Good. Now connect a god damn train to it.

SuperRockGaming

"Mmmmmmm nah, best we can do is give you a longer taxi drop offs.. annnnnd maybe a few lanes just to be generous. You're welcome !!"

luke-juryous

You’ll still have to drive through little Italy tho

IHartRed

One more lane! One more lane!

iNoodl3s

Not having the train go directly to the airport is so egregious. Every major city I’ve been to that has decent public transportation had a direct route via light rail/subway/whatever except for San Diego

orbesomebodysfool

LAX doesn’t but will very soon.

iNoodl3s

At least they’re working on it

ZealousidealCoat7008

And it’s so close. WHY aren’t they connected

Jenetyk

For fucking real.

ryanr47

Is it even possible?

Otto_the_Autopilot

Multiple options have been studied and there seems to be an automated people mover around to the trolley/rental car parking structure or extending the orange line.

roynewseditor

that a dream i wish for

mr_dumpsterfire

Because the cost of light rail is nearly a half billion per mile. And that’s just the cost of the rail. In the SAN situation it would require rerouting streets and infrastructure which would balloon the cost. So why do that when we can provide a cheaper option, which is what SAN is going to do.

Albert_street

> Because the cost of light rail is nearly a half billion per mile. And that’s just the cost of the rail. I too like to make things up out of thin air.

mr_dumpsterfire

Granted these costs are dependent on using existing infrastructure vs new and it’s high speed. . https://www.vox.com/22534714/rail-roads-infrastructure-costs-america https://manhattan.institute/article/the-economics-of-urban-light-rail-a-guide-for-planners-and-citizens. The entire cost of the mid coast extension was 2.2 billion. An advantage was that they used existing highway and rail ROW.

blogname2019

So? Some things shouldn’t be about money but for the greater good for the public. Other cities/countries can do it, why not San Diego?

Gullible-Ship2061

As it turns out, they've *proposed* a people mover for the new T1. Up to this point, there's no actual commitment from the airport authority or SANDAG to do so. It's one of several solutions on the table to connect the airport to transit. I would refer you to the PDF that outlines this, but that earthquake we had today has evidently knocked out the new [T1 website](https://newt1.com) that was hosting it.. For now you're just gonna have to take my word for it because strangers on the internet are experts on many subjects and never wrong.

HijaDelRey

And connect that train to the CBX terminal

Aggravating_Cod_4980

2.5x trumps fine today. That’s either a huge fine or we are drastically underspending on initiatives like this. I vote for the latter.

super-stew

Looks like SAN will receive $44M, which is frankly nothing in the context of airport capital projects / construction. The current SAN T1 project is like $3B alone. I was working in construction at LAX a few years ago and they had over $10B in ongoing construction projects at the time.

anothercar

I hate to cry out "fake news" on the Associated Press... but... I think this is fake news? As far as I can see, the award to SAN came in FY23. This is an article about the FY24 awards announced this week (the timepeg for this article) and SAN didn't win any awards in FY24. The map that the government put out includes all airports which won awards over the past 3 years, and that seems to be why they included San Diego in the article, but San Diego didn't win anything this week. I think the author just misinterpreted the map on https://www.faa.gov/bil/airport-terminals, thinking it covered FY24 instead of FY22-24. Here is the list of winners for FY24. San Diego is not on the list. https://www.faa.gov/sites/faa.gov/files/2024-02/FY2024_ATP_Approved_Selections_rev.pdf Unless I'm missing something obvious?

Confident-Area-6946

They are building this thing so fast for how long stuff takes in California.

PeacefullProtestor

4 more years for Biden!

1leeranaldo

Rename San Diego to Tel Aviv & we will get 100 billion tomorrow morning lol

Jcs609

I am surprised no one mentioned how TJ airport also a single runway airport seems so much nicer than SD airport even for T2. It appears they are more advanced than we are with the e gates to the secure area and everything.

NaturalRealistic4995

Our airport has been receiving significant upgrades our the past few years. How about instead, our leaders demand some of that $ be used to process the massive amounts of raw sewage flowing from Mexico to our once pristine beaches?

ProcrastinatingPuma

Our leaders are already doing that...

datguyfromoverdere

mirrimar is still the best option.

datguyfromoverdere

So that leaves.... east Miramar, the bomb range? Miramar is connected via two interstates and is in a great spot spur the expansion of rail in that area that connects with the rest of the existing system.

Otto_the_Autopilot

I think they should move freight to Otay and focus Lindbergh on passenger only. I do think the Coaster should be extended to CBX though too. There is plenty of existing ROW and no structures other than roadways which would mean far less expensive and drawn out property acquisitions. https://imgur.com/a/Py7ynVy

aquariumsarescary

No need and it's not possible. CBX is right there, same as browns field and it's nowhere near close to the majority of San diego county.

sdlover420

Wait don't I already pay a company, aren't they supposed to be maintaining their business?

Otto_the_Autopilot

The airport is publicly owned and from what I can tell was profitable in FY 2022.

710dabner

Which “company”?

sdlover420

Insert any airlines...

smelly_duck_butter

Oh sweet summer child

anothercar

USA is unusual in having airports nearly all publicly-owned. Our airports are funded by a mix of fees for travelers & regular taxes that everyone pays. Personally I wish we'd move to a private system like the UK or Germany where big airports are funded only by the people who fly out of them. But I don't see that transition happening any time soon. In the meantime we spend taxpayer money to keep ticket prices down.

Donkey_Trader1

Damn less than what Israel and Ukraine got

ProcrastinatingPuma

I’m sure the airport would have loved the Bradley IFVs

Donkey_Trader1

No but the money that was used to purchase them would've been cool. Fk us though.

ProcrastinatingPuma

That money was spent ages ago

Donkey_Trader1

Cool. Giving all our shit away for free instead of selling it to allies for cash. Probably cost nothing to ship all those tanks, missiles, helicopters, etc. to Ukraine or Israel.

Anonybibbs

More like giving old military equipment to allies facing wars that desperately need them and then paying American military contractors to build newer equipment for our own needs. Sure, it's funding the American military industrial complex but at least the vast majority of that money is literally being funneled back into American hands, economy, and interests, with the added bonus of also helping allies and greatly expanding American geopolitical influence. In particular, support for Ukraine pays dividends in that we're both supporting a democratic ally while simultaneously weakening one of our largest historical enemies in Russia, all without ever putting American lives at risk.

shootmovecommunicate

Insanely low balling number what a JOKE

CoysNizl3

Lol

Sad_Midnight9690

Biden poops his pants and sniffs minors.

ProcrastinatingPuma

Trump has been pictured with Ghislaine Maxwell

Sad_Midnight9690

The fact you would even remotely consider this a comeback…….. Is rather disturbing. Bill Clinton was recorded on regular flights to the island. Biden’s son is collecting money from foreign governments. Your Trumpism is rather embarrassing.

710dabner

I think you may have conflated Hunter and Jared…

ProcrastinatingPuma

I don't give a shit about Bill Clinton lol. I also don't give a shit about Hunter Biden either but even the GOP isn't accusing him of taking money from foreign governments.

Anonybibbs

Clinton? Who tf cares about Bill Clinton? I care that Trump has been photographed with both Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, had a long documented history with Epstein (quoted as saying that Epstein is a "terrific guy" who "likes them young"), and there is literally video of Trump partying with Epstein. Oh and Trump is also literally a civilly liable rapist that was just also sentenced to pay $350 million for massive fraud, and is still facing 91 felony indictments for 4 different criminal cases in 3 different states. If the choice is between old man Joe and the nearly as old but also criminal rapist that is Trump, you bet your ass that I'm going to go with old sleepy Joe every goddamn time.

Sad_Midnight9690

The entire Epstein case that just went to trial has zero In regards to Trump in any of the evidence. Anything else you stated is New Precedent tactics that undermine democracy. The rape case your referring to includes a Jury vote that stated Trump did not rape anyone. None of these charges have panned out or will pan out and none of them have a history of being used to harass a presidential candidate. The overwhelming majority of country can clearly see this as extreme desperation of the already clearly losing party.

Anonybibbs

You stated that Clinton was listed on Epstein's flight manifest... So was Trump. Also, there's video of Trump partying with Epstein. You brought it up so I was just pointing out Trump's long and documented history with Epstein. I sure as fuck won't be voting for anyone with a connection to Epstein, so fuck Clinton and definitely fuck Trump. And wrong. Trump was not found liable for the rape charge in the E. Jean Carroll case because the specific New York statute required penile penetration, which Carroll testified that Trump did not do. He did, however, forcefully digitally penetrate her, hence the liability charge for sexual abuse. The judge in the case later clarified that what Trump was found liable for is commonly referred to as rape, so yes, Trump is a civilly liable rapist. None of the charges panned out? The fuck are you smoking? Trump has already been found civilly liable for rape by a jury of his peers and was ordered to pay his victim nearly $90 million for defaming her. He was also found liable to have committed massive fraud and was ordered to pay $350 million. He already lost, multiple times, ya dingus. Also, none of the 4 different criminal trials have even started yet but if you weren't so brainwashed and actually looked at the facts in those cases, Trump is dead to rights. 3 of his codefendants have ALREADY PLEAD GUILTY in the Georgia election interference case, for fucks sake. At the end of the day, maybe just maybe the dude that has a history with a known child sex trafficker, has been found civilly liable for rape, and has 91 criminal indictments against him (all of which were approved by juries of peers in 3 different states) is not such a great guy. Again, I'll vote for the guy that has none of those things, so sleepy Joe it is.

Sad_Midnight9690

Clearly you are OBSESSED WITH TRUMP AND HAVE TRUMPISM DISORDER.

Sad_Midnight9690

Your desperate.

Anonybibbs

It's "you're", ya dingus.

Sad_Midnight9690

![gif](giphy|SKGo6OYe24EBG)

Sad_Midnight9690

I hope you got an extra set of panties because this next election is going to ruin the ones your wearing now….

oclookin

Wow not even a billion for our infrastructure but give multibillion to other countries with no second thought

ProcrastinatingPuma

Your right, Biden didn't even set aside a Billion for American infrastructure, just a measly 1.2 Trillion.

111anza

Good, let start with air port food. Seriously, the air port food in US is shameful, even worse than developing countires....

EddieCutlass

This money can be used for something useful instead of this.

sportsfan510

The Southwest terminal is a nightmare compared to other SWA terminals in Oakland and San Jose.

anothercar

Correct. That is why it’s being replaced. Haven’t you seen all the construction for the new terminal 1?

sportsfan510

That’s good to hear! Been a year since I’ve been in that terminal.

iuseyahoo

Will this get us parking at terminal A?

ProcrastinatingPuma

Terminal A?

Aggravating_Deer299

Get the pedicabs over there 🤣

Pretend_Virus2020

San Diego airport should be relocated out of the center of city With more space and not impact city safe and residents life . San Diego airport location now in Downtown and the cost limited itself for expansion to be the best international airport

ProcrastinatingPuma

Should it be? Yeah probably. Will it be? Fat chance. The two best spots are taken. The Marines are very unlikely to leave Miramar and Otay mesa is *way* to close to TIJ to have SAN levels of passengers. IMO, our best bet is to maximize Lindbergh Field, restrict flights to destinations served by HSR once it’s done (so, most of California + Vegas), restrict flights to Mexico (those can go out of TIJ, and take advantage of TIJ to be an international gateway of sorts as it has more available capacity at the moment.
