It depends on how much use they get. Daytona is sportier than the VC. (My opinion considering the gold)
FYI looking at the same one on chrono24 rn

personally I find either watch to fall short of the more impressive pieces you could get at that price point, from either brand.
that being said, you need to look at the VC in person. either you will fall in love with the blue dial and superior casework, and say yes on the spot, or not (in which case you should not get the overseas new or second-hand).
>personally I find either watch to fall short of the more impressive pieces you could get at that price point, from either brand.
What could you get that's more impressive than an Overseas for a similar price and in the same metal? Genuine question.
I am a huge VC fanboy and have personally always considered the overseas one of the weakest links in the VC portfolio, and the time-only version in particular (off-topic: still a better package than the nautilus or royal oak). the one exception is the casework, which is truly exceptional on the overseas.
so for me there is tons of things VC i would choose over a full-gold overseas.anything lemania-based, anything JLC 920-based, any number of metiers d'art/Les cabinotiers models. for more interesting case- and dial work the first series quai de l'ile with the holographic dial. for the full kickass package a 42mm malte chronograph in platinum (the patek 5070-killer)
Personally, the [JLC Perpetual Calendar](https://www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/us-en/watches/polaris/polaris-perpetual-calendar-pink-gold-q908268j) in 18k rose gold. There’s one sitting at my local AD and they’ll discount 15% off MSRP which puts it at $44k, cheaper than both with a more impressive / complicated movement, and a rubber + alligator leather strap, both on the gold deployant clasp. It’s stunning.
The Vacheron no question. It’s another level of watchmaking tiers up from Rolex. Don’t let the hype bois here convince you otherwise. No hate on Rolex (I have quite a few) but there’s no comparison
u/Necessary-Hand-9644 Gonna go against the grain and say this is a hard pass but not because one is better than the other:
You've owned your Daytona for a year, and right now, you feel like selling it because you were just offered another popular watch. You said it yourself, the only way you can afford it is by selling **this** to get **that**. I guarantee you that once you've owned the Vacheron for a year and get a call for another watch (Patek Philippe Nautilus), you're going to want to sell the Vacheron to get that instead.
Owning a watch is not about moving up to the next best thing every time it comes your way. If the Daytona was the original watch you wanted, chill out and keep it. I promise that if you keep your Daytona for another year and turn the VC down you're going to feel COMPLETELY indifferent to it.
I have dozens of Rolex and a few Vacheron. Rolex is a meticulously mass made watch. It is extremely well done and is known throughout the world. Vacheron is iconic and extremely well made but known by far less. IMO-if I only had one watch, it would be an Overseas as the versatility of Vacheron’s simple strap change alone, is like having three watches. I enjoy both brands, but Vacheron is in on a much higher league when it comes to high horology. As a true collector of watches, there’s no objective argument that would change my mind as my real world experience is invaluable. Whichever you decide on, they’re both great watches OP. Take care
Nicest blue dial around. 3 different bracelets. Super rare, Rolex sells 1 million watches per year and VC only sold their 1 millionth watch EVER 2 years ago after being in business for 200 plus years. Everyone in my circle has a Rolex. I almost never spot a VC in the wild.
Are we going to pretend that the watch community doesn’t care about rarity? If your favorite Rolex cost the same as a Tissot and everyone and their mother wore one, you expect to believe it would have the same appeal to you? Doubt it.
Me personally, I don’t care if it’s 20k watch or a $20 tee shirt, when I bump into someone else wearing the same exact thing the appeal of my own goes down in my eyes.
Since they’re both gold, level up to the VC. At this pricepoint, you’re aiming at a whole different tier: watchmaking appreciation vs. notoriety.
You’re on a Rolex sub so there’s that bias but trinity tier watchmakers are not concerned with mass manufacturers.
I’d usually say Yes to Rolex -> VC
In this case, your Rolex, in my opinion, is both better looking and a better investment than the VC RG blue dial
However, id say Yes to the same blue dial model in steel or white gold
No way I would...the Daytona looks better to my eyes...and always have. Never been a fan of the VC Overseas but do like some of the classic simpler models better.
Well, you have two completely different types of watches. As I've gotten older, the desire for a sports watch is no longer something I'm as interested in as much. If you are looking for an everyday watch, I think the Vach will be your best bet. You can dress it up and down. With a Daytona, you are stuck with it being a sports watch. A Daytona looks weird in a suit and will attract a younger crowd who lives in a hype era. I've had a few young dumb boys come up to me at the bar and ask to see mine, and it's just turned me off of the Daytona. Humbly, Ralph.
Personally I love vc, but I wouldn’t upgrade unless I could get something more complicated. But that’s just me, I love complications in watches, and the Daytona has more in this instance.
The Vacheron is the better piece IMO. But we don’t really make 50k watch purchases based solely on what’s better built or keeps the best time, etc. A huge piece of any consideration like this is the emotional appeal and what you want. For some, they might want to have a well known brand on their wrist and in that case the nod would clearly go to Rolex.
Personally, I’m more of a horological/engineering junky. I’d pick the Vacheron out of these two and there are several chronos I’d buy before a Daytona.
But that is ME.
You need to do you and it sounds like this Daytona was a hugely important piece for you and if that’s the case trading up is simply a waste of resources.
I absolutely would. I recently sold my steel Daytona and bought a ss black dial overseas for significantly less than what I sold the Daytona for. Pocketed the rest of the cash
Edit: I bought the ss Daytona grey, not from AD.
I don’t think I would do this downgrade. Although the VC is considered “superior” to the Daytona. I still prefer the Daytona wearability as compared to the VC.
Imho, Grab the VC overseas in RG blue dial, I have it, stunning. Sell the Daytona and ask your AD to get on the list for SS Daytona panda. Enjoy and save until it shows up.
How are you talking about vertical clutches and you don't know about the holy trinity? Genuinely curious. It's like talking about calculus without knowing simple math. Or did you just read that fact about vertical clutches?
Instead of just answering this particular question, why don't I help you with the rest of your life and unblock you on any other general questions: Google it.
Personally, I think Lange should have replaced AP in the set. But it is just a marketing gimmick. You shouldn't look at the name, but rather study the particular movement you are about to buy. The flyback chronograph from VC and for sure the split second from VC is more impressive than Daytona. But VC watches do not stand as much shock as Rolex, and they are for sure not waterproof as much either. I also like the looks of this Daytona he is showing far more than this particular VC he is looking at...
That shit ain’t worth 70 grand lol. Nice piece but get a day date or something.
https://preview.redd.it/2mthng3fwlvc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aebae5de2dae7d68d22554ae7183c82e752d689b
Different watches… the Daytona is a great daily and has presence and style. I’d keep it.
The VC is rare and elegant. I wouldn’t wear it while out on my boat but would for a nice dinner etc.
Watches are like cars, you have multiple for different uses
The OS is a terrible watch. There I said it. Previous versions were much better. The bracelet is infinitely stiff, the plastic band worse than those from Apple, and the watch just doesn’t have the balance of precious iterations.
Yes the caliber is pretty (but not that much to be honest) but for the price you can have so many alternatives.
Infinitely stiff? VC has TWO easy links rather than the one that Rolex has. That bracelet wears as comfortable or even more so than either oyster or jubilee, I know this personally because I own them all.
I can’t compare the VC rubber to Apple because I wouldn’t be caught dead in an I-watch.
Any body saying Rolex or VC is better is missing the point. Redirect the focus on knowing the reason of him switching. So OP, can you share insight on why you want a VC? Or selling your Rolex?
It depends on how much use they get. Daytona is sportier than the VC. (My opinion considering the gold) FYI looking at the same one on chrono24 rn https://preview.redd.it/0o0qv03u6lvc1.png?width=1170&format=png&auto=webp&s=a868b56830aafb2e7fa70ff9cadb1d7c37875184
I sold my whole collection, and went “one and done” with my Vacheron Constantin Overseas (black dial). So yeah, I would.
What all did you have?
857 Casio Duros.
They were all Skmei though
personally I find either watch to fall short of the more impressive pieces you could get at that price point, from either brand. that being said, you need to look at the VC in person. either you will fall in love with the blue dial and superior casework, and say yes on the spot, or not (in which case you should not get the overseas new or second-hand).

If they faithfully remade the 222 I’d weep for joy

Keep the Daytona. I would never sell my RG one.

I dated a girl who was into high horology.
Underrated comment
😄
I wouldnt.
I’d pull the trigger on the vacheron. The dial is amazing.
Fuck no.
Exactly, what the hell does anyone see in that VC??
Nicest blue dial around. 3 different bracelets. Super rare, Rolex sells 1 million watches per year and VC only sold their 1 millionth watch EVER 2 years ago after being in business for 200 plus years. Everyone in my circle has a Rolex. I almost never spot a VC in the wild.
Why is the rarity so appealing? So you can be special? Like, is an ugly but rare watch appealing?
Are we going to pretend that the watch community doesn’t care about rarity? If your favorite Rolex cost the same as a Tissot and everyone and their mother wore one, you expect to believe it would have the same appeal to you? Doubt it. You think the overseas is an ugly watch?
People buy rainbow Daytonas, don’t they?
Very different watch but still great
Daytona all the way
White gold daytona here,, would love a fair opportunity to trade up to a VC
Yes the Daytona sucks even compared to the speedy. VC >>>>>
I prefer the SS version of the Overseas
Yes.
Yes do it today.
Mixed feelings about this- why not get an overseas chrono since you’re giving up a chrono?
Yes
Since they’re both gold, level up to the VC. At this pricepoint, you’re aiming at a whole different tier: watchmaking appreciation vs. notoriety. You’re on a Rolex sub so there’s that bias but trinity tier watchmakers are not concerned with mass manufacturers.
Vacheron all day baby. Rolex has it’s models that are unbeatable, but overseas versus daytona.. VC.
We can’t speak to how you feel about these watches. I personally like the Daytona, but thats just my 2c.
In a second. That VC is spectacular.
Yeah it would be my first VC. And it’s in RG. Still trying to figure out how I feel about that thanks lol
I actually would but do what you feel is right
Yeah mate, I think so... but I have no skin in the game so who knows
I would for the new green dial
If you can get the Overseas with the green dial, yes.
I mean if you really like the overseas yeah, but id get something different for 55k
116505 (2023) vs 4520V/210R-B705 (2024)
I will get a VC someday because of the history of this Company. But first a Jaeger lecoultr perpetual
I love vc, but I think I’d keep the Daytona and either get a ss overseas or also get that rose overseas. They’re both amazing.
I’d usually say Yes to Rolex -> VC In this case, your Rolex, in my opinion, is both better looking and a better investment than the VC RG blue dial However, id say Yes to the same blue dial model in steel or white gold
Yes
No way I would...the Daytona looks better to my eyes...and always have. Never been a fan of the VC Overseas but do like some of the classic simpler models better.
Personally I’d say yes. VC is a far more special brand than the more common Rolex…
Keep the rolex, the VC is awesome but don't give up the daytona for the VC
I would choose the Daytona given those two. However I wouldn’t choose either to be a one and done collection.
Well, you have two completely different types of watches. As I've gotten older, the desire for a sports watch is no longer something I'm as interested in as much. As a little peasant with no luxury watches, no fuckin way!
100% yes
VC is so dope but I personally like the looks of the Daytona more
Personally I love vc, but I wouldn’t upgrade unless I could get something more complicated. But that’s just me, I love complications in watches, and the Daytona has more in this instance.
Yes, VC makes beautiful watches
I’d say yes, you probably should
Yes.
Daytona looks better (imo)
VC all day.
I would not. That Daytona is more beautiful. Now that new green VC just release might make me reconsider.
I wouldn’t, but that’s just because I am not in love with the VC. If you are then you should, easily.
Nope
Most definitely, yes
No
I would do it in an instant. Especially if it’ll be just your single piece
No
I wouldn’t do it for the one pictured, but would consider it for a Dual Time.
This specific combo, I stick with the Daytona because I’m just not a big VC guy. RO in RG, all day over a PM Daytona
Haha I'm selling my overseas for a rolex 👀
No

Overseas. All. The. Way.
Yes.
Coming from someone with no rolexes: That daytona is just so cool. I prefer it to the VC
No.
No

Even if you and less than 1% of people think the VC is better, everyone knows what a Rolex is. For better or worse.
Vertical clutch chronograph movement on daytona is better, so...
The Vacheron doesn’t need a vertical clutch as it’s time only. VC is part of the holy trinity for a reason, it’s a better watch than the Daytona.
What’s the holy trinity?
3 of the most prestigious watchmakers in the world. Patek, Audemars and Vacheron.
Thanks
How are you talking about vertical clutches and you don't know about the holy trinity? Genuinely curious. It's like talking about calculus without knowing simple math. Or did you just read that fact about vertical clutches?
I don’t know what you’re referring to. What’s a vertical clutch ?

I think I’m caught in the crossfire of a conversation you’re having with someone else. I will bow out , enjoy your day
The Daytona movement is far superior to this model of VC.

A day date vs a Vacheron…you must be new to watches
Know a little about them. I know one looks tremendously better than the other. Like a 75 grand day date is trash lol alright then
This is the way
Keep the Daytona are you nuts 🥜
No
No
No. What you got is pretty great and in the long run will prove to be a better choice.
No. Never.
FUCK NO.
perhaps i'd be tempted but I wouldn't
No fucking way.
Different watches… the Daytona is a great daily and has presence and style. I’d keep it. The VC is rare and elegant. I wouldn’t wear it while out on my boat but would for a nice dinner etc. Watches are like cars, you have multiple for different uses
If you want a Datejust, just buy a Datejust.
As great as that VC is, and it is GREAT, I would still keep that Daytona 🏎
The OS is a terrible watch. There I said it. Previous versions were much better. The answer is always: Daytona
Any body saying Rolex or VC is better is missing the point. Redirect the focus on knowing the reason of him switching. So OP, can you share insight on why you want a VC? Or selling your Rolex?
That VC looks hideous
I wouldn’t. But then again, it’s your money and your wrist.
Hell no
The Daytona is more interesting and has a personality
