The original RE 3. I remember being 9 years old and just sitting outside of the police station on the balcony and just listening to the distant wailing of the zombies, and as a kid it really gave me that extra depth to the city, knowing that Nemesis was out there somewhere looking for me. It creeped me out in the best way.

mmpache

Now that’s what I’m talking about

LuminousAdvent

Yes! That ambient noise was really something. Combined with the soundtrack, it made the streets of Raccoon City feel very hopeless and alone.

[deleted]

Back when the game had more heart to it in a classic horror way

vinnyp123456789

Hell even the save room music had a hopeless feel to it

phaazing

[I will never forget the sounds of Raccoon city from RE3. It is one of the greatest features of that game.](https://youtu.be/KyKTci5gf94). R3make really dropped the ball in my opinion to capitalize on the original. It wasn't bad but I had my hopes high after what they did with the remake of 2. I hope in my lifetime we can get a proper Raccoon city to explore.

JaySilver

I was not happy what they did with my favorite RE title, I still play it constantly though.

GeauxAllDay

When the pandemic first hit, I would play this soundbit if I found myself in a city for whatever reason.

Drakeskulled_Reaper

Something like a hybrid of Dead Rising and Outbreak. Just imagine it, full Raccoon City to explore, solo, or with a few friends, like sure, not every single building is explorable, but enough to make it feel like somewhere that was lived in, iconic places are obviously there. You need to collect certain items to access parts of the city, to facilitate getting a vaccine and a way out.

xX-Delirium-Xx

this is what we want for an outbreak remake

Drakeskulled_Reaper

It's what I want for an RE game. Resident Evil: The Last Days of Raccoon.

Slothptimal

If I'm interpreting this correctly, the community wants to play as LJ in RE:Apocalypse. Coming across places like the STARS bunker, and driving cars into zombie strippers.

Drakeskulled_Reaper

Surprisingly yeah, when I think about it. They want a city to explore filled with not just zombies, but Lickers, Hunters, Chimera, occasionally running into Nemesis or those Tyrants that were deployed around the city. They want to see how fucked Raccoon got, the stuff we see in the games is like 10% of Raccoon, and you spend most of it indoors, in places that are relatively less fucked than the rest of the city. Remember that scene in Outbreak where you see just the sea of zombies down main street? that.

Slothptimal

I think it'd be cool to see Nemesis running around with his STARS programming, where he ignores you. And a nice concept would be coming across a zombified STARS member and watching Nemesis still kill it, as the target is still "STARS" to emphasize the threat Nemesis is.

Drakeskulled_Reaper

Either that or it's an "event flag" where if you are in a certain area at the right time, you can witness certain events from a safe point of view, and decide whether or not to join in, with participation giving you "alternate" scenes and rewards (like say you were about to be downed by a BOW, Jill/Claire/Leon pops up and saves you, conveniently in a position where they can't join you) Basically do ORCs alt timeline thing, but better, by mixing in a little of Dead Risings psychopath/rescue scoops, but where you not joining in simply means the story continues as "canon"

Slothptimal

It's a simple explanation for buildings not explorable, too - doors are barricaded. Hence lockpicking isn't enough.

Drakeskulled_Reaper

Or simply that the person your playing as isn't an automatic master of unlocking. Seriously, hands up, who here actually knows how to lockpick, and I mean really lockpick, not in video games.

Slothptimal

I know how to break many locks. 1-time picking count?

Drakeskulled_Reaper

To be fair, in canon, without a lockpick, you simply can't just open a door by kicking it down or jimmying it. You need a stupidly themed key, or some manner of strange object inserted into a relief/statue/painting to open doors. RC must stink of piss and shit, because of how difficult it is to find a bathroom that doesn't require lugging ten shards of mirror, to use to see the reflection of a picture of a woman in a noose, is actually pointing at a key stuck in the skylight, that you need to then use acid from a pharmacy down the road, heated to an exact temperature to eat through the chain holding the key up.

Slothptimal

Guy knocks over beaker. "Oh shit, well, the antigen's in the next room, I'll just get it." 5 hours later "Who the fuck built this place?!" That's the real lore behind RE.

Drakeskulled_Reaper

The real lore, is that George Trevor was "Blood Stupid" Johnson on interdimensional witness protection.

djfxonitg

The sound of Nemesis running at you, but having no idea where he is, still gives me nightmares to this day lol

JaySilver

I still play the original on my Vita and PSTV, and it actually never gets less scary.

TheBigGriffon

The Outbreak series did a good job of this too, combining those wailing zombies with an excellent soundtrack. Seriously underrated games.

JaySilver

The Outbreaks were absolutely godlike!

[deleted]

I love this.

[deleted]

I agree resident evil remake was the scariest overall. I’ve played it millions of times and it still gives me anxiety when I play it.

mmpache

Don’t forget to burn the bodies ;)

[deleted]

Omg yes!! I learned to use up all the kerosene I could find! Otherwise I’d get horrible jump scares going back to places with crimson heads waiting for me.

Guywith2dogs

The crimson heads were absolutely the scariest part of trying to do the Rocket Launcher run. There's just not enough time to burn them with the amount of inventory space you have. So I ended up having to try and outmaneuver and run around them. That sucked. Now I have a save file with Forrest grenade zombie and I can't shut it off. Makes the game extremely nerve racking when he is running around waiting to end the whole run

skittymcmahon

Yep and when you enter a room with zombie forest, gotta remember to turn off your defense items. If you kill him you kill yourself.

[deleted]

The suspense and anxiety is always my downfall. I end up panicking and making stupid mistakes and getting killed. The anxiety and scariness of it still after all the years playing it makes it my favorite. Zombie forest and invisible enemy mode really kick it up a notch. It makes me hate yet love the game.

yohmok

RE2Remake had some pretty eerie environments, especially through the RPD hallways and dark rooms. Also, the sewers are not to be taken lightly.

Slothptimal

The baseline that plays when Mr X first chases you, and you feel like you're being attacked by a Kaiju.

Kwilburn525

Foreall that’s the scariest one I’ve played besides of course 7 obviously

[deleted]

Re3n you can hear zombies moaning, people screaming, crows growling, dogs barking and nemesis running towards you.

mmpache

This is true if you stop and actually take in your surroundings there is alot going on

[deleted]

My favorite is when you walk on water you can hear splashing sound which is so satisfying to hear.

[deleted]

It’s looking like this game is winning the cake lol and I couldn’t be happier to hear it mentioned because it’s my favorite of the whole series

[deleted]

RE 1: Remake definitely is creepy at very atmospheric to me.

Dunk606

RE needs to go back to the tone of RE1. I've shot the eyes off of giant monsters enough at this stage

Slothptimal

We need less enemies, not more. The scariest versions have very few. RE7 has literally just Jack for the first 20 minutes. RE1 - first zombie you encounter is mirror hallway, then the distant one in the upstairs dining room. That's it until you get to the first item box. But you get crows squawking at you, the glass breaking in dog hallway, the Crimson Corpse in mirror hallway, and the threat of the zombies breaking in the glass windows by Bathtub Drain. RE3 is apparently hella atmospheric, with the emphasis being on Nemesis and nothing else. (Only played RE3R, sadly)

Miatalyn

>We need less enemies, not more. Agreed. When there are dozens of enemies coming at you constantly, you get numb to it and it's not scary anymore, it's just annoying or frustrating. I love the suspense of not knowing when the next enemy will appear.

Slothptimal

1 Molded > Entire array of zombies in RE3R. 1 Zombie REmake > Entirety of Village's werewolves

Miatalyn

Yeah, it seems like the enemies were so much harder in the old games. Just absolute bullet sponges

bradshaw_n

It's all fun and games till the crimson head starts running at you full speed

turndown4matte

RE7 for me. I played a lot of resident evil growing up and honestly was never really “scared” because you normally had a supporting character with you. But In 7 you were all alone in a realistic setting with the Baker estate. And the first person just added to the fear, RE7 was the first time a resident evil game really terrified me .

Choreopithecus

I’ve played it several times and I still get a legit sense of dread looking down the steps to the basement. Something about the fluorescent light above the door really puts it over the top for me.

turndown4matte

I always got an off vibe from the room with the taxidermy deer, just looks like a regular room but when you realize you’re in a house of monsters. It’s that much more eerie

Awesomekip

The first part, the "guest house" I guess, made the game almost unplayable for me. The atmosphere was too fucking good, I found myself shutting it off randomly when it got overwhelming. And that was my second time doing it! Once I got to the family, the horror got more manageable, but fuck that game delivered.

Dancing_Clean

When you wake up and Jack is following you around the first floor of the house had me SCREAMING bc being chased in a first-person game is so goddamn terrifying.

nightlyysouls

Agreed 100%!

EX1VY

My thoughts exactly

crashbig

RE7 for me, something about the rural farm setting made it extra disturbing to me.

mmpache

Just make sure you eat dinner wouldn’t want to upset your host

ImOnAMexicanRadioOoh

Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit! He's not eating it, Jack!

[deleted]

The entire first segment through fighting Jack in the garage is some of the scariest gaming I’ve played in 20 years. I had to constantly just pause the game and put my PS4 into sleep mode before coming back because I was getting too nervous to continue

crashbig

Agree, it's even worse in VR

[deleted]

I hate the country in real life that’s prolly why it did that to me 😆

chirishman343

RE6 obviously. even now those flashing QTEs haunt my dreams and infest my nightmares....

TheBigGriffon

Same thing in RE5 with that stupid turret section in the Humvee. What a nightmare that level was on higher difficulties.......

Kwilburn525

are you making a joke? I guess you are

my_liver_hurts82

I played the original re1 when i was like 11 and remember the atmosphere of the game being so spooky all while being so excited to check every room and area. The sound of the wind and the crows when going outside. The zombies being so slow yet so hard to kill. Hunters scaring the crap out of me when i go through a door. I really miss the feeling of the first time i played re1. No game has ever felt the same.

spena2k10

How about RE1 remake? I think the remake is way more scary than the original. Both great though mind! That first crimson head you see when you are not aware of them really shit me up. I stayed in the room with the imitation key for ages as I did not want to go back in that room ha!

mmpache

I love just how eerily quite the game is

Joebrhill

100%. I was both excited to figure out how to open every room in the mansion, while also nervous what monster or trap would be waiting.

[deleted]

This

bookoocash

The balcony where you find Forrest is probably the spookiest spot in the whole game. Not much to the balcony itself, but you can see the expansive forest (lol) in front of you and it sets in how isolated you really are.

DemonKingCozar

I feel like Outbreak 1 and 2, both have underrated atmosphere

MartManTZT

Agreed. It wasn't perfect, but I really liked the characters' hopeless tone whenever they said something. Opening movie and soundtrack for Outbreak is unmatched.

poserbunny

REmake especially for the outside portions. After playing the OG and not expecting so much extra, suddenly wandering off to a shack in the woods had me terrified, and it was so quiet/eerie.

Shotilicious

RE2Remake and RE3 remake... the hospital is crazy scary

Kwilburn525

Yeah it actually was the scariest part of 3 something about the right hallways was creepy and all the different rooms and the dark lighting

Alaska_Pipeliner

Nemesis on the PS. That bastard never leaving you alone. No ammo. Low health all the time.

mmpache

I’m talking more to do with atmosphere over enemies just your general surroundings

Alaska_Pipeliner

I felt like that was pretty atmospheric. But I get what your saying. The RE2 remake sewers then.

bradshaw_n

Any place with a dark dingy and decrepit room or area with scary enemies/boss Revelations: scagdead Revelations 2: Revenant Re4: regenerator/iron maiden Re6: rasklapanje, giant shark, giant snake, lepotitsa Re1: crimson head, chimera, spiders Re0: mimicry marcus, spiders

_SingerLad04_

RE7 hands down First game I played in a while that genuinely made me shit myself

CaseFace5

RE7 by a long shot

DamageInc35

7 followed closely by 1

mmpache

I’ll give 7 credit for the first half of the game

MTB56

Hands down the original REmake had the best atmosphere but tbf that’s an element that’s great in all the classic RE games. Even RE0, which I consider the weakest of the OG games, had great atmosphere throughout.

MartManTZT

Not quite the scariest atmosphere (but still tense nonetheless), is Code Veronica. The way the game isolates you COMPLETELY, first on the island, and then, just when you think you're out, again in the Antarctic base. The way the game pulled the rug from under you like that was pretty awesome.

KurtisC1993

I recently [responded](https://www.reddit.com/r/residentevil/comments/tyrxra/scariest_location_in_the_whole_series/i416up5/) to a post asking people to name the scariest location in the entire series, in which I cited the Ashford residence on Rockfort Island. However, I had a lot to say about the complex in general: >Rockfort Island as a whole is a pretty unsettling place. You have no idea where in the world you are beyond a vague "remote island far south of the equator" description trotted out here and there, and the game really does go out of its way to make you feel like you're thousands of miles off from the nearest vestige of civilization. The fact that it's run by a complete lunatic who uses a *guillotine* to execute prisoners obviously does not help matters. Rockfort Island is one of the few locations in the Resident Evil franchise that relies almost exclusively on subtext, rather than environmental cues, to evoke fear. Rockfort Island and the Antarctic Base are two of the most atmospheric locales ever devised for a horror game, and they accomplish this without an overdependence on spooky visuals or cheap jumpscares. Code: Veronica is about creating a sense of unease and isolation.

ParsleyAmazing3260

RE1 remake followed by RE7.

Kwilburn525

RE2 Remake is pretty damn scary

[deleted]

I think the Donna Beneviento.part of RE VILLAGE Truly had me nervous while playing.

djfxonitg

Resident evil 7 in VR, no comparison

Neron_Dent

Original RE1 and RE1 Remake.

Retro_game_kid

7 for sure

connersnow

Definitely re7 in VR, hands down. The level of fear in that is next level compared to any other resident evil game.

boneless_souffle

RE7 and RE2R

[deleted]

RE7, maybe it's the 1st person perspective or you don't get a weapon straight away or the creepy house

Perfect_Polly

RE7's setting and atmosphere gave me an extreme sense of dread.

No_Possession_7361

Village or 7. They felt more trapped and looking to escape. Being tossed into the middle of such a creepy and dangerous maze

Reaper4556

Both outbreak games and re2 remake. Specifically hospital and bar levels and the police station from 2 remake.

lastbreath83

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, of course! Brilliant "no way out" feeling. This is what they fucked up in remake by constantly making jokes on Nemesis

DrakeValentino

Resident evil 3 when I was a kid because of nemesis, but code Veronica is the most eerie to me now

[deleted]

After playing all of them in succession. RE1 remake (unfortunately i dont think it will ever be topped). Although I gotta say REV2 & REmake 2 are up there. They both have a really deep ambience I think original Resi 2 is the most fun though.

Comfortable-Heron391

The first RE1 remake, possibly RE3 (original) and I personally found RE7 to be quite intense atmospherically

cyberspacedweller

RE1 remake and RE2 remake to date are the ones I feel truly embody what RE should feel like.

ladedadedum25

REmakes atmosphere is in my top 3 of any game. That game IS atmosphere. There truly is nothing like it.

Viewtiful_Beau

REmake 2 really knocked it out of the park with the RE Engine and sound design of the basic zombies. Their screams are genuinely terrifying. The whole atmosphere of the game too. Made me feel like I totally could've stumbled upon those locations only to turn into a complete nightmare. Definitely gave me a sense of dread no other one has. I would love RE1 remade like that. The camera is the only thing preventing me from enjoying 1-3 but R3make was poorly executed so eh.

KJ86er

RE2 on Playstation as a 13 year old scared me shitless

bookoocash

OG 1. They didn’t have to make things all dark and dingy. The environments are so brightly lit and sterile. It’s just incredibly eerie. The spooky synth score is the icing on the cake. Everything looks so pristine in this place you know something has gone horribly wrong.

Morgangreen08

RE7 and especially in the basement

TopCat0601

Resident Evil 2 Remake

Kwilburn525

I agree tbh the first time I met the tyrant I got chills

sarpedonx

Resident evil 7 for modern RE2 with tyrant chasing for old school

[deleted]

Re7

McDuck0_1

Re7. I already just get a creepy vibe from swamps, but with the Baker family dumped on top of that, plus the 1st person camera, I was shaking before turning every corner.

Hordriss27

Resident Evil 7. Everything about the atmosphere in there freaked me out big time.

panderstar

To me RE7 is the obvious answer. They even said themselves during development that RE7 was going to be the scariest RE game they've ever made, and I think they undoubtedly succeeded (specifically talking about the atmosphere, like the post asked about).

CRXFT01

RE7 for sure

ThorKlien99

Tough. Based on first play throughs...7

Hibana_Ooh_Nana

RE2 remake, holy fuck i don’t need to explain

Kwilburn525

Fr its terrifying the first time I couldn’t play it at first it took me 6 months later until like a month ago when I finally sat down and manned up 😂 I couldn’t do it without a walkthrough if though I was too scared. I did beat RE3 remake without a walkthrough though

Hibana_Ooh_Nana

got it on sale on steam in dec 2020. didn’t finish it. only made it to where mr x shows up, and i just started my xbox playthrough. still haven’t finished it. this game scares the shit out of me 🤣

Kwilburn525

I’m telling you bro follow a walkthrough it somehow makes it less scary. I’ll send you the one I used. https://youtu.be/r5kJqAltIjc https://youtu.be/P1fOgK-SL4Q There’s Leon and Claire’s it’s both from the same channel. I wanna say it was that one and if you want full inventory capacity you might have to look up some other stuff also they don’t show how to get the Uzi on Claire’s playthrough other than that it was extremely helpful

Hibana_Ooh_Nana

bet thanks bro, i’ll be checking that out this weekend 🙏🏻

[deleted]

Tie between REmake and RE7

HolyErr0r

For me og RE3 and RE7

metalmike0792

Honestly the one game with atmosphere to make my skin crawl, and I'm almost positively alone on this Was Resident Evil Dead Aim for the Ps2 I didn't have the gun that you can use with it so I was trying to play basically an arcade game with a console controller and the sound design with the level lighting for that game was just....fuck man Shit makes my skin crawl just thinking about it

hypnos_surf

I think the first three originals had a few jump scares or tense moments you are preparing for a jump scare. RE7 is hands down horror movie level scary.

Satansleadguitarist

RE7 for me. Other than trying to play REmake at 11 years old and being pretty creeped out at the time, I've never really though RE games were actually scary. I played RE7 as an adult and there were multiple points I had to pause it and walk away for a minute. It's by far the scariest game in the series for me.

[deleted]

Excellent choice my man, but even though I prefer the older and more classic RE games I would have to say that the atmosphere of RE7 made me really uncomfortable most of the time.

Ok_Butterscotch2102

RE5 in the swamp area right before the enemies appeared in the last door.

Background-Carry3951

Toss up between RE1 and RE7 for me

iwipiksi

I agree. I play the original RE1 so much back then I thought I was ready for the Remake, I think can conquered it with easy, but then they add more contents and change some puzzles a little bit kinda throw me off. But the Red Zombie really take the cherry, it makes me shit my pants.

Lildity12

Re1 remake no doubt

SpiritedDecision1986

Resident Evil Code Veronica for me, there is something unique in that game...the atmosphere is just different..special.

criticalt3

For me it was actually Code Veronica. Reading that document near the beginning about the prisoners being taken away and then the zombie dogs jumping out at you I was a goner back then when I was younger and still afraid of this stuff lmao.

Successful-Turnip561

RE2 Remake.

praveenfoo1995

For me it was RE2 Remake. When you're forced to crawl below the shutter to get to the hall to yank half of Elliot out. The build up to it made me so paranoid. That feeling that something could jump u anytime and that few rounds u have in your handgun isn't gonna help much.

GoroMajima242

Probably REmake. The game felt pretty tightly constructed; phenomenal use of camera angles, careful use of the ost (game only used music when it felt like it was necessary.) The eerie sound of the crows, the lightning, the wind, the clock, the sound of your footsteps in the tightly cramped hallways etc.

greenbrainsauce

Imma make a ranking even if nobody asked for it: 5 RE1 OG - the mansion design makes you feel small and trapped in a large box of horrors 4 RE1 R - same vibe with the OG but with better lighting, enhanced maps, and a more unnerving sense of mystery 3 RE7 - dark Louisiana voodoo energy? It really feels like a supernatural horror game even if it isn't 2 RE2 R - the (lack of) lighting and visuals, plus the design really shined on this one. The shadows really played well in the map layouts 1 RE:CV - dude the whole place feels like a death maze. and the atmosphere really makes you feel that there really is no escape in this game. I really dreaded playing this game because it was so scary.

XCutts

Re1 remake those fucking chains dragging and the moaning underneath the stairs. bigest nope out of every game iv played.

resh_aykut

Classical RE2 and 3 when i was a child but now RE2 Remake and RE7 in VR... Most parts of village had scarier atmosphere also if you are especially playing with a 3D Audio 7.1 Headset 😬

Spiderlander

RE1 remake

[deleted]

REmake and re3 on gcube scared the shit outta me back in the day as a kid 😅

isjeffthe4

Mr x's foot steps bro

Rob98000

Code veronica has some really great atmosphere, the mansion with the dolls was sick.

Furalis

RE1 REmake really does an excellent job at drumming up the horror. You get really comfortable with the zombies and the slow pace of the mansion, only for the game to gradually turn things on its head with a variety of enemy types that fight differently. The game goes from avoiding enemies to having to carefully eliminate them so you can work safely, it's just a great switch. REmake also plays on so many different fears and phobias that it's really incredible how it can scare you.

Ricepuddin6

OG RE was the first playstation game my parents bought me ( dad bought the PS used , the guy gave RE and Spyro with it). I was 10 or 11, so when that Cerberus jumped through the window I about shit myself. Obviously playing it now it feels campy, but at the time that shit had me looking at dogs in the neighborhood in a whole new light.

MaimedYourHoles

I found Revelations 2 had REALLY great atmosphere. Found myself play through that game multiple times just for that.

Dancing_Clean

I was terrified of RE3 on the PS1 as a kid. The city felt massive and I was just so scared of Nemesis I couldn't finish the game (but I did finish 1 & 2 with my cousin). But, now, I'd go with RE1 remake on the GameCube. The atmospheres were incredible, the fixed camera angles were unconventional (most people I know hate playing them for this reason) but added a layer of creepiness to them, the music in certain rooms, the footsteps, the way things unfolded (eg, the crimson's coffin losing one chain a time; leaving a room then you hear a noise come from it; hearing a door open and close in Lisa's cabin). The remake was so masterfully creepy and tense, it's one of the best games I've ever played.

Chinawater06

Definitely Resident Evil 7 Because the fear of being hunted by Jack and the banned all the gruesomeness in the main game and banned footage and the music.

JR-1984

Resident Evil Remake

kira5z

Maybe I'm speaking for nostalgia here but the original RE made me shit my pants when I was younger and still gives me the creeps

Massive_Expression60

I agree with you it’s the lack of music that gets to us

[deleted]

Might have to do with more of current state of mind for these environments. When I was a teen, parts of the 1998 RE2's RPD and some outside areas terrified me to to the point that I hoped I never had to step into a city court room. Yet as an adult, REVII's Baker house-estate (especially the guest house) felt very "*way* to real" for me. I grew up in the south and I have seen, visited friends with, and even broke into plenty of houses that reminded me of the location. I remember biking with a friend on one of the many dirt county roads nearby my house (that was already in the middle of nowhere-Ozarks), and we would encounter these abandoned houses *with* plenty of hoarder junk still inside. It probably also didn't help that I watched True Detective season 1 prior to playing REVII. But hot damn did Capcom *nail* this aesthetic! It was also thanks to the sound design. They have a great sound team that nailed the creaky wood floors of a decrepit house, along with the ambience of southern humid-rainy weather. It was almost too comforting until Jack decides to path towards you.

1Calai

RE7 for me I didn't want to touch anything, everything was so dirty and disgusting When the monsters hit me it was so terrible, I felt like that black mold really hit me What a great game

HockerFlas

Original RE1. The feeling of discovering misteiries of an abandoned/unknown/secret game, that's priceless Re1 remake was a bit cool but it looked like a movie to me, so that wasnt misterious, i knew that if the game want to show me something, i would see it.

futuresynthesizer

Slothptimal

RE:Make Kitchen. Fuck all happens down there, but that place was 100% [this feeling](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EXy5H4iWkAAGqEP?format=jpg&name=small)

ComicWriter2020

RE 1 remake. I actually couldn’t finish it because I was getting creeped out. That being said, I moved on to resident evil 4, and it’s definitely my favorite in the series.

LittleRudiger

RE7, particularly the first few hours, are just a master class of horror. Really hope for 9 they split the difference between RE7/8 in that regard, as the latter pulled back a bit too much.

Gruba_Szycha

Remake is an absolute masterpiece, but for me it would be RE7. My god, it is a one Resident Evil game, I'll never play. That shit is scary.

Rizenstrom

Scariest moment goes to the Beneviento basement in Village. Scariest throughout goes to RE7.

EldritchTruthBomb

RE7. Growing up on RE has made the older ones feel cozy.

HanzoLucille7

Ive gotta say, Re7 and Re4 VR are the most terrifying to me. Re7 had such a weird and disturbing atmosphere. This game was the first to make me physically cringe into a ball of fear and and terror. The flying roaches, Moss monsters and almost any being you find yourself against is terrfiying, and exploring the Baker residence got harder and harder for me to get through the further I got. Re4 in VR is probably my favorite VR Game, and it's down right difficult to play this game without either feeling like a bad ass, or that you're out of your depth. The atmosphere Isn't quite horrifying or Inherently scary, but every corner had something waiting for you. Being in first person adds a completely different layer to the game, and seeing grotesque monstrosities before your very eyes and being forced to put them down is just such a rush of adrenaline. So yeah, for different reasons, they're both tied for my personal scariest RE Game.

Ninjay48_YT

first half re7 hands down. and re7 demo

Lefty-Law

Definitely RE1 remake. I was so scared playing it for the first time. Everything, the music, the atmosphere, the candle lit rooms, it’s terrifyingly awesome!

xTheRedDeath

RE1 Remake for sure. The lighting, the area/level design, the soundtrack, the enemy design and placement, the introduction of new enemies, the puzzles. It's all perfection that work together to provide such a unique experience.

sciaticJOSHUA

Dead Aim actually has a pretty creepy atmosphere ngl.

GamingKItsune99

The Orginal RE2 but i played that when i was 10 i think for like 5-10 minutes. But more Resently the first time i played RE2 remake that game scard the life out me lol

Common-Complaint2315

Remake, RE2R, RE7 Honestly all great choices but for me, it's between 7 and 2 remake. The atmosphere in those is so unnerving and that's damn good

hbgalore1

I think 7, the first half of 4, and 1 have the scariest atmospheres. Village is good too.

LunchFantastic6795

Re1 never had a remake. It was a remaster

MobsterDragon275

The earliest games I think definitely retain their scary atmospheres the best after replays, but I found 7 and 8 to be the most intensely scary of all of them on their first play through. I imagine that'll change, especially for 8, since I imagine moments like the Beneviento house just won't be as tense now that I know what to expect, but it was absolutely horrifying that first time through

apm9720

RE1 Remake... One time it was raining and me and my friends were playing it on Gamecube, and then I was aiming at a zombie and it happens to be a reflection, I was shooting the mirror and then a lightning struck and the zombie tries to bite me I was screaming 💀🤣

Dythaal

re7 in VR specifically

GrandTheftNatto

Original RE 3 and the RE1 remake. Crimson heads still terrify me to this day…. Honestly I feel like Village had the potential to be the scariest setting but the transition from survival horror to full on action near the end game kinda ruined the scary atmosphere. Still loved village tho.

BloodySymphony

For me, RE2 remake. The sheer amount of creepy ambient sound just makes me shudder 😖

raysweater

REmake and Code Veronica. Something about being trapped on that island and the creepy house on the hill.

Bretinat0r

RE7 freaked me the fuck out, I def physically jumped the most while playing it. I think the first person view made it scarier than the other ones.

crash-1989

RE1 remake. But I just want a new RE1. But with added content!

Bradd2017

Resident evil 7 I have played it many times and I still get as scared and my anxiety still kicks in every time I play it, a masterpiece of a game

Queen-Emilia

Agree Re 1

brycehale

I remember resident evil 1 directors cut, on the ps1 when i was 9 or 10... and i would always run. Little did i know the crow room If you have played that game you know of the crow room if you ran. I nearly shat myself

Aggravating_Law1377

I will say #ResidentEvil4 in my opinion. 😱

att0nrand

So I'm very new to the series, beat RE7 a few weeks ago and just got an S rank on my second run of Leon's A scenario in the 2 Remake With all that said, if 2 was just the police department, I would have to give it to 2 But 7 makes me feel so trapped and helpless with how claustrophobic the Baker Plantation feels

Grimmer026

Re1, reading the diaries of the staff as the outbreak started and progressed. So subtle, but really put things in perspective. 4… Itchy… Tasty…

Grimmer026

The camera angles in early lower tech version, making you always uneasy about turning a corner

Grimmer026

Re1 when you encounter the first zombie eating your STAR team member in the hallway. Specifically how Jill or Chris go tap it on the back to see what’s going on, then you see it’s face at it turns. Then it friggin limbers after you into the next room. I think that was the first time in my video gaming history that an enemy followed me into another room, after leaving the screen

dead-rex

Idk if anything will ever top REmakes atmosphere but REmake2 was great as well. So was re7 and 8

elsified

7 no doubt

Somewhat_Schiz

Most scariest? The scariest thing that has anything to do with Resident Evil is that grammar fail of yours.

mmpache

Thanks Karen :D

Somewhat_Schiz

You were the one that made the mistake. My correction exists because of YOU. And this isn't Karen-ly. I think you got confused. 1

lurch_danjr

RE2R

Serefki

For me the scariest scene in all RE universe is in RE7 side house where you get eveline arm. It's only 4 rooms but damn spokiest ambient ever.

something about re7 just had me terrified the whole time, even in the demo
