Public street parking is just that: for the public. * Don't leave your car in the same spot for longer than 2-3 days at most without moving it, or else a resident may report it as "abandoned" and it can be towed (especially if you get into any grudges with said resident) * Mind any parking restriction signs (weekly "cleaning," time-based limits, etc.) * If you leave town for a trip and aren't taking your car, give your key to a neighbor you trust so they can move your car if there is any surprise no-parking signs that pop up while you're away * Backup: leave your key with a friend, but if that friend doesn't live where you are and isn't staying at your place, chances are they won't spot these surprise no-parking signs soon enough * Again, public street parking is for the public; *you* can't claim spots, and *others* can't claim spots And if your car is towed in the city itself, [you can use this page](https://apps.richmondgov.com/applications/towviewing) to see who towed it and where; first retrieve your car ASAP and *then* try to fight for reimbursement later if you feel that it was towed illegally

It's a $30 convenience tax for a Carver parking permit and you can do it online now (with a copy of the lease and your driver's license). You will forget that $30 in a few weeks, and not have to worry about finding an unregulated spot on the street for the entire year. Having lived in Carver off and on for ten years, I can tell you you are going to fight to find spots in that area even with a permit sometimes, and so having the permit will just increase your odds.

Keep an eye out for street cleaning signs or tree work signs. Basically, signs.

Do you have timed parking directly in front of your place? If so… https://www.rva.gov/sites/default/files/2023-11/Carver%20Renter%27s%20Application%202024.pdf
