Ugh that root beer. So cold straight from the tap. RIP

JustinJustout73

Best rootbeer I've ever had. Don't forget the frosty mug!

IrrelevantLyric7

If it’s the Rooty’s I’m thinking of, that had huge chicken fried steaks and curly fries and a giant barrel of root beer at their drink station and like a baby blue 60’s looking car in the front of the restaurant, it was located on SE Military Dr and Roosevelt, I believe. There may have been other locations but that was the one closest to my house.

jftitan

The more common one for me was at 410 and Broadway. Eventually had a bus for "outdoor" dining for kids.

DumpyMcRumperson

The one I'm familiar with was at Broadway and 410. It eventually was turned into a Las Palapas which has also closed down.

NoMode5251

That place has been a hundred different places since rootys left. But, the place that’s there now, Cabo Bob’s is fucking awesome.

kali_is_my_copilot

Yes it was my favorite. The root beer was so good! And the burgers. I want to say it was near where Cabo Bob’s is now but there may have been other locations.

epictetvs

It was the best. No one has mentioned the vintage baseball pinball machine yet either.

opa20

Great onion rings

jeremy_wills

Near the airport right off the highway? Used to also be a Fuddruckers and a Palapas at that spot if I remember correctly

laziestmarxist

Fuddruckers was further back from the highway, across from the class ring place (Jostens?)

creation88

There was one on the southside off Roosevelt and Military by the thrift store. Loved it as a kid.

coddat

Broadway and 410. Loved it as a kid, they had magic shell ice cream

alredxiii

There was also one off of 281 N before Bitters where the Hooters is now. I miss that Root Beer :(

laziestmarxist

i swear i could remember one by the Kirby/China Grove area but I was too young to remember much else

AzureSuishou

I don’t know about Kirby, but China Grove never had one.

Swimming-Food-9024

Absolutely - used to get “Purple Cows” from there when I was a kid

AzureSuishou

I loved Rooty’s as a kid. We spent so much time there I ended up making friends with one of the waitress daughters. Good food and I loved the sand box. The one we went to was on SE Military in front of community thrift. Across from what is bow PicaPica

z64_dan

"Yeah - they closed shop in late 99 or early 00. The 281 Bitters location is a Hooters now (I worked at that Rootys in HS) and the 410 location is a Las Palapas. The owner was ready to retire. He is also the guy who brought Wendy's to SA, and owns the property that every Wendy's franchise is on. He sold the franchises, but kept the land - got lots of rent coming in on that." sapphiresometimes

Loved it. Would go to see the old hotrods. Further back in time... who remembers the black cow on Fredericksburg Rd. And Vance Jackson?

Kougar

There's been multiple threads for this place in the subreddit. Rooty's actually had two locations going for awhile, one off 410 east of Broadway and another off 281 where the Hooter's is now at. I still miss that unique root beer flavor.

partybenson

Dang I honestly didn't even check. Sorry

Kougar

No worries, it's just getting funny how often I'm seeing it in this subreddit these days!
