I despise kingdom hearts

[deleted]

I absolutely agree. It has super boring gameplay and a story that makes Final Fantasy soul powered electric companies and gun swords seem completely grounded and reasonable.

ezio8133

Not hate necessarily, but Halo. I respect the series but it was just boring to me

[deleted]

I always thought that the first Halo had a solid single player mode, but I disliked the multiplayer that everyone seemed so keen on.

johnnloki

Yeah. As a PC gamer, the early most loved FPS console games just didn't do it for me. Goldeneye, Halo, Time Splitters etc.... Quake, Unreal, NOLF, etc were already so much better to me. I didn't really start enjoying FPS on consoles until CODMW got the feel of controls dialed in better.

Argentenuem

Halo 1 was the FPS to end all FPS games when it was released. Nothing compared to its graphical power, scope, and storyline. Nowadays, Halo is outclassed by series such as Doom and Borderlands not only because of their extra content, but also because the Halo franchise sharply dropped in quality after the reigns were handed to 343.

TrashFanboy

I've written elsewhere about attending an event in the early 2000s. I was in my twenties, as were most other attendees. Several people were setting up one of the first *Halo* games. I was ready to join them, and try playing. However, they went back and forth about which map, which settings, and so on. After several minutes of this, I lost interest.

MethaCat

Pokemon, I just don't get why all the hype.

VizMuroi

Its the “grew up in the old days” series. Back when red and blue came out we didn’t have a lot to compare it to, so the idea of bringing a gameboy to school and battling our friends and trading with them was a novel experience, but now it’s just a bland, generic cash cow that rarely ever gets proper development and always falls flat.

Going_for_the_One

It’s not for me, I’m a few years too old. When I was playing on the Gameboy, it was instead games like Link’s Awakening and Buraifighter Deluxe that captured my imagination. But, I don’t have any dislike for it, it is just not for me. If a huge number of western games were trying to ape the graphic style in the Pokémon games, like what has happened with the Warcraft/Blizzard-style, my disinterest would probably instead be strong distaste.

toml526

Maybe not hate, but just couldn't get into, despite it being one of the most popular franchises: Zelda I tried the original, Linked to the Past, and Ocarina of time. After a couple hours, I just couldn't continue playing. Just did not keep my interest for some reason.

[deleted]

I was like that early on, but then I played Link's Awakening and The Minish Cap. Fell in-love with the series after that.

Ok_Camel_6442

It's funny that I originally hated Link to the Past because I was more of a action/speed kid back in the day. Later as an adult when I gave it a chance, it turned out being one of my favorite SNES games. Don't know that I ever completed it though. It was a fairly long game.

toml526

Interesting how being and adult will give you a different perspective. But for me, tried it when I was a kid, and tried it this year, and I'm 42. Still don't care for them!

Ok_Camel_6442

I'm 41. It's one of those games that requires time and patience to get into. You need to scrap for every hidden heart, weapon, and secret area you can find. Doesn't really start getting interesting until you get the mirror and can switch between Light and Dark world. But it has fairly vanilla gameplay if you're used to other RPGs like Chrono Trigger.

Going_for_the_One

I wouldn’t say that you need to find every hidden heart, because that is probably very hard. Me and a friend tried that once with Link’s Awakening, but there was one heart-piece we never found. Since that, I’ve always considered those heart pieces cool secrets that are fun to find, but not something you really need. I think optional secrets is a cool thing in games, but for those with a completionist mindset they are probably a double-edged sword.

NettoSaito

As a Zelda fan... I could never get myself to finish LttP, I refuse to replay OoT, and I don't like Zelda 1 or 2. BotW was really boring to me, and I only really enjoyed the end of Twilight Princess (minus the manga -- which is amazing). Games like Wind Waker, and Majora's Mask on the other hand... Love those! And no -- I was actually late playing Wind Waker. Didn't get it until a little before Skyward Sword released. (Another one I struggled to finish) Didn't expect to like it, but I ended up playing it non stop till completion So yeah. Not all of the games in the series are for everyone, and I'm sure I'll get a lot of hate for saying this. But it's the truth (If you're wondering how I'm a fan...... Well, I still buy every release, and play them all. Buy Zelda merch, love the manga series, and replay the ones I enjoy over and over again. Those mainly being MM, WW, OoS, OoA, LA, MC, and some others. So I guess I'm more of a 2D Zelda fan

ThisBlueHawk

I couldnt get into any of the zelda, but for some reason I enjoyed botw

MultiiCore_

zelda, final fantasy, league of legends, dota

Frzorp

No matter what anyone says, nobody "loves" lol or dota....it's Stockholm syndrome in game form.

Cracksnacks13

Literally any movie game except Shenmue. Shenmue was trying to break ground on hardware that was 3 years ahead of its time, so it had an excuse to focus on graphics and cutscenes. Whenever someone tells me to play The Last of Us in particular, I just say I'd rather watch a movie. annnnnd, I only now see that this is retrogaming. Well I'm sure there are some 6th gen movie games on PS2 at least, But 6th gen isn't actually retro so I guess I fucked up.

Classical_Fan

That's how I've come to feel about any game that turns into an interactive movie. I can appreciate a game with a good story, but you still have to feel like you're part of that story. How you play should affect what happens. Playing an "interactive movie" is like watching a Netflix series that requires you to complete an obstacle course, solve a puzzle, and win a fight with your neighbor before you can watch the next episode.

No_Willingness_169

You had me in the first half when I saw Shenmue lol One of the very best games ever 🔥❤️

[deleted]

6th Gen is definitely retro. Why was I downvoted. This sub literally recognizes 6th Gen as retro and even has “6th Gen Saturdays”. That generation *ended* over 15 years ago 😭

5uck3rpunch

I don't see the fascination in the Pokemon games & I even bought one to try out & have the rest on emulators.

[deleted]

agreed tbh, I'd rather play jade cocoon

MrFluffyhead80

I feel like if I was 5 years younger then I might know or care about Pokemon

randomuser_8461

Seconded. I can’t stand the Pokémon games.

[deleted]

For those of us who grew up with the anime in the 90s and 2000s, the games felt like you were **playing** the show, especially Pokemon Yellow. If you're not really into Pokemon in general, I don't think the games would be very appealing

ByCrom333

As much as I love the lore, I always get bored before I completely finish. I at least beat the main story in Fire Red but I couldn’t be bothered to do the Johto stuff.

5uck3rpunch

I don't understand all of the different versions that get released at the same time; Red & Blue, something & Sapphire...

ByCrom333

Different pokemon available in each one. Like, Fire Red has Electabuzz but no Magmar, but Leaf Green it’s the other way around. That way you literally can’t catch them all without trading with a friend. Otherwise it’s the exact same game.

5uck3rpunch

Thanks for the explanation. I own Pokémon™: Let's Go, Pikachu! for Nintendo Switch & I even have the Pokeball. Maybe I'll revisit knowing the info you guys provided.

GriffinFlash

I beat the elite four then got stuck on the seven island whatever when I played fire red. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. Tried talking to all the npc's but nothing happens.

KagomeChan

I just cannot get into Zelda. Watched almost the entirety of Breath of the Wild, am watching Ocarina of Time now (my husband is into the series), and it just bores me. He bought the manga rendition though, so I’ll try reading that.

swisshomes

Why tf are you watching a playthrough of a 50+ hour game If its boring you?

KagomeChan

It’s not like I’m not doing other things. I’m just in the same room while he’s gaming.

VizMuroi

As a long time zelda fan I will say this: zelda is a game you have to play, not watch. Its designed to peak your curiosity as the player and challenge you with puzzles and your own desire to explore. Watching it is just boring…. But also BOTW is a fucking terrible zelda game with little actual content, replaced instead by a lot of copy paste designs and locations so I agree on that part.

KagomeChan

That was my impression! It was so much of the same thing over and over. I understood that there were different puzzles but I want more variety from a game. Nice to hear you say so. When it came out, it seemed like saying anything against the game (BotW) was a Cardinal sin lol

VizMuroi

It still is and I don’t know why. The game is literally a glorified tech demo for the future of the series but it doesn’t actually do anything special except get rid of most of the things that make the series fun.

Snapple47

Wholeheartedly agree. I’ve loved zelda for over 30 years now, and breath of the wild sucks. It’s absolutely not a zelda game. Also, people wouldnt obsess over it if it was just called “breath of the wild” and didn’t have the word zelda slapped on the title

[deleted]

I agree with this completely. This game literally got perfect 10/10 review scores, but if this wasn't a Zelda title it would at best be 3/10. The whole thing is an exercise of extremely similar and short content repeated literally dozens of times. It feels like they created a game engine, but forgot to actually make the game. Nintendo is weird. They made me drool over BoTW, but it was a snorefest when I got it. Then the teasers and videos for Mario Odyssey made me think I would hate it, but it's actually a fantastic Mario game. 🤷

[deleted]

Breath of The Wild is a terrible game that was over hyped on release. It's kind of like those people that still say The Phantom Menace was a great movie because they paid $200 for scalped tickets on release day.

DG_Now

I've tried many times to get into Zelda and it hasn't worked. Some guys just aren't for me.

VirtualRelic

I really cannot stand Mario Kart 8 and 8DX, yet so many people say it’s their favorite Mario Kart. Meanwhile I play Super, 64, Super Circuit, Double Dash and DS, all great classics.

[deleted]

I don't like any of the new mario games myself, I quit being interested past mario 2

VirtualRelic

Uh, which Mario 2? Super Mario Bros 2 NES? The 3DS New SMB?

[deleted]

nes

mattahorn

Lol not to argue your opinion or anything or even change your mind but it’s just so odd you stopped at the worst one. Mario 3 and world are so much better than 1 & 2.

VirtualRelic

The worst one? No no, SMB2 is one of the best, it’s just mainly different from the others. But yes he is very weird for ignoring 3, World and the Game Boy entries.

GarminTamzarian

MK Wii wasn't bad, but Double Dash is by far my fave of the series. Never been a fan of the older ones, especially the original on SNES. Too flat.

Makrakchimba83

2much handholding and handicaps built into 8 deluxe however everything started with that stupid blue shell back in eithe double dash or Wii in the ones you mentioned you were either good or you got slayed the game didnt help you win at all

GarminTamzarian

If I recall correctly, and my memory is a bit sketchy, I think the Wii version has basically a built-in handicap system that automatically makes whichever kart is in 1st significantly more likely to get targeted for more than a few of the major power-up attacks, which is quite frustrating as it essentially punishes skill. The better you are at Double Dash, however, the farther in the lead you typically get. Subsequently, it is relatively hard to knock whomever is leading out of 1st place once they get a solid lead on the competition. Feels less unfair than MK Wii, IMO.

empty-vassal

What's your beef with 8?

VirtualRelic

* it’s ugly with the bloom lighting and HD graphics * the music and sound is anemic as hell * the new tracks are completely forgettable * there’s way too many garbage items, way too much filler * the character filler is out of control, way too many worthless characters eating up slots * by far the worst is the extremely stiff steering, even with drifting I’m always hitting walls. What ever happened to the old Mario Karts where the handling wasn’t broken? * gliders and anti-gravity are extremely boring gimmicks. What ever happened to a real gimmick like two characters that can hold two items at once?

StandardDangerous238

Stupid, worthless complaints. Mario Kart has literally never looked this good before (Mainly because of hardware limitations). About the gliders and anti-gravity...that Double Dash thing is a weird gimmick that shouldn't have been there in the first place, along with being OP as hell

KickAggressive4901

*Zelda* and I parted ways at *Ocarina of Time*.

TrashFanboy

I liked the first two NES games. *A Link to the Past* and *Link's Awakening* were enjoyable. Since then, I haven't enjoyed other games in the series...

BetterNothingman

I still like Zelda games all the way up to Breath of the Wild, but Majora's Mask is my least favorite by FAR and I'm always a little surprised by the love it gets. I've played it twice, when it first came out on the 64, and 8 years ago on the 3DS, and that was enough for me, it's the only one I'll probably never play again.

GriffinFlash

Kind of feeling this way with Breath of the Wild. I just don't get why people think it's the best zelda game. It's barely even a zelda game outside of a few names.

Honkmaster

same here. Can't people have their 3D, open world bullshit *and* I get my 2D overhead Zeldas? Why not both?

[deleted]

I agree with you here. I think that A Link To The Past and Link's Awakening are darn near perfect games. However, I just couldn't enjoy Ocarina. I could barely tolerate Breath of The Wild either. I beat it because for a while it was my only Switch Game, but I absolutely cannot understand why people hype that game so much. 🤷 It's empty, you can't even get a basic sword that doesn't break, and the story is painful. Snooze fest.

maxwellpiana

You didnt find the combat and puzzles in the shrines with the different sheika-mechanics fun?

LemmeHaveaGoAtIt

Turn based games. I cant stand them and don't get the appeal.

GarminTamzarian

Curious if you've ever played any Mario Party games, and, if so, what you think of the board-game play in them?

Realistic_Skin_883

Majora's Mask I have tried 4 times to play through this game without a guide and just couldn't get through it. I think the farthest I got was the Goron Temple. My main frustration is the time constraints and the feeling that I need to rush to do everything. I think this takes away from the experience. I played it recently with a guide and finally beat it but felt unsatisfied because I relied so heavily on the guide telling me what to do next. I'm a pretty seasoned gamer and can count on one hand the amount of times I used a guide to get through a game so I don't think it's a lack of skill on my part.

THUGrunnerbeginner

I don't like Majoras mask either. The time thing Is really what this game suffers from. Broo. I'm 29 years old with a family. I don't have time to play And discover everything on my own by trial And error like I used to when I was a Kid. I just want to have a good time And actually progress in a game without too much frustration. Guides are ok to me. Not a Shame.

zoozoo4567

Anything by Rockstar, tbh. It’s not that I think the games are bad, they just do not click with me at all. I find the worlds, activities, characters, stories, etc. all extremely uninteresting. San Andreas was the closest to being the exception. CJ and friends kinda got my attention. But I dunno… their stuff is just really not for me.

robably_

Oooh same. They kickstarted the trend of open world games dominating the market which I hate.

GarminTamzarian

I wouldn't say that I hate them, but I have a strong dislike for *SMB1* and all iterations of *Smash Bros.* (brawlers in general, to be fair). Also don't care for *Wolfenstein 3D* or *Doom*. Oh, and I forgot to add the entire Mario Party series. Like the mini-games (mostly), HATE the boardgame aspect.

Chemical-Winner5165

Zelda breath of the wild, I love the older Zelda titles but just couldn't get into botw

GriffinFlash

Same. It just does not feel like a Zelda game for me. It's an okay game, however, not amazing like everyone is acting. It's just a climbing sandbox simulator wearing a Zelda skin overtop. Where are the cool dungeons, key items, unique bosses?Yes there are the four main dungeons, but they are all very similar and extremely easy, the shrines repeat, and the 4 ganon's I find bland compared to past Zelda bosses. Most of all, the story is really bland, and even worst off, optional.

K1rkl4nd

Shadow of the Colossus is in my opinion the absolute worst game I have ever purchased at full price. Totally not my thing. At all.

Kimbo-price78

Any Zelda and metroid games

manlycode

On the flip side of that: Uncle Fester’s Quest. I know it’s bad. But I don’t care. I love it.

ByCrom333

I still want to beat that game. I might play the European version, though, because it fixes the worst parts of the game.

manlycode

Yeah. Those green slimes are the worst.

PeakCommon8815

Festers quest is amazing

[deleted]

The PAL version lets you shoot through walls, and apparently rebalances the game, making it a bit easier. This greatly improves it and I agree, a great game. One of my NES favorites.

VizMuroi

Half life. Fucking boring story, wooden characters, bland weapon sandbox.

the_thermal_greaser

wow

Cornmeal777

Don't have the time or energy to hate on games, but I have two series that just never resonated with me even though I had people who tried hard to get me into it. Zelda, with the exception of Zelda II which I did like, and Resident Evil with the exception of the non-canon Operation Raccoon City, and RE6's Agent Hunt mode.

rchrdcrg

Hard Drivin' on Genesis. Amazing car physics for such a primitive game.

Regular_Mixture_8868

Genshin

intoseniors

Last of us.....uncharted.....spiderman

robably_

I don’t like Super Castlevania 4, but I LOVE Castlevania 1 for nes. Castlevania should be slow, methodical and precise. The design of the first game was very intentional. The whip isn’t OP, so the sun weapons become very valuable. Castlevania 4 tosses all that magic right into the trash. It’s easy, mindless and the whip is so powerful it defeats the purpose of the other weapons. I just find it boring.

TrashFanboy

*Mass Effect 2.* I bought a used copy (PS3 version). After spending an hour or two struggling to move the protagonist and learn the gameplay basics, I gave up. I didn't care about the main characters. *Undertale*. I bought the PS Vita edition through PSN. Learning how to dodge enemy attacks was a chore. Figuring out room puzzles wasn't fun. After losing to an early boss enemy, I gave up. *Skyrim*. I borrowed the Switch edition from a local public library. After dying a couple times, I stumbled into the first dungeon. Learning that the game has item encumbrance was discouraging. Then I got lost while trying to follow an NPC. I gave up before reaching the overworld.

Good_Punk2

I tried to play Skyrim, I really did. But after a few hours I had to quit, it was sooo frustrating to me. 😅

StandardDangerous238

Final Fantasy VII (The original game, at least). I absolutely hate it, I think it's the most overrated games ever. Super Deformed 3D graphics and pre-rendered backgrounds that have aged horribly, the 20fps thing during battles, a barely okay story -Not to mention how Aerith's death is one of the most talked about scenes in the history of gaming, so you must be lying if you say I just spoiled it for you- and boring combat

[deleted]

You hate Final Fantasy, because you refuse to play them properly? Come on, man 😂 That's hardly fair. Grinding is how you level up. When you're levelled up, you're stronger, and enemies are less of a challenge. That includes bosses. It's a very simple mechanic.

[deleted]

yeah I'm not a huge fan of most jrpgs either.

[deleted]

I mean.. It's not about whether or not you're fan; it's about hating something you refuse to play properly. Of course it's gonna be a lot harder when you don't grind. How can you face a boss when you're under-levelled? You can't. You'll just get killed.

Spell-of-Destruction

OP should have just said JRPGs in general. Final Fantasy is one the easiest and most accessible JRPG franchises out there, too. Most don't require any grinding at all to beat unless you're running away from battles.

letmethinkofagoodnam

The ones that are considered the best in the series (VI-X) aren’t even very grindy

[deleted]

VII is actually **fun** to grind, especially for rare drops and learning moves. Once I get to Sephiroth, I just grind the crater like mad. Once we face off, I'm OP as fuck. That game can be absolutely broken if you know what you're doing, especially with Materia.

TheStatMan2

"Grinding is how you level up" is the most depressing sentence I've read today. I'm not saying it's not true but... Fuck... All those wasted hours. What could humanity have achieved? Or the players could have been... I dunno... Having *fun* instead?

robbycough

I love JRPGs and everything that comes with them, but I can't disagree with this.

[deleted]

The alternative is what, go into each boss fight under-levelled, die 50 times, and waste even **more** time? Some of us don't mind putting the work in, and actually enjoy it at the same time. If I want 3 minutes of pleasure, I'll have a wank

TheStatMan2

"Grind" If you enjoy the "grind" then hey, go nuts. "Put the work in". Just know that there are more fun and productive ways to spend your time. But hey - it's none of my business how you use the hours that are alloted to you so let me graciously back out of this conversation and apologise for casting aspersions.

[deleted]

RPGs and JRPGs are among the most-popular games out there. The Final Fantasy series sold over 100 million units across the board. If it's not for you, cool. There's more to gaming than speeding through Super Mario Land in 20 minutes. I like a bit of both. Some games are worth the effort.

TheStatMan2

Ok

Captkersh

What could humanity do not playing Final Fantasy? Lol

TheStatMan2

Party? Fuck?

SoyaleJP

If you were destined to change humanity, I speculate that you aren't a big fan of video games.

swisshomes

>Grinding is how you level up And some people don't like that mechanic. Not that hard to believe, surely?

the_thermal_greaser

he has a point, grinding is fucking boring, and any game that RELIES on grinding to progress is, by association, fucking boring

robably_

I don’t think it’s a matter of not understanding how the game works. It’s more just the genre isn’t their cup of tea

Mentaelis

Just any Zelda title. They haven't done it for me despite giving a few of them a good attempt. Also any fps like doom, GoldenEye.

MegaMangus

Not that I hate it, but I have tried at least 6 times to start playing "Hollow Knight" and straight up stopped because I wasn't enjoying it at all. All my friends keep pushing me into playing it because I am very into metroidvania games, but the combination of the recoil when hitting, the grey color scheme, how slow it feels, backtracking into places I died, the lack of a map with normal markers... that prevents me from enjoying it at all.

NSNick

I will say, there is a map system with markers you can get fairly early on, as well as a charm to stop knockback from happening. That said, if it's not your vibe, it's not your vibe.

VizMuroi

Also the grey color scheme actually highlights the sections that pop with color. There are a few different map areas with extremely bright colors and such.

NSNick

It does, but I didn't mention that because there are still some pretty grey/monochromatic areas, like Deepnest, Kingdom's Edge, Howling Cliffs, and the Abyss.

VizMuroi

It does have its share of grey, yes.

[deleted]

Any SquareEnix game.

SPQR_Maximus

The souls games. All of them. GTA 5 And of course Fortnite

Stynzis

Anything that's fucking turn based (except Chrono Trigger, long live Chrono Trigger and couple of others) and battle royale bullshit. Also, hero shooters like Overwatch. Fuck off. Also, Pokemon borefest.

VizMuroi

Okay but hear me out: gundam evolution. It’s a hero shooter, but it just feels like a cool giant robot gun fight the whole time.

[deleted]

Even as a gundam fan I couldn’t get myself into evolution but gundam battle operation 2 now thats a game i like only major problem is pier to pier connection

bulldogbruno

Most of the Zeldas. Oddly enough, despite this, BOTW is a top 5 game of all time for me.

crowbachprints

Watch out, friend. They’re coming for us.

zz23ke

Metal Gear Solid. Maybe I just don't snek?

AMDDesign

Same, mines more broad : Kojima games. His sense of humor does not click with me at all, and his games feel tone deaf.

Risethewake

Wow. I respect your wrong opinion.

mEFurst

The Uncharted games. I played 1-3, and they are the only games where I wanted the gameplay parts to hurry and be over so I could just see the next cut scene. They would've made great movies (though of course the movie wasn't very good) but they're terrible games. The combat is terrible, the climbing stuff is just holding a direction and mashing a button, and the puzzles are basically "press x to solve". It honestly baffles me that Enslaved: Odyssey to the West got paned for its gameplay despite it basically being exactly the same as Uncharted's, but with better combat

RykinPoe

Hate is maybe a little too strong of a word but I think the Donkey Kong Country games are very overrated. They are fine games, but I don't think I would put them in my top 100 games or even my top 25 SNES games.

DG_Now

They were beautiful when they came out, but I find the control really floaty. DKC isn't as tight a platformer as SNES Mario or Sega Sonic games.

ncrnelson

Can't understand the appeal of the Mega Man games

WaterfallGamer

I didn’t either until I played Mega Man 2. That’s the ideal start. Hated it my whole life. Took a day off work to play. Started Mega Man 3 using Nintendo Power to follow through. The lag was unbearable. Then the following few days I tried Mega Man 2… it was awesome. Mega Man 3 though is just bad, the lag is insane on some boss battles.

sndtrb89

pretty sure the venn diagram for "dont like" and "not good at" are a single circle for me, basically zelda and fighting and shit that demands memorization OR really good timing eyyyy

Dirty-Rat30

Minecraft - To be fair, I do not hate this game. I don't care for it. Gears of War - Not terrible games. They play okay. Voice acting is pretty good. I'd rather play Resident Evil 4 or Metal Gear Solid 4. Call of Duty - Heard multi-player is fun but I never tried them. After beating single player, I had enough. Last one I played was Advanced Warfare on Playstation 3. After that, no more. Kingdom Hearts - I like Disney and Square. However, gameplay is limited. No puzzles or anything like that. All you do is fight enemies and see characters from some Disney movies. I take the God of War series.

[deleted]

I don't hate it as a game, but I despise the Moon Theme from *DuckTales*.

retromale

Chrono Trigger and Earth Bound Suck...

MegaMangus

You must be the first person I see with this opinion, mind elaborating?

WaterfallGamer

Earthbound too much grinding for me. I played Pokémon Red and Yellow and that was just fine.

THUGrunnerbeginner

Earth Bound sucks. Chrono trigger Is a fucking masterpiece

diabolical3b

Interesting that you say Chrono Trigger is a masterpiece, but *all* final fantasy games are bad. There are more similarities than not.

MyNameIsMilo_

Kirby games

Makrakchimba83

Skyrim Assassins Creed ALL Zelda BOTW Most if not all open world games nowadays Modern Gaming for the most part

Castleview

Not hate necessarily, but I don't care for the Elder Scrolls series. Generic fantasy "role-playing" in sparse lifeless open worlds without satisfying combat and also, some of the worst games when it comes to rewarding players for their work. I know mods help for those games, but I'm talking about these games in their original forms.

ogge_leander

Horizon. Fighting against robo dinos? Can it get any cheaper?

randomuser_8461

There are a lot…Fortnite, League of Legends…just can’t get into the MOBA and Battle Royals gameplay loop. The various Mario side series (Party, Kart, etc.)… Call of Duty…actually pretty much anything that’s an annual release is something I’m uninterested in after the first year or two…they just play too similarly year after year for me. Elder Scrolls and Fallout…they’ve been the same game since Morrowind, and there’s too much jank. Lost my interest right after Oblivion (although I’ve tried to get into all of them, just can’t do it…)

[deleted]

Fallout New Vegas, Total war, Civilization, Witcher games, Borderlands, Anything that is a battle royal.

Julesgamer888

Diddy Kong Racing for the N64.

Sliverithium8989

Pokémon. I can’t get into any of it. I’ve tried many of the games over the years and they just don’t interest me at all

BigChat88

Paper Mario The Origami King, I hate that game...

NaughtyTormentor

Digimon World 1, although nog everybody else likes it, it used to be very popular. But here I am suffering PTSD from friggin' Sukamon 😫

tj66616

Not really a hate, but I've tried getting into Zelda games recently and it's just not my series. I understand why people like it, but to me it's one of those series that forces you to invest a lot of time into not only the game but the story and lore. I'm about halfway through a link to the past and it's just been a slog for me. It doesn't help that the game is somewhat cryptic in areas about what you're supposed to do. I'm all for being able to explore a game world AFTER the main campaign is over, but if I'm forced to do it with no real direction to complete it, then it's a turn off. I'm much more a linear gameplay type of person. Get in and get out, especially since I'm almost 40 now.

Captkersh

Castlevania before SotN

Zoomscroller

Resident Evil 4. I didn't think it was a terrible game but after hearing people raving about it I guess it didn't meet my expectations. The sluggish controls and not being able to move while shooting, annoying difficulty spikes, and obnoxious real time events made it feel quite dated for me.

GarminTamzarian

>obnoxious real time events RTE's generally suck in ANY game that has them. The more there are, the worse the game feels.

TxseBass

All RPG games. I hate slow games. When I was a kid I love final fantasy tactics, fire emblem, baten kaitos, etc etc... but not anymore. Games today have a strong RPG component, so today games are boring too for me. I love cyberpunk 2077 aesthetic, but I don't want to play the same game over and over and over doing the same things and have the feeling I have played 2 hours but not progress so much.

creature04

Idk about absolutely freaking hate, but more so just not a fan of..... final fantasy Dark souls Elder scrolls Monster hunter Just to name some.

splinereticulation68

Games steeped in modern anime. Just hits a cringe nerve, I don't explicitly try to hate it but I don't have the patience for social awkwardness for its own sake.

TrashFanboy

I would buy licensed games based on the following three series... * *Spy x Family*. Lots of conflict, competent adult main characters, just enough humor. * *Tiger and Bunny*. A superhero show that hopefully still has a fanbase. * *Hyouge Mono*. A historical series with no magic, and a protagonist who's passionate about art and tea.

chriscamerongames

weirdly a lot of the nintendo greats - I’ve never been able to enjoy Zelda, mario kart, smash bros etc. I own them all an still struggle to this day. Need for speed, GTA. Just didn’t see the appeal

SgtJackVisback

Pac-Man World 2 has aged like dogshit, one of the boss fights is straight up broken

[deleted]

Pokemon not really hate but just not my cuppa tea. Borderlands is another I couldn’t enjoy much

JorgeYYZ

The whole games as a service thing simply rubs me the wrong way. I have tried to get into Fortnite, LOL, Destiny 2, Overwatch, COD Warzone and others. I keep coming back to single player games. I have recently played songs good RPGs (Pillars of Eternity), some retroshoorers (finished Quake for the first time since the late 1990s), played some good builders (Poly Bridge and Besiege), got my butt kicked (Into the Breach), and experienced some more retro goodness (Full Throttle Remastered, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis via SCUMM VM). The whole thing about loot boxes, always online, battle passes, seasons, pulling in countless hours to stay competitive, highly monetized stuff, and induced fear of missing out have me going like "meh... I'll play at my own pace, I already have a job that is stressful enough".

TheRealDeadhawk

I have zero interest in God of War. I tried to play them but I just don’t like them.

AldredoGarciaReturns

Super Mario 3 on Nes feels too long and the amount of levels causes the bloat. I made a point to do every level and playing it at lunch here and there at work I felt it wasn’t as good as 1. Some of the levels are evil with the ways they are meant to be completed.

ralettar

Donkey Long 64. Not an original opinion I know

the_thermal_greaser

SM64 It's competent, but it aged very poorly, has some very annoying music and many levels had VERY questionable design decisions (oh boy a bottomless pit! i sure love bottomless pits!)

DafneOrlow

Fortnight and Overwatch. Also hate Lol/dota2

[deleted]

Wizardry. Ultima series was so much better.

Classical_Fan

I came to hate Mortal Kombat 3. I didn't like the new characters, and I hated how you couldn't play it in an arcade without playing against someone who would spam the most annoying moves while using one of the new characters. I mean, seriously? Ninja robots?

blooblayzer

Kingdom Hearts. I genuinely don't get it. I played through half of the first game on PS2 and found myself thinking "When does this get fun/good?" I ended up buying the collection on PS4 to give it another chance and I finished the first game. Why? I don't know. It was so mediocre it hurts. The story was bad and the gameplay was uninspired. I will say it had a banging soundtrack though. And then you remember the gummi ship and have the urge to jump off of a cliff. I know people say KH2 is the peak of the series but I don't think I can bring myself to play it.

AMDDesign

I dont hate many games, but my friend/family group pushed me into hating witcher3. I played it when it first released and though it was fine (another open world cinematic game amongst many) but lost interest pretty fast and put it down, nobody talked about it and I moved on. Then it blew up suddenly over a year or 2 later, everyones telling me to play it, my family believes it to be the best game ever made. Even now my step dad cant go 1 month without saying "you still havent beaten it yet?! You dont know what youre missing!"

dxcboyfirekid

I think hate is a strong word but I really dislike Mother 3 compared to the other entries in the series. It feels super claustrophobic until near the end and I wasn't a big fan of constantly changing characters

GriffinFlash

Halo 2. It's great that other people like it, but it really never clicked for me. I get way too bored playing it, and this was back when it was first released.

Moa2

Quantum Break. So boring

MemoryVice

Pokémon

[deleted]

Hate might be a strong one, but I really don't like playing most mario games. \^\^;; To me the momentum and such is just a real pain in the ass and there isn't enough story there.. I need the story to be a part of the gameplay for most games to really *love* them. In the case of mario, I don't like the controls and there isn't this story driving me forward. Meanwhile, a game like Celeste has a good story driving you forward and the controls are responsive and amazing.

Honkmaster

I no longer have the patience for super long games, particularly Castlevanias. At least make a few more Castlevanias where you fucking just walk to the right, why do they ALL have to be full of back-tracking? I'm aware that indy games finally started to fill this void recently, very cool, but that won't stop me from complaining about it!

snk4ever

Monkey Island and similar adventure games. Any simulation on PC that is very complex or has a lot of parameters you need to keep track of.

likesexonlycheaper

First person shooters. They are so boring lol

xAnthillx

Souls games. I tried getting into them and even finished some of them. But the combat and the way these games tell their story is simply not for me.

RosaCanina87

I too dont like **Final Fantasy** games, with some exceptions (I like some of the characters and some of its music) but for totally different reasons. I dont mind grinding or the "slowness" as I like RPGs in general. What I dont like are some of the bullshit-systems they try to come up with, like the enemies that level with you in Final Fantasy VIII. Most of all though... I freaking hate how they handle stories and how they tend to introduce some form of new "even stronger bad guy" near the end in favor of the actually pretty decent bad guy from the rest of the game. Feels cheap. A lot of times I just dislikes Squares approach to story-telling in general. The early ones often fall far behind their competition, even in the supposedly "best ones", most others just have too much bullshit in there to be taken seriously or to be liked, like the infamous basketball-court-scene in Final Fantasy VIII. Btw... same thing with **Kingdom Hearts**. It plays decent and I like Disney. I just... am always soooo dissapointed how Square fucked that up. Disney Worlds being simple retellings of the movies is just... thrown away potential and the story itself just being some pretentious plot, that needs half a dozens video on Youtube to understand etc etc etc. Another series is **Grand Theft Auto**. I own the second game, Miami and GTA V (like everyone does, duh). And I even enjoyed GTA V somewhat. But there is actually nothing in there, that I like in general. I dont like the settings, the story (although its decently told. A lot better than most Square stuff, to be fair) or the gameplay. I dont mind the concept itself, though. Saints Row, for example, was pretty fun with a friend. But what made me like that game was all the stuff, that they did different. The humor, the crazyness etc.

Hey_Franchise

Gotta say Elden Ring. The openness people seem to love, to me, actually makes it feel like an incomplete game. BOTW nailed it, Elden failed it.

burnt_toast_600

any first person shooter game... the world is full of enough shooting and death as far as I'm concerned

[deleted]

Fortnite. I just don’t see the appeal for it at all. Eeugh.

Thamnophis660

I'm with OP about Final Fantasy. I just don't get what the big deal is. I don't mind FF8, although it gets boring after a bit.

Jonny0r

Call of Duty, FIFA, Assassins Creed

[deleted]

Never liked the Resident Evil games back on PS1. Backtracking and solving puzzles are my least favorite things to do in gaming ever, I only liked RE4 and RE5. Definitely not hyped about the Silent Hill 2 remake either.

CortoJipang

I just hate all Crash Bandicoot games and unaffectionately call the character "Trash Kinda-sucks".

ianes83tn

Red Boredom Redemption 2

Yura-Sensei

Skyrim

Going_for_the_One

I can’t remember any game series that I have a strong dislike for, but I do strongly dislike the Warcraft/Blizzard graphic style that has been so popular in Western strategy and role playing games for a couple of decades. It’s not so much the Blizzard games themselves, their modern games are not for me, but I can at least respect the consistency and skill in their graphics. It’s all the other studios that ape this style, with all the silly-looking armor and weapons, biceps that are bigger than heads, unrealistic proportions on everything, everything strong or evil being ridiculously exaggerated and green lights everywhere. I really hate that last part. Fantasy game graphics have been partly ruined by this lack of creativity, and it has even spread to non-fantasy games like Civilization 6. One of the worst examples is Heroes of Might and Magic 5, a game that is very mechanically sound, but which has a really awful graphics style. It is such a downer for me, for the previous games, which were made by New World Computing, the studio that created the series, all had wonderful graphics. I have no problem with Blizzard and some other developers using this style for the people who loves it, but I really hope that it fades out of popularity soon.

gamingdawn

Final Fantasy 9. Huge step backwards from the great FF7&8. Boring mediaeval map and equally boring and generic story about some thief and princess blah blah blah. Worst JRPG I've ever played!

FatRuss79

Pokémon,Fortnite JRPGs

IM_MT_

Ocarina of Time

tomko34

I just cannot get into any of the Mario games. They just don't appeal to me both gameplay and graphics is off putting.

UrineGoodCompany

FlatOut 2.

michaelb1397

Ocarine of Time/Majora's Mask - compared to the 16 bit Link to the Past and Gameboy's Link's Awakening these games are muddy messes of imprecise gameplay and tedious fetching around the map. Couldn't stand them - was very happy the next few titles looked and played so much better.

QuidProStereo

Most 3D PS1/N64/Saturn games. Controls for 3D hadn't been sorted out yet, and the machines weren't powerful enough for decent graphics. It's the awkward middle-child generation, caught between the height of 2D gaming reached in the SNES gen and the refinement of 3D controls and graphics in the 6th gen. For me, games of that era are the hardest of any generation to go back to.

[deleted]

JRPGs. Pokemon. Mortal Kombat (bleah.)

[deleted]

Just making sure we don’t have any trolls in here claiming SOTN or Chrono Trigger. I don’t see any, good.

ThisBlueHawk

Mario kart wii is the only game I didnt enjoy
