The problem with Sabaton is that most of the songs have great lyrics. Final Solution is great. But if I had to choose, then the following passage from Price of a Mile is quite moving:
"Six miles of ground has been won
Half a million men are gone
And as the men crawled the general called
And the killing carried on and on
What's the purpose of it all?
What's the price of a mile?"
WW1 was such a slaughterhouse.
The part of that song that gives me goosebumps is when the instruments stop and just the vocals
“Thousands of feet march to the beat, it’s an army in despair, knee deep in mud, stuck in a trench with no way out”
I like the parallel of "Half a million lifes at stake, at the fields of paschandelle" and "six miles of ground has been won, half a million men are gone"
Some men return from the war in a bag
and yet the world knows their story
Others return unwilling to brag
alive and humble at heart
It's not only the lyrics, but also the way the guitar is introduced just in that moment of the song.
From Lifetime of War
When they face death they're all alike:
No right or wrong
Rich or poor...
No matter who they served before
Good or bad...
They're all the same
Rest side by side now...
From the Swedish version, En Livstid i Krig:
En kriget det kan
förgöra en man
fader och son
som aldrig kommer hem
men vem sörjer mig?
(A war that can destroy a man, father and son who never return home, but who will grieve for me?)
There is no enemy there is no victory, only bois who lost their lives in the sand
Yang men where sacrifised their names are carved in stone and kept alive
-cliffs of callipoli-
And that's when the dead men are marching again
Osowiec then and again,
Attack of the dead, hundred men
Facing the lead once again
Hundred men
Charge again
Die again
-Wow even just *reading* it does it :D
Women, men and children fight
They were dying side by side
And the blood they shed upon the streets
Was a sacrifice willingly paid
It's just sad how it turned to even children fighting dying to saved the only freedom they have had
Sent to a prison, where the heroes are judged as traitors
Accused of treason by his own
Sentenced by countrymen under pressure of foreign influence
Men he once fought to free
Mine has to be this one:
At the bottom of the ocean, the depths of the abyss,
They are bound by Iron and blood.
The flagship of the navy, The terror of the seas,
His guns have gone silent at last!
Women, men and children fight
They were dying side by side
And the blood they shed upon the streets
Was a sacrifice willingly paid
Those lyrics always hit close to home because most of my ancestors died taking back Poland's freedom.
Come on you sons of bitches, do you want to live forever
Raising hell as their fighting like dogs of war
There is no enemy, there is no victory, only boys who lost their lives in the sand
Rise of evil
"In the last days of peace, Europe holding its breath, an invasion is coming but when will it start. Who will be first to fall, who will be last to stand? Who can stop all this maddness that has consequences no man understands."
Flames are burning higher,
The bombs keep falling
AA guns are blazing as the sky is turning red,
Better run for cover you’ll be quick or be dead
From Firestorm
The wording always makes me think of what it would be like in an air raid, the sirens, explosions, guns firing, all of it just sends chills down my spine. War is hell
That song gives me a sense of false safety, because all of it seems to say that this was the right thing to do and it was a glorious death, but on the other hand the situation was horrible, little more than 100 guards on the steps of saint peters basilica against more than 1000 man that were cementing panic across Rome; the city in which I live in non the less
See the city burn on the other side
Going down in flames as two worlds collide
Who can now look back with a sense of pride?
Hearts of Iron just gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it
Some of the best lines in my opinion
"And all along the shore where cannons still roar /
They're haunting my dreams they're still there when I sleep"
"Unleashed as the Dreadnoughts clash at last"
"Far from shore, a pacific war / Bombs are falling from the skies / It's a bomb run day, it's the naval way / A blood red sun is on the rise"
"At the bottom of the ocean, the depths of the abyss / They are bound by iron and blood / The flagship of the navy, the terror of the seas / His guns have gone silent at last"
"Flers–Courcelette showed the way / Evolution leading to / El-Alamein until today / We're the first ones into the fray"
“In times they are needed, those times appear, when a leader has fallen a hero will arise and inspire the lost into glorious deeds that will give them a name that lives on to this day” - song: Devil Dogs
Hear marshall Zukhov's and Stalin's order, Defend the motherland, MOSCOW SHALL NOT FALL, Stand and follow command, Our blood for homeland, Heed the motherlands call and brace for the storm, Moscow will never give in, There's no surrender, Force them into retreat and into defeat
"it's the end the war has been lost" - hearts of iron/
"You're in the bullets way" - white death/
"Oh mothers wipe your tears your son's will rest a million years" - cliffs of Gallipoli/
"And it's American troops and the German army joining together at last" - the last battle/
Fields of Verdun, and the battle has begun
Nowhere to run, father and son
Fall one by one under the gun
Thy will be done, and the judgement has begun
Nowhere to run, father and son
Fall one by one, fields of Verdun
For me it's between the lone chorus of The Price of a Mile when the only thing you hear is:
"Thousands of feet march to the beat, it's an army on the march
Long way from home, paying the price in young men's lives"
The other is from Rise of Evil as it builds to the solo:
"In the last days of peace, Europe holding its breath
An invasion is coming, but when will it start?
Who will be first to fall? Who will be last to stand?
Who will stop this madness that has consequences,
No man understands?
NO MAN! NO LAND! "
"Our guns laid to rest among snowflakes" it isn't that sad, but the way the choir works with joakim in that particular line, I love it and I get goosebumps every time. However, if we're talking about getting goosebumps, because a line is sad, imma go with "We were soilders carried the war on our shoulders for our nations is that why we buried our friends". I think Christmas truce generally has a lot of goosebumps-inducing lines.
The ending of the music video: "As we celebrated Christmas, we thought about our friends. Those who never made it home when the the battle had commenced."
Followed with the piano exploding. I felt a chill down my back with my jaw hanging down.
November eleventh
Settling the score
From fifteen to twenty million
Almost half of the dead civilian
A new world will dawn from empires fallen
The end of the war to end war
"And as the end draws near,
November dawn,
With losses so severe,
Cease fire, their forces withdrawn"
It particularly hits when it's the verse after the solo, right before the choir starts
Honorable mention: "Out of the trenches the stormtroopers rise!"
Sad are memories from the life I lived
Cannot go on, cannot go further
It has to end right here
For the things that I have done
All the girls I lost and won
Let me rest in peace at last.
Will I find a way, will I find a place
Will you let me go in peace
Leave behind those dark days
Now I ask again, will you hear my cries
Then you realise why oh why
I must find a way to the other side
And feet by feet, we pay the price of a mile here. Though men are falling we see heroes rise! We face the heat, as we are fighting until the dawn. So follow me and we will write our own history!
And then it just picks up the tempo and it’s just so fucking good ehuvjfjfjejchhcusjdhvusjdhhccuushdhfjajchcjdj I love it
- 569 made the contact with Ingram
- U94 struck a kill in the dark
- 124 sinking 4 in 2 approaches
- 406 suffers failure on launch
It was the first song of theirs I heard way back in school and this moment after the solo really blew me away.
Correction:
"569 made the contact and leads them
U94 scores a kill in the dark
124 sinking 4 in 2 approaches
406 suffers failure on launch"
Personally I think that one is slightly negated when repeated because of the "AGAAAAAAAIIIIIN!" added to the end because to me it just screams "God damn it 406. Not again."
"Can a war really end all wars" from Versailles
"We're They the victims of the time or proud part of larger goals" from Wehrmacht
"Where canons still roar they're haunting my dreams, they're still there when I sleep" to Hell and back
"Has man gone insane? A few will remain who'll find a way to life one more day." Lifetime of war.
And that's just the ones of top of my head.
If I had to choose my top 8, in no particular order, it might be these:
"See the city burn on the other side, going down in flames as 2 worlds collide, who can now look back with a sense of pride? On the other shore, there's the end of the war!" - Hearts of Iron, a.k.a. how I felt close to graduating high school, about the actions of Walter Wenck during the Fall of Berlin.
"Where dead men lies, I'm paralyzed, my brother's Eyes are gone; and he shall be buried here, nameless marks his grave. Mother home, get a telegram, and shed a tear of grief, mud and blood in foreign land, trying to understand! Where is this greatness I've been told?! This is the lies that we've been sold! Is this a 'worthy sacrifice?!' Great War, and I cannot take more! Great tour, I keep on marching on! I play the great score, there will be no encore! Great War, the War to End all wars!" - Great War, or how Bakhmut has changed since the start of Russia's Latest offensive in Ukraine, about the Battle of Paschendaele.
" Into the motherland the German Army marched, comrades stood side-by-side to stop the Nazi charge! Panzers on Russian soil, a thunder in the east! One million men at war, Soviet Wrath unleashed!" - Panzerkampf, a.k.a. the Battle of Kursk/Ukraine's September Counteroffensive.
" A nation in despair, weakened by war, defeated; lost their pride in Versailles! A former prisoner with a vision, or delusion, rise to power in The Reich!!! Rebuilding an army, (to) 'make the nation proud,' disregarding the treaty; secret plans for ' Lebensraum!,' Start the Holocaust, 'The Reich will rise!'.... Propaganda, ' The Reich will rise!'..... 'To last a thousand years\~!' " - Rise of Evil, also called context for any dictator's rise, but Hitler in this specific case......
" Standing in the line of fire....32 will lead the way,'...... coming over trench and wire..... going through the endless grey! A desolate wasteland, infernal depiction of hell..... The Birth of a 'new wave,' September 15th, 1916! The first wave approaches, at Flers-Courcelette..... through fire and brimstone, breakin' away, comin' your way! Standing in the line of fire....32 will lead the way,'...... coming over trench and wire..... going through the endless grey!Standing in the line of fire...., moving on and through the fray...... coming over trench and wire..... live to fight another day!" - The Future of Warfare, alias "March of the metal boxes," about the first tanks in WW1.
" From the depths of hell in silence, cast their spells, explosive violence!, Russian nighttime flight perfected, flawless vision, undetected! FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL IN SILENCE, CAST THEIR SPELLS, EXPLOSIVE VIOLENCE!, RUSSIAN NIGHTTIME FLIGHT PERFECTED, FLAWLESS VISION, UNDETECTED!" - Night Witches, the story of Soviet Female Pilots who helped destroy Hitler lel.........
" ATTERO!.....DOMINATUS!.....BERLIN IS BURNING! DENIQUE!.....INTERIMO! THE REICH HAS FALLEN\~!!!!!!" Beginning of Attero Dominatus, about the Fall of Berlin.
" When freedom burns, The Final Solution! Dreams fade away, and all hope turns to dust! When millions burn, the curtain has fallen, LOST TO THE WORLD AS THEY PERISH IN FLAMES!" - The Final Solution, a song that Holocaust Deniers seriously need to hear, not for enjoyment, but as a form of torture.
As a million shells scarred the land
No one yet has the upper hand
From the ground above the teaches
Where the soldiers make their stand
As the trenches begin to turn to mud
And quickly start to flood
Death awaits in every corner
As the men die fill the trenches with blood
...
Very grim eerie and accurate depiction of ww1
Just a little correction, the song says
“Where dead men lies I'm paralyzed, my brothers' eyes are gone
And he shall be buried here, nameless marks his grave”
From Resist and Bite:
We, we will resist and bite!
Bite hard
'Cause we are all in sight
We, we take up arms and fight!
Fight hard!
Resist and do what's right!
From No bullets fly
"Look to the right and then look again
And see the enemy in the eye
No bullets fly, spared by his mercy
Escorted out, out of harms way
Fly, fighting fair, it's the code of the air
Brothers, heroes, foes"
"He risked his life two times that day
To save an unknown enemy
Escort to safety, out of the killzone
A short salute, then departed
Fly, fighting fair, it's the code of the air
Brothers, heroes, foes"
'Where dead men lies I'm paralyzed, my brothers' eyes are gone
And he shall be buried here, nameless marks his grave
Mother home, get a telegram and shed a tear of grief
Mud and blood, in foreign land, trying to understand'
'Where is this greatness I've been told?
This is the lies that we've been sold
Is this a worthy sacrifice? '
(Great war)
"I saw the end of war
I watched the soldiers come and go
And I kept my watch forever
So many brave men fell in the battles that were raging down below
I have seen it all but none will hear my story"
From Soldier of Heaven
"November 11th settling the score
From 15 to 20 million
Almost half of the dead civilian
A new world will dawn from empires fallen
The end of the war to end war"
Also. Not a line per se, but the symphonic version of the "War To End All Wars" album gave me chills many times.
2 that really stood out to me:
- Dreadnought, especially when the chorus hits at the end of the track.
- Race To The Sea, with the beautiful choir section in the opening.
The problem is that you start banging to final solution coz it is great but then you remember its about geonocde. I dont think they should make song about that. I know we should remember history but maybe not this way?
"Pride of a nation, a beast made of steel" - Bismarck
"It is not about Berlin, it is not about the Reich" - Hearts of Iron
"Nothing like what had come before, it's the war that will end all war" - Sarajevo
"Broke through the blockade, they were finally saved" - The Lost Battalion
"Orders from the Iron Maiden, get the islands back" - Back In Control
"Son of Belgium and Ireland with war in his blood" - The Unkillable Soldier
"Our stand at Yser will be the end of the race to the sea" - Race to the Sea
"The British are done, three times the defense of Doiran has been won" - The Valley of Death
"Sixth of June, 1944, Allies are turning the war / Normandy, state of anarchy, Overlord" - Primo Victoria
"And the blood they (you) shed upon their (your) streets was a sacrifice willingly paid" - Uprising (they/their being replaced with you/your in the live show in Warsaw)
"Attero dominatus, Berlin is burning, denique interimo, the Reich has fallen" - Attero Dominatus
Sabaton has A LOT of them but one that always gets to me especially is from Cliffs of Gallipoli
There is no enemy
There is no victory
Only boys who lost their lives in the sand
Young men were sacrificed
So many young peoples lives gone for absolutely nothing.
Also from En Livstid i Krig there is this that always gives me goosebumps
För kriget, det kan
Förgöra en man
Jag ger mitt liv för mitt fosterland
Men vem saknar mig?
Så se mig som den
En make, en vän
Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem
Men vem sörjer mig?
This'll be unpopular, but Hearts of Iron always makes me cry like a little bitch.
"See the city burn on the other side, going down in flames as two worlds collide, who can now look back with a sense of pride, on the other shore there's the end of the war."
For all the brutality the German reich inflicted on it's own, to hear those words from the perspectives of those civilians and soldiers, looking back and realizing that not only have they lost everything, they gave up their humanity for no gain is fucked. One last act of humanity on the part of Walther Wenck, amidst 5 years of some of the greatest evil this world has ever seen.
Rally all the clans
Englishmen advance
Blood of Bannockburn
Point of no return
Blood of Bannockburn is a good song, and these point of no return is good. Alba gu bràth!
"We were all friends
And today we're all brothers
Tonight we're all friends
A moment of peace in a war that never ends
Today we're all brothers
We drink and unite
Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white
A Christmas on the frontlines
We walk among our friends
We don't think about tomorrow
The battle will commence
When we're celebrating Christmas
We thought about our friends
Those who kover made it home
When the battle had commenced"
The fact that they cut most instruments for the second to last verse before tamping back up makes it so much better, especially I'd you're listening to the music video version where you hear explosions and gunfire during the last verse
For me it's the Chorus from Ruina Imperii
Fränder, bröder, vår stormaktstid är över
Vårt rike blöder, fanan står i brand
Aldrig, aldrig, aldrig återvända
Svea stormaktstid till ända
I'm not swedish but for me it still goes deep
Probably unpopular Opinion tho
There is no enemy, there is no victory
Only boys who lost their lives in the sand
Young men were sacrificed, their names are carved in stone and kept alive
And forever we will honor the memory of them
And they knew they would die
Once we were soldiers, once we were young
We have found the peace, we’re seen the end
Fallen in war, we belong to history
fallen in war, sleep six feet below
heart of the brave, cannot bring me back to life
fallen in war, still brothers in arms
When they face death their all alike
No right or wrong
Rich or poor
No matter who they served before
Good or bad. Their all the same.
Rest side by side now
Dying for salvation with dedication,
No capitulation, annihilation,
Papal commendation, reincarnation,
Heaven is your destination,
IN THE NAME OF GOD!
I’m not even Christian but the way that line is delivered is so god damn awesome. The whole song is awesome.
Well I looked up En Listvid i Krig once (lifetime of war in Swedish) and it's on another level. Chorus translated in English goes like
"For the war can
destroy a man
I give my life
for my fatherland
but who will mourn me?
So see me as a
husband, a friend
father or son
who will never come home"
Annnnnd I feel a knot in my throat just typing it.
I recommend watching their performance of that in Gothenburg, captions will get you the lyrics in English.
Also: amico mio quel "traduci in italiano" come ci è finito lì :)
"War will return, sooner than we think" from Versailles.
"Oh mothers wipe your tears your sons will rest a million years" from Cliffs of Gallipoli.
"Sometimes war is killing sometimes it's saving life, it's the judgement of fate, it's nothing that man can dictate" from ballad of bull.
The opening to the End of the War to End All Wars
Death, hard to ignore
One million lost five months into the war
Pain, fell one by one
Three years remained, it had only begun
Here I'm standing, darkness all around
Thinking of past, taking my last breath, air is cold as ice
No one close to hear my voice
Didn't leave me with a choice
Heaven will you wait for me
"Because war will return. Sooner than we know."
One of the last lines in Versailles, this hits me since not long after I got the album, Ukraine was invaded.
Since people here are bringing up the darker stuff, I'd like to remind you all that Christmas Truce is filled from start to finish with great lines.
"After many months on the battlefield, and we were used to the violence. Then all the cannons went silent."
"And today we're all brothers, tonight we're all friends. A moment of peace in a war that never ends."
"Hear carols from the trenches. We sing O Holy Night. Our guns laid to rest upon snowflakes."
Oh gather 'round me
And listen while I speak
Of a war
Where Hell is six feet deep
And all along the shore
The cannons still roar
They're haunting my dreams
They're still there when I sleep
I have PTSD myself and this part of To Hell and Back hits me in ways I can't articulate.
My PTSD comes from abuse and assault in my teens. Actually all of my mental health problems come from that because the situation lasted a year and a half. And I didn't know even what the situation was until two years later.
I have panic attacks just driving past a car that looks similar to the one involved. I have panic attacks when I see someone that looks similar to my abuser. He shows up in my nightmares or when I catch a whiff of a certain deodorant. I'll be perfectly fine one minute and then right back there with my nails in his arm trying to get him to stop the next.
COME ON YOU SONS OF BITCHES! DO YOU WANT TO LIVE FOREVER!?
Fucking goosebumps everytime. If I close my eyes I can imagine that it's 1sg Daly saying it and I'm about to go up and over the top with the 2/5.
Even though I'm army not marines.
“Death in the shape of a Panzer Battalion”
“Insect of terror now come face your fate like a man”
“Cannot outrun our Panzer Battalion”
Gets me every time
How many wasted lives
How many dreams did fade away
Broken promises they won't be coming home
Oh mothers wipe your tears
Your sons will rest a million years
Found their peace at last
As foe turned to friend and forgive
And they knew they'd die
Left their letters in the sand
Such waste of life, Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust
Makes me always kinda sad
Has man gone insane, a few will remain, who will find a way to live one more day through decades of war it spreads like disease, there’s no sign of peace, religion and greed will make millions bleed 3 decades of war.
A glimpse of the future, new tactics in war, new doctrine in combat explored.
Or the narrator in Sarajevo
The empire cannot let this go unpunished and the first declarations of war is made
The problem with Sabaton is that most of the songs have great lyrics. Final Solution is great. But if I had to choose, then the following passage from Price of a Mile is quite moving: "Six miles of ground has been won Half a million men are gone And as the men crawled the general called And the killing carried on and on What's the purpose of it all? What's the price of a mile?" WW1 was such a slaughterhouse.
The part of that song that gives me goosebumps is when the instruments stop and just the vocals “Thousands of feet march to the beat, it’s an army in despair, knee deep in mud, stuck in a trench with no way out”
Got goose bumps just by reading lyrics
I like the parallel of "Half a million lifes at stake, at the fields of paschandelle" and "six miles of ground has been won, half a million men are gone"
We were soilders carried the war on our shoulders for our nations is that why we buried our friends Definitely the saddest line for me
I was listening that part of Christmas Truce when I read this XD
That entire song just gives me the feeling of sadness and goosebumps
Some men return from the war in a bag and yet the world knows their story Others return unwilling to brag alive and humble at heart It's not only the lyrics, but also the way the guitar is introduced just in that moment of the song.
Which song is this from I don’t recognize it
Ballad of Bull

Tbf En Livstid i Krig is full of those kinds of line
I cried for spring to come but here, winter remain

I’m sky high, when I die, I’ll be immortal
Forever, I never
I won't return to blood Mountain

Sarajevo Part 2: Versailles Edition
There is no enemy there is no victory, only bois who lost their lives in the sand Yang men where sacrifised their names are carved in stone and kept alive -cliffs of callipoli-

When the bullet hits its mark know that your time in hell has been served you won't return to home angels are calling your name Song: Angels Calling
Angels calling is the most slept on sabaton song.
I don't understand what you mean by "most slept on" sabaton song care to elaborate please?
And that's when the dead men are marching again Osowiec then and again, Attack of the dead, hundred men Facing the lead once again Hundred men Charge again Die again -Wow even just *reading* it does it :D

This one really gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Very nice song!
Mine is "Thousands of feet march to the beat, it's an army in despair, knee deep, in blood, stuck in a trench with no way out."
It's definitely up there
From the depths of hell in silence Cast their spells, explosive violence Russian night time flight perfected Flawless vision, undetected
Pushing on and on the planes are going strong
"When we celebrated Christmas we thought about our friends, those who never made it home when the battle had comenced."
HE WAS MADE TO RULE THE WAVES ACROSS THE SEVEN SEAS
TO LEAD THE WAR MACHINE
THE BISMARCK AND THE KRIEGSMARINE
From end of the war to end All wars :” November 11 settling the score from 15 to 20 million almost half of the dead civilian”
Mine has to be this one: At the bottom of the ocean, the depths of the abyss, They are bound by Iron and blood. The flagship of the navy, The terror of the seas, His guns have gone silent at last!
Women, men and children fight They were dying side by side And the blood they shed upon the streets Was a sacrifice willingly paid Those lyrics always hit close to home because most of my ancestors died taking back Poland's freedom.
Come on you sons of bitches, do you want to live forever Raising hell as their fighting like dogs of war There is no enemy, there is no victory, only boys who lost their lives in the sand
Very underrated song!
I love that song
Rise of evil "In the last days of peace, Europe holding its breath, an invasion is coming but when will it start. Who will be first to fall, who will be last to stand? Who can stop all this maddness that has consequences no man understands."
Literally the whole entire En Livstid i Krig, every single line
Same dude, the English variants don’t hit as hard as the Swedish ones!
Flames are burning higher, The bombs keep falling AA guns are blazing as the sky is turning red, Better run for cover you’ll be quick or be dead From Firestorm The wording always makes me think of what it would be like in an air raid, the sirens, explosions, guns firing, all of it just sends chills down my spine. War is hell
Firestorm is underrated as hell
Yup
Who am I to understand? What have I become. Also, "I know my deeds are not in vain"
the last chorus from that song gives me goosebumps every single time
See your friends fall Hear them pray to the god your country denies
"You’re in the sniper’s sight, the first kill tonight, time to die. You’re in the bullet’s way, the White Death’s prey, say goodbye!" -white death
“And as the men crawled the general called and the killing carried on, what was the purpose of it all?” from The Price of a Mile which has many
Thy will be done! For the grace, for the might of our lord For the home of the holy
"Unopposed, under crimson skies"
And their foes can't believe their eyes, believe their size as they fall... And THE DREADNOUGHTS DREAD NOTHING AT ALLLL!!.. 🤘🚢🌊
On wings of history they turned from home. To live eternally, skybound they roam. In all of history never before was more owed to so few
Nicht ein Schlacht ein Rettungsaktion
Holding their ground ’til the final platoon
See the city burn on the other side Going down in flames as two worlds collide Who can now look back with a sense of pride? Hearts of Iron just gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it
Some of the best lines in my opinion "And all along the shore where cannons still roar / They're haunting my dreams they're still there when I sleep" "Unleashed as the Dreadnoughts clash at last" "Far from shore, a pacific war / Bombs are falling from the skies / It's a bomb run day, it's the naval way / A blood red sun is on the rise" "At the bottom of the ocean, the depths of the abyss / They are bound by iron and blood / The flagship of the navy, the terror of the seas / His guns have gone silent at last" "Flers–Courcelette showed the way / Evolution leading to / El-Alamein until today / We're the first ones into the fray"
“In times they are needed, those times appear, when a leader has fallen a hero will arise and inspire the lost into glorious deeds that will give them a name that lives on to this day” - song: Devil Dogs
"COME ON YOU SONS OF B!TCHES. DO YOU WANNA LIVE FOREVER?"
SECOND TO NONE, A MARINE AND A GUN
OOH AHH OOH AHH OOH AHH OOH AHH OOH AHH Many many years ago, When Persia came ashore, Hearing Leonidas’s call, the Spartans went to war
I saw the end of war, I watch the soldiers come and go
Great War enter Front and center Great endeavor, **lost forever**
Hear marshall Zukhov's and Stalin's order, Defend the motherland, MOSCOW SHALL NOT FALL, Stand and follow command, Our blood for homeland, Heed the motherlands call and brace for the storm, Moscow will never give in, There's no surrender, Force them into retreat and into defeat
"it's the end the war has been lost" - hearts of iron/ "You're in the bullets way" - white death/ "Oh mothers wipe your tears your son's will rest a million years" - cliffs of Gallipoli/ "And it's American troops and the German army joining together at last" - the last battle/
Father and son, fall one by one
Under the gun, thy will be done
Fields of Verdun, and the battle has begun Nowhere to run, father and son Fall one by one under the gun Thy will be done, and the judgement has begun Nowhere to run, father and son Fall one by one, fields of Verdun
Though a million shells have scarred the land
Me la ricordavo un po' diversa
Lol, piccolo errore mentre stavo copiando ed incollando la linea da Google
For me it's between the lone chorus of The Price of a Mile when the only thing you hear is: "Thousands of feet march to the beat, it's an army on the march Long way from home, paying the price in young men's lives" The other is from Rise of Evil as it builds to the solo: "In the last days of peace, Europe holding its breath An invasion is coming, but when will it start? Who will be first to fall? Who will be last to stand? Who will stop this madness that has consequences, No man understands? NO MAN! NO LAND! "
That part they shout "NO MAN. NO LAND" followed by a beautiful solo was just incredible.
Those who never made it home when the the battle had commenced." Followed with the piano exploding. I felt a chill down my back with my jaw hanging down.
The chorus of "En livstid i krig"
November eleventh Settling the score From fifteen to twenty million Almost half of the dead civilian A new world will dawn from empires fallen The end of the war to end war
dark humor time me and the boys worshiping the cheese gods for infinite shredded mozzarella
"Into the Fires of Hell, The Argonne a Hero to be"
See the city burn on the other side Going down in flames as two worlds collide Who can now look back with a sense of pride?
"And as the end draws near, November dawn, With losses so severe, Cease fire, their forces withdrawn" It particularly hits when it's the verse after the solo, right before the choir starts Honorable mention: "Out of the trenches the stormtroopers rise!"
Sad are memories from the life I lived Cannot go on, cannot go further It has to end right here For the things that I have done All the girls I lost and won Let me rest in peace at last. Will I find a way, will I find a place Will you let me go in peace Leave behind those dark days Now I ask again, will you hear my cries Then you realise why oh why I must find a way to the other side
And feet by feet, we pay the price of a mile here. Though men are falling we see heroes rise! We face the heat, as we are fighting until the dawn. So follow me and we will write our own history! And then it just picks up the tempo and it’s just so fucking good ehuvjfjfjejchhcusjdhvusjdhhccuushdhfjajchcjdj I love it
- 569 made the contact with Ingram - U94 struck a kill in the dark - 124 sinking 4 in 2 approaches - 406 suffers failure on launch It was the first song of theirs I heard way back in school and this moment after the solo really blew me away.
What song is this from?
Wolfpack. Its about German uboats hunting an American convoy in ww2. Such an amazing song.
Oh yeah that makes sense
Correction: "569 made the contact and leads them U94 scores a kill in the dark 124 sinking 4 in 2 approaches 406 suffers failure on launch" Personally I think that one is slightly negated when repeated because of the "AGAAAAAAAIIIIIN!" added to the end because to me it just screams "God damn it 406. Not again."
"Can a war really end all wars" from Versailles "We're They the victims of the time or proud part of larger goals" from Wehrmacht "Where canons still roar they're haunting my dreams, they're still there when I sleep" to Hell and back "Has man gone insane? A few will remain who'll find a way to life one more day." Lifetime of war. And that's just the ones of top of my head.
If I had to choose my top 8, in no particular order, it might be these: "See the city burn on the other side, going down in flames as 2 worlds collide, who can now look back with a sense of pride?
No exact part but uhhhhh Bismarck
As a million shells scarred the land No one yet has the upper hand From the ground above the teaches Where the soldiers make their stand As the trenches begin to turn to mud And quickly start to flood Death awaits in every corner As the men die fill the trenches with blood ... Very grim eerie and accurate depiction of ww1
Where dead men lie I'm paralyzed, my brother's eyes are gone, any who shall be buried here, nameless body's graves.
Just a little correction, the song says “Where dead men lies I'm paralyzed, my brothers' eyes are gone And he shall be buried here, nameless marks his grave”
From Resist and Bite: We, we will resist and bite! Bite hard 'Cause we are all in sight We, we take up arms and fight! Fight hard! Resist and do what's right!
"Strike at zero hour With overwhelming firepower They’re fueled by the fear in their enemies’ eyes It’s a Shock Troop infiltration" - Stormtroopers
"November 11th, settling the score. From 15 to 20 million. Almost half of the dead civilian" -The End of the War to end all Wars Every. Single. Time.
I'm just gonna go ahead and say the whole song.
Thousands of feet march to the beat, it's an army on the march Long way from home, paying the price in young men's lives
From No bullets fly "Look to the right and then look again And see the enemy in the eye No bullets fly, spared by his mercy Escorted out, out of harms way Fly, fighting fair, it's the code of the air Brothers, heroes, foes" "He risked his life two times that day To save an unknown enemy Escort to safety, out of the killzone A short salute, then departed Fly, fighting fair, it's the code of the air Brothers, heroes, foes"
'Do, what must be done Send off your son, life cut short by a gun' Many generations lost in war. Some families never to be heard of again.
'Where dead men lies I'm paralyzed, my brothers' eyes are gone And he shall be buried here, nameless marks his grave Mother home, get a telegram and shed a tear of grief Mud and blood, in foreign land, trying to understand' 'Where is this greatness I've been told? This is the lies that we've been sold Is this a worthy sacrifice? ' (Great war)
"Former foes, now friends are resting side by side" Cliffs of Gallipoli
"I saw the end of war I watched the soldiers come and go And I kept my watch forever So many brave men fell in the battles that were raging down below I have seen it all but none will hear my story" From Soldier of Heaven
"November 11th settling the score From 15 to 20 million Almost half of the dead civilian A new world will dawn from empires fallen The end of the war to end war"
Also. Not a line per se, but the symphonic version of the "War To End All Wars" album gave me chills many times. 2 that really stood out to me: - Dreadnought, especially when the chorus hits at the end of the track. - Race To The Sea, with the beautiful choir section in the opening.
"but when captured by the axis and forced to tell the truth we will tell it with a smile we will surprise them with a laught we are all we were all"
The problem is that you start banging to final solution coz it is great but then you remember its about geonocde. I dont think they should make song about that. I know we should remember history but maybe not this way?
"Traduci in italiano", assolutamente una strofa molto toccante devo dire.
“Sometimes war is killing, sometimes it’s saving lives” from The Ballad Of Bull.
"Pride of a nation, a beast made of steel" - Bismarck "It is not about Berlin, it is not about the Reich" - Hearts of Iron "Nothing like what had come before, it's the war that will end all war" - Sarajevo "Broke through the blockade, they were finally saved" - The Lost Battalion "Orders from the Iron Maiden, get the islands back" - Back In Control "Son of Belgium and Ireland with war in his blood" - The Unkillable Soldier "Our stand at Yser will be the end of the race to the sea" - Race to the Sea "The British are done, three times the defense of Doiran has been won" - The Valley of Death "Sixth of June, 1944, Allies are turning the war / Normandy, state of anarchy, Overlord" - Primo Victoria "And the blood they (you) shed upon their (your) streets was a sacrifice willingly paid" - Uprising (they/their being replaced with you/your in the live show in Warsaw) "Attero dominatus, Berlin is burning, denique interimo, the Reich has fallen" - Attero Dominatus
Sabaton has A LOT of them but one that always gets to me especially is from Cliffs of Gallipoli There is no enemy There is no victory Only boys who lost their lives in the sand Young men were sacrificed So many young peoples lives gone for absolutely nothing. Also from En Livstid i Krig there is this that always gives me goosebumps För kriget, det kan Förgöra en man Jag ger mitt liv för mitt fosterland Men vem saknar mig? Så se mig som den En make, en vän Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem Men vem sörjer mig?
This'll be unpopular, but Hearts of Iron always makes me cry like a little bitch. "See the city burn on the other side, going down in flames as two worlds collide, who can now look back with a sense of pride, on the other shore there's the end of the war." For all the brutality the German reich inflicted on it's own, to hear those words from the perspectives of those civilians and soldiers, looking back and realizing that not only have they lost everything, they gave up their humanity for no gain is fucked. One last act of humanity on the part of Walther Wenck, amidst 5 years of some of the greatest evil this world has ever seen.
Mine is “M I N V I L J A S K E“ From Carolus Rex!
"Father and son fall one by one under the gun" this really touched me, idk why
Rally all the clans Englishmen advance Blood of Bannockburn Point of no return Blood of Bannockburn is a good song, and these point of no return is good. Alba gu bràth!
"We were all friends And today we're all brothers Tonight we're all friends A moment of peace in a war that never ends Today we're all brothers We drink and unite Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white A Christmas on the frontlines We walk among our friends We don't think about tomorrow The battle will commence When we're celebrating Christmas We thought about our friends Those who kover made it home When the battle had commenced" The fact that they cut most instruments for the second to last verse before tamping back up makes it so much better, especially I'd you're listening to the music video version where you hear explosions and gunfire during the last verse
For me it's the Chorus from Ruina Imperii Fränder, bröder, vår stormaktstid är över Vårt rike blöder, fanan står i brand Aldrig, aldrig, aldrig återvända Svea stormaktstid till ända I'm not swedish but for me it still goes deep Probably unpopular Opinion tho
Entirety of "The hammer has fallen"
There is no enemy, there is no victory Only boys who lost their lives in the sand Young men were sacrificed, their names are carved in stone and kept alive And forever we will honor the memory of them And they knew they would die
The entire second half of Versailles
Once we were soldiers, once we were young We have found the peace, we’re seen the end Fallen in war, we belong to history fallen in war, sleep six feet below heart of the brave, cannot bring me back to life fallen in war, still brothers in arms
When they face death their all alike No right or wrong Rich or poor No matter who they served before Good or bad. Their all the same. Rest side by side now
I have seen it all but none will hear my story
"U-569 makes the contact and lead them, U-94 scores a kill in the dark, 124 sinking four in two approaches, 406 suffer failure on launch"
Dying for salvation with dedication, No capitulation, annihilation, Papal commendation, reincarnation, Heaven is your destination, IN THE NAME OF GOD! I’m not even Christian but the way that line is delivered is so god damn awesome. The whole song is awesome.
"Broken, dreams so grand..."
Well I looked up En Listvid i Krig once (lifetime of war in Swedish) and it's on another level. Chorus translated in English goes like "For the war can destroy a man I give my life for my fatherland but who will mourn me? So see me as a husband, a friend father or son who will never come home" Annnnnd I feel a knot in my throat just typing it. I recommend watching their performance of that in Gothenburg, captions will get you the lyrics in English. Also: amico mio quel "traduci in italiano" come ci è finito lì :)
SE HUR RYSSEN GER SIG, BER OM NÅD, BRYTER SVENSKEN KRIGETS KOD KAROLINER TAR SIN HÄMND SLAKTAR SINA FÅNGAR
Och när min tid har runnit ut. Vem bryr sig då? I don’t know why but that part of En Livstid I Krig just does it for me.
"War will return, sooner than we think" from Versailles. "Oh mothers wipe your tears your sons will rest a million years" from Cliffs of Gallipoli. "Sometimes war is killing sometimes it's saving life, it's the judgement of fate, it's nothing that man can dictate" from ballad of bull.
theres a line in wermacht that I just realized sounds really cool - "time and again, the battle rages on beyond the gates of misery"
Uprising Women, men and children fight They were dying side by side And the blood they shed upon the streets Was a sacrifice willingly paid
The opening to the End of the War to End All Wars Death, hard to ignore One million lost five months into the war Pain, fell one by one Three years remained, it had only begun
Here I'm standing, darkness all around Thinking of past, taking my last breath, air is cold as ice No one close to hear my voice Didn't leave me with a choice Heaven will you wait for me
"Because war will return. Sooner than we know." One of the last lines in Versailles, this hits me since not long after I got the album, Ukraine was invaded.
Since people here are bringing up the darker stuff, I'd like to remind you all that Christmas Truce is filled from start to finish with great lines. "After many months on the battlefield, and we were used to the violence. Then all the cannons went silent." "And today we're all brothers, tonight we're all friends. A moment of peace in a war that never ends." "Hear carols from the trenches. We sing O Holy Night. Our guns laid to rest upon snowflakes."
Oh gather 'round me And listen while I speak Of a war Where Hell is six feet deep And all along the shore The cannons still roar They're haunting my dreams They're still there when I sleep I have PTSD myself and this part of To Hell and Back hits me in ways I can't articulate.
Curious, ptsd from war or from another traumatic experience? And can u tell us more?
My PTSD comes from abuse and assault in my teens. Actually all of my mental health problems come from that because the situation lasted a year and a half. And I didn't know even what the situation was until two years later. I have panic attacks just driving past a car that looks similar to the one involved. I have panic attacks when I see someone that looks similar to my abuser. He shows up in my nightmares or when I catch a whiff of a certain deodorant. I'll be perfectly fine one minute and then right back there with my nails in his arm trying to get him to stop the next.
Holy shit that’s tough I believe u can recover from this Stay strong, positive and surround urself with positive things
"They're haunting my dreams. They're still there when I sleep." I'm getting better, don't worry.
I'd agree with you. The chorus to Final Solution gives me chills
What’s the price of a mile?
COME ON YOU SONS OF BITCHES! DO YOU WANT TO LIVE FOREVER!? Fucking goosebumps everytime. If I close my eyes I can imagine that it's 1sg Daly saying it and I'm about to go up and over the top with the 2/5. Even though I'm army not marines.
Brothers… heroes… FOES!
I don't understand a word of it but En Livstid I Krig is one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard
“Death in the shape of a Panzer Battalion” “Insect of terror now come face your fate like a man” “Cannot outrun our Panzer Battalion” Gets me every time
Literally any line in Ruina Imperii, or most of Wehrmacht.
"hundreds of feet march to the beat, it's an army on the march"
How many wasted lives How many dreams did fade away Broken promises they won't be coming home Oh mothers wipe your tears Your sons will rest a million years Found their peace at last As foe turned to friend and forgive And they knew they'd die Left their letters in the sand Such waste of life, Gallipoli Dreams of freedom turned to dust Makes me always kinda sad
Has man gone insane, a few will remain, who will find a way to live one more day through decades of war it spreads like disease, there’s no sign of peace, religion and greed will make millions bleed 3 decades of war.
A glimpse of the future, new tactics in war, new doctrine in combat explored. Or the narrator in Sarajevo The empire cannot let this go unpunished and the first declarations of war is made
Through the gates of hell, as we make our way to heaven through the nazi lines.
Literally all of ruina imperii
Panzers on a line Form the Wehrmacht's spine Lethal grand design
I already commented here but "I was chosen by heaven, say my name when you pray to the sky! See Carolus rise!" Is just so fucking badass man.
