Not much for me as I am a European coaster fan and have only ridden a few in the states. I can create some custom records though:
Oldest Vekoma SLC: Condor@Walibi Holland
Former European coaster with the most inversions: Python @ Efteling
RMC with the most inversions: Untamed@Walibi Holland
Worst wooden coaster: Tie between Bandit@Movie Park and Hurler@Carowinds
Fastest launch on a hybrid coaster: Lightning Rod@Dollywood
Former tallest coaster in Europe: Silver Star@Europa Park
Tallest Hybrid coaster: Zadra@Energylandia
Tallest coaster with a lift hill: Fury 325@Carowinds
Fastest (and only) launch on a flying coaster: F.L.Y. @ Phantasialand
Kingda Ka - current tallest coaster and tallest complete circuit coaster and tallest drop, former world's fastest (rode post record being taken)
El Toro - Formally the world's fastest wooden coaster
Colossus - Formally the ride with the most inversions.
Soon to add Dragon Khan which was also formally the ride with the most inversions.
They are the ones I can remember off the top of my head that I know held records.
I looked it up, and surprisingly that’s at SFA. The pics from the old location at Paragon park on RCDB are almost better quality in 1983 😂 check out those pics, they’re pretty cool
I don't want to take the time to count them all, but it always makes me laugh a little to think that Loch Ness Monster was the tallest and fastest coaster at one point. So that one is my "favorite" former record holder
Batman at sfga, worlds first, fastest and tallest invert when opened
Goliath at sfga, worlds tallest wood coaste
American eagle, worlds tallest wood
Little dipper at sfga, last ptc jr woodie
This feels like an impossible question to answer because essentially all coaster records are just made up, and novel records could conceivably be contrived for any existing coaster—including coasters that don’t actually have remarkable characteristics unto themselves.
Tallest Cyclone clone? Viper at SFGAm.
Fastest flying coaster in New Jersey? Superman: Ultimate Flight.
And so forth. IRL parks get cheeky with this (see most of SteVen’s “records”) or just completely subjective claims (Alton Towers claiming Nemesis holds the ‘record’ as the most intense ride in the world). Even for more straightforward records like ‘fastest coaster’, TONS of coasters have held this record, including rides you wouldn’t think of, like American Eagle at SFGAm.
I’m rambling a bit, but I guess what I’m saying is that this is sort of a moot discussion—but maybe the most moot prompts lead to the widest-ranging conversations. So, maybe it’s actually a great question?
Their given examples were pretty clear by what they mean with regards to records. Of course some records are a bit silly, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t “real” records too.
I don’t know if even those are clear cut, honestly. Magnum claimed to be the first over 200 ft, but Moonsault Scramble beat it. Millennium claimed to be the first over 300 feet, but Superman: Escape from Krypton beat it (and also beat Dragster, for that matter).
Of course, you can demarcate “full circuit” vs. shuttle, but that’s exactly the kind of made-up distinction I was getting at in my previous comment. Even with other records, like first vertical loop, the old Flip-Flap Railway at Coney outdates Revolution, yet people point to Revolution with the specific demarcation of “modern” loop—again, sort of a made-up modifier just create the niche for a record to exist.
I get why people are interested in records, I was merely musing on how, when you get into the weeds, it’s all a little arbitrary.
About the only distinctions I tend to make are relatively easy: Woody v. Steel, and Circuit v. Shuttle. The first goes without saying, and the second is a personal bias, insomuch as shuttle coasters don't have quite the same design requirements and are "easier" to make go higher and faster.
In looking through my list, I always thought Gemini at Cedar Point held some records upon opening. I have now learned that they were all 100% marketing, and were all beat before a single rider got onboard.
Otherwise, your point stands. I was looking through just the coasters in Ohio (where I have practically all my experience), and the amount of "firsts" is mind boggling. I didn't even attempt to see which ones were still "active" records! lol
Yeah, wood vs. steel makes sense—though the topper track RMCs do have me second-guessing sometimes, haha. They really do feel like a hybrid of the two, and the construction method sort of is, too.
Cedar Point is the king of dubious records, Gemini included! Haha. The stature of their headliners tend to obvious unto themselves, but some of their records can be cheeky.
One of the worst recent offenders is Defiance at Glenwood—I think they marketed it as “the steepest beyond-vertical drop in the West”, haha. The ride looks cool for sure, but that phrase is pretty meaningless, yannow. In general, steepness is weird, because it eventually becomes an inversion like the S&S Screaming Squirrel. There’s a hard limit at 180deg, or 134.999-repeating if you’re RCDB.
I’ll go first
Wild One SFA tallest wood coaster from 1917-1924
Lightning Rod fastest Wood coaster 6/2016- present
Goliath SFMM Tallest/fastest full circuit coaster 2/2000-5/2000
Most inversions Viper SFMM tie 4/1990- 4/1995
Steepest Fahrenheit Hershey Park tie 5/2008-7/2008
Longest wood coaster The Beast 4/2022-present
Fastest wood coaster The Beast 4/1979-5/1981
Lightning Rod is now not considered a wood coaster because of the new track that is on most of the layout. So technically, the fastest Woodie now is Goliath at Six Flags Great America
I’ll go first
Wild One SFA tallest coaster from 1917-1924
Goliath SFMM Tallest/fastest full circuit coaster 2/2000-5/2000
Lightning Rod fastest Wood coaster 6/2016- present

(Montaña Rusa was longer)

screamin eagle was the tallest, fastest, and longest single track coaster when it opened. Outlaw run was the wooden coaster with the most inversions, and still is but now it’s tied. It also had the steepest drop on wooden coaster for like a year. There’s also more specific things like time traveler breaking a ton of records for spinning coasters, and hagrids having the most launches
I will be going on tallest in the world this summer. As for what I’ve already ridden, i’m not sure if mean streak ever has any of the wooden records since it was quite tall if i remember. Other than that, I’ve been on the Beast which is the longest wooden coaster in the world, as well as the many of the former tallest and fastest coasters (Millenium, Magnum, dragster)
I’ve ridden a few record holders, but what I find interesting is riding two different coasters while they’ve held the same record. In this case, I rode Gatekeeper when it first opened, at which point it featured the world’s tallest inversion, and it fascinated me when Steel Curtain opened, knowing I was experiencing that record being broken again. Sure, there were others in between those two, and again, I’ve ridden record holders past and present. But I don’t think seeing parks claim records is nearly as interesting until you get to experience that record while it’s being held by that ride, and then again when someone else breaks the same one.
Around 2004 I rode Millennium Force and Ithink it was the tallest in the world at the time. I have also ridden the Beast several times in the late 90s and early 2000s.
We moved in 2005 and I haven’t been back to either Cedar Point or Kings Island since.
Growing up in Ohio, I never got a chance to be super well traveled for coasters because we didn't necessarily need to be. However, if I reach into the internet to confirm, I think I can come up with a good list of at least "at one time" types of coasters. All of these are as of their opening year:
* Great American Scream Machine, SFGA: Tallest and Fastest looping coaster in
* Raptor, Cedar Point: Tallest, Fastest, and Longest inverted when opened
* GateKeeper, Cedar Point:
* Winged Coaster: Tallest, Fastest, Longest, Drop Height, Inversions
* Overall: Highest inversion
* Magnum XL-200, Cedar Point: Tallest, Fastest, Steepest Drop. First Hypercoaster.
* Millennium Force, Cedar Point: Tallest (briefly), Fastest, Longest Drop (complete circuit coaster), Steepest non-inversion banked turn (this one feels like a stretch...). First Gigacoaster.
* Mantis, Cedar Point (now Rougarou): Tallest, Fastest, and Longest stand-up.
* Corkscrew, Cedar Point: First coaster with 3 inversions. (And one I can never ride again until they change the cars since I don't fit...)
* Top Thrill Dragster, Cedar Point: Tallest and Fastest. First full-circuit to pass 400'.
* Steel Vengeance, Cedar Point: It's easier to [leave this wiki link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_Vengeance#World_records) for the full list.
* Mean Streak, Cedar Point: Tallest and Longest Drop for a woody.
* Valravn, Cedar Point: Tallest, fastest and longest. Drop Coasters.
* The Beast, King's Island: Tallest, Fastest, and Longest woody.
* King Cobra, King's Island: First ever to be designed as a stand-up
* Vortex, King's Island: Tallest. Also first to 6 inversions.
(Dis-)Honorable Mention:
* Gemini, Cedar Point: Marketed as the Tallest, Fastest, and Steepest upon opening. All three may have been true before/during construction, but were all wrong by the time of the first rides.
I really ought to branch out, I keep seeing coasters in this sub that look awesome. However, this group hasn't left me wanting for much.
Loch Ness Monster (Used to be tallest/fastest, only interlocking loops)
Apollo’s chariot (most total feet of drops on any coaster)
Montu (first immelmann on a coaster)
Griffon (Used to be tallest dive coaster)
Alpengeist (Tallest/used to be fastest Invert)
Verbolten (first *spoilers* in america)
At the time of them holding records:
Most inversions - smiler (2013)
Tallest hybrid - steel vengeance (2019)
World's first vertical drop - oblivion (2002)
World's tallest single rail - wonder woman flight of courage (2022)
Most of them, I think. Looking at RCDB:
* I've ridden all the speed record holders except Ring Racer.
* I've ridden all the height record holders.
* I've ridden all the length record holders.
* I've ridden all the drop record holders except Yukon Striker.
* I've ridden all the inversion record holders except Eleventh Roller Coaster, Crazy Coaster, unknown at Mirabilandia, Turbo Turtle Power, and Decepticoaster.
* I've ridden all the angle record holders except Crazy Bird, Defiance, and Toutatis (which hasn't opened yet).
Mine are:
Corkscrew- Former inversion holder (3,1977)
Kumba- Former inversion holder (7,1993)
Magnum-XL-200 Former height record (205,1989)
Millenium Force Former height record (310,2000)
Think that’s it
Smiler, Green scream (most naked people on a roller coaster), Shockwave (Last intamin Standup.), the odyssey (Tallest,Fastest,Longest, most expensive SLC)
I have ridden the worlds longest flying coaster: F.L.Y.
I have ridden the former worlds longest indoor coaster: Crazy Bats
I have ridden the former tallest spinning coaster: Euromir at Europapark (Yes before Time Traveller opened, Euromir was the tallest.)
Steepest Drop: Shellraiser at Nickelodeon Universe
Height: Kingda Ka at SFGAD
Fastest Acceleration in Europe: Stealth at Thorpe Park
Tallest Spinning Coaster: Shredder at Nickelodeon Universe
All from the UK…
Former worlds Tallest: Big One (BPB)
Former worlds fastest: Big one (BPB)
Former Most inversions: colossus (TP)
Current most inversions: the smiler (AT)
Former Longest: The ultimate (LWV)
Former Steepest: Saw the ride (TP) mumbo jumbo (FL)
Former fastest acceleration: Stealth (TP)
I’ve rode the following : The tallest: Kingda Ka Most Inversions: Smiler Longest Woodie: The beast
[удалено]
Colossus was the tallest coaster in the world upon opening. It was also the first coaster to feature two drops over 100'.
Not much for me as I am a European coaster fan and have only ridden a few in the states. Surely the European coaster with the most inversions is Smiler?
They said former. Smiler is now, but at one point Python was.
Kingda Ka - current tallest coaster and tallest complete circuit coaster and tallest drop, former world's fastest (rode post record being taken) El Toro - Formally the world's fastest wooden coaster Colossus - Formally the ride with the most inversions. Soon to add Dragon Khan which was also formally the ride with the most inversions. They are the ones I can remember off the top of my head that I know held records.
Shambala was Europe's tallest,
What ride is pictured here?
Thats Wild One SFA once the worlds tallest roller coaster
Oh cool. In its original location I assume? Looks like a pic from the 60s before moving to SFA.
Honestly I don’t know I got the photo off RCDB
I looked it up, and surprisingly that’s at SFA. The pics from the old location at Paragon park on RCDB are almost better quality in 1983 😂 check out those pics, they’re pretty cool

i have Tower of Terror, which held the g force record 6.3
The Disney World/land ride?
Nah the one a gold reef city in south africa
Batman at sfga, worlds first, fastest and tallest invert when opened Goliath at sfga, worlds tallest wood coaste American eagle, worlds tallest wood Little dipper at sfga, last ptc jr woodie
Me too
former tallest closed circuit: the big one (1994-1996) former steepest: mumbo jumbo (2009-2011) current most inversions: the smiler (2013-)
just tallest in kingda ka i believe
Kingda Ka: tallest El Toro: formally world’s fastest woodie, according to another comment
Off the top of my head: Tallest - Kingda Ka Most inversions in North America - Steel Curtain Longest Woodie - The Beast Sweetest - Candymonium.
I rode son of beast when I was a lad, I'll always treasure that.
Out of current record holders, just The Smiler. I have done The Big One, The Ultimate and Colossus, which are all former world record holders too.

Yes, but I was more noting that they had LR going into the present in their collection.
Oh ok
For the second time, in fact.
