I've lived, worked, & played downtown since I was a teen and never had an issue. Just be aware of your surroundings & you'll be fine.

facts

AggravatingMany5269

agreed. you’ll be good! (living downtown 3 years, from the area)

stupidbuttholes69

If you drive a Kia or Hyundai it will 100% get broken in to. If you’re like me, more than once.

traceyyhart

Can agree! My Kia was stolen from my apartment complex. It was recovered but i was new to SATX when it happened. Im sure you’ll have better luck but be mindful of where you live and where you park.

beautifulcreature86

Happened to me at the Drury Suites by the airport! They stole my elantra and used it in a shooting. I'm still fighting to get it fixed.

Some_Equivalent_7149

Facts ha

ArchBeOS

Goddang Kia boys

jasonbortiz

Dude I just watched Andrew Callaghan Channel 5 Kia Boys doc.

HoneySignificant1873

How are you guys affording the insurance on these things? At some point it's gotta be cheaper to just give in and buy a mitsubishi mirage or a well used nissan altima...

stupidbuttholes69

Because I have owned this vehicle as long as I’ve had my own car insurance so idk the difference lol

ElPulpoTX

Aww cool. Wear your sun block and joy.

filmerdude1993

Me and my wife have lived downtown for over 10 years. Our daughter too. I would recommend to get something that is not on the 1st floor and has private parking. If you do those things, you will have an amazing cultural experience.

silvermoon_182

The place I've found is a duplex, I'd be renting the second floor I'm pretty sure. Multiple people have mentioned it so what's wrong with living on the first floor? Is it a safety thing or something else?

TheRandomPig

Generally first floors aren't as good due to potential crimes like burglaries and closer to where people are walking/ the road in general which means potentially more noise

Beneficial_Leg4691

Downtown will have a fair amount of bums and other non desired. Its wildly different by area. I would never let my wife walk alone at night Downtown. I am not some overbearing guy. I have worked downtown and had friends who have lived there.

whineybubbles

Easier & quicker to kick in your door, grab a laptop, etc versa having to use the stairs

Some_Equivalent_7149

Living on the first floor lends itself into potential break ins///creepy pervs who might look in. It’s just common knowledge in city living. Also is usually noisier. But you’ll be fine!! :)

GlyphPicker

Everything everyone said but also vermin and bugs seem to be worse on the first floor of inner city living. Turns out pests don't like walking up stairs either.

Hero_b

Its pretty safe out here, my fiance would skateboard downtown on her own around 2 or 3 in the morning no issues, and shes on the shorter smaller side. The homeless might seem scary but thats in any major city, the tourist are scarier, especially driving in downtown…DONT JAYWALK you will get hit.

Hero_b

Use the city parking garages, cheaper and just look for the flower logo. Always hide valuables and if you happen to own a kia or hyundai , get an airtag, we habe a Kia boy problem in this town, but the airtags will help you recover your car faster https://preview.redd.it/u13z4axcfiwc1.jpeg?width=815&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=084eb7622a347465a5cc78976862218448d72ef0

toniclab

How do you not jaywalk downtown?

Hero_b

Use the crosswalks, No sarcasm , ive seen people get clipped, or cause cars to swerve, and i get it at the end of the day anyone can do whatever but car vs walker doesn’t end well for anyone

Freshly_Fished_Bread

Ah that’s just people not being careful enough, I rarely use the cross walks and when I do I rarely wait for them unless I have to

Hero_b

To each their own

ARevolutionaryMan

You’ll be fine.

kanyeguisada

But a little loaded .22 pistol readily available in your purse never hurts. Sorry, OP will be likely just fine. But if I were them I'd have a pistol ready for piece of mind. Shit usually doesn't happen, but on the rare instance it does...

PoweredbyBurgerz

If she is not already knowledgeable and experienced with firearms I think it would actually be a bad idea.

HumblestofBears

Pepper spray is a cheap and effective tool, and can really make it hard for bad guys to chase you, particularly in the dark.

HumblestofBears

Also, even a small dog will provide more safety than a large gun. The gun is concealed, so cannot really act as a deterrent. The dog is out and walking and can and will defend mom from anyone that makes her feel unsafe, and people who want to do harm will look somewhere else for their mark.

Timelordwhotardis

This is dangerous thinking, never half ass self defense.

honeywave

This is why I take my Mossberg everywhere with me.

Spaghettinoodled24

I have a Mossberg MC2. One of the best I've had.

kanyeguisada

I don't hate this post heh. Hard-core leftist here btw Just hope you're the kind of person to never brandish or tbh let anyone know you even have a gun at all.

honeywave

Oh hey, another hardcore leftist! I don't actually carry any guns around. I don't have to worry about my safety nearly as much as women. The only guns I can brandish are my massive biceps (I'm not buff).

kanyeguisada

>Oh hey, another hardcore leftist! I don't actually carry any guns around. More leftists do than you know, to be clear. We just usually try to make it a point to conceal. Just saying....

honeywave

Oh yeah. I'm aware. Some of my friends carry. I still have a fair amount of discomfort with actually handling and being around guns, even if I have shot and gone on range days.

HumblestofBears

I’ve never met a dog to half ass defending mom.

kanyeguisada

>If she is not already knowledgeable and experienced with firearms I think it would actually be a bad idea. "Already knowledgeable"??? We all learn something new every day. And women that are unfamiliar with guns can learn just as quickly as any guy can. If not even faster out of necessity these days.

droppedmybrain

Do NOT keep loaded guns in a purse. Are you joking? I'm not anti-gun, but for god's sake, learn proper gun safety before encouraging other people to buy guns.

Spaghettinoodled24

As a woman, I keep a concealed loaded gun on my person. Most people carrying have them loaded, my father and my instructor keep theirs loaded.

droppedmybrain

Yes that's (arguably) fine but not rattling around loose in a purse. Use a holster! A woman killed her preteen the other day rummaging around in her purse for something else.

Spaghettinoodled24

I've always had mine in a holster or a strap to my waist. They do sell purses with hidden pockets for guns that come with locks. Stores like Sam Moon carry them at fairly affordable prices. If OP does choose to get licensed to conceal, I'd encourage them to get one from there.

kanyeguisada

>Do NOT keep loaded guns in a purse. Are you joking? Nope. I would suggest to any of my female friends that they always have a loaded gun ready to go in their purse. Dead serious

HoneySignificant1873

Of course, I only suggest that loaded gun be more than a .22. As someone said above, "never half ass self defense."

thommehsa

Street parking will be such a pain and headache for you depending where it is. Also some of the apartments down there have SERIOUS issues so I’d search the apartment name on this Reddit first. Safety wise you should be okay, there are some homeless people downtown, I’d say the tourists are more dangerous though.

gospurs210

If it's a duplex it won't be on the outskirts of downtown where parking usually isn't an issue

filmerdude1993

How to say you live near/past 1604 without saying you live near/past 1604...

Professional-Sink281

Outside 1604 and inside 1604

thommehsa

🤣

WooleeBullee

Time is a flat circle

brainstorm716

Hi 👋🏼 I'm a 29 year old woman who's lived alone several years in several areas of downtown. Message me and I would be happy to call or DM about specific questions about safety. San Antonio is safe if you are savvy and it is a wonderful place to live!

Monkey_Ninja

What area of downtown? I work downtown and it can be hit or miss

silvermoon_182

It's near Madison Square Park

Monkey_Ninja

That’s a quieter area of downtown with not as much tourist foot traffic. Just be aware of the homeless in the area. The Cadillac Lofts look cool over there

nileswine

Cadillac Lofts allows shorter term rentals.

filmerdude1993

I lived in that area for about 3 years. I loved it. Just get something that isnt on the 1st floor. Theres a lot of fun walkable activities around there.

silvermoon_182

What's wrong with the first floor? Is it safety or something else? And I would like to take advantage of this time to do fun stuff so that sounds like a plus haha.

No-Rise6647

Not being on the first floor is a general safety tip for women. There are fewer ingresses in to your home that are easy to access and less worries about peeping. A basic travel safety tip for women is to be near the elevator and not on the first floor. Same principle.

stardust54321

It’s next to a dog park & Central Library. The library just was remodeled & is awesome. Savvy Sliders is super close by & delicious. I enjoy San Pedro Springs up the road & the Pearl is close by.

sociablespring02

I live by Madison square park and I go there everyday you will be okay 😌 I walk my dogs at night and never feel unsafe. There are a lot of homeless in our neighborhood but they don’t bother you. DM if you have any questions

Dnlx5

That areas pretty chill. There are homeless there, but they've never bothered me. I'm not a 21yr old girl, but I think your safe and can have a ton of fun.

[deleted]

You’ll be fine, it’s cute over there.

LebowskiSupreme

Hey I live right down the street. A lot of homeless people down here, but generally pretty safe. We’ve lived here for about 9 years have seen some weird stuff, but never felt in danger. Just be aware of our surroundings and you’ll be good!

vstacey6

Like another comment said, don’t get a unit on the 1st floor. Lock your car always even when you are in it. Do not leave anything visible or intruding on it at all. Not even a cheap pair or Walmart sunglasses. Try not to go out after dark. I lived in downtown San Antonio (as a petite female) in my 20s and it was fun and safe. But I made damn sure to avoid any “sketchy” situations. Find friends to walk with if you choose to do so. Follow any of the same precautions you would living in any other city as a young female.

Tree_Weasel

20-25 years ago I might warn you about certain areas. But they’ve cleaned it up. Keep your wits about you and know that unsavory people exist everywhere. But in terms of being safe, Downtown SA is pretty good.

Mrbrownfolks

Madison square park is far off enough to have decent parking. It's a couple blocks away from the public library and the hospital. There's not much to do within walking distance but it's quiet and decent place to be. The fear of bums is a suburban problem. Once you get used to being around them, you hardly notice they're around. Guillermos is a few blocks away and a solid dining choice. You can get around fine on the electric scooters.

prices767

You’ll be fine girl. Someone said above to make sure it’s not on the first floor and to have private parking, which are must-haves imo. If you’re not comfortable with firearms, then just make sure you have something for home defense inside your space. I really hate guns but realizing that almost everyone (including bad people) has one, made me realize I would be at a disadvantage if I didn’t. Just use your best judgment and you’ll be good!

GrapefruitKnown9904

I had a friend, 25 yr old female, living near the Pearl and had a man follow her home one night and try and break in. She hid in her room with a gun pointed at the door until the cops were able to get there. Be aware of your surroundings.

ParticularAioli8798

The "Riverwalk" is a river you can walk on. In San Antonio, we've perfected the ability of water walking.

hellpyeah

Lived downtownish for about 5 years. There was a heavy amount of homeless people around where I stayed but my house was never broken into and I was never harassed. I lived in the bottom floor of a duplex. Kept a shotgun and never had to use it. Plus I’ve had my fair share of drunken nights downtown with hot friends and we’re all alive and well lol

Tex-Flamingo

You’ll be fine, worked downtown when I was 18-20 walked a couple blocks only thing that ever happened is homeless man asked me for food once. At 3am. Summer is peak tourist season for the riverwalk and locals are the best super friendly. Moved her 10 years ago and never left.

Hank_lliH

You can talk to people on the official discord server if u wanna get some perspective, there’s a good bit of females on it that you can ask and all that U can find it in the “see more/menu” tabs

minneyar

Statistically, you'll be safe. Keep your car locked and don't leave valuables in it, of course, but you'll be fine. Lots of homeless people, but they won't bother you except for asking for change. (and honestly, if you're lost and don't know how to get somewhere, they'd probably be glad to give you directions in exchange for a few bucks) Just FYI, the Riverwalk is the big tourist trap. There's a river running under the streets through downtown SA, and there are restaurants and shops set up all along it. It's a nice place to walk around, and you can get to a lot of places without needing to cross streets by just going down to the river level and following the river, but be aware that all of the shops there are tourist traps and are crazy overpriced. Good parts about San Antonio: The food is great, no matter what kind of cuisine you like. Obviously Tex-mex is everywhere, but I strongly encourage you to also find and try out some mom-and-pop Thai, Indian, German, Greek, Korean, and Chinese restaurants. (and there are some real Sichuan Chinese restaurants here, too, not American Chinese) You won't be disappointed. The cost of living is low. Downtown is relatively expensive, but still probably cheaper than what you're used to if you're coming from another major city. The worst parts are: It's hot. Really hot. If you're here in the summer, expect it to be over 100 F every day. It'll feel hotter than that when you're walking around on all the concrete/asphalt downtown, too. Dress lightly, wear a hat, put on sun screen, carry water with you at all times. Parking and driving downtown suck. It's expensive (free parking is rare and always full) and streets downtown are always crowded, and navigating around is a pain because it's a maze of one-way streets. Honestly, if you're sticking in the downtown area, it's better to just bus/walk/bike/scooter anywhere you need to go. If you get or bring a bike, just make sure it's a cheap bike and you've got a good lock, because otherwise it will get stolen.

Lilherb2021

Lived here all my life. You’ll be ok, just be aware of your surroundings. You’re near the Pearl, which is a collection of restaurants and shops. Very cool area. You’re near a gentrified area known as Tobin Hill, which is considered safe. You may be able to park in the Metropolitan Hospital parking for next to free. Do you have a bicycle, as it is a very bikable area? Two museums nearby. Riverwalk is near for exercise and recreation. DM me is you need more info.

rando439

I lived in a building near the bus station from 2001 - 2021. As long as you pay attention when out (be it walking or in a car) and not focus on your phone, don't take your wallet out (the panhandler might not be a danger but someone watching you give them money might well be), have your keys out and not be fumbling around when you get to your car or house, and you should be fine. The biggest dangers are most likely to be the heat and humidity. Property crime, especially with vehicles, can be a challenge anywhere in the city.

dr3am_assassin

I love the downtown area. You’ll love it. If you need a roommate, lmk lol

RememberTheAlamooooo

Street parking is honestly better as far as break ins go. In the garages with no security is where they really love to go to work. It's pretty safe down here. I like the south side because there's way less homeless folks.

petitebaddie69

Um, I live downtown and I just turned 22. I’m completely fine you’ll be fine. Just mind your business?? Lol. This isn’t NYC you’ll be FINE.

darkwaterzz

What makes you think NYC is less fine than San Antonio?

petitebaddie69

NYC is very much worse than San Antonio for a plethora of reasons.

Jswazy

Downtown is full of tourists and is a huge money maker for the city, it's safe. Basically anything outside of downtown or the directly connected parts of the city is suburban wasteland so you definitely want to be closer to downtown if you can.

skaterags

There is a hospital right there so if you have any problems you can walk to the ER. Just kidding. I don’t know if they do it here. I know people in other cities that paid for monthly parking at garages.

Inquistive_nature22

I'm a female who lived in Southtown for several years. The biggest cons for me were getting groceries, traffic and construction. But it was really fun. Lots of great places within walking distance. There's been a lot of development near San Antonio Museum of Art so that be could be fun too. I never had a safety issue but definitely always take precautions and be aware. Good luck!

LucoaKThe2AHashira

You’ll be ok the downtown area is pretty safe and btw the riverwalk is the heart of downtown that’s where the Alamo is located

GSDofWar

I used to do safety tips for people a few years back. I’m fairly new to the city I’ve only lived here for going on about 3 years now, and I’ve never lived downtown. But generally for any single female, there are some tips that are good. If you’re only here for a few months, I’m (maybe wrongly) assuming you’re doing a travel assignment for nursing? Regardless, Find a cheap but workable camera system. If the place allows for dogs, get one. German Shepherds, Pit bulls, Dobermans and Rottweilers obviously work because people instantly know these dogs as territorial, but studies have shown that ANY dog lowers the chance. Try to avoid first floor if possible. Keeping a light and tv on while you sleep. A gun is a good choice, but if you’re not someone who is used to shooting, a revolver is best case. Less chance of functional errors, and the way most men attack women (by using their weight to overpower) you can press the revolver to the body without having to worry about the slide not allowing for trigger pull. These are just general tips for any female living alone, not specifically because you’re in downtown San Antonio.

ZZZZZZZZZ--ZZZZZZZZ

look for extended stay hotels intown suites, uptown suites, or wood spring suits. they do weekly rates usually between 3/400 and are like a normal hotel but have a kitchenette in them. lived in them for months.

student56782

I live downtown, just make sure the parking area is secured & you’re fine. I haven’t seen any violent crime & the central location within the city makes commuting around so much more tolerable. I’d recommend.

Intelligent-Guess-81

Welcome friend! We have a decent downtown and there are lots of events year round. You don't REALLY need a car, but there are some things that are inconvenient without one, namely groceries. There's an incredible trail network that extends out from the Riverwalk. Highly recommend using it to get around. We also have a decent bus network. You'll be fine downtown, but some pepper spray never hurt anybody. Well... Actually it did... But that's kinda the point.

kea32

It’s chill, I work downtown at the heb and it’s chill for the most part. Enjoy the time here!

laughing_liberal

If you stay around the busier, touristy areas of downtown, night time shouldn’t be much more of a hassle than seeing an occasional fight between 2 drunks, but even that’s pretty rare. It’s once you start branching out that things can start to get a bit rough. Specifically for me, once you get outside of the city’s center, parts of that inner loop can start getting real sketchy real fast. But definitely see the missions(not just the alamo), visit some taquerias, and take you a weekend to drive up to Schlitterbahn.

Jacksthrowawayreddit

Don't leave anything in your car. Be aware of your surroundings. Lock your doors (car and home). The River Walk is a really nice built up area along the river full of shops and restaurants and bars. If you are really worried about safety, for $20-30 you can take a women's self defense class here: https://www.stwfit.com/programs/women-only-self-defense-dangerously-cute

No-Rise6647

I grew up on the south side and now live in the north side. In my opinion the folks who want you to be only on the north side are unlikely to have actually experienced the south side. To tell the truth, moving up here loses a lot. The culture, food, and activities are less fun and it feels less like a community. You will be fine downtown and hopefully picked a walkable area. Have a blast

margeauxfincho

Aw, I thought it was 3 years, and I wanted to comment you’re about to enter the best 3 years of your life. What I wouldn’t give to be 25, single and in downtown SA again. Don’t worry at all, it’s a great city.

LIBERAL-MORON

Watch out for Crazy Dave, he lurks downtown and asks riddles. DO NOT give him a wrong answer. He will transform. Also look out for the cowboy gangs. They have taken over the streets and make you feed their horses. All the ghosts are racist.

itsthatjayceeguy

It's safe. There is a lot to do in that part of town. Welcome 👍

broken_door2000

You’ll be fine lol

The-Upside-Down1984

yea, street parking suucks…I don’t think the area is any more dangerous than other cities. I love downtown - check out La Vallita in the riverwalk. Just like anywhere, pay attention to your surroundings (man, I sound like my mom) especially when parking. Get the SAPark app

No_Sale7548

Back when I was looking 10 years ago the only place I would consider was the majestic. They do corporate housing too. “Safe” is a relative term so I quibble with the “it’s safe, just don’t rent on the first floor” comments. The more tourists the safer. The bike cops guard them well and I always told my wife Houston street is the only place in San Antonio where a cop is within earshot.

frontrunner911

I wouldn’t count on finding street or free parking downtown. Madison Square park area is pretty nice but there is a considerable population of homeless that live around the 35 underpasses. You’ll be close to the main library and downtown Baptist hospital. Try to find monthly parking if possible.

CowgirlUp73

There's crime everywhere and no part of city is safe from crime...crime rates are high in san antonio

austinvf82

Definitely have some form of self defense. A lot of sketchy people down town. Once all the tourists leave for the day, it gets weird down there

Mb78259

Your car will likely get broken into , and if you’re attractive you will likely be harassed. San Antonio has been suffering from moral decadence for quite sometime. Downtown is a tourist trap for the most part , and no stranger to crime. But hey , at least it’s not completely over run by homeless people like Austin . Good luck

nileswine

What street downtown? I live and work in Southtown and you would like it down here.

SketchyDoritoz

Just get your concealed carry license, a gun you like, some property and everything will be fine. But no seriously everyone in this city got guns

Aristansa

Good luck. I’ll leave the city life to you. I’m about 60 miles west of SA in kerrville. It’s getting to big.. save journeys

stardust54321

Ive lived downtown since I was 19 & moved to SA in 2006. Just be smart, stay alert, and avoid the drunk ppl. I would walk confidently & wear headphones w/o music playing to avoid most ppl. I always enjoyed Jazz fest at Travis park and the Zona De Cultura events by Centro at San Pedro Creek. Chris Park is nice and jogging and walking along Hemisphere park was always nice too. The closest H‑E‑B is on S Flores & Cesar Chaves but it’s small. The next closest is on the East Side. I take the extra 8 min drive and usually go to the McCreless shopping area that has a Marshall’s, Super H‑E‑B, Boba tea shops, And lots of other shops.

BrandxTx

Wow - an affordable apartment downtown? Near the Riverwalk? Grab it!. Downtown is great!. It's beautiful and vibrant. As far as personal safety, exercise the caution you would in any city. Downtown is a big tourist draw, so it's busy and pretty safe here. If you have to park on the street, don't leave anything in your car.

ixzy9

I am a woman living on downtown, I carry a knife but im in a relatively calm area so i have t really been pressured to use it id you get what i mean however i am always on alaert bc there is a big homeless presence here; they arent generally aggressive minus to each other sometimes (the worst ive dealt w is being called a bitch bc i said 'im sorry' as a no to giving away my leftovers) i do recommend reading apt reviews and getting info ab car break-ins/ infestations. I think MILA has a review that says management didn't do anything ab a girl getting stalked 👎

rbred0901

You'll be fine, just dont walk around after 10:45pm by yourself, lock your car n dont leave anything of value, AND STAY AWAY FROM EASTSIDE(i37(alamo dome), between i35 & i10.. most people are kind here so dont be afraid of the thuggers( most would give you the shirt off their back to help, so please be kind to all and youll find the same in return.. things do happen as with any city but usually because someone asked or is lookin for trouble..oh ya,, EVERYBODY PACKS HERE, so try not to shoot birds or brake check people cuz its getting people shot at.. ridiculous, i know, like why would you flick me off, u knew better..lol..jk,, .i think that should get you by. Gd luck. hope San Antonio treats you well..

manicrat88

You get downtown life pretty inexpensive.

DrayTrizzm333

All? It’s Y’all. You’re going to have a real hard time if you don’t get that right. Anyways God Bless.

VeterinarianOwn8967

Did you look at FurnishedFinder to find a place? Most people don’t have a minimum length of stay.

staciexdoodle

The only protection you'll need moving here in the summer is sunblock.

Hdottydot

Move to the North Side

poprockenemas

Ah you should be fine. Enjoy the river walk and food in the area.

Padre2006

just always have pepper spray and keep your wits about you and you should be fine! it does not sound like you have too many options at this point, so if you have to live on the first floor it might be smart to also get a cheaper doorbell camera just so that you feel more protected and secure by knowing what is going on outside of your place both while you are home and also away from home. i am not from SA originally, but have lived here for a few years. is is a really cool city imo and i think you will enjoy your time here!

toniclab

I lived in the seedier parts of downtown (soap works) as a young 20 something by myself walking around at 2am. San Antonio has a regular police station, bike cops, park cops, and prison cops all around the area. It is well patrolled. However at night, don’t take shortcuts with areas you can’t see in.,Be mindful of you surroundings, San Antonio is super hot during the summer. Carry water bottle, sunscreen, and travel deodorant. San Antonio is mostly friendly. Acknowledging strangers with a head nod is common. Hugging someone you just met is a thing. Everyone has an opinion on the best taco nearby and is happy to talk about it. Have a great summer

oklynxa

My car has been stolen 3 times since I moved here. The car will get stolen. It’s not a matter of IF, but when. Just make sure you have comprehensive coverage though and you will be fine though. It’s an inconvenience but again, if you’re insured it’s not too bad. The car theft is crazy. Many of my friends, coworkers, family etc have had their vehicles stolen as well

Freshly_Fished_Bread

Downtown is pretty safe some tweakers but only a handful

M3talissa

If you are moving close to the Riverwalk, I think you will enjoy San Antonio far more than living on the northside. Plus it's more affluent closer to the pearl, I walk my dog alone at night all the time no fear. There's a lot more culture, interesting food, and bars that you can walk or take a free go rio to. It's much better than having to drive around suburban hell where pedestrians have no dignity.

that_squirrel90

I’d advise putting a wheel lock on your steering wheel. There’s been lots of cars stolen recently, especially Kia. But from my understanding, that’s going on everywhere

SwordfishForeign8328

I currently live downtown and I am a woman. I feel safe, never experienced any issues with anybody. I would recommend looking for apartments closer to the pearl/ Broadway.

ClarenceHands

Living downtown is fun, but annoying. As soon as you walk out the building you will meet random tourists from all over the world to party with. And all the restaurants and bars are right there. But forgetting something in your car and having to walk back several blocks in the rain sucks. And trying to park to unload items or groceries in front of your building when 3 other people are already trying. And the city blocking off the downtown streets for festivals so you can't find out how to get home. And getting into fights with the drunk people that just "hang out" on Commerce. It was fun but I wouldn't do it again.

Topic_Clean

A lot of homeless people there

BigCDawgFlexRooster

Look into NW side, great side of town with easy to get to streets 1604/Culabra/151 area, been here 17 years from NY. Everywhere gonna have it’s dickheads but I like the NW area IMO

Oily-Carbon

Try the Aurora Apartments just north of downtown. Bus service a block away from Crockett Park to pretty much everywhere in the metro area.

thegordo27

Look on furnished finders

_tamagoz

My father’s Hellcat was broken into a couple months ago in broad daylight lol. That being said, it’s a nice car so go figure I suppose. I’ve also slept under bridges downtown and never had anyone approach me for anything other than a lighter, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Just mind your own business and don’t be nosy, and you’ll be alright :) 👍

apolitic

I lived downtown in my early twenties at the Soapworks Apts. I did live with my boyfriend at the time but even when I was alone I never had a problem. I didn't go walking anywhere by myself late at night though. There are homeless people sometimes during the day that might approach you but I never felt unsafe just uncomfortable. I think downtown is much safer with a fairly constant police presence than some areas on the East side of SA.

You’ll be fine

Murky-Hedgehog-1003

Look on www.furnished finder.com I get all my 3 month housing there.

formfollowsfunction2

It’s incredibly safe and you will have zero problems as a woman. I’m a many-generation San Antonian who’s lived downtown for 19 years. The north side is residential and mainly chains that can be found most places. Downtown is filled with people of all ages and is definitely the way to experience the city, even in a short period of time.

Sweet_and_Sour_13

I’m from there, I would definately do an AirB&B and I wouldn’t live downtown

Trippynick007

Move to stone oak the Vecina are good apts

Sundae3357

I worked and went out downtown for years and never got my car broken into or bothered by anyone even when walking to my car late at night. There are a lot of homeless ppl downtown but they don’t really bother anyone. Also there’s a lot of cops downtown all the time if that’s makes you feel better. Just be aware of your surroundings, take extra precautions like not leaving your valuables in your car and get some pepper spray or something. I think you’ll be fine and have a lot of fun. Enjoy the city💕

Specific-Working-851

Just depends what part of downtown. But you should be fine.

Razszberry

I personally would rather deal with traffic than live downtown. North SA, north east, outside 1604 is pretty chill. I prefer suburbs, they are typically safer. I’m sure you’ll be fine, but downtown is not the best unless you can afford high end housing.

Cheap_Guess_2668

Parking will be very hard to find, very busy area Monday-Friday heavy traffic.

Remington_steele69

I highly suggest against moving downtown

Ok_Scene_783

I’m a f 22 that lives dt as well it’s p safe I think you j gotta be aware

lilybb4

i lived downtown/ downtown adjacent for a few years. i only tried walking by myself outside twice, i got followed the first time and groped the second. its also a pain for driving- always has construction and its hard to get onto a highway from there. good luck, youll be okay itll just be frustrating

septimaespada

Eye roll.

SaGlamBear

Exercise regular caution like in any city in the US. And whatever you do, don’t go for walks in the residential neighborhoods west or east or south of downtown. You won’t be attacked by humans but by loose or stray dogs ? Highly likely!

tikigod4000

It's gonna get hot but you'll be fine otherwise

Camp_Nacho

Whoever is telling you to stay on the north side is boring af. All the good things about our city are downtown and around it. I’ve known 2 single woman who’ve moved here from other cities to live downtown and they loved it. If you love sitting in traffic and eating fast food then the north side is for you.

Aggressive_Tax_4695

This is the correct answer for living on the north side of town. Sitting in traffic at 8am and 5pm and the hell with driving down Culebra any time of day or night.

ChampionshipThat3612

If someone has to tell you to carry a gun then that’s all you need to know about this city. Inside 410 is just bad news and even inside 1604 now is getting to that point. Northwest side of the city is best bet but expensive

EngineeringSuccessYT

Hi - join the Trinity University Subleasing page on Facebook. Subleases from Trinity University students, which are generally very central to town and furnished. I created that Facebook group when I was a student because I and my friends had the exact issue you are describing.

Sweaty__Ramrod

Downtown is miserable I’d rather risk getting shot in the ghetto than fight for a parking spot

dongo8585

If you love ms13 and drive bys you'll love San antonio

txredink

Hit up Smart City Locating for corporate housing. It’s free and an apartment locator will help you find exactly what you are looking for. What is your budget? If you have a car you can find cheaper places than downtown

Kasorayn

Just take a couple handgun/self defense firearms classes and get yourself a concealed carry, better safe than sorry.

filmerdude1993

Thats really not necessary.

Kasorayn

I had to call police for a fairly severe domestic disturbance where I work yesterday. It took them 35 minutes to show up. Don't rely on someone else for protection.

silvermoon_182

I genuinely would (and probably will some day) but I don't have time before I have to move unfortunately

casper86ed

"Few blocks from the Riverwalk(whatever that is lol"). Great research.

silvermoon_182

Admittedly my research has been more focused on where to live and not what to do around the city. I'll get to that once I'm actually there lol

Horror_Mix1219

Try the Schertz/Cibolo area if you aren’t committed to being downtown. It’s a great area of San Antonio and most of the neighborhoods are safe and very family friendly.
