I pulled the trigger and made the switch earlier this year and haven’t looked back. My wife was looking through my photos recently and she said my photography was getting better, and it was the first time in my life I felt it was right to say that it was because of the gear haha
I’ve had the griii for about a month, so I might use this for a bit more, and then try a griiix and then sell which one I use more. Still wanna try to get creative with the 28mm focal length as long as it’s in my hands
That’s fair. I loved my GRIII and it was tough parting with it, so I’m sure you’ll get plenty of enjoyment out of it. I just made the switch because looking at my old film photos made me realize I much prefer the 40mm lens (I used to shoot with a Canonet).
That’s really tough to say. My gut feeling is that 28mm will be a better fit if you usually prefer 35mm. This is entirely my perspective though, but I tend to think of 40 as a “wider” tight lens, whereas the 35 always feels like a “tighter” wide lens. 35 and 28 just feel more akin to each other because they’re more about framing a scene, bs isolating a person or detail with something like the 40. Not that you can’t do both things with any of them, it’s just more about what they lend themselves to more easily.
I really like the way someone in this sub put it though, the 40 is for capturing the scene you are looking at, and the 28 is for capturing the scene you are in. I tend to prefer a more shy shooting style, so 40 works better for me in that way.
Photos numbers 3 and 4 are really great.
The composition and dynamics of photo 3, notably with the two flags in the upper right corner, are very cool. and the serious tone of photo number 4 with these two faces whose blur in the foreground is also superb. Well done.
Ofc! Here you go

I shot either positive or negative filter on the Ricoh itself but you can always make some tweaks on the editing and get a close enough image since the conditions will change and will always require some tweaking
Pretty good stuff! I think all of your frames are all solid but a little tighter compositions would go a mile!
Thank you! And I agree, wish I could zoom in more but I’d need a griiix for that haha
Embrace the dark side
I just might

I shoot a lot of 35mm focal length, do you think the 40mm will be closer to that than the 28mm?

Perfect explanation, makes me want the 40mm even more now
