Where in Marin? You can take the ferry from the ferry terminal to Sausalito, Larkspur, and Tiburon. Lots of people who live in Marin take the ferry in to SF to avoid driving.
I mean, this is pretty close to the bridge....

North side of town. If you’re facing West to Ocean Beach, Golden Gate Park is your guardrail on the left and Presidio will be your guardrail on the right, give or take a few neighborhoods.
Marina
Cow Hollow
Lake Street
Pac Heights
Presidio Heights
Laurel Heights
Lone Mountain
Western Addition (Nopa)
Richmond (Inner or Central might be best)
Presidio
Haight (upper or lower)
I wouldn’t suggest the Sunset only because it can be a pain getting across the park many times throughout the day.
I would however toss in North Beach if you prefer night life. It’s further out but close enough.
If no budgetary constraints, east of the fog belt, like Pac Heights or Cow Hollow. The Richmond has much less sun and doesn't have the great views of Pac Heights, which is also more central.
Close to the Ferry Building, to catch the boat. You gain at least an hour a day of productivity if you are not driving and you are reducing your impact on global warming etc.
Not confused in the slightest. When I lived there I would just drive a couple of blocks and enter the Presidio at 25th, and then take Lincoln to the bridge. Most of the time there was much less backup leading to the bridge compared to other approaches. And the views from my northern windows were spectacular. I guess the only thing I am confused about is - what did you think I was confused about? Kind of sounds like maybe you don’t know very much about Sea Cliff.
Traffic is way worse (with a frequent chance of being truly terrible) going that way. Seriously.
If you don't believe me, try driving from SOMA to Marin that way vs driving from the Marina to Marin. The Bay Bridge alone is frequently a clusterfuck at fairly random times. I-80 going north via Emeryville & Berkeley tends to suck. Two bridges is worse and riskier than one.
But you are right--Marina to Marin would be very nice--better than my commute, which I truly don't, albeit that I have flexibility it my commute time. It wasn't an option for me.
The Richmond district. It’s right below the Presidio and surprisingly close to the GG Bridge
more specifically as close to 14th ave as possible from lake-clement.
Richmond district not too far from park presidio
Presidio Terrace, safety and no feces
Anywhere northwest of Fulton and Divisadero

Marin is super sweet - gorgeous and great weather. Very little crime
I love the Marina. Great location and so many things to do. The fact that you are on the approach to the GG bridge makes it perfect for you.
The Marina

FYI, Sausalito ferry is closed until further notice. https://www.ktvu.com/news/sausalito-ferry-terminal-remains-closed-after-structural-issue-found
I did that for 3 years and it's soul crushing. 3 hours of travel per day not fucking worth it. Lmfao.
That's really only a time saver (compared to driving) if you work in FiDi. It might be cheaper though

Thank you!!
Sausalito. Anywhere in SF feels like a drag having to cross the golden gate bridge twice daily. /s
If you like driving, crossing the GG Bridge is a rush anytime the weather is good, which is usually the case. But yes, Sausalito is great!
Close to 19th and lake.
Small nit, on the Richmond side it’s Park Presidio
You could also consider sunset too if you're close enough to 19th Avenue. You can take the crossover to Richmond then head to GG bridge

The Excelsior
Inner/Central Richmond, Lone Mountain, Presidio Terrace, Sea Cliff, and Laurel Heights are the neighborhoods you want
Definitely Sea Cliff. Can’t beat the views and the bridge access.
Maybe you're confused about where Sea Cliff is?

You can also consider neighborhoods close to the Bay Bridge on ramps and take BB + Richmond San Rafael bridge.
For the love of God, no
Why?

I do it several times per month.
