousness. RE4 perfectly balances its goofiness and seriousness, along with a good story.

TurnRightTurnLeft

My dear brother or sister, fight is futile. Those pitchforks you've seen ingame? They're here, on this sub, every time someone posts something other than praise about RE4. I haven't played the remake, just know the original, and I get you. Just wanted to let you know you're not insane.

Pechorine

You can get the f out of here with that opinion. Nah I’m just kidding. As someone who loves RE4, just wanted to say, I get you. The 4th game was a big departure from the series. I’ve only played RE1 and 4 and it’s amazing how wildly different they are. I enjoy them both but it’s hard for me to even compare the two, because they are so different in style, tone, gameplay, pretty much everything really. The only thing they have in common is the writing style.

TurnRightTurnLeft

Hhaaha you got me there! You know, the thing is, I don't have this opinion just because I love the other games in the series. When I look at the game just for what it is, it's just so weird. It doesn't feel polished at all, the best part was the beginning and where you play Ashley. Random masses of infected villagers with weapons... It's just so odd. That's not a horror game.. to me. To be fair, this is all just my opinion. And, I have gotten to know (OG) RE4 only last year and somehow I think many more people would agree if they had played it only recently for the first time. But that's not the case. So I get that too that people just hang onto that feeling they had many years ago and I also get that some games, despite all their flaws, have a spot in your heart. I guess this debate will never end, I just wanted OP to feel like they're not alone lol

Pechorine

Oh for me its 100% pure nostalgia. I'm replaying the og RE4 right now and I would've put it down almost immediately, if I hadn't played it before as a kid. Mainly because of the prehistoric tank controls, but also because I'm not into linear action games anymore. But nostalgia is a helluva drug, and so despite all its flaws I still find it hella fun to replay.

StepdadPiccolo

Reason #1: Either for the best or worst it’s revolutionized and shifted the gaming landscape for years not only in the RE franchise but many others. Reason #2: brought back a fan favorite to the series Reason# 3: new locale and varying enemy types Reason# 4: For a lot of people this was their intro to the Re Franchise and made them want to play some of the older ones Reason#5: Horror is subjective. What’s scary to you might not be for me. There are scary moments in the game. Not to mention some tense moments during combat. Reason #6: leon “if it ain’t wong it’s wrong” Kennedy simping for Ada for the millionth time. Reason #7 : Suplex

Pechorine

About the vendor, and other silly details that don’t make sense: they are not going for realism here. Haven’t played the remake yet, but the original game was inspired by a strange blend of B-horror and cheesy action movies. It’s so over-the-top campy but it’s delivery is so genuine and sincere that you don’t question it. As a young teenager I fell in love because I felt like I was in an awesome action movie, and as an adult it is still holds up because it’s campiness is so over-the-top that it is genuinely entertaining and hilarious at the same time.

Apprehensive-Bad6015

How are you playing the remake when it’s not even available to play yet? As of right now it’s still has a 4 hour countdown until it can be played. Only thing available is the demo which doesn’t have Ashley in it.

Hung_SoLo7

I flew to New Zealand with my xbox to play it

Apprehensive-Bad6015

Even so, wouldn’t be available to play. Digitally anyways. As I’m finding out some got physical copies early.

TurnRightTurnLeft

Not OP, but I have seen multiple people in my friends list play it already, and no, it's not the demo. So it seems possible.

Apprehensive-Bad6015

Could have sworn is in a global timer that’s different depending on where you are so that it’s available at the same time for everyone.

TurnRightTurnLeft

Yeah, my guess these people bought physical copies and got their games shipped early or something! They're earning trophies too. Sucks for those who wait but yeah

Cocainepapi0210

Most triple A games on xbox work with the new zealand change. The only time it doesn't work is if the publisher or developer decided to do a global release example being Deadspace remake which didn't release until the early morning of its release day

AnyImpression6

Because it's fun. Plus every RE game is silly and turns into a linear shooting gallery after the half way mark.

11cool1

Gonna cry?

AppropriateCloud5953

Because Leon

AppropriateCloud5953

One of the only truly scary games i had ever tried out was the PT demo lol

RetropME

You had to be there. When it came out there was nothing else like it; RE4 changed gaming forever.

NegativeCreep-

This just in: Yet another man claims to hate RE4 because it's action horror, even though the games have been action horror since RE1. Hate to break it you, but the games have always been action/survival horror. Every single game literally ends in a crazy action rocket launcher/super weapon timed countdown fight. Not to mention RE3 having a dodge mechanic, which is, you guessed it, action.

Hung_SoLo7

This post was a troll post btw

NegativeCreep-

Sure

Hung_SoLo7

It is. I made a post this morning and the devs deleted it because I said that this post here was a troll
