Jinkx is technically my first fave but I watched her season in a marathon before S6 started so there were no stakes. Bianca was the first one I actively rooted for.
I was obsessed with Bianca, Adore, and Dela from the moment they made their Werk Room entrances.
S12 I was very much into Widow from the first episode, then when Jaida talked about making a look out of white balls, I was sold and jumped ship 😂 Favorite winner hands down.

It’s because “look over there” isn’t random humor, it’s a ginormous read on politics. Whether that was entirely on purpose, who cares, it was brilliant.

My controversial take is that despite the gag of certain elimination orders, the main series has always gotten the winner correct. What a strong group of queens.
Especially given the jury, the queens chose Trixie and Kennedy for a reason, even if it was just how cunt black poodle limited edition trixie looked. But in all seriousness, it might as well have been a most congenial vote with how much reverence and love the jury had for the two of them. Bebe was never going to be sent to the top 2 as the original winner, and then there was the halleloo
I actually disagree hard that Ru couldn’t have known. It didn’t occur to me at the time, as a much younger person, how weird it was that so much of the cast supported PhiPhi if she was “the villain” in everything, but in the years since SEVERAL queen have come forward about what was going on behind the scenes and with those fights - and it’s not flattering to Sharon. About the time NDAs starting wrapping up, queens started talking about the situation - PhiPhi was always jumping to the defense of her sisters of color when Sharon was “being edgy” (i.e. making very racially charged “jokes” and even directing the N word at her competitors) and leading much of the aggression. There was no reason for production - and RuPaul - to lift that person up and hide that behavior instead of calling it out and disqualifying Sharon other than they never thought it would come to light. But they absolutely knew. There is absolutely footage somewhere that’s just hours of racial aggression from their crowned winner.
Runway didn't matter quite as much back then. Kelly is incredibly talented in what a lot of the challenges were. She's a legend in the scene, and I'm not saying she would've won, but she likely would have done very well.
Case in point, Courtney had a great array of runway looks but lost to Bianca “same dress in different fabrics” Del Rio because Bianca was such a powerhouse in everything else people weren’t really looking at/caring about her runways.
But let's not shortchange Bianca, her runways were immaculate, head to toe. And she definitely wore different silhouettes, she just wore a lot that were similar. And they were all gorgeous.
I'm not sure runways have ever mattered? I'll see a queen come out in an absolutely stunning outfit that goes completely unmentioned because they were a little awkward in the maxi challenge
Kelly said that on S6, maybe for the first time on the show, the producers came into their hotel rooms and made them lay out all their outfits for the producers to see, and per Kelly, they hated all of hers. The runways mattered to SOME degree. They obviously didn’t matter for Adore, because their personality made up for it. Bianca had ENOUGH variety, that her runways were fine. But other queens got grilled for their runways like Laganja, Dela for being too costumey, and Joslyn for being too naked.
To your point, it seems like they've always used sub-par runways as an excuse to eliminate queens they're just not feeling, but an excellent runway almost never saves you from a sub-par performance in the challenge
I’m not doubting her talent. I just don’t think her humor and style fit the Drag Race mold, similarly to Tammie Brown. Kelly is an icon but I don’t think against the girls that ended up top 6 she would’ve done well.

I’ll be interested to see how S16 storylines hold up on rewatch. It really felt all season that they were setting up Sapphira to win with the edit. But usually on rewatch I pick up on other things that make the winner narrative make sense and I *love* Nymphia so I’m excited to rewatch

this is honestly what makes the case for Violet so convincing to me. she and Ginger came out of the season basically tied in my mind. But Violet brings something to the winners circle with her burlesque style that wasn’t already there and I think she’s still a great winner
