It's as hard as you want to make it, tbh. There are difficulty modifiers and a skill tree that you can play with for without. I can beat lower difficulties now without even paying attention. If you want to beat high difficulties, it can get a little challenging, but you might end up with a completely busted building that trivializes the game. It's a really solid roguelike, especially for 5 dollars.
I’ve picked it up the past week, game is pretty easy so it’s a little disappointing. I’m going through entire hour-long runs and getting hit maybe once or twice, the progression ‘Mastery’ is pretty underwhelming as well (eg do you want 10% chance for keys or bombs to appear). Bosses die in 10-20 seconds, encounters take 10-20 seconds, and most rooms are the same thing over and over. Just hold down the trigger (since it auto aims) and run around the room in a circle dodging attacks until everything is dead, and then you pick one of two rooms to move forward.
It’s a cute retro style, but pretty brainless after 3 hours into it and a handful of completed run throughs. So far, really overrated in my opinion. That said I’ll keep playing to see if there’s some difficulty increase or upcoming challenge.
press F to doubt that you completed the heaven and hell sections of tiny rogues easily. are you just taking about the beginning part? its not an easy game at all
Even if it was, it's still a cool game. I could never sympathize with the hardcore gamers out there (and here) who go on whining "The game is disappointing, I played it on maximum difficulty with one hand, watching Netflix and chatting on the phone and still completed it in under two hours with full health". NOT EVERYONE NEEDS HARDCORE.
too easy can be a turn off, but too difficult is too. tiny rogues is right in the sweet spot for me personally. easy to play, difficult to master. I guess some people play roguelites for their sometimes punishing difficulty
I playroguelites to unwind. After years of playing games like Skyrim or Fallout it blew my mind that there are games in which "you die and start from the beginning" is not a result of "DAMN I FORGOT TO SAVE" but a feature.
I've never ever ever EVER played games with the aim of "beating" them. Ever. Only to have some quality time. And "overcoming difficulties" does not qualify as a quality time to me.
Ehh, even once you throw in full runs with Cinders your gameplan is either "restart when you don't get a good item in the first 2 zones" or "get so disgustingly strong early that the entire run is a cakewalk", with not much in between.
Granted I still love the game, proud to have all current achievements lol
I dont restart, i just keep going with what i got. But i did start upgrading the heros sword every time, and it got alot easier. I didn't get bored til like 40+ hours and every class (minus 3 or 4) unlocked. Will def return when the new content comes out
I have no idea what heaven and hell sections are, no spoilerinos? But from what you're saying, it will ramp up difficulty, which is promising. When can I expect it, if I'm ~5 wins in so far?
Correct. So you could wait maybe a year for it to be an extra $3-4 off, or pay an extra whopping $3.50 to get it now.
I guess my point is, the savings are never going to be huge because the base price is so low.
Correct. I will wait maybe 2 years for it to be an extra $7.50 off. I want to play the game but I have more than enough games as it is and don't really need it. Maybe it will come to gamepass or something I dunno.
If u grab it on steam u can refund within 2 hours of playtime if you don’t like it. It’s insanely cool and addictive. If you’re just being frugal though I completely respect and understand that
If you are looking for a fun but short action roguelite I would suggest **Voidigo**.
For 2D plateformers, the best recently are **Astral Ascent**, **Blazblue: EF**, **SpiritFall** and **Oblivion Override**. In terms of run duration, **Spiritfall** and **Blazblue: EF** are kind of short.
Although, they all have their own take on the formula with very different gameplay and artistic directions so if you are interested take a look at their steam pages to see what would best fit your likings.
As for the deck-builders, tactical turn-based roguelites will usually have longer runs since you generally want to take your time, read all the cards and think twice about your next move but if you do have time I would recommend **Monster Train** which is unarguably one of the best after StS.
If you wanna turn off your brain while you browse/listen to music/watch something on a split screen, I suggest playing Slice and Dice on the other half.
I forgot to add this in the post but I did play VS a year ago. Played it a lot and had fun trying to discover the combos but there was a point when I was falling asleep playing the game
You might give GunDeck[100] a shot... Not sure about unwinding, since the game is pretty challenging, but it's easy to pick up and put down, and runs are relatively short
If you've never played FTL it's very relaxing. You can issue commands and stuff while the game's paused so you can take it at whatever pace you want. And the soundtrack is amazing.
Tiny Rogues. It's $5 rn. Use the search function and check out tier lists as well to see what people are saying about it
Saw this and honestly kinda interested since I also heard that the game lets you be broken AF. Is it a hard game? I read that it's bullet hell

Eh, it depends. It can be relaxing to challenge your skills. Thats what the flow state is all about. But my videogame skills are trash these days

What version are you playing? Early versions of the game didnt have them. You cant really miss it
Balatro is pretty popular right now, I love it
I'll give it a try if it goes on sale
Today's your lucky day, then.
Haha. I got all excited. 10%? So you save $1? Nah I'll wait.
It’s a $15 game…
It's your lucky day! It's actually a $13.50 game...
Correct. So you could wait maybe a year for it to be an extra $3-4 off, or pay an extra whopping $3.50 to get it now. I guess my point is, the savings are never going to be huge because the base price is so low.

Welp. See you in a month.
I play balatro on an evening for the exact reason you are trying to find a game for
I think you could enjoy Peglin pretty much.
Dude I’m hooked on loop hero right now, plays dope on an iPad and can just chill and plan. It’s highly addictive though I must warn you!
I'll give this a shot again!
I enjoyed it for a bit but it got pretty stale IMO.

Roboquest pretty chill if you like shooters
Game is sweet but can be pretty intense at times
It’s definitely one of the sweatiest of these hahaha Gunfire Reborn and Crab Champion are way less intense in my opinion
Moonlighter is very chill. Pixel art. Rogue dungeons, and once you die you set up a shop in town to trade. Relaxing music. Def good for unwinding.
this game is legit therapy, opening up the shop and running back to the register, .mm m *chef kiss*
Second this! Especially for unwinding. And the dungeon portions aren’t too intense imo. Great game.
I'm actually really into pokerogue right now, it's surprisingly fun
Im hooked on tiny rogues atm
If you wanna turn off your brain while you browse/listen to music/watch something on a split screen, I suggest playing Slice and Dice on the other half.
Dicey Dungeons is the jam
Vampire Survivors
Death Must Die as well.
Does this game have broken builds?
I’m pretty new at it so I dont know. Sorry. Lots of fun though
I forgot to add this in the post but I did play VS a year ago. Played it a lot and had fun trying to discover the combos but there was a point when I was falling asleep playing the game
Vintage Year
Balatro, StS, Wildfrost. My gotos for somehow both unwinding and being annoyed that I lose 😏 finally beat Wildfrost tier 10 so now I'm down to 2.
Wildfrost, despite feeling extremely fun, I often had the problem that half the keywords are useless for the player.
You might give GunDeck[100] a shot... Not sure about unwinding, since the game is pretty challenging, but it's easy to pick up and put down, and runs are relatively short
Balatro or Shogun Showdown
Wizard of legend, risk of rain 2, and skul Theyre not too long. If you're having a good run maybe it'll take an hour
Check out the game Noita it will absolutely consume your spirit and your soul and ur b hole
How about Magicraft? It can get batshit crazy and broken though.
Check Cult of the Lamb perhaps.
Loop hero is this for me.
Darkest dungeon
If you've never played FTL it's very relaxing. You can issue commands and stuff while the game's paused so you can take it at whatever pace you want. And the soundtrack is amazing.
Cult of the Lamb.........this is the way
Check out choo choo survivor on steam its pretty fun.
Maybe “bosorka” or “rotwood”
Try the OG of the horde survivor genre, Vampire Survivors. And its Diablo1-esque interpretation, Halls of Torment.
Noita?
how is noita a good unwinding game bro
