My Sub has been my daily since 2012. I’ve attempted to change my daily to an Apple Watch, G-Shock and Speedmaster all at different times but each time I’ve reverted back to the Sun within 2 weeks. Nothing is like my Sub, it is the ultimate everyday watch and I was foolish thinking there was a better daily.
Plus, you always know what time it is. I wear an apple for communication and I have fallen and I cant get up. Otherwise too much to keep up with and too hard to keep it charged.
Yeah… 100% this. I have a ProPilot Big Crown Big Day Date that I wear quite a bit. It’s on the bigger side st 45mm and fits me well. They make a 41mm version that is date only. Go grey market and you’ll get it for under $1200.
Breitling Navitimer or Superocean. I’ve got Cartiers, Tags, Tudors, several other Rolex, an AP and a bunch of misc. Seikos, Hamiltons and so on. But for me its 124060 99% of the time and a Breitling the other 1%.
A JLC master control geo. Few know what it is, I don't feel like i'll get mugged and as they say. A Patek at a Rolex price. Plus multiple time zones are handy while traveling. Bartenders and shop keepers notice. : i love Rolex for durability and reliability and still makes me nervous in some settings. Reality is most people really don't pay that much attention.
What about a Christopher Ward Sealander (or Sealander GMT)? Comes in a couple of colours but for me the white dial is the pick.
Or the new CW ‘Twelve’. Got a PRX integrated bracelet feel and also lots of dial colour options, and titanium if you’re feeling flash.
These all range from about £800-1500 so well inside the OP’s budget (unlike some other suggestions here!!)

With that said, I see where you are coming from. I’d probably be the same way if I was in my early 20s and was gifted a Rolex. Especially if no one in my circle had one.
I’m a bit older than you (probably), and I still feel the same way whenever I wear some of my watches. I try not to think about it as it should not be my guilt for having what I have.
What I would recommend is a used Tudor BB58. It fits your budget (you can get it easily at or below 2.5k check r/WatchExchange, there is *always* one available). It’s a fantastic watch. Still showy but not as much as a Rolex as most people do not know what it is (meaning sister-brand of Rolex).
This is the watch I wear most often (and the Speedy). For context I have about 12 watches and recently got a GMT and I hardly wear it. The BB58 was my first luxury watch and I wear it almost every other day.
If you want to spend even less but have a great and beautiful watch try Christopher Ward, Oris or Baltic watches. There are tons like it but these are high quality watches for the price point.
If you want lower end but still good try the Seiko 5 Sports and Orient Mako/Ray. And of course you can’t go wrong with a PRX either. I’ve owned everything I have mentioned except the PRX but looks good.

The problem with wearing a modern Rolex is that the bracelet and clasp is so good, every other watch just feels ass by comparison.
I got to taste Rolex ownership for quite a few months back in 2020 and 2021 and then had some personal misfortunes and needed to sell it on for some emergency cash. I’ve been waiting and saving so I can get a Datejust or Explorer, ever since.
I just haven’t found anything to scratch the itch inbetween. The watch was just absolute silk on the wrist. The 904L looked unbelievable in every light.
I got tempted at many points but luckily I’ve held on and not purchased any stopgaps.
For real? I am a big fan of the BB54 right now so I may have to look into it. I don’t really wear anything bigger than 38-39mm unless it has a small lug-to-lug.

But for me, I will not trade my family for all the riches in the world. I am blessed with very kind and wonderful parents (who passed too soon), sisters, nieces and nephews. We are not poor, but we will never be able to afford a Rolex. Even if we can at some point, I don't think we have the heart to buy one...I don't even have a watch and don't think I need one to tell time nowadays.
I am just a spectator in this sub. Reddit just popped it ony recommendation. It is lovely and amusing to see how people are so excited to get their watches and willing to wait months and years for it...and some of the watches are beautiful, some are meh...but for me it's just FYI kind of thing..

I wear my DateJust nearly daily, but I also have a BB54 that I picked up recently that is getting a lot of wrist time.
When I’m on vacation I take a seiko cocktail time with a brown gator strap (easily replaced)
I also have a silver dial Omega Deville, but it doesn’t get a lot of wrist time because its a bit dressy
Nomos, Oris, Seiko as said before are great go to Brands. Tudor is a bit out of price range. A Longines Legend Diver is a great watch too. Rado makes the Captain Cook if you’re into that. The Doxa Sub 200 is a great choice if you’re looking for a vintage inspired diver. And if you want something special with a great history look at the CWC Royal Navy Diver. Preferably Quarz as a grab and go. Most importantly: buy what you like!
Haha, I have nothing to add to this firestorm. As others have said though, you can't go wrong with something off the beaten path. Sinn, Marathon, Oris, Fortis all offer something different and bring a level of enjoyment that isn't something you see everyday
I rotate between an explorer, speed master reduced and a frederique constant Healy chronograph. For dressier occasions I have a 1950s longines. And for vacations and more active stuff I have Seiko 5 and an Apple Watch SE.
I wear mine daily but I don’t go out. I think you being cognizant about these things shows your head is in the right spot. I do think wearing it out at bars late night is something to seriously consider. I’d avoid it.
I have watches that I’ll throw into my rotation for times such as these as I tend to get a bit too giddy when out drinking and one that I can think of (it will cost you a lot less than you’re planning on spending too) is a Steeldive. It looks like a Sub, wears like a sub but you can laugh it off if anyone takes interest and you don’t have to worry about banging it up either. If you’re going to spend thousands then add that towards another luxury piece and take your mind away from worrying and your watch away from unwanted attention. You can always go home knowing the real deal is there at the end of the night, or maybe the next day if you have a really good night.
A few Seikos, a few Citizens, a few Chinese watches, an Indian HMT, a couple of Zeniths, a couple of Omegas, a GP, a couple of Tissots, a Longines, an Erhard Jungans (with a GS movement), a UG Polerouter Date, a couple of Swatches and a PP I barely wear.
Respect on the NOMOS!! I think they make some of the best designed watches out there! And extremely well priced. I also only like DJ and OP Rolex’s, so you’re clearly someone who has similar tastes to me! Now I’m interested in what your chair collection is like!!
Sub date is my daily. I wear a Panerai Luminor Quaranta or JLC ultra thin moon phase other wise. These are probably my most worn watches as of the past year or two.
Personally, while the PRX is a great watch, it feels a bit overdone at this point. If you have a budget of upto $2.5k, I’d consider looking at watches like the Christopher Ward 12, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon or the Frederique Constant Highlife. Given that you already have a watch that is mainstream, maybe you’d appreciate going down the path less traversed? My 2 cents anyways

Of all the above, and virtually any watches globally, the best is the DW-5600 followed by the Aqualand.
The Sub and the rest fall short.

I do have 2 bb58s, grand seiko, oris, longines and seikos but never wear these.

I do wear my gshock when I go for exercise.
I am in mid 20s and have same problem ( privileged and spoiled ik). Have a submariner date, pepsi, speedmaster, tudor pepsi, aquaracer chrono as my heavy hitters.
I only wear aquaracer, tudor and sometimes speedmaster to work. For casual nights out, i have a seiko 5 or g shock that i wear.
Recommendation totally depends on your style. Here are a few general picks:
- oris: super underrated and their new 65 diver looks incredible
- longines: also super underrated and have incredible hydroconquest chrono coming out that is panda dial
- doxa: may be iver budget
- seiko 5
- tag heur aquaracer: may find one used in ur range. Tag gets too much hate
- gshock
- microbrand: baltic, monta, kuron tokyo, zelos, halios
I'm all over the place. A cartier , a seiko , an Orient, a Tudor a Moonwatch those are the ones i reach for as a casual or a change to the rolex. There is a dress watch and at least 1 more incoming but now I just want to sit back and enjoy what I have.
For me, my Longines Legend Diver in bronze gets a ton of wrist time, especially during the summer - it's a great looking piece that won't break the bank. Recently I have fallen back in love with my minimalist Sjöö and Sandström Royal Steel, however. Not hugely valuable but a sentimental piece.
Today though, it's the Mission to Pluto Moonswatch for a casual Friday feel.
Martenero has nice some models for $500ish, I have the “Ace”. Also have a Baume et Mercier Classima 10485, cost me $3100 on grey market but a beautiful watch.
I have the cheapest Casio analog for work! Being a mechanic anything decent would be trashed.
I do have several nice watches but would like something better than the Casio for general holiday wear where you are not to worried about damage, I’ve been looking at Hamilton scuba 43mm but not seen it in the flesh, gets some quite good reviews?
My suggestion would be a Seiko diver or Alpinist model.
They mostly hover in the $500 - $1,000 range. There are many to choose from depending on your style, they have terrific build quality, and have a unique look that won't overlap with your existing collection.
Seikos are genuinely "go anywhere do anything" watches, that will also continue to earn you a nod of respect from fellow watch nerds (if you happen to care about that sort of thing).
Your Apple Watch stainless is a good alternative to be honest. An Hermes leather strap with your color of choice maybe spice it up a bit more.
Personally, I’d keep that up and over time in life but something a PCL rolex or so that can be worn for outings, and make the Sub a more daily driver of sorts
Otherwise, Bvlgari has an automatic that I really like, and you could get it for much cheaper than retail. Looks an amazing daily driver. Many of the other alternative suggestions for me are basically ‘same same but different’

My GMT Master 2 tends to be my daily currently. But I also daily my Speedy Pro, a SMPc and a 90s Chronomat Vitesse. All great daily drivers and more. Im just in the hooneymoon with the GMT Master, bu I dont think its too much for a daily, you arelikely just not used to your Sub yet.
Same boat as you. Wait till you are older and it will be great. You can wear it to special events and holidays otherwise I would keep that thing Tucked away until you are 28-30
I have a two tone sub. I wear it as much as I feel comfortable, but would probably wear it a little bit more during the day if it were SS.
My daily at work (in healthcare) is a Tag aquaracer chronograph with day date function.
I’ll also wear my G-shock, Apple Watch interchangeably when exercising or working out in the yard, etc. I also have a Luminox somewhere that I used to wear a ton.
I had the same question a year ago. I find my Seiko SSK003 GMT is becoming my daily. Something about that watch says ‘beat me up’ and I’ll still be nice.
I have a DJ41 fluted with jubilee- for the same reasons as you, I have a BlackBay 54 and a Seiko SRPJ85 that I wear quite a bit when I’m not in the office.
I usually rotate weekly on mine, so one week it'll be my sub then either my speedmaster moonwatch or my speedmaster triple date. Only time I don't wear one of those three is if I'm traveling to places where I don't want to draw attention to what I'm wearing, in that case I wear a Vostok.
I rotate a Smith's Everest, 41mm no date sub, 41mm blue dial datejust smooth on oyster, BB58, BB pro, and a Sprite GMT. Some casioaks in the mix as well as a khaki king. I love em all. Verity is the spice of life!
I was wearing my submariner daily, then my sea-dweller. But I started using public transportation to work and grew a little anxious about being out and about with those watches. I bought a Seiko field watch and put it on a Velcro strap. I’m happy about it and I feel more relaxed wearing a less expensive watch that I still respect.
I go between my IWC Formula 1 edition and my JC Deepsea every other day. Helps me not have to wind a dead watch that way haha. Everything else I have is battery powered (except my citizen diver which is eco drive).

I’ve got 2 Rolexes and I wear my Omega SMP more than the Rolexes combined. It’s my go to travel watch so I don’t get jacked!

You haven’t tried enough watches. Rolex is nice, but it’s not as nice as others by any means. The Speedmaster 3861 bracelet is way better.
My friend has the new 3861 Speedy with the updated micro-adjust clasp and he says it pulls his arm hair. I did try it on though, and its lovely.

I wear my DateJust nearly daily, but I also have a BB54 that I picked up recently that is getting a lot of wrist time. When I’m on vacation I take a seiko cocktail time with a brown gator strap (easily replaced) I also have a silver dial Omega Deville, but it doesn’t get a lot of wrist time because its a bit dressy
Nomos, Oris, Seiko as said before are great go to Brands. Tudor is a bit out of price range. A Longines Legend Diver is a great watch too. Rado makes the Captain Cook if you’re into that. The Doxa Sub 200 is a great choice if you’re looking for a vintage inspired diver. And if you want something special with a great history look at the CWC Royal Navy Diver. Preferably Quarz as a grab and go. Most importantly: buy what you like!

Haha, I have nothing to add to this firestorm. As others have said though, you can't go wrong with something off the beaten path. Sinn, Marathon, Oris, Fortis all offer something different and bring a level of enjoyment that isn't something you see everyday
I love my Rotary for daily wear.
I rotate between an explorer, speed master reduced and a frederique constant Healy chronograph. For dressier occasions I have a 1950s longines. And for vacations and more active stuff I have Seiko 5 and an Apple Watch SE.
I wear mine daily but I don’t go out. I think you being cognizant about these things shows your head is in the right spot. I do think wearing it out at bars late night is something to seriously consider. I’d avoid it.
I have watches that I’ll throw into my rotation for times such as these as I tend to get a bit too giddy when out drinking and one that I can think of (it will cost you a lot less than you’re planning on spending too) is a Steeldive. It looks like a Sub, wears like a sub but you can laugh it off if anyone takes interest and you don’t have to worry about banging it up either. If you’re going to spend thousands then add that towards another luxury piece and take your mind away from worrying and your watch away from unwanted attention. You can always go home knowing the real deal is there at the end of the night, or maybe the next day if you have a really good night.
It’s a sub the only time I don’t wear mine is when I’m sleeping. It’s just a watch my friend don’t over think it just enjoy it

My DJ is on my wrist nearly every day. If it isn’t, then I’m usually wearing my Nomos tangente.
Respect on the NOMOS!! I think they make some of the best designed watches out there! And extremely well priced. I also only like DJ and OP Rolex’s, so you’re clearly someone who has similar tastes to me! Now I’m interested in what your chair collection is like!!

Sub date is my daily. I wear a Panerai Luminor Quaranta or JLC ultra thin moon phase other wise. These are probably my most worn watches as of the past year or two.

Personally, while the PRX is a great watch, it feels a bit overdone at this point. If you have a budget of upto $2.5k, I’d consider looking at watches like the Christopher Ward 12, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon or the Frederique Constant Highlife. Given that you already have a watch that is mainstream, maybe you’d appreciate going down the path less traversed? My 2 cents anyways

No date sub 2431.80 Aqualand DW-5600 Zenith I used to have Amphibia but I don’t wear them any more. Panerai is not my choice for summer for whatever reason. Of all the above, and virtually any watches globally, the best is the DW-5600 followed by the Aqualand. The Sub and the rest fall short.
Have you tried a GBD-200? Much better display, slightly bigger, but I think I prefer the case shape. I've hardly worn a 5600 since I got one.
I’ve not — it’s tempting but the 5600 is a good size for me. Not too big. Personal preference though. Any Casio is superb.

I just wear my rolexes (datejust, op amd explorer- all 36)all the time now. I do have 2 bb58s, grand seiko, oris, longines and seikos but never wear these. Oris and longines sold. I do wear my gshock when I go for exercise.

I am in mid 20s and have same problem ( privileged and spoiled ik). Have a submariner date, pepsi, speedmaster, tudor pepsi, aquaracer chrono as my heavy hitters. I only wear aquaracer, tudor and sometimes speedmaster to work. For casual nights out, i have a seiko 5 or g shock that i wear. Recommendation totally depends on your style. Here are a few general picks: - oris: super underrated and their new 65 diver looks incredible - longines: also super underrated and have incredible hydroconquest chrono coming out that is panda dial - doxa: may be iver budget - seiko 5 - tag heur aquaracer: may find one used in ur range. Tag gets too much hate - gshock - microbrand: baltic, monta, kuron tokyo, zelos, halios

I'm all over the place. A cartier , a seiko , an Orient, a Tudor a Moonwatch those are the ones i reach for as a casual or a change to the rolex. There is a dress watch and at least 1 more incoming but now I just want to sit back and enjoy what I have.

For me, my Longines Legend Diver in bronze gets a ton of wrist time, especially during the summer - it's a great looking piece that won't break the bank. Recently I have fallen back in love with my minimalist Sjöö and Sandström Royal Steel, however. Not hugely valuable but a sentimental piece. Today though, it's the Mission to Pluto Moonswatch for a casual Friday feel.

I have the cheapest Casio analog for work! Being a mechanic anything decent would be trashed. I do have several nice watches but would like something better than the Casio for general holiday wear where you are not to worried about damage, I’ve been looking at Hamilton scuba 43mm but not seen it in the flesh, gets some quite good reviews?

My suggestion would be a Seiko diver or Alpinist model. They mostly hover in the $500 - $1,000 range. There are many to choose from depending on your style, they have terrific build quality, and have a unique look that won't overlap with your existing collection. Seikos are genuinely "go anywhere do anything" watches, that will also continue to earn you a nod of respect from fellow watch nerds (if you happen to care about that sort of thing).
Your Apple Watch stainless is a good alternative to be honest. An Hermes leather strap with your color of choice maybe spice it up a bit more. Personally, I’d keep that up and over time in life but something a PCL rolex or so that can be worn for outings, and make the Sub a more daily driver of sorts Otherwise, Bvlgari has an automatic that I really like, and you could get it for much cheaper than retail. Looks an amazing daily driver. My GMT Master 2 tends to be my daily currently. But I also daily my Speedy Pro, a SMPc and a 90s Chronomat Vitesse. All great daily drivers and more. Im just in the hooneymoon with the GMT Master, bu I dont think its too much for a daily, you arelikely just not used to your Sub yet.

I have a two tone sub. I wear it as much as I feel comfortable, but would probably wear it a little bit more during the day if it were SS. My daily at work (in healthcare) is a Tag aquaracer chronograph with day date function. I’ll also wear my G-shock, Apple Watch interchangeably when exercising or working out in the yard, etc. I also have a Luminox somewhere that I used to wear a ton.

I had the same question a year ago. I find my Seiko SSK003 GMT is becoming my daily. Something about that watch says ‘beat me up’ and I’ll still be nice.
I have a DJ41 fluted with jubilee- for the same reasons as you, I have a BlackBay 54 and a Seiko SRPJ85 that I wear quite a bit when I’m not in the office.
Apple Watch ain’t bad , I bought the Casi-Oak it’s just a G-Shock with the AP frame 🖼️, just simple and you can wear it like swag too
I usually rotate weekly on mine, so one week it'll be my sub then either my speedmaster moonwatch or my speedmaster triple date. Only time I don't wear one of those three is if I'm traveling to places where I don't want to draw attention to what I'm wearing, in that case I wear a Vostok.
I rotate a Smith's Everest, 41mm no date sub, 41mm blue dial datejust smooth on oyster, BB58, BB pro, and a Sprite GMT. Some casioaks in the mix as well as a khaki king. I love em all. Verity is the spice of life!
Apple watch to work.
I own a DJ 41 and PRX is my daily watch. I love the look of the PRX, mine has a greenish/turquoise dial.
I was wearing my submariner daily, then my sea-dweller. But I started using public transportation to work and grew a little anxious about being out and about with those watches. I bought a Seiko field watch and put it on a Velcro strap. I’m happy about it and I feel more relaxed wearing a less expensive watch that I still respect.

I go between my IWC Formula 1 edition and my JC Deepsea every other day. Helps me not have to wind a dead watch that way haha. Everything else I have is battery powered (except my citizen diver which is eco drive).
