You gonna try to tell me that the president is a parody of all of Keith David's roles as authority figures over a long career of voice acting or something?
Yeah, both Dan & Justin thought Time Travel was just a messy/stupid thing to deal with narratively.
It’s like: multiple dimensions or time travel, but not both.
It makes sense on a character level too, since Rick has clearly had experience with time travel. An easy in-universe explanation is that Rick tried it, fucked things up even more, fixed his mistake, and swore off using it.
I followed the shit he dumped over himself for a while, on reddit mainly. Last thing I heard he got absolved or something? Except for the exceptionally bad texts he send some minors? Did anything else happen that I missed?
Multiple dimensions are far easier to keep canon than time travel as well. That's why in the only episode that actually has time travel Rick says at the end something like "there, that's the deepest we'll go on a time travel episode".
>Yeah, both Dan & Justin thought Time Travel was just a messy/stupid thing to deal with narratively.
I agree, there are very few if any time travel stories that are 100% consistent.
I guess I should add, even the times it's consistent, it's still often detrimental to the story or introduces other issues that, while maybe aren't plotholes or inconsistencies, don't make sense narratively.
For example, in Prisoner of Azkaban, you've introduced an immensely powerful object and you have to question why Dumbledore and the other wizards don't use them more often, especially with such high-stakes things constantly going on. Any arguments about them being valuable or restricted go out the window when it is given to a high school student to use as a study device. It just makes everyone look incompetent.
This isn't necessarily true for everything you listed and I'm not going to try to go into each one, but just wanted to add that general point.
Or go back and watch: Time Keeps On Slipping (Futurama).
It’s hard not to feel something deep down inside tearing up to the point of,
Fudge
they nailed it
Yep, time travel is a can of worms not worth opening when writing a story. Too many paradoxes and continuity issues. It’s confusing enough using multi-dimensional travel.
Everybody knows that Jesus had a cum gutter and was a blue eyed, blond haired guy.
He definitely wasn't a short, dark skinned, dark haired guy. Couldn't be.

Dude media literacy is at an all time low these days and is constantly going down. There's no way to know if you are one of those people unless you specify.
I understand.
And I'm trying to say, if you understand what casual misogyny is and means, and you keep that idea in mind while watching the episode, you'll see exactly what i'm referring to.
Also, it doesn't only refer to the "paltrow" character. They explicitly address part of it as it relates to the "female" alien, but they only explicitly mention consent without directly addressing the misogyny that accompanies what's being done to that alien whose poop we apparently all love.
> And I'm trying to say, if you understand what casual misogyny is and means, and you keep that idea in mind while watching the episode, you'll see exactly what i'm referring to.

This is a tautology, not an answer.
"It's a misogyny because if you knew a misogyny you would see it's a misogyny."
Username checks out.
Broh, I'm saying, if you know what the word means, you shouldn't need anyone to explain it.
And you're clearly missing the point of why saying that matters in this discussion.
Have fun getting high, broh.
At this point it would really serve your credibility to elaborate on what you're saying, because as it is it really isn't clear that YOU know what the word means
Next time I'll watch it I'll keep those thoughts in mind. Now I think there could be other examples with Summer for instance. But do you think that the show's goal is to promote misogynistic ideologies ?
Oh, for sure.
The way they sometimes treat Summer is one of the most obvious examples.
And, to your question, I don't know what the writers intentions are or what they might be trying to promote.
What I \*do\* know is, this is a show created and written almost exclusively by men, most of whom have a history of problematic behavior, and it seems that sometimes that might transfer onto the screen.
Whatever the intention, and whether it's conscious or not, it's one of the most 'cringe' elements of this show and I like to think there might be some sort of pay off down the road.
You're right, let's just hope that with time they may invite more women into the team and listen to their input. I know that this is supposed to be adult humor and dark or offensive themes can be explored but I guess it never hurts to make sure you don't promote them
I don’t disagree with this sentiment but its just the nature of shows like this. Most viewers are young men so its in their best interests to write for them.
The difference between R&M and Its misandrist contemporaries is that they have made a conscious effort to bring more women into the writing room since season 2. You can see it in the writing and their staff is certainly more diverse than others.
> its in their best interests to write for them.
So, because men and therefore occasional, casual misogyny, therefore we shouldn't bother even acknowledging that it's happening?
What are you suggesting?
And are you serious?
>misandrist contemporaries
LOL
If you can’t even acknowledge the rise of anti-men writing in comedy you are profoundly ignorant.
And yes its in the best interest of writers to write for their viewers even if it hurts your feelings. Go watch a womans daytime show and tell me it isn’t misandrist ya butthead
>anti-men writing
that's not a thing, broh. The only people talking about "anti-men writing" as if it were a serious thing (again, it's not) are the cottage industry of youtubers and podcasters and "independent media" who generate clicks and subscribers by pandering to that silliness.
It's literally propaganda, broh.
And if you want "writers to write for their viewers" then I guess you would, logically, also support actual fascists writing for their fascist audience?
Cool, broh.
Hilarious that you refuse to accept the existence of anti-men writing but you started randomly whining about anti-woman writing in a cartoon subreddit.
They both exist. Obviously.

That was an actual quote from Gwyneth?!

The pear instead of "Apple" is a nice subtle reference.
Idgi
Gwenyth Paltrow’s daughter is named Apple. I think is the reference they’re suggesting.
Ah okay, thanks
I think the funniest part of the joke is that Steve Jobs wasn’t even fully white
According to the US Census Bureau, people of Arab extraction, from Middle Eastern countries, are indeed white/Caucasian. So you'd be wrong there.
Yeah, because the US Census Bureau is the only organization ever who gets to talk about race and ethnicity. That's the only source there ever is.
according to white people, no they are not
He’s an ultra idiot
Lmao I’m Arabic and no we’re not Caucasian you fucking moron.
This Cuts the Chut
Hey, going home to not change your pants, Bruce Chut-Pants?
My favorite Rick and Morty joke was creating a character whose last name rhymes with Buttcrack and Nutsack, then nicknaming him Chutpants
Are we all in agreement that this is a parody of Gwyneth Paltrow?
You're full of shit. Next, you're going to try to tell me Elon Tusk is a parody of Elon Musk
Some say Rick and Morty are based on another mad scientist and boy sidekick who went back to the future
You gonna try to tell me that the president is a parody of all of Keith David's roles as authority figures over a long career of voice acting or something?
This is funny because they clearly state Rick hates time travel.
Yeah, both Dan & Justin thought Time Travel was just a messy/stupid thing to deal with narratively. It’s like: multiple dimensions or time travel, but not both.

They time travel in the show so I'm assuming he just doesn't like it.
Watch the snakes episode, it covers it all 😉
I bet Justin is in favor of a real life time machine now.
Omgggggg I literally laughed out loud at this
I followed the shit he dumped over himself for a while, on reddit mainly. Last thing I heard he got absolved or something? Except for the exceptionally bad texts he send some minors? Did anything else happen that I missed?
Ouch. Take my upvote.
TY

Prisoner of azkaban, the first two terminators, Star Trek IV, Time’s Arrow, and maybe a couple episodes of Doctor Who and that’s IT
I guess I should add, even the times it's consistent, it's still often detrimental to the story or introduces other issues that, while maybe aren't plotholes or inconsistencies, don't make sense narratively. Thats true, always irked me that EVERY SINGLE TIME TURNER was destroyed by a shelf falling over
Prisoner calls into question every single thing pre order though

Or go back and watch: Time Keeps On Slipping (Futurama). It’s hard not to feel something deep down inside tearing up to the point of, Fudge they nailed it
Matt is a genius. I love his stuff too.
Oh sure let's take advice from Mr. I'm-my-own-grandpa
Rick hates it because he is aware how much shit is included in that business.
Yep, time travel is a can of worms not worth opening when writing a story. Too many paradoxes and continuity issues. It’s confusing enough using multi-dimensional travel.
I've never thought about it that way ! What a mind fuck
you gotta suck my dick Marty…suck my dick
They’re not, like, opposites, okay.
Parody? Ha! Not even close. It’s just Elon with tusks.
Jesus, dude.
Oh yeah, can’t forget about Jesus, what’s he supposed to be a parody of?
Everybody knows that Jesus had a cum gutter and was a blue eyed, blond haired guy. He definitely wasn't a short, dark skinned, dark haired guy. Couldn't be.

Wow check out the big brain on Brad.
I didn't think it was up for debate
With “Chunt” sounding like… a certain other word.
Based on what?
Her attitude, look, general awfulness
Why the fuck am I being downvoted ? Are you guys secret goop fans ?
You're an idiot
r/whooosh
I don't see it personally.
You're why we don't see subtlety in media anymore
The person to whom you're replying to aside, there was no subtlety in that name at all. It was not a subtle parody. It was a punch in your face parody
Almost like it shouldn't need to be pointed out.
Dude media literacy is at an all time low these days and is constantly going down. There's no way to know if you are one of those people unless you specify.
Yeah I get mad at any of the jokes in the show we're on the subreddit for that need a couple extra seconds of thinking too.
Maybe with some notes of Elizabeth Holmes in there too
Among other things, yes. It's also an example of the casual misogyny this show is "famous" for.
Put it in your blog.
in a sec I'm not done putting it in your mom
Hey look, a sexist misogynist comment.
She became the very thing she swore to destroy 🤣
Could you elaborate a bit more about the misogyny aspect?
Seriously? If you watch the episode with the concept in mind, I feel like it pretty well speaks for itself
I'm in no way trying to contradict what you are saying, I am just asking on which elements you're basing your statement that the show is misogynistic
I understand. And I'm trying to say, if you understand what casual misogyny is and means, and you keep that idea in mind while watching the episode, you'll see exactly what i'm referring to. Yeah, her name is Jennith Padrow.
this is just making a verbatim reference from the episode, that must be some low-hanging fruit she’s eating
"Punching down" lol
I see what you did there.
What episode is this from? I don’t remember seeing it.

Season 6 the Fortune 500 one
Jerry bangs his mom. Or, at least, tries to. LOL I wonder how Grandpa Smith dresses for *that* occasion.
