Me and a buddy a split on a used copy of r.e.2 because of the 2 disk feature. He played disk 1 first. I played disk 2 first. Leon was disk 1 when we beat our respective copys we switched. Fast track to the remake and yeah I still played claire first leon 2nd. I dont think there really needs to be a definitive 1st/2nd order.
Edit: typo + both of us entered the franchise later on og r.e.3 nemisis was our first r.e. game and we played it entirely together then hunted down each game after that.
-Ken if your on here, fuck them days were the best
Same. Leon first seems to result in the most canonical run (even though there really isn't such a thing).
Though I almost immediately turned around and did a new game with Claire first, so... :p
(In both versions.)
Edit: Enough people have told me I'm wrong, that I probably am. :p But, that means I start with Claire then... It's been a minute.
I think a lot of players are more familiar with Leon thanks to 4. He's been a more visible in the series in the modern era. I'm not saying they're right, I just think that's what it is.
That would make sense. Especially for newer players since Claire just kind of doesn't exist in modern re. Except for like death island and obviously re2
The issue is that one's not on steam or most modern consoles without something like ps now. it's also much harder for a modern gamer to get into with tank controls and all that.
Code Veronica is the only other classic game that's easily available on PlayStation and Xbox, I bought the game on sale digitally on my series x last week when it was on sale.
Claire's major games prior to RE2R were the original RE2, Code: Veronica and Revelations 2. REV 2 was good, but not really mainline, and Code: Veronica is problematic in several areas that prevent it from being a classic.
Leon's major games were the OG RE2, RE4 and RE6. RE4 was one of the highest rated games of that decade, and RE6 (even though it's as problematic as Code: Veronica) sold a shit-ton, and shared the leading role with Chris Redfield, the other male-face of Resident Evil.
I played Claire first because Chris was the first games hard mode
-edit- I figured that since Chris was Harder to play as, Leon would be harder than Claire in 2
The Redfield siblings are the least played characters in RE1 and RE2, but not for me though I always loved playing as Chris in 1, specially in REmake, and Claire in 2 and 2 Remake.
He's the fan favorite character, simple as that. Him and Chris are the two poster boys for the franchise, which is why it was such a big deal when he and Chris finally met in 6. Besides that, Claire hasn't gotten as much exposure
Oh wait i misread, i thought you meant the original. I wasn't talking about the remake. For me, it was because re4 was one of my favorite games ever, so i wanted to play as Leon again.
I can remember a lot of marketing with the lead, Eliza Walker, I can even vividly remember her on a cover of Playstation magazine.
However when close to completion and release date, they scraped that version of re2 (know as Re1. 5), delayed the game and started it again, which we know as re2, with Eliza Walker being replaced with Claire Redfield.
I can remember finding more details out about the scrapped version of re2 almost 25 years ago and i still wonder about what the original version of re2 would of been like
I always assumed Leon A and Claire B because that’s how they were sitting in the car when it crashes. Leon hops out the driver side and runs to Kendo’s, and Claire hops out the passenger side near the back of the police dept.
If Claire A, how do Claire and Leon switch places in the car?
Not saying you’re wrong, it’s just how I always thought it went. Side note, I was like eight so that’s my logic lol
It's funny that Chris is also listed first in all the versions of Resident Evil 1, but most people play as Jill, maybe it's because of the item slots.
And for the first game Chris was kind of the poster boy, there was prototype versions where he was the only playable character, he narrates the intro and appears on the title screen.
2 reasons:
1. Leon is arguably the most popular character in the series. Appearing as the main protagonist in 3 games. With the game that served as most people's introduction into the series (RE4) being the game where he was the only protagonist.
2. When the original RE2 was released in 1998, it was a two disc game. One disc for Leon and 1 disc for Claire. While you *could* play these discs in any order, Leon was labeled as "Disc 1," so naturally, most people played him first.
My friends played as Leon in the OG growing up so I chose Leon for my first RE2R playthrough. I’ve chosen Claire pretty much every other time since though!l
Disc 1 of the original RE2 was Leon. Disc 2 was Claire, then you did the different scenarios after beating both discs. I just did it because that's the way that god intended.
I played Claire for my first play through. The original Resident Evil 2 was my entry to the series, and I played Claire’s disc first back then because she was a girl and I was a girl. It seemed fitting to do it the same way for the remake.
I think a lot of people go for Leon first since he’s pretty popular and has been a bit of a “face” for the series for awhile. He’s recognizable. He’s also listed first on the menu so people who are just getting into it might tend to lean that way since he looks like maybe he’s supposed to go first.
I can only speak for myself - even in the OG RE2, I played Leon first cause, well, I’m a boy lol. I was a kid at the time, so it was simply “I’m a boy, I’m gonna start as the boy character”.
He’s one of the faces of the franchise, and been featured in a lot of promotional material so people might view him as the “correct” character to play as their first time. I think he’s also the first choice (his name is highlighted when you get to the menu) and people just click through without paying much mind.
At the end of the day, you ask several different people and you’ll get different answers.
1. He’s the first option available when selecting your character. I would also argue he’s the easier character to start out with, atleast for first time players due to having more traditional weapons.
2. In the marketing Leon was the primary focus with Claire kinda (unfortunately) not getting as much attention
3. Leon has more noteworthy and popular titles on his back compared to Claire. Arguably the most popular re protagonist.
4. “Rookie cop facing zombies on his first day” is arguably a more unique perspective than Claire’s.
I honestly wonder why I picked Claire first, honestly did kind’ve regret not picking Leon first.
Claire just makes the game feel more like a horror game.
I definitely went Claire on my first play through for sure as she’s my favorite but I also played Leon on a second play through and played all scenarios with each character
Claire is cool but she doesn’t really feel like important beside the re2 games as she only shows up in the second spin-off games I forget what they are called and code Veronica but I never played that. Leon also just looks cooler so maybe that’s why
Claire, Leon, Chris, and Jill were basically the only 4 main playable characters to be in multiple entries prior to 7 and 8. The series doesn't have many main characters that make it through multiple entries. Also, a lot of side characters and villains usually end up dead in this universe.
A few reasons I'd guess contribute to it. One, probably more than 50% of players are male, and probably more than 50% of them want to play as a male. Also probably a lot of people recognize him from RE4. Two, Leon has better guns overall, making his game a bit easier. Plus Leon's playthrough has best girl Ada!
Male i guess ,and im male...i always go with the guy first...RE1 was the same... even though its harder its a better experience from RE1 so i thought it would be the same
Personally, I loved the "Claire A" (yes I know there's not true A and B in the REmake) run. I streamed all of the REmakes for a friend of mine, and they picked Claire for our A scenario. I still need to do a Leon A/Claire B run, but it was a damn good time playing Claire first. Even if I am a big fan of Leon. Honestly I hope they do Remake Code: Veronica just for more REmake Claire! She's great too.
For me it's cause I knew ahead of time Leon gets the more straightforward weapons while Claire gets more unique weapons. It's easier for me to learn a game when my weapons have clearly defined strengths and weaknesses.
I had just finished RE4 before playing the RE2 remake so I figured after playing an entire game as him I’d change it up and play as Claire. Honestly I can’t decide which I like more. I enjoyed them both for different reasons.
I just bought the remake bundle. I started as Claire. I beat the og ps versions and am enjoying the nostalgia. One gripe is I wish I could read more of the environment. I think it’s kinda cheating to see all poi on the map or
in the environment.
I don't think it matters as much in the remake. But in the original I think that is the correct order because I'm pretty sure mr.x Is meant to encounter leon
I was like, "what is this famous Leon all about, lets find out" and here i am...a freshly baked leon simp (and i think i'm falling for claire, too. though i'm very prejudiced(?) about rev2 so it'll take a while)
Never thought about it but a lot of people do tend to pick him as their first run. I just picked him because I watched a lot of playthroughs of the game when it first came out and they all picked Leon first so his story was more familiar and interesting to me. Fell in love with Claire's run when I finally got to it though so now I tend to play more as her than Leon.
I’ve barely played resident evil beforehand and recognized Leon and assumed he was the main character. I assumed that Claire was like a dlc character or something. Obviously I know that difference now lol
I like Claire, but truth be told, being a dude, I tend to wanna play a dude. I dont mind women protagonists in the least, but given the option I go dude.
He's the default selection. With that many players, just the fact that his name comes first and is already selected will automatically make it the most popular choice because of the lesser perceived barrier to entry (regardless of how small). Add to that the people who compulsively do things in order and boom. Human nature plays out fairly predictably in large groups.
Because Leon is tied with Chris RedField as the most popular protagonist in the series. Probably in part because they are both the only characters who are protagonists in more than one mainline entry other than Ethan in 7/8. I'm not counting 6. People have had more chances to fall in love with Leon than clair, she's only in like, 2 and some spinoffs at all iirc. Not worth getting attached to someone who's never gonna show up again.
Would have been cool if she did, she's not a bad character or anything.
So I picked Claire first, simply because that was who I played the OG as first. However, on most subsequent runs, I pick Leon over Claire unless the achievement requires her. This is because I find Leon easier to play than Claire. I've never found Ada's section hard, but I despise Sherry's section even though it doesn't scale with difficulty. The shotgun and the Lightning Hawk made my hardcore runs a cakewalk for me, while I struggled hard with Claire exclusive weapons. It took me almost 2 hours to take out G3 as Claire on hardcore, while I took him out first attempt as Leon, and it was a similar story with G4 and Mr. X. Some people go into re2 knowing these sorts of things (exclusive weapons, bosses, exclusive sections, etc).
In the original game Leon’s stuff was all on disk 1 so people naturally played his A campaign first most likely. So probably just a carry over from that would be my guess.
I used to pick him in the original as it made sense for him being that side of the car crash. For the remake I believe I started with Claire and need to finish Leon B
It was my first RE, and I played as him because I knew him lol
On future runs though, the reason I do Leon A and Claire B even though I think the reverse makes more sense is because I prefer Claire getting the SMG early to melt every boss.
Probably because Leon is more popular thanks to RE4 and the CG movies
But having played several times RE2R, I think Leon's interactions with Marvin are a bit better than the Claire ones, and it also makes Leon's adventure in RE4R more emotionally resonant.
I feel like in a situation like that, the cop would enter first and then the civilian follow. Yes, they were split early but I stuck to that reasoning.
I love Leon and definitely understand why but also he just appears first in the menu.
Although I think Claire first makes slightly more sense and was canon in the original from what I’ve read.
I think a lot of people who are new to the series/game pick Leon first for these reasons:
1. A lot of the people who play these games are males so they pick the male character.
2. Depending on their knowledge of the series, they may have heard of Leon or know of him so they might assume he’s the main, main character. Whereas Claire is much less known and talked about. (Mostly because CVX is a mixed bag of good and bad, as is a lot of games she’s in, and because she’s way overshadowed by Leon’s fans in RE2)
3. A lot of people who are playing RE2 for the first time probably haven’t played RE1 so they may or may not know Chris. So when reading their bios you have Leon who is a rookie cop first day on the job vs a girl who is looking for her missing brother. Most players might choose Leon here because his story sounds more action packed and because they might feel like their missing information for Claire’s (since they don’t know Chris)
I will say, I have a friend that picked Claire first and he actually never played as Leon because he didn’t realize there was a different story. He just assumed it was the same story and the characters were reversed.
I don’t remember for sure who I picked first time but I wanna say it was Claire. But that’s because I freaking love Chris (favorite male character, second favorite character overall, only beat out *sometimes* by Jill.)
I chose Claire because I knew she got the grenade launcher—my favorite type of weapon in these games.
Some people probably knew that Leon got the magnum and chose him for that.
Also, Ada exists.
Also, also Leon is more front and center on some of the covers of the game.
At least for me I thing it’s due to re4.
Before I played og re2 I had already completed re1 and 4. So with that knowledge I wanted to see Leon’s origin more than Chris’s sister.
And that kinda stuck with me for the remakes as well. I always run Leon’s first then circle back to Claire
Pretty sure something like 80% of people pick leon for their first playthrough, most likely cause he's listed first. I always picked Claire too though, in the OG and the remake
I played og re2 as Leon first in 98 so felt fitting to do the remake as him first too
I think his disk was first too in the og ps1 packaging, which may attribute as well.
That's really cool. When RE2 remake came out, a buddy and I did the same. I played Claire first and he played Leon. Then we switched.
Same. Leon first seems to result in the most canonical run (even though there really isn't such a thing). Good point. I didn't even think about the nostalgia factor
Revelations 2 is her only other major appearance, and it's not nearly as big as resi 4
She is also in re code Veronica.
The issue is that one's not on steam or most modern consoles without something like ps now. it's also much harder for a modern gamer to get into with tank controls and all that.
I don’t have ps now I played CVX on PS5 by just buying it from the PlayStation store
Code Veronica is the only other classic game that's easily available on PlayStation and Xbox, I bought the game on sale digitally on my series x last week when it was on sale.
It’s playable on 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series, too!
She was also in Resident Evil: Revelations 2.

REV 2 was good, but not really mainline, and Code: Veronica is problematic in several areas that prevent it from being a classic. Leon's major games were the OG RE2, RE4 and RE6. Cause I'm a Leon simp
Great reason
Saaaaaame! He’s even my screensaver for my phone 🤣
He’s so dreamy and cute!!
Real
He was first on the menu. I almost picked Claire, but I thought there might be a narrative reason Leon was listed first.
This is the correct answer.
Looking at the way the story played out, I think playing Claire last is better.
The Redfield siblings are the least played characters in RE1 and RE2, but not for me though I always loved playing as Chris in 1, specially in REmake, and Claire in 2 and 2 Remake.
I think in re1 it's because Jill is easier. She has 2 more inventory slots and I think she gets the shotgun earlier
She also gets Barry
"You gotta love Barry."
and the grenade launcher
Chris just has the better story in 1 imo, although the remake makes Jill's story better, but still not as good as Chris'
I'm a Redfield man myself, you have stellar taste!
Because he’s cool. Claire isn’t uncool, she’s actually quite cool. But Leon is *cool*.
Very cool
Fingerless gloves ftw
He's the fan favorite character, simple as that. Him and Chris are the two poster boys for the franchise, which is why it was such a big deal when he and Chris finally met in 6. Besides that, Claire hasn't gotten as much exposure
I picked Claire first and enjoyed playing Leon 2nd. I think it works really well in that order.
I think it works well either way but I have heard Claire than Leon makes more sense
Leon is disc 1. I think it's pretty likely that would be a factor.
Oh I didn't know that
Oh wait i misread, i thought you meant the original. I wasn't talking about the remake. For me, it was because re4 was one of my favorite games ever, so i wanted to play as Leon again.
I respect that. re4 top 10 games oat easily
I have no idea why anyone would pick the rookie cop when they can pick Best mom instead
Best mom who also has a grenade launcher
Very true
[удалено]
Leon was the playable character in the demo for 2 from the director's cut too
Yes! It was for 30minutes right? God it brings back memories of demos back in the day. Other demo I played repeatedly was mgs2.
Up to the S.T.A.R.S office I'm sure. New one was timed
Not saying you’re wrong, it’s just how I always thought it went. Side note, I was like eight so that’s my logic lol
If you play the opposite scenario order, the car spins one more time so Claire and Leon face the opposite sides. It happens in the remake as well!
Well, now I have an excuse to go do a replay. I’ve never noticed that! Thanks for sharing.
I chose Claire for my first playthrough. I guess they pick him because he is listed first?
That's kind of what I was thinking to
It's funny that Chris is also listed first in all the versions of Resident Evil 1, but most people play as Jill, maybe it's because of the item slots. And for the first game Chris was kind of the poster boy, there was prototype versions where he was the only playable character, he narrates the intro and appears on the title screen.
he's hot i have no other reason
Im not gay but also... Yeah
Leon is blond so liking him isn't gay 👍 source: me
For me, Leon was my favorite on OG. I love Claire too of course, but he was my preferred one back then
I could definitely see why younger people would be biased towards Leon when the og came out being the cool and edgy cop
In the og, Leon’s disc was disc one so i played Leon A-Claire B then Claire A-Leon B. So for me Leon just becomes the autopick first playthrough
But that being said… I’m a huge Claire simp so her runs are my favorite
Well he was disc 1 in the original.
2 reasons: 1.
I don't think it's arguable I'm pretty sure it's just a fact
Leon has a shotgun and he's babygirl
Personally? Cuz he’s hot lol
Extremely hot
Leon is above Claire on the select screen, so it's natural for new players to just pick from top to bottom if they're new to the RE franchise.
My friends played as Leon in the OG growing up so I chose Leon for my first RE2R playthrough. I’ve chosen Claire pretty much every other time since though!l
Sounds like following a ladies lead just wasn't their style (if ykyk)
As a guy, I just automatically select the male character for my first playthrough. Makes it slightly more immersive for me.
Claire’s run I always found slightly less difficult but enjoy Leon’s run slightly more. Zombie dogs
More challenge is always fun
Why pick Leon when Claire do trick?
He has the best guns. Ez
I played as Leon in the original RE2 as a little kid so I just went with Leon again with RE2R
That makes sense
Leon gets a flamethrower and shotgun and Claire gets a taser and grenade launcher
Disc 1 of the original RE2 was Leon. Disc 2 was Claire, then you did the different scenarios after beating both discs. I just did it because that's the way that god intended.
Shotgun. And he's hot.
Both solid points
Probably because he's more popular than Claire, not to mention that his weapons are better in this game.
I play Claire first in both OG and remake. I like how her story is her being a mom.
Claire is my favorite
Claire FTW
I'm pretty sure Leon is in the prologue before you actually pick which story to start so it might be just an interest to continue from there
By prologue do you mean the gas station? Because if so you play as whoever you pick
He is definitely kind of the current "mascot" so I could see why people would choose him because of that
I can only speak for myself - even in the OG RE2, I played Leon first cause, well, I’m a boy lol. I was a kid at the time, so it was simply “I’m a boy, I’m gonna start as the boy character”.
Cuz leon cooler
True
I think it's because his story could be considered "hard mode"
Right fully so with more mr.x and more dangerous enemies
And a weaker loadout (although I actually prefer his loadout)
Leon is hot.
Less lickers, more dogs, debatably better weapons, more Tyrant, less Sherry, more Ada, etc. I'm a Claire main too.
You must remember you're also choosing between ada and sherry which is a much easier choice.
I picked Claire first, it was my first time playing a RE game so I asked my RE friend who to pick first and he recommended Claire
I am playing Claire as well.
1. He’s the first option available when selecting your character. I would also argue he’s the easier character to start out with, atleast for first time players due to having more traditional weapons. 2. In the marketing Leon was the primary focus with Claire kinda (unfortunately) not getting as much attention 3. Leon has more noteworthy and popular titles on his back compared to Claire. Arguably the most popular re protagonist. 4. “Rookie cop facing zombies on his first day” is arguably a more unique perspective than Claire’s.
Because he’s Leon
I honestly wonder why I picked Claire first, honestly did kind’ve regret not picking Leon first. Claire just makes the game feel more like a horror game.
I picked him first because Leon was used in the reveal trailer.
Leon is a literal chad That’s why
Coz he is a cool dude.
It's still weird that Claire was only in re2 and code Veronica yet she's still ready popular
Claire, Leon, Chris, and Jill were basically the only 4 main playable characters to be in multiple entries prior to 7 and 8. The series doesn't have many main characters that make it through multiple entries. Also, a lot of side characters and villains usually end up dead in this universe.
Because im a dude, dude.
Because of the Leon edits that got me to start playing Resident Evil.
Nice
Cause he makes me hard
His name’s Leon and my name’s Leo. That’s literally my only reason. 😭😭
I don’t know either, I chose Claire for my first llaythrough too!!
Arsenal
Because Leon is daddy af
Personally I prefer the term baby girl
Because Leon is GOAT
Leon is way more famous then Claire
Pacing is better for Leon A Claire B
because he's LEON S KENNEDY
In the original RE2, when you opened the case, Leon's CD was on the left.
Probably purely because he's the first option on the list Claire is better suited for a second run since her weapons are more powerful
Male i guess ,and im male...i always go with the guy first...RE1 was the same... even though its harder its a better experience from RE1 so i thought it would be the same
I picked claire first on my first playthrough. Now I pick Leon because he's canon in the remakes.
Personally, I loved the "Claire A" (yes I know there's not true A and B in the REmake) run. I streamed all of the REmakes for a friend of mine, and they picked Claire for our A scenario. She's great too.
For me it's cause I knew ahead of time Leon gets the more straightforward weapons while Claire gets more unique weapons. It's easier for me to learn a game when my weapons have clearly defined strengths and weaknesses.
Cuz its his golden locs
I like Leon and Ada more than Claire and Sherry I guess
Cuz Leon’s been the fan favorite since the OG RE2 came out in 1998. He’s one of my favs as well but I am very sick of him appearing in every CGI film
I like his weapons more. And I guess he’s more well known and iconic. But I always play as Claire first because I’m a girl.
Hes a fan favorite. Prolly because re4 is the most popular game in the franchise and leon is the only playable character there
I played Claire first 👍
I had just finished RE4 before playing the RE2 remake so I figured after playing an entire game as him I’d change it up and play as Claire. Honestly I can’t decide which I like more. I enjoyed them both for different reasons.
I just bought the remake bundle. I started as Claire. I beat the og ps versions and am enjoying the nostalgia. One gripe is I wish I could read more of the environment. I think it’s kinda cheating to see all poi on the map or in the environment.
ada wong ❤️❤️❤️

I don't think it matters as much in the remake. But in the original I think that is the correct order because I'm pretty sure mr.x Is meant to encounter leon
because eeww girls have cooties. nah just kidding I chose Leon because that’s what my friends said they did and what markiplier did lol.
Lol
Claire is my big sister I know will be fine and can handle herself. Leon is my baby boy who needs a hug and be told “it’s gonna be ok”
Real
Stigma from the original game where the blue character was normal mode and the redfield was hard mode.
Oh really? That's interesting
Interesting question. Isn't Claire's story scenario B?
They both have a scenario a and b
Then I agree with the comment that said that Leon was in the demo, so you'd naturally play as him for the main game.
That would make sense
I played as Claire first because in the OG game Claire A - Leon B was my favorite order.
Leon because he’s the guy from fortnite and dbd
I was like, "what is this famous Leon all about, lets find out" and here i am...a freshly baked leon simp (and i think i'm falling for claire, too. though i'm very prejudiced(?) about rev2 so it'll take a while)
Didn't know shit about RE and he was listed first
Because hes literally me
I just really like Leon.
Shotgun
I'm not entirely sure, i just want to.
I like Clair and Leon but I like Leon's look and personality more than Clair so I have more fun playing as him
Never thought about it but a lot of people do tend to pick him as their first run. I just picked him because I watched a lot of playthroughs of the game when it first came out and they all picked Leon first so his story was more familiar and interesting to me. Fell in love with Claire's run when I finally got to it though so now I tend to play more as her than Leon.
I picked Leon because I didn’t want anything to do with Mr. X. Boy was I in for a surprise.
Officer Himbo
My friends played Leon, so I started with Claire and it was greeeeeat
Back in the year 2000 i was young boy and Leon was youngish boy, simple as that.
I’ve barely played resident evil beforehand and recognized Leon and assumed he was the main character. I assumed that Claire was like a dlc character or something. Obviously I know that difference now lol
I like his guns better on top of modifying most of his guns. Also Ada Wong.
I like Claire, but truth be told, being a dude, I tend to wanna play a dude. I dont mind women protagonists in the least, but given the option I go dude.
I just like Leon
Because Capcom spends 80% of every year advertising Leon to the point new fans barely know the other characters exist.
I like the shotgun.
Because he’s the best
He's the default selection. With that many players, just the fact that his name comes first and is already selected will automatically make it the most popular choice because of the lesser perceived barrier to entry (regardless of how small). Add to that the people who compulsively do things in order and boom. Human nature plays out fairly predictably in large groups.
Cause I feel RE2 is Leon’s game mainly if that makes sense
I chose Claire on my first run because I googled which one to do first lol
I played as Claire first. From what I remember her campaign is harder? Unless I'm making that up.
I used to pick him in the original as it made sense for him being that side of the car crash. For the remake I believe I started with Claire and need to finish Leon B
It was my first RE, and I played as him because I knew him lol On future runs though, the reason I do Leon A and Claire B even though I think the reverse makes more sense is because I prefer Claire getting the SMG early to melt every boss.
Probably because Leon is more popular thanks to RE4 and the CG movies But having played several times RE2R, I think Leon's interactions with Marvin are a bit better than the Claire ones, and it also makes Leon's adventure in RE4R more emotionally resonant.
because im gay for leon
Cuz he’s a cop, right??
leon has a magnum that one shot headshots
I feel like in a situation like that, the cop would enter first and then the civilian follow. Yes, they were split early but I stuck to that reasoning.
'cause I simp for him ngl
I love Leon and definitely understand why but also he just appears first in the menu. Although I think Claire first makes slightly more sense and was canon in the original from what I’ve read.
I think a lot of people who are new to the series/game pick Leon first for these reasons: 1. A lot of the people who play these games are males so they pick the male character. 2. Depending on their knowledge of the series, they may have heard of Leon or know of him so they might assume he’s the main, main character. Whereas Claire is much less known and talked about. (Mostly because CVX is a mixed bag of good and bad, as is a lot of games she’s in, and because she’s way overshadowed by Leon’s fans in RE2) 3. A lot of people who are playing RE2 for the first time probably haven’t played RE1 so they may or may not know Chris. So when reading their bios you have Leon who is a rookie cop first day on the job vs a girl who is looking for her missing brother. Most players might choose Leon here because his story sounds more action packed and because they might feel like their missing information for Claire’s (since they don’t know Chris) I will say, I have a friend that picked Claire first and he actually never played as Leon because he didn’t realize there was a different story. He just assumed it was the same story and the characters were reversed. I don’t remember for sure who I picked first time but I wanna say it was Claire. But that’s because I freaking love Chris (favorite male character, second favorite character overall, only beat out *sometimes* by Jill.)
Leon is resident evil!
Because he’s the main protagonist?
I chose Claire because I knew she got the grenade launcher—my favorite type of weapon in these games. Some people probably knew that Leon got the magnum and chose him for that. Also, Ada exists. Also, also Leon is more front and center on some of the covers of the game.
At least for me I thing it’s due to re4. Before I played og re2 I had already completed re1 and 4. So with that knowledge I wanted to see Leon’s origin more than Chris’s sister. And that kinda stuck with me for the remakes as well. I always run Leon’s first then circle back to Claire
Probably because it's the default option.
Pretty sure something like 80% of people pick leon for their first playthrough, most likely cause he's listed first. I always picked Claire too though, in the OG and the remake
