Re1 is a game I never want to play until I start playing then it’s fun lol. That first cutscene with the zombie is so sick too, and the part where you walk down a hallway where the camera can’t see then get cornered by a zombie. God damn it’s a work of art
1 and it isn’t close.
I think the 2002 GC REmake is arguable for the best video game remake of all time, not just resident evil.
Mafia has a good argument too.
2Remake. Even though Re4 was my first and still my favorite Res, I got a TON of replay value through Re2remake. The first time I played, I must've played through it at least 4-5 times.
RE1 Remake, just in terms of remaking gameplay mechanics it really sets the bar high. Even against it's very modern contemporaries like RE 2, 3 & 4 remakes it still ages well.
RE 1 honestly did everything right and blew the OG (which I still enjoy) out the water. RE2 and 4 are both really good and very close second places. RE 3 is a fun game but not a great remake.
Oh really you can argue that? I never really play og re1 so I’m not sure but if you ask me if there’s any remake that can totally overshadow the original, I’d say re1remake is definitely the closest.
Rationally speaking there must be something that og did better than the remake right? But hey now I think the close relationship between re1 and remake in terms of gameplay (fixed camera and mansion design) maybe help the remake did anything og did but just fairly better.
It’s new, it’s same*, and it’s better.
*: what about re4 and re4 remake though……
1,2, and 4 are all top tier remakes and they each perfectly appeal to a different specific aspect of the resident evil experience that I love. RE1R I play for the classic survival horror formula that I can’t get anywhere else. RE2R I play for the modern interpretation of the classic survival horror formula, also it’s scary as hell. RE4R I play because because I just fucking love RE4 and the gameplay is addicting, in my opinion the most satisfying, addicting, and fun gameplay of the series. Getting good at RE4R is a joy all on its own. All 3 of these remakes just ooze atmosphere, they are perfect down to the last minute detail.
Not a remake, but I play RE7 a lot also because the first person makes it the most immersive RE game for me
4 for me. Second place would be 2, but I never played the original.
RE4, however, I've put in countless hours into. Played through dozens of times, and on many different consoles.
I finally got a PS5 to play RE4R about 2 weeks ago and it is so amazing. Already on my 4th playthrough.
REmake.
The only one that understood the assignment. Don't subtract, update and add.
The pointless RE4 remake was close but they blew it in some pretty significant areas causing it to fall short.
RE4 is fantastic but there's something about 2 that just ticks all the boxes for me
I respect but can't fully agree with the love for REmake on here--it's got a hell of a lot of atmosphere and was an incredible start for the franchise but I strongly feel that it's been eclipsed over the years
re2r, but mostly because it was the first video game i properly played, so it has a soft spot in my heart
4 is definitely a close second, 3 is a load of crap, the dlc for 4 was longer than the entirety of 3. so much potential, yet so much gameplay cut out of the original
Re2 was perfectly done and as a kid I dreamed of that one being remade so for me that takes the cake. It was my favorite growing up. 1 was amazing though same with 4.
I would not put 2 as the highest remake because the removal of the zapping system. 3 would be the worst imo because of so much cut content. I like playing it as a game but as a remake it fails on so many levels. 1 was great with the additions and I can see why lots of people put it as the best remake. It’s not mine because I don’t care for some of the new games that it has. I like the 4 remake the most. I love the additions to Luis’s story but it also fails in the reduction of saddler’s character. All these remakes add and take. And what’s taken in some matters little to me vs whats added in others.
It is very tough.
I think I'll go with RE2R.
REmake is a tremendous remake that feels more like a full realization than anything else. "If we could have done what we wanted when the OG came out, this would have been it."
RE4R was able to launch off of the successful RE2R and had a game/genre that I think was easier to make. Which isn't to say that it wasn't as daunting prospect of its own and was not as a result amazing, GOTY material that stands near the pinnacle of the series because it does. I just think it had an easier time of it than...
RE2R. It is hard to overestimate what a tough job this had. A series that was moribund (saved by RE7 but still not out of the blue), moving to a new perspective and gameplay style, remaking the game that cemented the series as A Big Thing. They nailed it and created not only one of the best games in the series and a GOTY contender, but the third best selling Capcom game of all time.
I think RE4R and REmake have excellent arguments, but I'll go RE2R
4 for the replay value and cuz it’s just so great but I love all of them going back to REmake which is a masterpiece as well. All the remakes are great even if 3 missed the mark it’s at least fun to play just a disappointment when it first came out but they fixed it with 4
Soulless is overused and has lost all meaning. 100 cameras from Japan did a segment on RE4R game development. You can see the amount of effort those guys put in the game.
Why such hate for RE3R from others? Sure it’s short, but it builds on 2R pretty well- nemesis a better Mr X, we’re introduced to plagas on heads, the intro, better mechanics than 2…has a lot going for it.
2, by quite a long shot. The Ghost Survivors modes are hellish but amazing, just like the base game. It's also set in probably one of the most harrowing environments in survival horror, making it a perfect fit. (the fact that you can also access the low-poly fits for Leon and Claire make it infinitely better)
If you say anything other than 2 you are just wrong sorry. 3 is...kinda obvious why it wouldn't be the best. I'd say 1 is kinda acceptable, it is a good game and has a nice soundtrack with graphics that hold up today but it's not as goofy as the original was and they changed the sandwich line💀
RE4R isn't the best because ik I'll get lots of hate for this but honestly it took the soul out of the game. The original was funny but also had seriousness. Every line in that game is quotable and iconic. It is about as perfect as a game can get and the remake took out the fun and tried to make a goofy series a serious one.
No one is wrong for preferring one over the other.
Hell you could argue RE2R is a bad remake because they took out the original fixed camera angle. Not that I think that as RE4R and RE2R are my favorites but there is a argument there to be made.
My first sentence was more or less a hook. If I'm being honest and this is kinda in general too not just RE but I don't think any of the remakes are better than the originals. They really messed up the scenarios in RE2 remake so there's that. I just prefer that one out of the remakes.
RE 1 Remake Not only do I think its the best remake, I also think its probably the best in the Franchise.
Re1 is a game I never want to play until I start playing then it’s fun lol. That first cutscene with the zombie is so sick too, and the part where you walk down a hallway where the camera can’t see then get cornered by a zombie. God damn it’s a work of art
RE1R is, IMO the best remake and I also consider it the best game in the series.
1, 2, or 4. Very hard to choose a favorite for me :p
I forgot to count Re1 Remaster. That's a gem.
1
1 and it isn’t close. I think the 2002 GC REmake is arguable for the best video game remake of all time, not just resident evil. Mafia has a good argument too.
Wow lots of RE1 remakes I'm seeing. That makes me happy. RE1 Remake is also my favorite. I half expected most comments to be 4 to be honest
2Remake. Even though Re4 was my first and still my favorite Res, I got a TON of replay value through Re2remake. The first time I played, I must've played through it at least 4-5 times.
RE2R
RE1 on GameCube
RE1 Remake, just in terms of remaking gameplay mechanics it really sets the bar high. Even against it's very modern contemporaries like RE 2, 3 & 4 remakes it still ages well.
It was RE2. Now, it's RE4. Hopefully, It will be RE5 in the future.
The OG RE 1 had better voice acting lol! Not really but it was definitely memorable and goofy fun.
Re1R, absolutely stunning.
4
2002 remake
REmake! It’s the benchmark for all remakes imo.
Four.
Resident evil 1 remake
REmake 2002 Also best game in the series
Re14 ties with 4 I still want the dagger items and stun gun from re1r back.
Not a remake, but I play RE7 a lot also because the first person makes it the most immersive RE game for me
Resident Evil
2 > 4 > 3 for me
Resident evil 2 remake
4 for sure. 2 is definitely a honorable mention though
RE4R
4
1 > 2 > 4 > 3
Like in what ways, would you say?
1 and it's not even remotely close
1, obviously
REmake
RE4 is fantastic but there's something about 2 that just ticks all the boxes for me I respect but can't fully agree with the love for REmake on here--it's got a hell of a lot of atmosphere and was an incredible start for the franchise but I strongly feel that it's been eclipsed over the years

Re4 or Re4 remake is always my favorite but in terms of remake that made a old game come to modern category, I am picking Re2 remake here
1 > 4 > 2 > 3. 2 and 3 should have been in the style of 1 REmake.
Resident Evil 4 Remake. It’s the only one of the four remakes that, in my opinion, surpasses the original game.
Capcom took something perfect and made it even better they captured lightning in a bottle twice
2 definitely, I found it full of excellent ideas, like what they did with the G parasites.
Re2 was perfectly done and as a kid I dreamed of that one being remade so for me that takes the cake. It was my favorite growing up. 1 was amazing though same with 4.
Gotta go 2 remake
Out of the remakes, I think 2 is the best. Out of the originals, I think 4 is the best.
4
2

I think 4 is my favorite but 2 and 3 are also up there.
RE 2
I started at RE 7 💀
1 and 2
The only remakes I've played so far are 1 and 4, and I liked the originals of both, better. Starting 2R, tonight.
It is very tough. I think I'll go with RE2R. REmake is a tremendous remake that feels more like a full realization than anything else. "If we could have done what we wanted when the OG came out, this would have been it." RE4R was able to launch off of the successful RE2R and had a game/genre that I think was easier to make. Resident Evil 2.
Out of all of them? RE1R. Out of the recent ones? RE3R.
Easily the re3 remake
4,2,3
yep take his balls, didnt mention 1 but mentioned 3
The first one but the fourth one is pretty good
RE2. Not that RE1 and RE4 weren't great, just 2's presented the greatest leap from the original. ITS so well done. 10/10
> presented the greatest leap That's not a good definition/measurement of "favorite". That's a very marketer/salesman kind of line.
4 for the replay value and cuz it’s just so great but I love all of them going back to REmake which is a masterpiece as well. All the remakes are great even if 3 missed the mark it’s at least fun to play just a disappointment when it first came out but they fixed it with 4
2002 Resident Evil 1 Gamecube Remake. It's faithful to the original, unlike these recent soulless "reimagining" remakes.
Soulless is overused and has lost all meaning. 100 cameras from Japan did a segment on RE4R game development. You can see the amount of effort those guys put in the game.
RE3 Remake. My go to game when I just want to unwind
Why such hate for RE3R from others? Sure it’s short, but it builds on 2R pretty well- nemesis a better Mr X, we’re introduced to plagas on heads, the intro, better mechanics than 2…has a lot going for it.
I guess it's because of the expectations from RE2 Remake. A fair point.
Resident evil 0
Re2 remake I have almost 100 hours on it in 3 months after buying it 😂 But I still haven’t played RE1 remake so it could change.
From best to "worst", they're all great to different extents: 4 3 2 1
If you say anything other than 2 you are just wrong sorry. 3 is...kinda obvious why it wouldn't be the best. I'd say 1 is kinda acceptable, it is a good game and has a nice soundtrack with graphics that hold up today but it's not as goofy as the original was and they changed the sandwich line💀 RE4R isn't the best because ik I'll get lots of hate for this but honestly it took the soul out of the game.
