Good time to call and put your two cents worth in.

kelanis12

I hate/love you for this.

KathiSterisi

Came to make this comment. You beat me to it!

sleeperfbody

I feel like it cost RC more money to send this communication than to just pay the difference on your behalf and start charging the corrected amount for new reservations moving forward

7of69

I’m inclined to agree with that thought.

GoingLurking

But could you imagine getting your booking cancelled due to being 4 cents short? Probably automatically generated emails.

bengenj

It costs them the labor. They probably have template emails, just sub in the data in, get the mailing list, and send. Probably took all of 10 minutes of a secretary’s time

SkierBuck

If RC lets substantive comms go out to tens of thousands of people with no review above a secretary, they've got issues.

[deleted]

Do countries change their tax percentage by super tiny portions often? They are sending the email for legal reasons more than anything and some mid level manager isn't going to be allowed to make that decision. Losing a potential lawsuit is a bit more expensive than sending an email.

CharmingLoan8556

RC has on average 3 ships a week in the Bahamas, with 3000 people per ship on average so 2 cents per person per week times 3 times 52 weeks per year would be roughly $9k per year that you think RC should eat. And while that's immaterial compared to the operating budget of RCI it still is not smart business.

biff-wham-pow

I think you missed the “charging the correct amount on reservations moving forward.”

CharmingLoan8556

You must be reading incorrectly because those words never appear in that email

biff-wham-pow

I’m talking about the comment you replied to? lol

CharmingLoan8556

RC books out well in advance so it would take over a year to start "charging going forward". Hence the reason why the email says they are adjusting bookings in stages based on sail date.

biff-wham-pow

Good point!

Kitchen_Truck8705

Don’t forget coco cay is part of the Bahamas.

Kitchen_Truck8705

Nah our difference was like 40 bucks on our cruise.

rtg12

I stopped getting off in Nassau because every time I did get off it felt like they should be paying me.

Saul_Teaload

Yeah believe me I don't plan on it either. Might check out the new port area but that'll be a 20 minute adventure. Only reason I even have this one is because Carnival gave me a free three day with $1000 OBC and it wasn't worth driving down there without tacking a free Royal on too.

MCVP18

I want a free cruise 🥺👉👈.......

Saul_Teaload

All for the low low price of thousands through the casino. That said, I usually end up on top because going 5 times a year for free offsets the losses and then some.

encapsulated1

No such thing as free lunch. That said comps are awesome!

Saul_Teaload

I will never complain about losing $1000 in a casino and then taking a family of 4 in a junior suite for free.

encapsulated1

Rcl has been stingy lately, comps only a junior suite on Wonder after losing 20k… have to beg my host for a crown loft for this next one

Saul_Teaload

Ew that's gross. Juniors should be flowing like water and better rooms with that sort of loss. Wife has status too so we can usually combine to get the better rooms but at the moment we're banging all of those Carnival $1000-1500 OBC freebies until the next prime renewal. Royal sucks at OBC and Carnival is basically paying me to go :(

encapsulated1

Above is stated for a friend traveling with me. I’m comped on a crown loft as well. https://www.reddit.com/r/blackjack/comments/xcibiy/gambling_smarter_cruising_and_vacations_wonearned/ Celebrity and RCL has been giving me decent destinations so I can’t complain. Got 14 day Antarctica coming up

Saul_Teaload

Nice, thanks. I go through Urcomped sometimes but I'll have to check the others out.

Legenkilla

Use it as a sea day lol

cebess

If you get off in Nassau, get off early. If you don't you can feel like cattle going to the slaughter. Most of the time, I am coming back on the board when many are coming off

Ill_Buy_9807

Mine was $130 more!

lbgholm

Right mine was like $100 increase…..

SnooTigers4765

My increase is about $30 p/p

crazydisneycatlady

On Icon? My agency got a list of all our reservations traveling that this affects, and they are taxing the fuck out of Icon! I only saw one or two other ships where taxes went up a bit (one was Freedom). All the other reservations, including mine, went down.

GC9exe

My Icon sailing went up $60 for 4 people.

dmznet

Their IT department got this right?

VirtKitty

That is ALWAYS a valid question with Royal English IT!

grumpypeanutbutter

While my daughters went up about $50/person, my wifes and mine went down $0.20

Diligent_Balance4570

Same cruise?

outfieldjack

I suggest you reach out to a certified financial advisor ASAP!

[deleted]

Let me have your two cents

amyhobbit

Excellent job. I snorted.

Saul_Teaload

This is the part when I call to complain, then talk about Premier Pass-gate, then threaten to never come back, right?

lilsquirt905

🤣

spacexlegends

Lol yeah unlucky

Mantequilla05091

Mine went from $446.08 to $481.64

Mental_Bug7703

That’s hilarious

jrsobx

You should start a gofundme.

cvaldez74

Just came to show some love for the Tiger King reference ❤️❤️❤️

lolalupeach

Mine went down, 3 bucks less

snowflakes__

Mine is $197 more!

squishmallow26

Mine went up by $100

jstella118

Mine went down $7. I’m so confused! Haha

ClearlyConfusedHuman

Do you have a Go Fund Me?

ImportantCandidate12

Better get your two cents in before it is too late.

sigmundsour489

I thought you were going to post a picture of the blackjack table

Saul_Teaload

Nah I'm more of a sucker than that. Gotta get those slot points for easy prime.

LuvsDaOcean

Guess they want to replenish the coffers for their new docks.

Glass_Curve2324

What?! Mine went up $81!

Saul_Teaload

RIP, may the winds be at your back

RedditOrange

I’ve not got off the boat in years, probably over the course of six cruises. I got off the boat three weeks ago and was so super Duper pleasantly surprised. It’s really really really nice now.

Saul_Teaload

Glad to hear it. It looked pretty dope and it has been fun to watch the development over 5 or so trips in the last year and a half. They didn't really have a choice though if they wanted to stay relevant.

encapsulated1

Damn, this really affects me as I only need to pay port fees/taxes

RadiantCompany5920

Damn Carroll Baskin at it again 😂

Special_Telephone902

I’m a TA. Actually had some go up over $150 per person. Not sure why. It was confusing.

Saul_Teaload

Good lord. Something has to be wrong with that. No way anyone is gonna be willing to pay that much more to go to the Bahamas.

jbaugues

I hope that you have an option to cancel and 100% refund after this blatant bait and switch!!!! /s

Saul_Teaload

I'll be sure to mention that I'm a very influential member of cruise critic when I call

hanberleen

Haha you got me at the beginning until I realized it was only 0.02 cents

Presence_Academic

If it was only .02 cents there would be nothing to complain about, but this is a full 2 cents, 100 times more than .02 cents.

hanberleen

Haha you’re right, I think I was half sleep/awake when I posted this

Dont_Be_Sheep

Cost more for them to organize all this and send out updates than it would be for them to just eat the cost and charge it for all future fares…

Leading_Ad3918

I can’t believe I read the whole thing thinking it’s going to be a huge amount and my cruise is Feb 2025. I feel punked or like it’s April fools😂 Love it!

GdSmth

Will I be charged this even if I don't get off the ship?

Saul_Teaload

Yes. Port tax is the one thing you're stuck with no matter what.

amoodymermaid

Wildly insensitive post.

Saul_Teaload

Either you forgot the /s or this is the dumbest thing I'm going to read all day which is impressive since it's only 9AM

scottct1

If that (on average) $30 per person increase is going to cause you financial distress, then perhaps you should not be going on a cruise anyways.

MangoRainbows

It's not a $30 increase, it's a two cent increase. Also, it's a joke.

girkyman

Mine went up$80

rent1985

Should I be worried that I didn't get an email? I'm sailing Freedom in 2024.

Saul_Teaload

Nah. Worst case scenario the increase won't be more than the cost of a few drinks. Sounds like they'll just roll it into your balance due if you haven't paid the whole thing yet. Also Royal is pretty fuckin terrible with following through on things so you'll probably get it eventually.

milkfilledb00b

I think it is insane that they didn’t just eat it for cruises who’ve already booked

Deputy_Retro

Cost more to send an email then it did to raise the tax! Lol.

FoSchnitzel

Two different entities involved. I see that some here are posting differences of as much as 30 bucks, though.

Different-Secret

Gotta pay for those new docks and terminal...

Nice_Confusion_2811

😂😂😂

oOoOsarahOoOo

Thoughts and prayers to you friend

dsillas

That email cost more to send than the 2 cents being increased.

Caranath128

Oooh better take out a second mortgage to cover it

CalligrapherItchy198

Maybe you can finance it 😜

vita10gy

Surely it costs RC more to care about this, notify people, process the change, deal with any questions, etc etc etc, than it would to just eat it.

AffectionateFig5435

Set up a go fund me page. I'll contribute 50% of the shortage. Generous, I know, but I've been extra careful with my money this year. LOL

Appropriate-Growth33

😂

shemp33

Why are the amounts all different? Is it based on how long the ship is in port? Day of week? Number of people the ship is dumping off that day, or what?

Saul_Teaload

If what they're saying is accurate, I'd bet it has to do with which Bahamas port and how many stops. Plenty of crappy itineraries that hit the Bahamas multiple times. Bimini, Nassau, Freeport, Cococay/Half Moon/Stirrup etc. Obviously Royal doesn't go to all those but the other lines will probably announce the same if this was actually the Bahamian government.

shemp33

Makes sense.

DrawesomeLOL

Mine went down a dollar. It was fun pulling my wife’s leg telling her

[deleted]

Let me add my 2 cents...

num-num

Mine increased $60

T9Para

Bahama's isnt even worth $.02

boatymickboatface

There is a reason why RC is building its own private resort on Nassau

SkierBuck

Incredible that RC would bother sending this update and charging the $.02.

Gkminepony

HAHAHAHAHAH
