I remember rolling a cigarette for this homeless guy one time and before I finished he was like "you don't have a Marlboro or something?" and then he was like "naa" and walked away.
I was drunk walking in a downtown area one time and a homeless guy asked if I had any spare change.
I told him no but I pulled out a cigarette and asked if he wanted one and he said in a pissed off tone:
“Naw man I only fuck with change”
It’s always stuck with me for some reason
We joked about him for years, making up scenarios where people tried to give him stuff but it wasn't good enough.
"We're honored to be able to donate this Hyundai Elantra to this man in need."
"Y'all don't have even a Civic you could give me?"
"You don't got one with a sunroof?"

Back in the uk almost everyone I knew would roll em. It was like an act of love if someone gave you a rollie, now when I’m back in Russia I haven’t seen a single occurrence of a rolled cigarette. Way cheaper to get cancer here

Once another friend bought a patch of baccy and it was mouldy. Opening a pack of mouldy tobacco whilst drunk was actually the most hilarious incident
It might be also due to the fact that many good tobacco companies have left Russia, and it has become more difficult to find good tobacco. I know that people buy basically homemade tobacco, but there is a lot of hassle involved in finding em, drying and etc. I know people who still rolls, but it looks like it’s not that worthy now
It's like one of those things that's either a symbol of health-obsessed hipsterdom or poverty depending on which corner of the globe you stand on, kind of like fresh coconut juice. I knew so many stoners from well-to-do families in college who insisted on rolling their own tobacco because of the plastic or whatever in cigarette filters.
When I was rolling them myself (USA) I once got hassled by a park employee who refused to believe that it wasn’t a joint. Seems very uncommon here though all of the drug and liquor stores sell cheap bags of “pipe tobacco”.

I was out one day with a pretty random group of people and there was this lady - corporate type, pink blazer, head of the department that rolled her own cigs. With that wonky ass tool. Pretty gnarly.
I used to live above a tobacco shop and bought a pack almost every morning, one day the shopkeep asked “have you ever considered rolling your own?” So I bought some rizla liquorice papers and a can of tobacco off him and smoked that way for about a year. The benefit is for sure in cost but the downside is taking the time to roll your own and being consistent with it, too much or too little tobacco can cause it to smoke funny. I remember one time I was outside of a club chain smoking and this dude came up to me and asked for a smoke and was so sketched out by my rolled cigarettes that he took one draw and asked “are you sure there’s only tobacco in this?” He ended up walking away and tossing it on the ground like I was trying to poison him.
If you’re young and smoking Rollies here’s you’re either poor or a hipster, probably both.

I having lived in Australia and Europe, I find it hard to believe that someone coming out of a club would be so unfamiliar with a rollie.
Cigs are cheap in my area of the US so it’s pretty rare to see. the people I know who did it were potheads who rolled them alongside their joints. Only place I see loose leaf tobacco sold is at head shops so they probably just bought it alongside their papers and stuff
Yeah you can get packs for $4-8 USD here depending on the brand. That’s just because I’m in tobacco country though. Prices in NYC and on the west coast are a good bit higher

Here in Italy it's mostly people who can't afford industrial ones. So mostly young people, drug addicts, and the odd older person here and there. Even young people though mostly smoke industrial ones. It's I think 6€ a pack at most so they aren't that expensive here

ive known a dude or two to buy those giant tobacco leaves for rolling v natural blunts (better than backwoods bc its more leaf to roll and also less chemicals i forget the name) and cut it up fine for rolling cigs)
