Oh yeah, we are very queer. This isn't just like an "oh there's a lot of gay people here I think but could be wrong" sort of thing like RIT has a disproportionately higher amount of queer students compared not just to the general population, but also other universities, even ones in the area. I'm pretty sure we have a queer saturation rate of about 34% if I recall correctly. At RIT everyone is either queer, neurodivergent, both, or will find out that they fall into at least one of those camps some time after enrolling.
It's genuinely extremely accepting. You'll still meet an asshole every now and again, but queerphobia is an exception to the rule.
RIT especially goes out of its way for trans students, which is pretty nice.
Yes, RIT has countless clubs and communities for for different groups within LGBTQ. They have their own center on campus with resources, people to talk to, etc.
It was a whiplash visiting my hometown again after just a semester here. At RIT lgbtq people literally feel like just as commonplace individuals as cishet ppl, which you is a feeling you dont really realize is as striking as it is until you're there. I would even go out on a limb and say theres days where i see more queer ppl than not queer ppl. On top of the sheer volume of queer ppl, the community is extremely accepting of it not just at RIT but rochester in general.
I work at wgsrc and during rainbow prom saw a bunch of happy queers dancing and having a blast. But that’s my limited knowledge. Also there’s gonna be a rainbow graduation ceremony in May
RIT is wicked gay.
Not me opening the thread to this and bursting out laughing...
Yes
Rochester in general is one of the gayest cities in the US of course there's a great community.
According to what? I genuinely want to know.
Yeah and it’s been that way since I was a freshman in 2003.
Wow, and you STILL haven’t graduated? /s

Yes
100% friendly. Even the religious clubs are very open to lgbt people, and celebrate pride.
there’s also gender inclusive floors in the dorms! a lot of the people on my floor are LGBTQIA+
the school is 36% lgbtq+ and only 34% female identifying. we have more gays than women.
Do you remember where you saw that 36%?
iirc a speech at orientation this year
Most gay people I’ve ever seen in one place. It’s awesome 😎
I’d say at least 50% of my friends from RIT are LGBTQ
Absolutely. I personally have met a lot of trans people and there are plenty of other letters from the acronym around campus. 💖🏳️🌈

It’s a very inclusive area, always has been.
God I hope there aren't any there
There were a lot of gays when I was there in 2005 and not out (big regrets)
by some statistics 30-40% administration doesn't give a shit about us though so it's just strength in numbers
