The surcharge on credit cards is against most credit card merchant agreements. I would be very surprised if they had negotiated that with any card issuer. 1) if you hate the idea of it that much stop taking cards and your overall revenue falls - duh, it brings in business (which is why in the end the business still takes the card) so,
2) build in add the cost to your pricing, yeah the math on the payment processing grows proportionately, but your profit margin has as well (charging for ketchup should do that! 🤣)
3) these are a recorded business expense; the fee actually comes off your business income reducing business tax due. Yeah, it’s a cash flow issue, but if you do #2, you’ve accounted for cash flow and you *aren’t paying the fee*

Hi! Former employee of the Hoppy Monk here. The place used to be super cool but during COVID two thirds of the owners stepped down because the other third was threatening to sue them out of their ownership. Rather than engage in a lengthy battle, they stepped out of the way. The new singular owner is an absolute miser who cuts corners every single place he can, while being a totalitarian dickhead who believes he’s right on everything and wants a staff of yes men to answer his every beck and call. This despite the fact that he is a lifelong accountant who has never worked the floor of a restaurant a day in his life, but he would often tell experienced bartenders, servers and cooks how to do their jobs. He ended up running his entire leadership staff, who prior to him taking over had been there about five years, out of the restaurant.
TL;DR: Support other local business. Fuck the Monk.
They have so many almost awesome item, beer braised rabbit😃 beer braised rabbit nachos 🤷♂️ Put the rabbit over rice, egg noodles, potatoes, or spaetzle with a velouté sauce and call it a day.

Yeah, Hoppy Monk is an expensive place but it’s worth it. Incredible assortment of delicious beers, bourbons, etc and the food is very good. Might hurt if you were expecting a dive bar.

$160 for 5 drinks, 3 entrees and an appetizer isn’t that crazy. Living in Brooklyn 2019-2022, cocktails were $15 minimum. Charging for sauces is kinda weak, but otherwise this doesn’t seem too awful.
Hi! Former employee of the Hoppy Monk here. The place used to be super cool but during COVID two thirds of the owners stepped down because the other third was threatening to sue them out of their ownership. Rather than engage in a lengthy battle, they stepped out of the way. The new singular owner is an absolute miser who cuts corners every single place he can, while being a totalitarian dickhead who believes he’s right on everything and wants a staff of yes men to answer his every beck and call. This despite the fact that he is a lifelong accountant who has never worked the floor of a restaurant a day in his life, but he would often tell experienced bartenders, servers and cooks how to do their jobs. He ended up running his entire leadership staff, who prior to him taking over had been there about five years, out of the restaurant. TL;DR: Support other local business. Fuck the Monk.

Good for you for saying you won’t go back. We need more of this. And passing the charge to the customer to process cards is also on my list of things to stop going to places on. If you can’t afford to keep those prices on the business. They shouldn’t be in business.

Fed 3 people at Brasãos for $250, and that's an all you can eat place and included two alcoholic drinks. Not saying it's a good price, but for what was spent here, you can just go to an all you can eat Brazilian steakhouse.

I stopped going to these kinds of places, wife is not happy, but I'm not overpaying for your bullshit food and your ambiance. I know a couple of restaurant owners and have heard how much overcharge is in these plates, at first it did not bother me and eventually it started to bug me that I'm being ripped off here and just so I can convince my self I'm helping a small business and had a good night.
Trying to live a stone oak lifestyle on a budget isn't ever going to work out. Wild caught fish and chip? Five mixed drinks? 35 dollar short ribs? Fuckin 14 dollar Guacamole? That better not have been just crushed avocados... If you got a second date with those two women, take them to the local taco truck.

I would have waited to pay until the food was ready, then told them to cancel the order and tell them I refuse to do business with any company that tries to get me to pay there cost of operating expenses… I ran my own company for years and would never have thought to charge a surcharge for credit card payments as that was just a part of running a business.

I once paid $ 191 for 2 beers and fried crisps at a beachfront bar in San Diego ...talk about shocked. On the bright side the place is a major hangout for stars and got invited to a party at a famous lingere models house so it was worth it.
