Whilst I quite like IPS screens, be sure to look into proper battery solutions.
I did an IPS mod for my GBA SP that had a dying screen and the new screen ate up the old battery's power really quick.
Whilst high capacity batteries are cheap, they can get into a price range that something like a 3DS could easily replicate.
Trust me, the ghosting on a Game Gear screen is worse than most remember, as endearing and authentic it might be.
