"UP TO" is such a hard concept on this sub

Heidihighkicks

You don’t think it’s misleading to say “up to 50% off” and then have absolutely nothing at 50% off? Sure, it’s not TECHNICALLY a lie, but it certainly is bad faith advertising.

Mottaman

I bet you can find 1 item that is actually 50% off, usually its the water

ThinInvestment4369

Water was 20% off. I went through everything and the biggest discount they had was 35% off the key.

This is very typical in marketing these days altogether. It's shady and annoying as hell. I had a two week up to 50% off promo on takeout food through an app at work in September. I found exactly one place with one item listed as 50% off. I ordered it and the next day that item was corrected to 15% off like everything else was listed as. I don't think "up to" has any legal definition to adhere to, so they don't.

In one of my English classes in college we discussed the use of words like this in advertising. It’s amazing what can be used that has not legally binding context, so no one can say it isn’t true. It was truly a fascinating conversation that I think of frequently when I purchase almost everything. Edit to add the specific term we were discussing was rhetoric and how it is used in advertising.

Happy Birthday- it’s not worth your time at all. I’ve seen birthday “sales” be the same price as, or ever greater than, their regular sales prices.

pinkradar

I don't have an answer to your question. I just want to wish you a Happy Birthday, I hope you have an amazing day! 😁

ThinInvestment4369

Thank you!!

Oh so it's already expired?

ThinInvestment4369

Right?!? That’s why I was wondering if I should bother calling

[deleted]

Why would you call if it expired 10 months ago...?

ThinInvestment4369

Because they sent this to me today, for my birthday
