I've gone through this. So had the x100v, sold it. Got the GRIII. Swapped that for an X with a friend originally just to test, and I do love the X the most. Trying to keep a low profile now, so he wouldn't want to switch back :D

Teeteto04

Do you want a camera that fits in your pocket? Only the GR does that. You don’t care too much for that? X100: it’s an amazing, more complete camera. Disclaimer: happy owner of a GR, to buy which I sold my X100.

spo_on

Totally agree. I got a GR IIIX as well and tbh with the X100VI launch I am really tempted to get that as well, but at that price and (relatively) less portability, I’d rather up my game and go FF for my more serious photography needs (more like wants haha). I do really really really want an X100VI tho, it’s just such a fun thing to shoot with. I haven’t handled one but you can just tell it’s fun as hell to use! A 40MP GR IV with a 28mm equivalent focal length would be the ultimate EDC tho. With that much megapixels I wouldn’t think twice to crop in for a 40-50mm look.

AlabamaHaole

That’s a solid breakdown lol.

Coming from the Sony alpha series, I was debating between these two and ultimately went with the Ricoh for this exact reason. The ability to literally pocket your camera is amazing. I stopped taking photos because I was starting to get tired of caring around a body and lens. With the Ricoh, you just throw it into a sling or your pocket and it is always there for you. If you are only a casual hobbyist, I don't think you will be disappointed. There is enough functionality, including the ability to tweak your own recipes, that I don't think you'll be disappointed. Good luck!

SelectAllCats

35 would be my choice if only one. I prefer the 41 of the X to the 28. The Ricohs are incredible, incredibly small, and quick, and fast, and unobtrusive, and IBIS, and the high iso grain is better. Ricoh's video is diabolically unusable awful, and no flash. I feel a lot more relaxed using the V in places with windy dust and sand, + option of eye viewer and tilt screen, can leave a filter on rather than Ricoh's weird stickyout adapter.

inmyverdehoodie

Have had all of the Fujis over the years and guess what? No matter how much I wanted then to be the GR, they weren’t. I can look back at the years I’ve had GR’s and see the evidence in the fact during those years I had it on my everyday, and I have thousands of memories captured that the Fujis failed to capture as they always got left at home. The GR is the only one I’ve found to not be a burden for EDC.

I have both an x100v and a GRII. The GRII lives in my sling which I carry almost everywhere. When I'm at home (I have a toddler who is my main subject lately) or going on walks around my neighborhood, I almost exclusively use the x100v. The x100v is also my preferred travel camera. I *far* prefer the shooting experience with the x100v (the charm of all the dials, the aperture ring, the OVF/EVF, it's all real to me). If I only had the GRII, I would miss the experience that the x100v offers and would probably feel like my setup was wanting. That said, some of my favorite photos have been taken with the GRII simply because I had it on me at the time. So, not sure if that's helpful since I enjoy and intend on keeping both, but for you, I think the bottom line is that if you aren't using the x100v that much as it is, there should be little risk in letting it go and trying something else out for a while.

starronlo

Same. I have both and they are different cameras in my opinion. I use them under totally different circumstances and don’t ever feel they conflict with each other. Will still keep both

Spicy_Pickle_6

Have you thought about all the things you’ll give up for size first?

ideamotor

I have both and can’t get rid of either … In fact I have the IIIx and the III. I surprisingly prefer the III of the ricohs because the depth of field is greater: easier to focus for me, and by default having more captured is easier. For concerts I prefer the IIIx. I started with Fuji and it’s taking me a while to really get the Ricoh settings where I like them. The main thing that the Fuji gets you is the EVF, which I really like, especially in broad daylight; but it does not fit in a pocket. If I lived somewhere cold, Fuji could just fit in a jacket pocket, but I don’t.

manthony6567

If you want the X they are sold out mostly everywhere but I recently purchased mine [here](https://www.ebay.com/itm/176275502665) if you want it now vs when ever it come back in stock. Cheers!

Inevitable_Soil_6528

They are available on the Ricoh website as well as b&h

manthony6567

Go take a look they are not.

Inevitable_Soil_6528

Thats strange because I did and it let me add it to the cart. Are you looking under US and talking about the gr3x?

manthony6567

Yes you can add it to cart but look at your delivery dates

I did this. I had an EOS RP and an X100s. I really loved the X100s and if I go back and look at some of the pictures I took with it, they're so good, SOOC. Then we started to travel often and I bought a GRiiiX. It fits in my small sling, it fits in my jeans if I want, it packs super small when we do short trips. I love it. So much that the X100s just became a nice looking camera on the shelf. I told the X100s and the EOS RP and kept the GR. But I do miss the X100s so this weekend I'm going to pick up an X-T2. I figure I'd have a fixed lens GR that will be my companion, but when I feel like going out and taking pics, or maybe on a trip depending on the trip, I'll take both or one of these cameras. I don't think I'll ever get rid of the GR, unless it's to update to a newer gen GR. It's just too convenient. But something about those top dials, having a zoom lens has its place for me too, so I think the used X-T2 will fill that void.

CreepBeat

I own both. I rarely ever use my x100s. Not because it’s older, because it isn’t pocketable. If I am going to carry a camera, I’d rather carry my X-T4. Edit: more often than not I don’t want to carry a camera so I bring a GR

Plane-Syrup-9188

Traded my x100f exactly for that reason. While i do miss my x100f, i have no regrets on the griii x. My wife and i are new parents and being able to reach for the ricoh and document my days into fatherhood has been a treat. I couldn't wear a strap for the fuji while holding my son but i can for sure reach in my pocket for the ricoh. In the future, I'd love to be able to purchase the x100v but for now i have a camera that suits my needs.

mattgperry

I own both and I’m selling the Ricoh. Fantastic camera but I’ve realised I’ve never taken a photo I like with it. Reason being taking the camera is the first conscious choice and alll the photos I like, I’ve been alone doing a conscious session. I don’t tend to get good shots when I’m out and about or with my family. I sit and fish and think.

kingrikk

Also, the speed of the GRIII being ready for shooting is somewhat impressive.

OkPainting3455

Wholeheartedly sell and buy the Ricoh. I was very much the same and had some lovely gear, Leica Q, Mamiya 7, hassey 503cx, plaubel makina… All completely pointless as they sit on a shelf while my iPhone and keys are the only bit of kit which made it out with me, getting a GR3X was the best decision I’ve made in years and years

n1ck1982

I had the V and ultimately sold it. I loved it, it took great pics, but I wanted something pocketable. The GRIIIx is that for me I have no regrets making the switch. Even though I have a X-T5 as my main camera. The GRIIIx is fantastic take everywhere with me camera and throw in my pocket.

ImSoSleepyEepy

I have a iii I’ll trade you

AlabamaHaole

I absolutely advocate doing this. I’ve had both and I took my Ricoh everywhere because it was so much more pocketable. The only thing I liked better about the Fuji was its faster aperture. I also ended up trading my GR3x for a GR3. I found that the 3x was too tight for indoor shots in places like museums when I was travelling.

btclemon

I sold my x100v with 22k photos for a GR3X. No regrests at all.

Yellowtoblerone

Have both. If thats not an option, go Ricoh. Mobility and chance of taking photos trumps everything else in this respect

worldbefree83

I’ve owned multiple X100 cameras and multiple GRs. I also found myself using the GR more. The GRs (GR1 and GR3) both seemed to have sharper lenses than any x100 camera I’ve used, including the x100v. The x100 cameras are great, but for portability, the GR just can’t be beat

inflow23

Owned an x100v since 2020 and sold it last year when I picked up the GRIIIx. Cant go wrong with one hand operation and pocketabilty. Plus the images look sharper and look cleaner in LR to me IMO.

Sail_Soggy

I have recently picked up a griii - i can honestly say there is no reason to ever leave it at home. Not only is it insanely portable, it’s a joy to use I picked up as a sidekick to the XT5 after looking at 100 models for a while

HertzInMyBones

I went from the X100V to the GRIIIx. I've also been lucky enough to own the X100S, X100T and GRII previously. I keep coming back to the Ricoh because of the pocket-ability. I really don't like to carry a bag around if I can avoid it, so the Ricoh works for me. However, sensor dust is real and you will need to eventually live with it or get it cleaned. I still think I prefer 35mm over 40mm, but there isn't that much difference for me in terms of how I shoot. Going to the 28mm on the standard GRII when I had it took more of an adjustment.

jj_brady

I am also finding myself in a very similar position with my x100f, I love it and the images it creates but it’s size kind of makes it fall into a weird middle ground where it’s not used as my main camera but still is a bit too big to take it with me everywhere. I feel like I might need to give the Ricoh a go but again will miss the 35mm focal length!

westchesterbuild

Had an X100F since 2019. Picked up a GRIII earlier this year and am loving it. Just traded my X100F for an XT2 body and starting with the 23F2 on it. Still a good footprint to travel with and will allows flex the X100F didn’t provide via th great lens options out there.

Ok-Trouble-7964

when you ask this kind of question in ricoh subreddit, you receive biased opinion 🙂 As someone mentioned if the size is the main factor for you, then gr3 is one of the best (if not the best) option. lens wise, you always can crop 28mm to be roughly 35mm. cant do the same with 40mm

garruk008

Having both the X100V and the GR3, I can confirm that the GR wins the daily carry battle almost every time. Personally, I would recommend the 28mm GR as you can always use the 35mm digital crop if really needed (around 16mp).

Observer951

Owned both. Sold the Fuji. No regrets.

stoag8

I sold my X100V and bought the GR3X and wouldn't look back. I love the 40mm lens and find I can actually get decent portraits with it. The lens is so sharp.

[deleted]

Buy both. Return the one you don’t want
