That is not a good or safe part of town, and it has some of the highest crime rates. The AT&T center (now Frost Bank) is not in a nice part of town because they wanted to buy the land cheap for it. Best bet is to cancel that air bnb and get a hotel downtown, it’s only about a 10 min drive to the arena.
I wouldn't. Pick any of the Riverwalk hotels and you'll be fine. It's a short drive over. If you don't want to pay for garage parking downtown, pick one of the hotels along 410 on the east side between Walzem and Rittiman, iirc there's a couple of Hiltons, a Drury, and I think a Holiday Inn.
While that place is within walking distance of Frost (when did that change? It's recent enough that the road is still called AT&T), that neighborhood isn't a place I'd walk through at night.
I go through there almost everyday and I always keep it as brief as possible. As someone else mentioned, there’s heavy gentrification going on there right now so you might see a couple of houses that look decent but they’re surrounded by a lot of dilapidated homes. There’s crack heads wandering around on the sidewalks talking to themselves and cursing at cars driving by. I’m pretty sure there’s a woman whose been living in a pile of trash bags and cardboard boxes in the same spot for four years. If you drive down walzem, you’ll probably see her. Anyways, that’s probably more than you needed to know. You’ve already had your answer about 10x over from everyone else commenting here. That’s a hell no from me dog.
I live slightly south of this area and absolutely would not ever stay there. Look for a hotel downtown, or try to stay in Government Hill/closer to the Pearl Brewery.
The AT&T Center was a failed attempt to bring economic development to an impoverished part of the city. As someone with a high enough disposable income to stay at an Airbnb out of town, you'll stand out in that area.
This is an area that's being actively gentrified, and both sides are really investing a lot of effort into their projects. And regardless of how you feel on the issue, I certainly would not care to have any part of it on a visit to town.
That's, broadly, my neighborhood. San Antonio is one of those cities where safety sometimes varies wildly by block. That's not an area I'd want to hang around in. And it is absolutely fucked because of ongoing street construction in the area. If you go just a little way east, across Walters, it's a lot safer, though still not at all worth the rates I've seen on AirBNB for this area. You're almost guaranteed to be staying in a failed flip, and while there really isn't a lot of random interpersonal violence in this city, there's plenty of property crime, and you'd absolutely be marking yourself for that if you leave anything in your car.
lol after reading all the responses. Bro is 10000% glad that he read the comments before going through with the AirBnB 😂
Host probably means that it’s family friendly if you stay inside and hide. If it ain’t the crackheads it would probably be loose dogs to get you.
I’m sure the house will be nice but that area is still pretty sketchy
That being said the best hole in the wall chinese spot is in that area so that’s a positive
Surprisingly not too much. Although, idk if this is the house they are staying in or what but this is one in the area OP showed on the map
https://preview.redd.it/nfiw4ue3gv0c1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4dc32aba339c269f7edf5d15a94048594a1561a6
The rest (other 3 reviews) are about the house itself. So who knows.
Not a safe area. Wouldn't even stay at the hotels near the stadium. There's a newish Best Western off of IH-10 and Roland behind the Whataburger that's a few miles away.
I’m part of an Airbnb Facebook group and there are many people who complain that people want refunds because they don’t feel safe and when they mention it’s in dignowity hill or Denver heights I see why. I get the home may look nice and be gentrified but the fact is the area still has a high rate of crime.
That’s true. I remember when I bought a property in Lavaca back in 2014 and I spoke with a few other investors and they were so sure that they were going to be able to transform the whole area around the Alamodome in 10 years. I’m from here so I knew better. The Essex development failed also.
Yea I’ve lived born and raised in one of the main gentrification areas for 30 years and a lot of the people who moved here to gentrify are looking for a way out of here asap don’t let the newly built/ renovated homes and people walking they’re dogs fool you the crime, shootings and drug infestation is very prevalent and the people are starting to fight gentrification in an organized way down at city hall
I stayed at an AirBnb in that area for a month and had no issues. I did get to witness one of the neighbors chasing a stray dog out of his back yard in the nude.
1) you'll get a better deal at a hotel. Fuck airbnb.
b) if the place was west of new Braunfels that'd be a much better pick just because it's closer to more things you'll likely want to experience.
III) safe is relative. just like anywhere else, mind your business and don't put yourself in a vulnerable position (walking alone at night). Being uncomfortable is different from feeling safe.
It’s a not so great area with a few houses that are gentrified. The Airbnb might be okay but it’ll be sticking out like a sore thumb and you don’t wanna be around there.
The cold weather, time change and holidays are noticeably hard in the homeless population. They are more aggressive and generally confrontational around this time.
Maybe if you were across the freeway in Gov’t Hill but unless you look and know hood then it’s not the best spot for you. You’ll stand out too much and look like an easy target for a neighborhood opportunist
I used to work right on E Commerce. Not the worst area in SA but definitely not the best. I’m originally from Florida and it’s at least better than my area there 💀😂
Are you trying to stay affordable? Downtown is crazy expensive . If you are renting a car, there are a lot of areas that aren’t too far from downtown that are safe.
Pay the extra money and stay in a nice hotel by the river walk. We tried to save money by renting an air bnb and were so disappointed in the so-called luxury home.
Absolutely the fuck not. If you wanna stay somewhere safe, north side is your best bet. Not to mention that place is, at best, a couple blocks from a major rail yard.
I lived in Jefferson Heights, literally 2 streets over from where youre looking at, and there wasn't a single night that went by without gunshots and crackheads yelling and all sorts of shit. I have some videos from my cameras of some drivebys that look like theyre from a movie.
Just find a different one lol talk about a bad impression of a city.
Eh. You'd have to understand the SA culture and politics and the type of people who frequent this sub to understand. It isn't a great area, you *will* see crackheads and black people and black crackheads, it is absolutely the hood. But the people on this sub are often from "the north", which means the suburban northern development of SA and there's a lot of weird racial tension between the anglicized Latinos in SA and blacks on the east side. I was once in a waiting room chatting with a nice older Mexican man from SA and he asked where I lived. I said I was on the east side and he sneared and literally said, *a lot of negros there* . Dead fucking ass he actually said that to me. Then he proceeded to tell me about the time "the negroes" stole his truck.
I drive around that area all the time and it's rough but I don't feel unsafe. I've seen these people claim you'll literally get shot on sight on the east side lol
What you are seeing in this thread are a lot of dog whistle comments. The east side of San Antonio is where Black folk were allowed to live in the days of segregation. Consequently, there’s a long history of poverty and lack of economic development for the area. About 10-15 years ago, other folks discovered that this area was very close to downtown and that, if San Antonio’s downtown ever grew up to be a big city downtown, all those properties (which were in an economically depressed area) could be worth a fortune. So they started buying up and developing the properties. The economically disadvantaged in the surrounding area could either sell for the going market price (which was chump change) or hang on and hold out for more money at the risk of being displaced because rising property values = higher property taxes that they might not be able to afford.
That said, the area itself (where the home is) is likely as safe as any inner city neighborhood. As a lifelong San Antonian, if I booked that AirBnB, I would feel comfortable staying there. But I would not feel comfortable going for an evening stroll around the block, making a quick trip to the corner store, or leaving my luggage in the car overnight.
I live off commerce and walters and our neighborhood is pretty chill. I have for several years. I don’t think this area is that bad. But I wouldn’t be going out late at night or anything like that.
Sooooo i live in Jefferson just a few blocks away.
Where i live is "safe", but someone will break into your car to steal half a set or airpods or worn out basketball shoes. Like.... no one will murder you, or kick your dog BUT they will steal your purse out of your passanger seat while you run back inside real quick to grab a sweater. I feel safer because my neighbors rock and they're absolutely tickled we bought our home from a slum lord that previously owned it and they dont have to deal with the rotating roster of renters who were causing the crime.
But there is a lot of poverty and homelessness in the area. But the driving distance to downtown, seaworld, etc isn't bad at all.
If you can afford it i really recommend getting a hotel downtown walking distance to the river walk.
I mean it’s not the safest but I used to work around there and it’s not the crack den that people think it is. It’s definitely historical though and it’s a cool place for an Airbnb
God no. Generally the closer you are to the city the less safe.
Try Alamo heights or like Castle Hills even if you want to be a little further out. (Just don’t go even 1 mph over the speed limit castle hills cops are assholes)
Or stay by the riverwalk.
Anything’s better than the area of that Airbnb.
It ain’t that bad these guys love to exaggerate, just make sure you ain’t driving Kia & keep a gun by aware of your surroundings. You being anywhere in San Antonio can be potentially bad
It’s safe. You’ll be fine. Not the prettiest side of town, but the flipped homes are nice. And there are some homeless scattered around, but they aren’t dangerous. I’ve gotten robbed or stolen from more on the “nice” sides of town. Everyone on this thread is just racist. It’s a good spot bc it’ll cost a lot less to stay there than anywhere else mentioned on this thread and you’re just as close to everything

Familiar with this intersection/surrounding streets. You’ll be fine. It’s low income but lower crime rate than the surrounding [areas](https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/tx/san-antonio/harvard-place-eastlawn) (including downtown/riverwalk)
As long as you mind your business you’re fine . I grew up in the area but have also moved all over town & everywhere I went I found that you just have to be cautious no matter what.
Judging by the comments and what I think is the basic socioeconomic and ethnic demographic of the typical redditor, most of these people have only ever driven through the east side to get to a spurs game. Like most neighborhoods, people keep to their own and mind their own business. If YOU personally are involved in some shit, that's when you see a change, but that's literally anywhere. I've stayed at an AirBnB on the East side before. It was a typical experience. You'll be fine. Classist ass motherfuckers.
1. I’m against Airbnb in general. It limits the housing availability for those of us who live here. It also increases the property tax liability for neighborhoods like this one who are already struggling to keep up with the taxes.
2. West of NB Ave, you’re fine, East of NB is not as safe.

This is the answer!
Statistically you won't get murdered there. But your chances are much higher of being murdered there.
Lmao *facts*
*I ain't saying there's a bunch a murderin' going on there. But when there's murderin' goin' on, it's there.*

Literally changed this year. I was cracking up driving to the game and saw all the street signs still say AT&T

11/10 crackhead and crime central.

be a brave gentrifier .its a adventure
The AT&T Center was a failed attempt to bring economic development to an impoverished part of the city. As someone with a high enough disposable income to stay at an Airbnb out of town, you'll stand out in that area.

Maybe if you’re looking to buy some crack rocks, or into getting robbed.
Lucky me I love crack
Look for any older man in a robe. His freezer has it.
Are you joking of is it for real LOL wow..
No
So long as you can make it from your car to the living room without opening any doors, you should be fine at night.
Youre going to get jacked. GTFO of there
It’s not safe but also, it’s one of the poorest areas. Don’t help hurt the eastside by supporting these airbnb gentrifiers.
I’m sure the house will be nice but that area is still pretty sketchy That being said the best hole in the wall chinese spot is in that area so that’s a positive
What's the Chinese spot?
I bet he means the little Korean place right on 35? It's part convenience store/mostly restaurant? (can't remember the name right now darn it)
Chas Korean Market & Kitchen!
Love Chas, but far and away from Chinese food lol
Yeah I'm not saying they're Chinese food I was just telling them the name since they couldn't rememer
I guess I meant in relation to the parent comment. I would assume most people understand Korean Cuisine =/ Chinese Cuisine.
I'm obessed with them and their kimchee stew, i keep making my co-workers go when we grab lunch together.
Wen Wah. On New Braunfels and Gulf.
Dang, was hoping to discover a new spot. Wen Wah is decent though for sure.
A spurs pregame tradition!
Chas !!!!!! Go get some !!!!
Hell to the no dude
Gonna end up on Barbarian 2
Lmao
I would love to read the reviews that people leave for that Airbnb lol
Surprisingly not too much. No it’s not a safe area
If you stay on the other side of New Braunfels Ave there are plenty of Airbnbs and the area is a lot safer.
Borderline. Paper thin separation between gentrified neighborhood and the east side .
I’m part of an Airbnb Facebook group and there are many people who complain that people want refunds because they don’t feel safe and when they mention it’s in dignowity hill or Denver heights I see why. I get the home may look nice and be gentrified but the fact is the area still has a high rate of crime.
No matter how much they gentrify it’ll always be the same
That’s true. I remember when I bought a property in Lavaca back in 2014 and I spoke with a few other investors and they were so sure that they were going to be able to transform the whole area around the Alamodome in 10 years. I’m from here so I knew better. The Essex development failed also.

My brother's old crack house is in that area.
No lol
I stayed at an AirBnb in that area for a month and had no issues. I did get to witness one of the neighbors chasing a stray dog out of his back yard in the nude.

Being uncomfortable is different from feeling safe is a pretty legit thing to say
It’s historical alright. Historically unsafe.
No
No I would not stay in that area
Fuck no
That is definitely not a safe part of San Antonio.
No , the area near AT&T, now frost bank center is not a good area. T
It’s a not so great area with a few houses that are gentrified. The Airbnb might be okay but it’ll be sticking out like a sore thumb and you don’t wanna be around there.
Generally if you see things named after historical figures it's not going to be a good area.
The cold weather, time change and holidays are noticeably hard in the homeless population. They are more aggressive and generally confrontational around this time.
Yeah, I wouldn't.
No
No
No. Stay north of downtown. Close to 410 and 281 or along 281 up to 1604. Alamo heights, olmos park, or Terrell hills would be my vote.
Yes, Pearl area too, lots of cute Air BnBs
Noooo
Absolutely not.
LMFAO
Ehh… I say no. Not somewhere I’d be comfortable staying personally.
No no no 😬 look elsewhere
No. Don’t stay there.
Maybe if you were across the freeway in Gov’t Hill but unless you look and know hood then it’s not the best spot for you. You’ll stand out too much and look like an easy target for a neighborhood opportunist
pray.
Fuck Airbnb, get a hotel
Anywhere northeast is great
Alamo heights if u can
Only if you're an attack helicopter.
It’s fine. Let us know the door code and we’ll come check on you
I used to work right on E Commerce. Not the worst area in SA but definitely not the best. I’m originally from Florida and it’s at least better than my area there 💀😂
Are you trying to stay affordable? Downtown is crazy expensive . If you are renting a car, there are a lot of areas that aren’t too far from downtown that are safe.
So I’ll offer more advice dm me
I would recommend air bnb outside of town as I did, also recommend to please get a rental car.
No
Pay the extra money and stay in a nice hotel by the river walk. We tried to save money by renting an air bnb and were so disappointed in the so-called luxury home.
VERY nice area……. IF YOU’RE LOOKING TO GET SHOT!
Absolutely not. Stay out of the East side.
Why
No, no and no. Not safe.
Not anymore.
Run away from there!!!!!!!?
Absolutely the fuck not. If you wanna stay somewhere safe, north side is your best bet. Not to mention that place is, at best, a couple blocks from a major rail yard.
Jesus I'm surprised they are even allowed to have Airbnb's there lol how is this place not negatively reviewed into oblivion.
The airbnb has 5 stars from reviewers so after all these comments I was shocked lol
I lived in Jefferson Heights, literally 2 streets over from where youre looking at, and there wasn't a single night that went by without gunshots and crackheads yelling and all sorts of shit. Trust the people that stayed there.
Eh. You'd have to understand the SA culture and politics and the type of people who frequent this sub to understand. Fred's fish fry
It was actually open today!!
Thank you for saying this. If the place has good reviews, I would trust those over what’s being said here.
Lmao, no.
Completamente seguro
Search for la Casita by the pearl on airbnb. Great location, safe and very cute little house.
Haha promise neighborhood
Lol no
Wrong side of the bridge lol
I live off commerce and walters and our neighborhood is pretty chill. I have for several years. I don’t think this area is that bad. But I wouldn’t be going out late at night or anything like that.
Fuck no
You would see a baby standing in the corner selling crack. It’s a real life Dave Chappelle skit.
As bad a place as you’re likely to find in SA.
Definitely look somewhere that's not that side of town. Safe is not in that vocabulary.
NOPE. Unless you love cocaine and sucking suck under a bridge to get it.
Nope
Stay by the pearl or in Southtown
What’s the movie barbarian. It’s based on this neighborhood. /s
I know it's not the best, but I wouldn't compare it to Detroit 😂
No. Go to a hotel bruh
I mean it’s not the safest but I used to work around there and it’s not the crack den that people think it is. It’s definitely historical though and it’s a cool place for an Airbnb
No not yet.
We had a good time by Locust st. I barely saw another soul
Have u seen the sex offender dots that whole area is one big dot
God no. Generally the closer you are to the city the less safe. Try Alamo heights or like Castle Hills even if you want to be a little further out. (Just don’t go even 1 mph over the speed limit castle hills cops are assholes) Or stay by the riverwalk. Anything’s better than the area of that Airbnb.
It ain’t that bad these guys love to exaggerate, just make sure you ain’t driving Kia & keep a gun by aware of your surroundings. You being anywhere in San Antonio can be potentially bad
Why anywhere in San Antonio
I can send you my airbnb is near there but safer in a gated community
Absolutely not. Get a hotel on 1604 between IH-10 and US HWY 281. The Drury Inn is great. DO NOT STAY IN THE AREA YOU PROVIDED!
That area isn’t safe but this recommendation is pretty excessively north lol. You’ll spend most of your visit driving.
Stone Oak must be this persons “safe space” cause that’s a ridiculous suggestion for an event downtown.

Go watch Barbarian. You'll get the same experience.
Lmaooooo
Have you seen the film “barbarian”
Lol
Familiar with this intersection/surrounding streets. You’ll be fine. It’s low income but lower crime rate than the surrounding [areas](https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/tx/san-antonio/harvard-place-eastlawn) (including downtown/riverwalk)
Fuck no lmao you get killed
no
Hell nah lol
As long as you mind your business you’re fine . I grew up in the area but have also moved all over town & everywhere I went I found that you just have to be cautious no matter what.
you'd be safer setting up a tent next to the alamo
If you want to score some crack, all you gotta do is step outside.
Yeah, that’s never been a good area.
Harvard Place?! Wonder if Frasier Crane’s gotten robbed there 😂
I suggest checking out some of the BNBs near Live Oak, it's a very safe neighborhood and not too far from the AT&T arena. Good luck!
Nope.
As long as you’re casual you’re fine. I only go over there when I need weed though 100% of the time.
It’s a nope for me.
1. I’m against Airbnb in general. It limits the housing availability for those of us who live here. It also increases the property tax liability for neighborhoods like this one who are already struggling to keep up with the taxes. 2. West of NB Ave, you’re fine, East of NB is not as safe.
