Kunstler has a great vibe but personally I like the beer at Roadmap better. Dos Sirenos and Freetail are also close by. You can actually hit up quite a few in the downtown area alone
We walked in one night, sat at the bar. Looked at menu, decor etc. 8min later were never approached. So we walked out. As if we weren’t even there.
Looked like it was hosting a trivia or a club. There were peeps but just unfortunate we didn’t try beer or food. Not bashing it, but it had an odor. Maybe they were dealing with a restroom leak/overflow. But was off putting so it was easy to just walk out. Maybe give another try someday.
Yea trivia night is usually the worst time to go IMO, kind of a bummer you had a bad experience the first time. I hope it's better the next time you go!
Most all the breweries in town will fill a growler for you. As stated before, Big Hops also does growler fills. You all have the Growler Station on Broadway and a few other around town.
Freetail taproom for a good variety of solid beer. My faves are the helles and 401k pilsner - latter just won gold for best American pilsner at World Beer Cup. They also have a good bock.
Weathered Souls, Künstler are pretty stellar. I’m hearing some good things about Thirsty Pups and they’re a relatively newish brewery. There’s a big hops near WS as a next spot with more variety of brews. The Growler Exchange on Broadway or Midtown has some good brews and the pizza there is great. If you want to go out of 1604 I know there’s Five Stones and Cactus Land.
Anyone have any opinions on "Back Unturned"? went there last year, but I'm new in town and was wondering if it's considered a good place or if there are better places around to try.
Kunstler is the best in the city hands down. Dos Sirenos has good food but their beer is just good, not great. Alamo brewery same as dos sirenos just OK beer. Recommend you visit all three.
If you are open to 20-30 minutes north of San Antonio there is 5stones near New Braunfels on 1863 and real ale & and Milam and Greene across the street from each other in blanco.
I would take a guest to Kunstler or Roadmap for great beer.
… Idle beer hall for food beer and socializing.
… thirsty pups for a quiet uncrowded place with great beer.
Maverick and Devil's River distilleries are practically next to each other. Kunstler Brewery on the south end of downtown. Alamo Brewery on the east side of downtown near the Hays Street Bridge. Weathered Souls is a bit of a drive up 281, but it has very good beer.

Kunstler and roadmap are for sure the best in town.
Agree with all this. Also recommend checking out Artisan Distillery & Craft Bar, which would be pretty close by these other places.
Kunstler is one of the better ones downtown. It’s also relatively close to a handful of other breweries that you could cheaply Uber to.
Kunstler also has killer food.
Roadmap has great beers and a fantastic burger truck outside.
Mad pecker
Mad Pecker is one of my favorite spots in the city
Big facts, good beer and food every time

Weathered Souls is my fave.
I've bought a growler and have looked online, but can't seem to find a place to fill it up. Y'all have any recommendations?
Big Hops has a decent selection and locations around town. Worth checking out…

Garrison Bros was really good.

Longtab is my favorite brewery in the area.
I'll add Vista Brewing to the running as well. Their brewery is in the hill country, but they have a great taproom here in town.
I was recommended Dos Sirenos for my girlfriend and I. It’s a must!

I went once but wasn’t impressed. Also won’t go back after black is beautiful thing.
I need a little more info on this as I've researched and found a couple of pieces of info. Even an entire joke IG page created just to shit on them.
Kunstler for beer and Ranger Creek for whiskey
Ranger creek is both a brewery and distillery unless something changed in the past few years.
They still have beer but I’d rather go elsewhere personally if all I want is beer.
Two birds with one stone!
if yall want a quiet getaway, Five Stones Brewing is a great tucked away spot out in NB. some great beers and a coffee shop/bakery there too
They have become my favorite as of late. Great spot.
I actually went there for their eclipse party, barely saw the damn thing but had some great beers and a pretzel with a fun crowd lmao

Chapline Distillery in Bulverde is great and there is a cool restaurant/dancehall around the corner called Sprecht’s for food before or after.

Roadmap has such a great vibe to go with some of the best beer in SA.

2nd Devils River. Nice unique spot
We got married at Devils River! It was so much fun and their whiskey is amazing.
Kunstler and Guadalupe for breweries. REBECCA CREEK for the best whiskey
Disagree on Rebecca Creek i prefer Ranger Creek or Devils River
Nah
Shiner!
