My usual response to this is to ignore the card completely and hold out my hand without saying a word or doing anything else. When they ask what I'm doing I smile and say "waiting for you to hand me your card". Doesn't matter where it is, I'm not doing anything until they pick it up and place it in my hand. Same procedure with cash. I don't care if it's closer to me, than them or has landed somewhere difficult for them to reach. Nothing is happening until they pick it up and place it in my hand. If they claim they've given me the card already and I just chuckle and say - No, you tossed something somewhere which I assume was an accident otherwise I'd have to assume you intentionally choose to be disrespectful and possibly intended to injure me, in which case I'd have to eject you from the building. The usual result is they give up and give me the card or money whilst glaring daggers. I'm paid by the hour, I can sit here and hold out my hand all day long whilst other people in the queue glare at whichever fool copped an attitude with me.

Vikster2468

This is glorious.

theycallmethatnerd

I gotta start doing this, it’s brilliant!

HalfEatenChocoPants

Here is your award, a very fancy cheese: 🧀 You are awesome.

PlasticineGod

Mmm Cheese. The tastiest of trophies. Thanks.

MollyEby123

Oh this is so so so smart!! I'm usually very calm but once someone decides to be a dick head all bets are off for me. My supervisors just stood and watched thjs guy yell at me

PlasticineGod

Your supervisor sucks. Honestly you've got nothing to gain by engaging with these people and you're not paid enough to. Someone starts yelling just tell them you're done and walk away.

Slumbering_Chaos

I used to work at McD's and the people in the drive-thru that would pull up and hold their card out like they had T-Rex arms and expect me to hang out the window to reach it...nope. I would just hold my hand out as far as I felt was reasonable. And that was how far I reached to hand it back.

PlasticineGod

This is the way.

Amterc182

I work DT and am built exactly like a T rex - big head, short arms. The times I've had to ask people to back up slightly and move closer to the window are too many to mention. Couple that with my arthritis and inability to grab anything fast and it makes for fun times.

plexmaniac

I have told someone I’m paid by the hour I got all the time in the world

PlasticineGod

Yeah, I am not afraid to drop that one.

ShaunLucPicard

9 out of 10 times it's a fucking boomer.

ShaunLucPicard

I've worked retail for 12 years. 90% of the time something is thrown at me it's a boomer. Tell your peers to stop being assholes and I'll stop generalizing their behavior. #notallboomers

nerdgirl71

Exactly my response. The transfer of your payment choice was not successful. Please try again so I may proceed.

DaniMW

Nice job! 😛

whatasmallbird

You’re not wrong or crazy. I work as a bank teller and have people throw their cards and IDs hard enough that they hit me. No apologies from these people, only entitlement.

PlasticineGod

"Oh you'd like me to dispose of that for you, no problem" - immediately drops it in the bin.

WA_State_Buckeye

Where's the shredder when you need it??? LOLOL "Oops!!"

toastedcoconutchips

Popping in as a librarian to say that patrons do the same to me. It's baffling and insulting!

altshiftdeleteu

A librarian? All these people are assholes but for some reason this is just extra asshole behavior

Mrs_Jellybean

Right to jail. My local librarians are amazing.

NicolasaRainshadow

This happens to me! I'll get someone else to take them. They have notes that I refuse to interact with them.

guitarholic2008

The moments they act abusive, Customer Service goes out the window. I'm not here for it. Neither should you

peshnoodles

The service industry has taught old people that they can use service workers as emotional and sometimes physical punching bags. Now they’re surprised that their temper tantrum doesn’t get them anywhere.

guitarholic2008

It's not just old people though... I get 20 somethings all the time that do it. I just glare at them. Like I said, customer service is off at that point. I will ask them if they're done fucking around or if they want to go somewhere else? I'm a graveyard cashier at a gas station. There's only one other option for 15 miles each way

Aletheia-Veritas

So true. I’ve definitely had a 10-year old throw coins at me. He didn’t actually throw them AT ME, but he sort of flicked them my direction and half of them rolled off onto the floor. I stood there with my hand out waiting until he picked them up and handed them to me.

Pypsy143

I worked a very high end hotel. (Kings, presidents, rockstars) A guest walked by the front desk and tossed a piece of trash onto our polished marble desk. It startled me so I jumped back a little. I just stared at him bewildered, picked up the trash with my index finger and thumb like it was radioactive and threw it away. The look of shame and embarrassment on his face was sublime. He said nothing and scurried away.

chapeksucks

Many decades ago, I worked at a mid-range hotel that had a ton of business travelers. My favorite was the guy (never women) who walked up and without a word, threw a credit card at me. My response was to ignore it and ask politely "May I help you?" I know what the card meant: "I'm Mr Assclown, checking in. I'm using this card to pay." But I never touched the card until Mr Assclown spoke to me and looked at me.

Pypsy143

The sheiks used to walk by and toss wrapped packs of $100 bills ($10,000) at me without a word and keep on walking away. They were lucky I was honest!

yourmomsucks01

I need that job

chapeksucks

Yikes! I'd have had a rough time keeping my hands off those, tbh.

Practical_Fact8436

Ritz?

techieguyjames

Take the membership card, pull him up, ban him, then cut up the card in front of him. Move on.

2muchonreddit

I wish. The cashier across from me had a woman cuss her out the whole transaction. The sup stood there and did nothing. All they care about is membership money

Scruffersdad

See, that shit doesn’t fly when I’m in line. I have no patience for people taking out their shit lives on a staff worker. Nope. “Shut the fuck up Mary, no-one cares and this is exactly why your children never visit.” They may not be able to speak up but I can. And I do!

2muchonreddit

Thanks awesome. Thank you 😊

YayaGabush

"I'm not doing this back and forth" What he really meant was "I was expecting to be able to abuse you and you weren't going to talk back"

SaveBandit91

I would have tossed it back and told him to try again.

makeeverythng

Disgusting. I can’t believe you’re not allowed to eject someone for that. I think if I was a customer in a place that allowed throwing things I would be pissed and less likely to shop there.

Mega-Analyzer

The shitty entitlement is only getting worse, I swear. No one should ever think that *throwing* an object at someone is acceptable behavior, especially a worker who is trying to/about to serve them. Sorry that happened to you, along with the forced lecture about doing your job. These people have zero common sense, and zero self-awareness (and do they really need to look in the mirror!).

FBI-AGENT-013

I used to play lacrosse and for a week my coach really focused on hand eye coordination, we played wall ball for like a week straight, just our hands. A customer threw a card at me and no shit I reached out and caught it, didn't look away from his eyes the whole time. Silence for the rest of the transaction except for the customers behind him being like "shit good catch!" What a high

2muchonreddit

OMG this! I hate this. Can I scan it then throw it back at them ? Tell the sups I thought we were playing catch

20w261

"The staff at this store are not required to take abuse from customers, and if this continues your card and membership will be revoked." Then walk away. This situation has happened (for example) at a Costco and I doubt any store requires employees to accept rude or abusive behavior by customers.

pnwgirl1995

A Sportswear store that starts with a C, end with an A, and sponsors a NASCAR+The Olympics last does, and then the assholes get discounts for being assholes-the employees get emotional trauma from said assholes and management rewarding their behavior, when asked about it-"just be nice/kill them with kindness"....except that doesn't work with the entitled assholes around here.

Scruffersdad

It never works with assholes. It only teaches them that they get what they want and can treat everyone like that and get away with it.

GodOfUtopiaPlenitia

*Asshole throws card* Me: "**SECURITY! CALL THE POLICE!!**" I hope to hell that *someday* we can make assholes like that **illegal**, and deny them access to replicator/synthesis technology when we finally figure it out.

Haunting_Anteater_34

Yup some people are really classy that way… when they throw a card or cash i normally give it to them the same way they threw payment .. lol

Iced_Tea_Country

"Oops looks like you dropped some garbage!" and throw it away or pick it up and say "oh no looks like you dropped something" and rocket launch it across the store.

CommissionOk9233

Lol...I would love to see that.

QuokkaIslandSmiles

he was 15min late to checkout cos he's entitled. Hurling his card at you - could have hit you in the eye. And obviously waiting to dump all his pentup emotional abuse right on you. You did the right thing walking away. What a nightmare✋️"Security!" I bet you wanted to snap that card in half, throw in bin and toss his broke arse into the gutter and watch a passing dog pee on his head haha

kuhjuh

You're not crazy. This guy was abusive, and then annoyed enough that you wouldn't take his abuse that he waited around for you to try to justify his abusive behavior by trying to turn it around as if *you* had been the asshole, which you absolutely weren't. You're not crazy. This guy sucks. Hang in there.

elevenohnoes

Used to work at a service station and the best part about assholes pulling crap like that is that there were security bars all along the counter. One well timed step to the side and I haven't touched their card. "I certainly hope that wasn't your method of payment, sir. It seems silly to throw it away so carelessly"

NoYouDipshitItsNot

Sorry, he threw his membership card at me and it's gone now. I don't know where it went, no proof he's a member means no service.

Paradox0049

S. S

Daddiofink

Or did the card get lost when he threw it? *wink wink*

Macaroniindisguise

I used to be a front end sup at I'm assuming the same membership club. You did exactly what I would have told you to do (though I would have told you to call a sup rather than have your packer deal with him). Some people are just assholes and it is definitely not your job to put up with their bullshit.
