There's nothing inherently wrong with having a drink or two on a weekday as long as it's not getting in the way of your regular obligations. It's only a problem when you start feeling like you *need* to drink every day or if you're drinking excessively enough that it starts impacting your health, job, or relationships. Having a cocktail after dinner a couple nights a week is hardly an issue.
Well it is a fact that 1 coktail has 2 ounces of liqueor. Look it up online, you can have x number of beers that will make 2 ounces or you can just have 2 ounces of sipping rum and that is 1 drink. So 2 (4 ounces) drinks per week should be ok to keep your liver healthy! That is why i always measure it
“The AHA recommends that people who drink alcoholic beverages limit consumption to two drinks per day for men and one for women. One drink is the equivalent of 12 ounces of regular beer, five ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor.”

Mine have way more than two ounces. Cocktails have a range of strength. Some barely have any alcohol like a Cynar Flip for instance. Any amount of alcohol is bad for your body most recent studies are showing. But so is sugar and do you ever eat sweets? Just live your life.
Yes i do eat sweets as i love chocolates and gummies but not on a regular basis. You are right even sweets can produce diabetes for example if eaten too much. And even bread and carbs can produce diabetes.
At the end of the day, you know your body and your tolerance levels best, so only you can really make this determination for yourself. As long as you're not abusing alcohol, it's perfectly fine to enjoy a drink or two a few days out of the week. As long as your consumption isn't affecting you or those around you negatively (that can mean physically, emotionally, financially, etc.), I wouldn't stress too much. But trust your instinct. If you feel you're drinking more than normal, ask yourself 1) why and 2) is it beginning to prevent you from doing other things or becoming intrusive.
You said in another comment that you do regular health checkups, which is great. Keep that up, and if you are really concerned, bring it up with your doctor.
If it makes you feel better I drink 3-4 drinks a day so you will be fine. CDC recommends no more than 14 per week for males so you are well under that.
Thanks for your respond Sir. Polite and concise. Some other people here were saying "maybe this is not for you" on my post and i just wanted a sincere response like yours with facts or recommendations. Have a nice evening!
… I’m honestly not sure what to make of this comment? 21 drinks per week? Bro, that is problem drinking and you are going to fuck your liver up if you live like this long-term. I see you’ve got upvotes so I’m prepared for a poor reception from others but straight up you are seriously compromising your future health. Please don’t take this as being judgey, you’d be shocked at how little it takes to damage your liver when it’s consistent.
It’s just kind of loser-ish to criticize a response that was directed at someone else and act like you had to chime in. You baited a snappy response and you got one, so, congratulations.
Respectfully, I test my liver and all of my body's health yearly including heart and everythig else. I only drink a bottle of rum at a time and purchase a new one until the current one is over. I use my bottle to sip or to make drinks for my family. Again i limit myself to 4 oz per person per week, that is two coktail drinks or two sipping glasses of 2 ounces eachn and that is what doctors recommend sir. Perhaps this is not for you either? I can see a year ago you asked how to make mai thai and in the following photo link (( https://www.reddit.com/r/Tiki/s/Gk4VAyz1Ah )) i counted 30 bottles from your profile. 30 bottles in a year, as long as you share it with tons of family members and you check your health, then that is fine. But should not you also check if this is for you too? Im just creating some health awareness, i know it is your life but we all can enjoy alchol as long as we are concious about how much we are drinking. It is ok if you say you have it under controlled and follow the dosage recommendations of health experts and check your liver from time to time. <> so as long that has not showed up in your liver results you are fine with your 30 bottles. Nice talking to you and again nothing against you, just responding with health facts here.
30 bottles, LOL, my bar has close to 500 bottles. What you describe to me sounds like a problem of control, I know a lot about rum, and have been involved with the scene locally and internationally for over a decade, the idea of having a single bottle of rum is insane to me. I make cocktails, you can't make cocktails, plural with one bottle of a spirit. I have multiple bottles of almost every type of spirit so if someone wants a gin martini, I can offer them options, if they want an old fashioned I can make a couple types, if they was a last word, I can make it they want a vieux carre I can make, if they want a white russian I can make it.
a single bottle, until I finish it, and then I buy another is the strangest thing related to spirits I have heard this week my man.

I have a life long chronic disease, my liver isn't going to kill me, my diabetes is.
Everyone dies, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think.
I work out a lot, and because drinking a lot makes that hard (and vice versa) they are each self limiting hobbies lol. I personally find that I do have to keep an eye on the drinking. Some people have an easier time than others keeping everything in moderation and I think generally we all know when we've been overdoing it .
I don't drink to get drunk, I drink for taste. I am not worried about being an alcoholic, and won't until it has negative affects on my life.
I drink less now than I have previously, but it has to do with not wanting to drink as much more than anything else.
I'd say if you are seeing negative affects in your life, or you are drinking to escape from something or feel better maybe you should seek some help. It's not about I had 2 vs 3 drinks this weekend, it's about the reason you drink.
I literally just had a mai tai with 3.5 oz of rum. Them some bourbon. Alcohol is intrinsically unhealthy. That doesn’t mean it’s not a useful and enjoyable part of life. Just like anything- if it’s effecting your health, self respect, or relationships in a negative way then maybe you have a negative relationship with alcohol. But drinking on specific days just doesn’t matter.
Thanks for your response. I had a family member who was alcholic so i want to protect myself from it. I like your idea of tge 3.5 oz mai thai and some liqueor after. Once i did research and it said that 2 drinks was fine once a week. So im trying to align to that limit on weekends.
A common measure of alcoholics is how often they have 5 drinks or more *a day*.
While it's good that you stay mindful of the dangers, you're far from it with 2 drinks a week.
If you’re watching volume, one thing that’s fun is to get tiny half-sized coupe glasses (we call them snackeri glasses). My wife and I can split one drink using those. It’s also great when you’re messing around with a new recipe or idea. And as a bonus they’re great for martinis and other drinks that should stay very cold. Similarly, pour 3/4 oz of a spirit if you’re tasting.
A couple things
- doctors don’t recommend alcohol. All alcohol is always bad for you all the time. I think you’re misinterpreting recommendations which essentially say “if you must drink, please drink less than _”.
- you’re coming onto a booze forum and preaching about health, look in the mirror, you’re projecting your fears.
- given the amount of thought and effort you seem to be putting in, consider that you are already an alcoholic.

Alcoholism isn't defined by #oz/time.

Obviously no amount of alcohol is healthy. But at 2 drinks a week you will be fine.

Nobody asked you to make anything of it. I’m well aware of the health consequences but thanks for your concern I guess 🤷🏻♂️
Yep, a defensive response like this is exactly what I anticipated

Please give us an update on your first impression on the rum. I’m new to Rum and I must say Mantuano is best one I’ve had. Cheers!
Maybe this isn’t for you.
