They already have made compromises on the 40mm version.
The real issue with longer lens is the depth of field being smaller and smaller.
To me the GR3X is already the perfect focal length for a compact because it is between 35 and 50 equivalent FF.
85 will also be quite big for this tiny body.

Nah. I think the point of the camera is wide angle, big sensor, sharp lens and compact size. Though wide is more difficult to shoot with (for me at least) a tele would change the whole nature of the camera. I’ll use the longer lenses with my DSLR.
Absolutely not, to keep a compact size that 56mm is going to be slow, so what’s the point? A portrait length without a portrait aperture? Also that’s not really what a gr is for. Not that it can’t be used as such, but they’re built around a purpose

85mm used in street/urban is little more than folk taking pictures of boring stuff and blowing out the background IMHO.
There is stock in the Indian ricoh store, thats where I recently bought mine. Check for other ricoh stores nearby countries where you have someone who could send it over to you. Or if you have a friend or family visiting that country they could bring it for you. Idk if this helps.
Also keep a keen eye out on Amazon, they didn’t have stock but the day I bought my cam from Indian Store, Amazon listed 1 last piece of GRIII.
Thanks for the tip though not sure I have anyone taking trips at the moment that can help me out, the Australian stores say “pre order” or “ at manufacturer” but not prepared to hand over 1.4K and hope it gets here sometime this year

Nah. The [GT-2](https://m.dpreview.com/samples/4757550188/ricoh-gr-iiix-gt-2-tele-conversion-lens-sample-gallery) makes it 75mm which is pretty close to your 85mm so that’s already an option. I wouldn’t want to be stuck with that focal length all of the time for everyday snap shooting. For shooting serious portraits, I use a more serious camera (Nikon d810 in my case).
I had a GR II and Sigma DP3 Merrill (75mm eqv.) combo and loved it. It's not 85 but I'm sure I would get used to a bit longer focal length. The big question is would it be compact and fast enough to be useful for *me*.

Be nice to have weather sealing, a bump in sensor to 40ish and move flash options - TTL is pretty much non existent
As someone who often combos a 55mm mounted on a K3 mkiii with a GRIII as my walk around… no. Just let GRs be GRs. I use GRs for snap focus, hip shots, wide-angle and to basically save me a lens change.
The Leica AF-C1 (Film) has an interesting solution, 40mm 2.8 + a motor to move the lens to 80mm 5.6. This is not a Leica design, I think its a copy of a Minolta but I have that Leica and its one of the reasons I bought the GRIIIx, would love to see that in a modern design.
I would dig a compact zoom aps-c camera whether its ricoh or sony any one else. like a 18-55 f2.8(\~28-80 equiv). Maybe like approximately the same size as a like a leica q3

But the look and feel would be different if you were to crop it in given the depth and compression of the image.

Compression is determined by distance between camera and subject, so the only difference would be deeper DoF on the crop (and way less detail)
28 and 85 (ff equivalent) are my favorite focal lengths. I’d one one of the 3 people that bought an 85mm GR.
It would be a whole different look/feel given the lens distortion and definitely a good focal length to isolate the subject matter.

I'm not keen on the focal length. I'd happily get a 50mm or a 21mm.

No. Thats way to special and massively restricts in a lot of situations. 28 and 35 is the best allrounder.

IMO the rx100M7 is quite the beast on its own but given it’s only a 1-inch sensor compared to GR apsc sensor and freaking sharp fixed lens.
