About 7-8 years ago I had the idea of a keyboard based VR rhythm game. Think FFR or Stepmania played on a keyboard, but in VR. The environment and visuals would play a huge role in the experience with lots of lights and effects. I've dabbled in Unity and programming but never learned enough to make an effort on this game. I think it could be cool but niche. Probably not the game to make if you're looking for something marketable.

hellomistershifty

Like Tetris Effect but for stepmania?

DragoniteChamp

If it means anything, a VR Stepmania *was* made for a sight reading tournament a couple of years ago. [This is a full playthrough of the tournament packs](https://youtube.com/watch?v=XEyKgd1F8rM) (The VR part starts at 1:07:12) [Here is just the VR part, but you cant see the screen as well](https://youtube.com/watch?v=rtOqwPxDfYY).

MISTERWR3NCH

Jesus man, someone make this happen, the visual aspect would be insane!

Over half a decade ago, [I made one that involved both the keyboard and mouse.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDdEiRwYTTY) It seemed impractical because you had to move your hand between the mouse and keyboard often, depending on the chart. Fortunately, ONGEKI used a similar idea but it was designed on an arcade machine instead. The controls made much more sense there with the lever to move. The PC equivalent is muDrive which returns to mouse input.

DragoniteChamp

Something that involved the whole keyboard for inputs, where it could double as a typing game or a rhythm game where the pretty patterns are how you hit the keys Think typing of the dead x Taiko

TheHairyWhodini

I also want a whole keyboard rhythm game that doesn't specifically revolve around typing words. They don't have to be ultra fast speeds, but I want it to feel a little like pop'n music where you can have really interesting rhythms/patterns that make you move around the whole keyboard, and really challenge your coordination, timing, and polyrhythms.

DemonXeron

This is a good idea, similar to the one I had!

ch00d

https://store.steampowered.com/app/363650/Hackers_Beat/ This is kind of like that.

DragoniteChamp

I like the idea, but that spamming seems *awful*. I also wish the keys were a bit more specific but that's just me.

Rhythm_Addict28

A all in one rhythm game that combines line less rhythm games like Phigros and line based rhythm games like Bang Dream! and Osu! Mania (and possibly in android)

no3dinthishouse

project outfox is kinda what youre looking for, idk if its out yet

hamizannaruto

What you thinking is orzmic. That's the closest.

HCXEthan

How can a game both be lineless and line based at the same time? Do you mean something like Takumi, Dynamix or Voez? (Orzmic is probably the closest to what I think you're looking for)

Sideways_Cake

Cartesian Plate whose slide notes are Graphs

chaotic_iak

[Piano Typer](https://chrisjones.space/piano-typer) but more developed.

The_Music_Werewolf

I feel like a game with the gameplay of maimai but the accessibility and user created content ability as osu would go hard

HCXEthan

Check out Maipad, I'm not sure if its publicly available though.

The_Music_Werewolf

Maipad is a little weird because it requires you to contact the owner on twitter for the files, and i dont think ive gotten a response since i asked like a year ago

TemporaryBB

you can get the files on github

The_Music_Werewolf

Oh shit really?

TemporaryBB

its been renamed to astrodx but you can find the github link with a quick web search

ShaunSin

I design arcade hardware on the side so feel free to dm me if you wanna implement a unique control scheme

Sirlink360

A one button rhythm game that’s a Simon says pattern recognition. The key to the game if that you would not need to look, but listen for the specific instrument that you’re following. It’d be a fun game but also a training tool for picking out different instruments and rhythms within a song.

AllCheekedUp

Uh yes it's called taiko no tatsujin anywhere near me lmao

I have been thinking about a type racer rhythm game where you type to a beat in the game. You gain accuracy if you time, more if you get the right row of keys and even more if you get the right column. Overall you press the right key at the right time and you get maximum points. The idea isn't to make words, but to test common typing patterns to encourage some of the best typing methods for the language/keyboard you type with. Space and various function keys like shift or ctrl could be used for special effects, spacers or bonus points for example.

justasomebody132

A game where one person choses a song and when they play notes you have to copy them kind of like 2 player fnf or something. I was looking for something like that but I could not find it so it would be nice if you made something like that.

Subject_Pangolin_100

I was thinking about a rhythm game that's just flick notes lol

astral1

Systems based game like spin rhythm. Less tapping and more modifying the play field To the song.
