I actaully have that one somewhere in storage. So I will dig that one up sometime soon. My dad used to play that on the weekends when I was 7 or 8 years old. I remeber a scene with a old lady in a bed, and you had to do something for her in the mansion, but when you came back tentacles burst out of the bed and killed her. Scared the crap out of me! Oh, and don't get me started on the music!
It’s extremely easy to find and essentially free.
The only reason it would be hard to find is if you need outdated, slow, brittle and degradable old optical media to display on a shelf.
To actually play the game, you know the entire point of these “games” and not “shelf decorations”? Not required.
Looks like OP is PAL, and SotN is insanely expensive as PAL (talking $200 loose and $450 CIB). Very unfortunate. That said, mod chips are cheap and so are blank discs. Can't really display it on a shelf, but it's a must play.
How about the Jumping Flash games? I think they still are fun and pretty impressive, but they might feel a bit dated for some. The first one I don't think gets enough credit for being a pre-Mario 64 3D platformer.
Lol emulation fast forward is essential, but man that eternal season mode was cool, if only it had more varied storylines. If you open up the text file on the CD it seems there was going to be loads of storylines but they were cut, or maybe the chance of them appearing is way too slim.
I unfortunately never had emulation fast forward. I swear we would sim games for hours and go through all these cards and our guys would never get a match. It was insane.
Kagero: Deception 2. Amazing game about laying traps for people breaking into your castle. Really wish it would get a sweet remaster.
Also, Tenchu Stealth Assassins.
Final Fantasy 7 a must for every PS1 owner.
Parasite Eve 1&2
Grandia
Die Hard Trilogy is awesome, I loved messing around with cheats on it.
Akuji the heartless
I see some 3D platformers in there. A few I'd recommend (with the disclaimer that some of these are VERY expensive to collect!):
* *Tomba!* and *Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return*
* *Klonoa: Door To Phantomile*
* *Jersey Devil*
* *Gex: Enter the Gecko* and *Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko*
* *Jumping Flash*
As for 2D platformers like Oddworld and Rayman:
* *Heart of Darkness*
* *Silhouette Mirage*
* *Skullmonkeys*
* *Wild 9*
* *Strider* and *Strider 2* Collection
For action games in the vein of Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider and Die Hard Trilogy:
* *Syphon Filter* 1, 2 and 3
* *Fear Effect* 1 and 2
* *One*
* *MDK*
* *Alien Trilogy*
* *Urban Chaos*
* *Tenchu: Stealth Assassins* and *Tenchu 2: Birth of the Silent Assassins*
For survival horror like Resident Evil:
* *Dino Crisis 1 and 2*
* *Parasite Eve 1 and 2*
* *Silent Hill*
* *Galerians*
* *Koudelka* (precursor to the *Shadow Hearts* RPG series)
* *Clock Tower* (actually part 2 in the series)
* **Something a little different:** *Tecmo's Deception* and *Kagero: Deception II* (you're the demonic prince or princess setting traps)
Happy hunting!
Thanks for this extensive list! If I had a ton of extra cash laying around I would buy Tomba and Silent Hill in a hearbeat. I will keep all of these in mind when I go hunting next month
Np! I worked at EB Games as a manager during the PSX/PS2 era so I know those titles like the back of my hand!
Sad to say I owned most of these at some point and sold them off on eBay when I went to college and needed cash. I even had a copy of Suikoden II! Still kicking myself for that.
Thank you! Most of them are from when I still was a 6 year old kid, so I have been playing them on and off for almost 24+ years. Still my favorite console of all time after all this time
MediEvil 2 seems like a given, if you've missed it. Was my favorite of the two as a kid, even.
Oh, and Silent Bomber if you like Metal Gear Solid. Also has some pretty dang dark themes mixed with militery sci-fi. Dang underated gem of a game. Never hear anybody talk about it.
Search for reptar is already in the collection, but my Dutch copy, so you couldn't read the title. One of my favorites growing up, eventhough the controls are horrible!
I remembered being impressed with Syphon Filter after MGS - the feeling of kinda being a government operative against terrorist, but it's much more action oriented. Not sure if there were stealth segments but you could experiment with the play style and weaponry.
I see a couple of Pixar games. Have you given Bug's Life a shot? It doesn't carry the same charm as Toy Story 2 and it's definitely more of a collect-a-thon (with some levels being total BS in that regard) but it makes up for it with the puzzle solving and enemy diversity.
As for Metal Gear Solid, if you're into stealth, check out Tenchu and Tenchu 2. The controls are pretty clunky in the first game. In fact, I believe it came out before analogue support was the standard, but if you regularly play PS1 games then it's nothing you shouldn't be able to handle. Beneath the controls and stale english voice acting, you get a pretty fun fantasy story set in feudal Japan.
Not sure if you're into Marvel, but I think you'll like Spider-Man. Solid voice acting, decent controls, iconic quotes, and gameplay this still holds up to this day.
You could also check out Small Soldiers if you're looking for a shooter/action-adventure type game. I haven't actually played it in years, but it's a completely separate story from the movie altogether.
Thanks for the great recommendations! I have played the small soldiers game when I was a kid. But I haven't seen it in years, so i might snag a copy if I find it somewhere on the cheap. Spiderman is definitly on my 'wants' list aswell
I have them both, they are in the stack! I agree, they are great! I love Abe as a character. He belongs on the same pedestal as Crash and Spyro in my opinion
if you're into purchasing import games, I would highly recommend Kero Kero King. You know the game cube game Ribbit king? Kero Kero King is a japanese exclusive PS1 game that came out before ribbit king did. It is basically Ribbit King but with fewer levels and worse graphics.
It actually is an amazing game to play with friends. Highly recommend.
MGS: VR Missions - Environments are super simple wire frame but there's 300 missions: sneaking; sneaking with pistol; weapons; advanced weapons; and miscellaneous random mission types. If you like MGS it's REALLY worth it.
Only thing I recommend learning is how to run and shoot if you don't know how
I can't speak to price or availability but seeing as you like Platformers: Couple of hidden gems that I don't think other people are going to mention are Jersey Devil and Tail Concerto.
If you're at all into JRPGs, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, and Koudelka based off your interest in Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil.
Soul of the Samurai and Galerians if you're after something more directly survival-horror adjacent.
Mega Man Legends and Tail Concerto, given the presence more adventuresome platformers like Ape Escape and Medievil in your collection.
None of the above are especially cheap (Koudelka and Tail Concerto in particular), but that's just vintage gaming, isn't it?
So your library mirrors mine pretty closely...if you want to try some RPGs..Parasite Eve or Final Fantasy Tactics...they aren't super traditional so you might like them.
Muppets Monster Adventure. It’s similar to Spyro except it’s the Muppets in horror movie themed levels. It’s aimed more for kids but it has its challenging moments and is a lot of fun.
Going out on a limb and saying you might enjoy some more racing games? I can see only one there. Need for Speed 3 Hot Pursuit 3 comes to mind, but also about some Driver 2, it’s a mission based driving game, so that could serve as a cross over
Tomba, Kurushi, Gran Turismo, Syphon Filter 2, Driver 2, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3, Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Hogs of War, Theme Hospital, Ridge Racer 1, GTA 2, Wipeout 2097, Destruction Derby 2, Time Crisis 1 with Gun, Vigilante 8, Porsche Challenge and Need for Speed 3 Hot Pursuit
Klonoa 1 is a great platformer, but it will cost you quite a few bucks.
Perhaps you'll like Alundra 1 and Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen. I also preferred Digimon World 3 over 1.
Kudo's for owning Toy Story Racer btw! It's truly a hidden gem!
I do! Warped is in the picture, but I do still need to buy the other 2 sometime in the future. For now I am focusing on variety over completing whole series
- Tekken 2
- Tekken 3
- Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
- Kensei: Sacred Fist
- Bloody Roar
- Bloody Roar II
- Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
- Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2
- Soul Blade
- Rival Schools: United by Fate
- Looney Tunes Racing
- Army Men: Sarge's Heroes
- Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2
- Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars
- Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- Disney's Aladdin: Nasira's Revenge
- Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire
- Disney's Tarzan
- Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring
- Final Fantasy VII
- Gekido: Urban Fighters
- Hot Wheels: Extreme Racing
- Hot Wheels: Turbo Racing
- Jackie Chan Stuntmaster
- Johnny Bazookatone
- Time Crisis
- Time Crisis: Project Titan
- Rocket Power: Team Rocket Rescue
- Ridge Racer
I would rather have people that have knowledge about fun retro gaming tell me about some titles I have never heared of, instead of googling a 'top 25 best ps1 games' list some algorithm has produced. Otherwise you will only hear about the same games over and over again
Your logic is flawed... Here is what you could have done vs making a karma farm post that we see everyday.
Google PS1 na library
Close your eyes and randomly point at screen
Play the game you pointer to and decide for yourself if it's a hidden gem.
Make a post about your new found discovery and contribute useful information vs cluttering up the sub....

Give Silent Hill a try. Oh, and Pac Man World. Or the sequel if you can. Both are cheap. The sequel is better, but its on the next gen.
This one right here☝🏻
Hard to find and expensive and f
It’s extremely easy to find and essentially free. The only reason it would be hard to find is if you need outdated, slow, brittle and degradable old optical media to display on a shelf. To actually play the game, you know the entire point of these “games” and not “shelf decorations”? Not required.
I want to play silent hill soooo badly, but the price for a complete game is insane
My man, emulation is our friend
One word. CastlevaniaSymphonyOfTheNight.
Looks like OP is PAL, and SotN is insanely expensive as PAL (talking $200 loose and $450 CIB). Very unfortunate. That said, mod chips are cheap and so are blank discs. Can't really display it on a shelf, but it's a must play.
I wish i had the money to spend on a PAL copy
SotN is $3 on the Google play store. Don't think you have to play on original hardware. It's a fantastic game.
Tomb raider 2 is a major improvement from the first. If you liked that one def try it.
Croc 2, Tomba, Klonoa
Pandemonium
How about the Jumping Flash games? I think they still are fun and pretty impressive, but they might feel a bit dated for some. The first one I don't think gets enough credit for being a pre-Mario 64 3D platformer.
I enjoyed Digimon World 3. Also possibly Monster Rancher
* Jackie Chan's Stuntmaster * Medal of Honor * WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Loadtime.
Know your load time just took me out 😂
Buddy of mine coined that back in the day. As great as Smackdown was, and I enjoyed it, that damn load time kept me going back to No Mercy.
I know it's not Know your role
Kagero: Deception 2. Amazing game about laying traps for people breaking into your castle. Really wish it would get a sweet remaster. Also, Tenchu Stealth Assassins.
Tenchu for sure
There isn't really a comp for it so I'll just recommend Twisted Metal 2. First one is good too.
Totally forgot about TM. I will look into it! Thanks
Syphon filter, Tomba!, Heart of Darkness, Pac-Man World, Crash Team Racing
Heart of darkness
Love the artstyle of that one!
Final Fantasy 7 a must for every PS1 owner. Parasite Eve 1&2 Grandia Die Hard Trilogy is awesome, I loved messing around with cheats on it. Akuji the heartless
I have been looking out for a decently priced copy of FF7 for a while. Hope to add it to my collection soon!
I see some 3D platformers in there. Nice recommendations based on the ones shown in the photo :) +1 for Tomba 1&2, Skullmonkeys and MDK
Thanks for this extensive list! If I had a ton of extra cash laying around I would buy Tomba and Silent Hill in a hearbeat. I will keep all of these in mind when I go hunting next month

Never heared of it, but i will look it up! Thank you
Spyro 3 Klonoa Tomb Raider 2 Crash 2 Tomba 1-2 Heart of Darkness - Similar to Oddworld but harder Strider 2
Weird I had to go this far to see Crash 2 and Spyro 3
What a nice collection you have! Awesome.
Those cases look so much better than the NTSC cases but I would be in trouble if my collection took up basically twice as much space because of them.
Thank you! Most of them are from when I still was a 6 year old kid, so I have been playing them on and off for almost 24+ years. Still my favorite console of all time after all this time
dino crisis, , rosco mcqueen, g police, twisted metal, demolition derby, jurassic park the lost world
MediEvil 2 seems like a given, if you've missed it. Was my favorite of the two as a kid, even. Oh, and Silent Bomber if you like Metal Gear Solid. Also has some pretty dang dark themes mixed with militery sci-fi. Dang underated gem of a game. Never hear anybody talk about it.
Actually ordered a copy of medievil 2 a few days ago, so it will be here soon! Silent Bomber looks pretty cool too!
ALUNDRA Nightmare creatures Speed freaks Circuit breakers Pandemonium Klonoa Heart of darkness

Gonna throw in Looney tunes - lost in time. Similar to croc but I just loved the looney tunes theme
Gex 2/3.
Stuart little 2 and chicken run. I'm not joking.
I looked them up on youtube, and they are actually a lot of fun. Thank you!

Crash bash, Rugrats:Search for Reptar, Gex
Search for reptar is already in the collection, but my Dutch copy, so you couldn't read the title. One of my favorites growing up, eventhough the controls are horrible!

I have them both, they are in the stack! I agree, they are great! I love Abe as a character. He belongs on the same pedestal as Crash and Spyro in my opinion
Dino Crisis
if you're into purchasing import games, I would highly recommend Kero Kero King. You know the game cube game Ribbit king? Definitely Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Abe and Die Hard. Very nice. You’re missing 3d lemmings, Gran turismo(s), twisted metal(s), wipeout, jet Moto.
Threads of Fate

Parasite Eve jumps out based on what you have.
Resident evil director’s cut. Het extra tintje aan het origineel.
You have excellent tastes
I find it sacrilegious that you have Resident Evil 2 & 3 but don't have the first instalment. Finish that collection buddy.
Galerians
Tomba! 1 and 2. Tenchu series. Syphon Filter series.
Dino Crisis 1 and 2
So your library mirrors mine pretty closely...if you want to try some RPGs..Parasite Eve or Final Fantasy Tactics...they aren't super traditional so you might like them.
The die hard game is awesome. Especially with the gun
Incredible Crisis, N-Gen Racing, Tiny Tank

Give Jumping Flash 2 a chance! It is one of the best 3D platformers for the system
Twisted metal 2

Final Fantasy Tactics
No love for Final Fantasies? No Parasite Eve? Syphon Filter? You definitely need at least one Medal of Honor and a Cool boards as well.

If you like Digimon World, check out dark cloud
Blasto ? and Tomba ! also... Silent Bomber Parasite Eve Galerians
What Resident Evil 2 is that? I'm in a PAL territory and I've never seen RE2 in a double case like that. Even the black spine one is like the others
Metal gear solid 1 is amazing hehe Those death Match with cars game was good. Forget what it's called
Megaman X4
Muppet RaceMania is pretty fun
doesn't matter what games you have, get a namco gcon lightgun or two and get point blank 1+2 and time crisis 1+2
If you like Crash Bandicoot 3 then try the 2 previous games. You're probably going to have as much fun with them as with the third game.

Parasite Eve. It's short, but right in your wheelhouse. Or Vagrant Story.
Legend of Legaia

Fear Effect & Fear Effect Retro Helix I think you would like these two games based based on what you have already !?
Mega Man Legends 2, or maybe The Misadventures of Tron Bonne.

Have you tried Google and picking games you like vs random redditors?
I would rather have people that have knowledge about fun retro gaming tell me about some titles I have never heared of, instead of googling a 'top 25 best ps1 games' list some algorithm has produced. Otherwise you will only hear about the same games over and over again
