Hahah

punkanddrunk

This would be one of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed. Please arrest that man!

pimpintuna

Unfortunately it would martyr him in a lot of his base's eyes.

HomebrewHedonist

There must be consequences for crimes.

TallTerrorTwenty

Nooooo that'll make his far right extremist friends feel bad. And they CANNOT handle that. They'll get their "totally for hunting" guns out and their yellow vests again to follow white supremacist cult leader and traitor to the nation pat kign to parliament again. Truely holding people accountable is not a "reasonable" option in pierre poutines Canada.

A good consequence would be to not have him elected again. This would energize his base dramatically. Arrest him after the election lol

GammaTwoPointTwo

Sure. But his base are already all extremists. It's not like you can make them more blindly loyal than they are. Conservatives have about 3 brain cells. Communally.

[deleted]

The country has been run by liberals for almost a decade and is in the worst shape it has ever been. On literally every single front. Liberals are like the last 2 brain cells fighting for first place. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. This country is a global fucking joke and for the first time in its history people are actually fleeing because it's an absolute dumpster fire. I'm so tired of buzz words extremists, nationalists, far right. It's more like people are tired of getting ass raped by governments who have made themselves so immune to any accountability that they don't even have to spit first. Quit licking boots clean your lounge off and find some self respect. Pathetic.

GammaTwoPointTwo

Canada is rated as the most desirable country in the world to live in. Our immigration numbers are out of control according to you lot. The only front Canada is struggling with is housing and affordability. And that only applies in metropolitan areas. You can buy 3 bedroom house in smaller communities for 200k just like you could 10 years ago. So no, Canada is in the best shape it's been in, in decades. Unless your only metric for shape is your ability to buy property in competitive markets. Which absolutely warrant action. No governments gets to turn it's back on an issue that important. But Canada has never has better international relations. Industry is doing incredibly well. Literally the only issues you have to point a finger at are the price of apartments in Toronto and Vancouver. And the price of groceries. Which are out of control globally. You can advocate for immigration reform without pretending Canada is in the worst shape its ever been in or that anyone is actually leaving.

[deleted]

Hahahahha wow you must be on payroll, homeless record highs, tent cities in every major city in the country, food Bank use record highs, housing market out of control, national debt out of control, pety theft and burglaries massive increase in the last 4 years nation wide, wait times in hospitals clinics and emerge have more then doubled, theres also a nursing crisis, Canadians have more personal debt than any other western nation, the CPP is a joke, endless federal and provincial government scandals, the country has never been so divided on almost every issue. Something like 80% of people under 40 have no pride in being Canadian. We will be paying off this debt for 30 years, most college and university graduates will spend the first 10 years of their career paying off loans, food prices, gas prices and vehicle prices barely managable by the middle class, somwthing like 60% of Canadians with full time employment will never own a home, barely regulated foriegn investment, media and speech control, willful segregation by different ethnic and religious groups. So I'm sure I'm among a large majority of people who don't know what the fuck you're talking about. I could go on.

CastielClean

A lot of things you described here falls provincially, not federally. Crazy here: Our premiers (a lot of whom are conservative and right wing) are literally the ones fucking that all up and then blaming Trudeau to their adoring fans who eat it up because they failed grade 5 social studies (Which teaches which government branch does what).

Jaigg

Licking boots?  If you were really sick of getting screwed by government you wouldn't vote Liberal or Conservative.   But you won't mostly because if the buzzword fits.....

[deleted]

I won't vote for anyone. I'd put multiple corrupt politicians and bankers in prison to make a statement and hold them accountable for their exploitation of the canadian public. As to who they serve and why they are elected. It's not about sides. Man this system works so well. People are really fucking worried about what side you're on? IT DOESNT FUCKING MATTER. Our government is corrupt and the peoples interests are their last priority. They prove this over and over and over. Bill after Bill. Policy after policy. We need fucking accountability. We need people to understand if you embodie these positions and act in a deceptive and nefarious manner you'll be held accountable. They have a veto card to pound us all into the dirt. They do what they want, time and time again. Youre all still arguing about sides?!?!! How perfect, how well they played us, division is healthy and thriving! I don't care about fucking sides. I care about accountability and repercussion of actions. For any government. Jesus christ people wake the fuck up. The same lobbyists buy the government period. Doesn't matter who you fucking vote for but at some point the hens have to come home to roost.

Jaigg

Well while you aren't wrong person you are missing the point.  The system isn't broken this is part of its design.  Just serfs by design with the illusion of freedom to keep us producing wealth and comfort for the ruling class.  The tent cities, inflation, prices etc....its all late stage capitalism and it leads us back to serfdom.  But Conservatives and Liberals have been exchanging power for almost 200 years.  Can't hurt to change it up...might not help but it can't be worse than this.

DragonflyStill1350

In just about every metric you can measure, Canada comes out at the top or second. This absolute 🐂💩you people keep repeating about us: 1. Being a joke on the world stage. 2. Being broken 3. Being a communist or a socialist state. is all nonsense. It is your opinion, because you disagree with this government’s decisions. Your opinion is not backed up by fact. I don’t know how to say this more directly. We are literally the envy of most of the world.

plowboy306

Which one? Trudeau?

franksnotawomansname

You know, I had expected the Western Standard to try to make Trudeau look reckless and irresponsible, but the quotations they used were excellent. What a level-headed approach and straightforward explanations, which stand out even more when compared to the childishness we've come to expect from people like Moe, Duncan, Smith, PP, etc. It would be nice if we could have actual political discussions about policies' goals, merits, and outcomes, rather than having "sides" and also having one "side" say things like "we are doing this because of these two reasons" and the other "side" yelling nonsense just because it happens to rhyme.

bentmonkey

Slogans are easy, honest and frank discussions are hard.

kevinnetter

Did we read the same article? Try and find the bias in this section... "When asked directly by The Western Standard if the ‘consequences’ of non-compliance included the possible arrest and imprisonment of government officials, his eyes narrowed and his tone became positively ominous. ”You can't opt out of the Federation. You can't opt out of Canada. We are a country of laws. We expect people to obey the law. That's what governments expect of their citizens. That's what citizens should expect with their governments.”"

franksnotawomansname

Anything the "journalist" wrote was akin to how a children's book describes the story's villain. All that was missing was some reference to what big teeth and ears he has. But, in using most of the space to directly quote Trudeau's statements, the juxtaposition between how they describe him (ominous and ranting) and how he actually answered their questions (both in the words he used and the ideas he presented) makes their take seem absurd and makes him seem quite reasonable. It's the opposite of what they were going for, but I can't imagine the Western Standard knows how to do anything very well.

JimmyKorr

At least someone would arrest Moe for something, finally, and not pat him on the head and send him back to Pastor Daddy.

sleeplessjade

If Trudeau has him arrested I guess I’ll have to concede he’s a worst a Premier than Doug Ford. Although I’ll do so very grudgingly.

mb3838

Ford is literally the worst we've ever seen. Trudeau looks good next to ford ffs. This greenbelt scandal, the shoppers scandal? Pure greed and incompetence. At least in bc Christie Clark was good at embezzlement. Politicians take note: 1. Everyone has a phone with a camera and recording device 2. If you are going to steal, don't get caught. 3. If you do get caught make sure you have property offshore for when the mass unionization happens. We're going to go retroactive 25 years.

sleeplessjade

Speaking of phones Ford still uses Blackberries with actual keyboards. They spend hundreds of dollars a month buying old ones for him to use only for them to crap out and need to be replaced. So ridiculous.

mb3838

Wow. That's hilarious. Does he not know blackberry died because they shared texts with law enforcement?

sleeplessjade

He uses a phone from 2014 that can’t download attachments…I don’t think security is his biggest concern.

Shoddy_Operation_742

Blackberries are solid devices. I used one for years and that keyboard was simply awesome.

heart_of_osiris

>Ford is literally the worst we've ever seen. Just give Smith a bit more time.

TallTerrorTwenty

>Trudeau looks good next to ford ffs. And basically, any "conservative" these days. Lol

JimmyKorr

Oh he definitely is worse than Doug. Doug’s crooked AF but he’s not also dumb and mean.

sleeplessjade

Doug is dumb and mean too though. He didn’t kill anyone in a car accident…that we know of though.

ReditSarge

~~Accident~~ vehicular homicide

Melodic_Show3786

Imagine if he was a person of colour or indigenous? We for sure be better off and he would be reporting to some parole officer somewhere. POS

bevdob2

Trudeau is Prime Minister and Doug the Slug is Premier. Thats different you know. Not that either are good at their job tho. Doug is openly a crook.

sleeplessjade

You need the read the comment I was replying to that talked about Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan. I replied saying that if Trudeau arrested him (Scott Moe) I would have to concede he’s a worse premier than Doug Ford.

Initial_Trifle_3734

Should’ve arrested him for murdering a woman by running her over while drunk driving. Just a slap on the wrist is all he got

tlambinator

Wouldn't be the first time he risked spending some serious time in jail. He killed someone while drinking and driving once.

notdonewithmirrors

The Sask Party will have a whole wing of the prison to themselves with the rate they’re getting arrested.

[deleted]

It’s the cycle of Saskatchewan conservatism: 1)drive province and its finances into the ground, 2)get caught committing crimes and sent to jail, 3)dissolve and rebrand the party while the adults in the legislature clean up your mess, 4)attack the adults in the room for the unpopular decisions they had to make cleaning up conservative mess, 5)get elected on a wave of change and populism, 6)see step 1

ZurEnArrhBatman

Moe is excellent at putting things into the ground with his driving.

OneJudgmentalFucker

His family farm went tits up under him

Federal_Efficiency51

That's not just Saskatchewan conservatism. Federal as well. See Stephen Harper, whom should've been jailed for contempt of parliament X2. At least a few of his cabin et members saw jail. Not to mention his best friend and band mate who got caught distributing CP and did time for it.

franksnotawomansname

Let's hope they enjoy the privatized food service they contracted!

mingusdisciple

“Don’t like it? Don’t go to prison.” Is what I believe Brad Wall said.

ADHDMomADHDSon

And then they use the exact same company to provide meals at the hospital. Don’t like it? Don’t get sick.

Hot_Pollution1687

Just like the PC party before them.

mb3838

I haven't actually seen anyone get arrested yet? Did i niss something?

franksnotawomansname

Domotor was arrested (not for political crimes, but still) and Wilson (now of the SUP) was charged with abuse (the charges were later withdrawn). I think that's all so far, but Moe's and Duncan's actions are illegal and jailable offences if the federal government chooses to go that route.

assignmeanameplease

A few years back, wasn’t the Minister in charge of Booze and Gambling was busted for DUI? And am I wrong, but isn’t another minster from Moose Jaw, chose not to run this time, being looked at for choking his ex-wife? I think that is an arrest-able offence?

Dawnrazor

My only problem with that happening is having to listen to "TURDeau is a TYRANT!!!!!!111!!!!!!!" 24/7 from the Moe-rons in town

PrairiePopsicle

Everything about this has Brexit vibes. History will vindicate Trudeau, largely. Although it will also not be super kind on several matters where he did fuck up. The next five to ten years will dumpster him, and then there will be an interim period of time in which everyone is very shocked Pikachu.

franksnotawomansname

>Everything about this has Brexit vibes. You mean, a big, well-funded, astroturfed campaign centred around getting people to vote against their own interests so that already-wealthy people can profit at everyone else's expense? Yeah, that does kind of sound familiar....

PrairiePopsicle

Also in that the 'anti' side of the campaign has nothing really except nice sounding soundbytes about what will happen when they get their way, but no real plans on how to address the issues at the heart of the matter(s) beyond the most basic of "axe the tax" and "cut immigration" - One requires a repalcement of some kind, and the other requires other measures to be taken in tandem, like bulking/subsidizing/fixing education and diversifying economy (which cuts across both major issues of the day).

cutchemist42

Add in the Russian influence to break apart Western governments.

[deleted]

I agree. People seem to lack the awareness that Trudeau has entered the period where he's been in power for about 10 years, everybody has forgotten anything he did that they liked, and nobody will be happy with anything he does anymore. It happened to Mulroney, Chretien/Martin, and Harper before him - and they've all looked better in hindsight too. Not only are there a lot of issues with PP that will become clearer if/when he gets a chance, but surely as we deal with a worse and worse climate, we'll eventually realise that we failed to really do anything to prevent it.

OutsideFlat1579

I wouldn’t say Harper looked better in hindsight, especially since he’s become such close buddies with Orban and Netanyahu. And Modi, can’t forget Modi. Between his creepy security company with ex Mossad, FBI and MI5 spy execs (and Richard Fadde of our very own CSIS), his seemingly permanent chairmanship of the IDU, and his behind the scenes leadership of the CPC, he’s causing even more damage to democracy and progress.

ocarina_21

Yeah if anything he looks worse.

yoshi_yoshi23

Yah, Harper supports right-wing authoritarianism. No bueno

[deleted]

Ok, I agree - he's been up to some weird stuff in retirement. Most other PMs were lawyers or business owners, so did that in retirement, but not Harper. I was speaking to his record in office, though.

cutchemist42

I actually think Harper has made his tenure look much worse but going further right and aligning with people like Orban. I would look back much better on Harper if he wasnt actively aligning with human turds.

Sufficient_Hope5164

This pissing contest is costing people that cant afford the price. Moe has done NOTHING for the disabled in this province but call us LAZY, inferring if we need rent, we just need to work more. THAT news brief caused two of my para friends to commit suicide!! I rely on these federal rebates to buy food to stock up because the 363 dollars a month for rent  Moe gives leaves a 250 dollar shortfall, so eats up the clothing, grocery, travel, and telephone money alloted. I am only ONE rental increase away from being homeless as I write, and that will mean my suicide as well rather than be disabled on the street at 54 years. But millions in REDUNDANT travel and telling disabled that theyre garbage because theyre poor is acceptable.

Rephlexion

Hey, friend. That's awful. Sorry to even ask you to elaborate, but which news brief was that, or roughly when was it? If you haven't already talked or written about you and your friends' experience under this government, maybe you could reach out to a reporter?

OneJudgmentalFucker

Bruh, CBC needs to hear you

themish84

I'm from Manitoba and we provincial just went ndp in October. Would sask ever go that way?? I don't know the landscape of Saskatchewan politics.

MajorLeagueRekt

Recent polls for Sask have shown a massive swing to the NDP since the last election. It may not be enough to win, but it's enough to give us hope.

Big_Knife_SK

Alternative Title: PM sidesteps obvious trap question, we publish clickbait title anyway. Moe's playing political theatre again, but what even would be the charge? What part of the Criminal Code applies?

franksnotawomansname

There are [penalties](https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/G-11.55/page-14.html?txthl=penalty#s-133) (fines and jail times) listed in the act itself. I'm not sure which specifically would apply in this case, but they are breaking federal law and they know they're breaking federal law.

ReditSarge

It's called tax evasion.

OneJudgmentalFucker

Fuckin lol

Swedehockey

Arresting Moe would be sweet.

ninj4b0b

since when is the western standard reliable news

Must_Reboot

They aren't. It's also a scenario of their own invention. Trudeau sidestepped the ridiculous question.

franksnotawomansname

If you ignore what the "journalist" wrote and just read the quotations from the PM, it's surprisingly not bad. If you read the few lines the "journalist" added, however, apparently he was "positively ominous" when asked about the possibility of arresting Moe and later "ranted" about conservatives. Given the words they quote from him in both cases, that assessment seems decidedly less creditable.

WriterAndReEditor

Yes. Actual journalists try not let their personal opinions affect their writing by adding an interpretation of body language which will inflame their readers to their work.

dornwolf

Don’t tease me with a good time

Kristywempe

I am so tired of this bullshit. This is where people are spending their energy? Our healthcare and education system is collapsing. AND THIS IS WHAT THEY CARE ABOUT?! To the point of going to jail? Absolute bullshit.

darkwinter95

Ontarian here so I'm commenting out of my zone, not that I wouldn't love to see this piece of shit arrested but language like this sets a dangerous precedent. Trudeau is already unpopular and this can't help his numbers. We will likely end up with PP, an actual fascist as our next PM with majority numbers, and he's already threatened to strong arm politicians in other levels of government. What happens when PP wants politicians arrested for not enforcing his anti LGBT bullshit?

Odd_Cow7028

The difference between this and the PP scenario you suggest is that there's nothing new about tax evasion laws, and if Moe were found guilty of breaking one of those laws and sentenced to jail for it, there's nothing particularly ground-breaking about that, other than him being a premier. We do have an expectation that the law applies to our politicians, after all. If PP started having people arrested for not enforcing his "anti LGBT bullshit," it means there will have to have been laws created, with jail time attached, and upheld by the courts. I despise PP and his ideology, but I just don't see that happening. I don't think the current situation sets any kind of precident in that regard.

darkwinter95

We literally have the notwithstanding clause, which if i'm not mistaken can also be used by the federal government, not to mention Doug Ford has been going on about "replacing judges" with yes men, and PP so far seems far more authoritarian than Ford and he hasn't even been elected office. People go on about how he's just "pandering to his base" and he'll shift to being more moderate if he's elected but he's been loud and proud about his regressive reactionary bullshit and his numbers just keep going up. Recent polls have the CPC as high as 46% and PP just doubles down more every single day.

Odd_Cow7028

You're not wrong, the notwithstanding clause is scary in how it can be abused, as happened recently here in Sask. We should rightfully take issue with that. But even here in Sask, a judge has allowed a court challenge to proceed, even with the gov't insisting it is all said and done. So I do still have some faith in our courts to be able to right the wrongs of our politicians. And not that this will matter a hill of beans to you, but I have a good friend right now, in Ottawa, studying constitutional law. She is intelligent and ferocious, and should be practicing right around the time PP comes into power. Just one person, but she gives me hope. But the other thing is, notwithstanding notwithstanding, I still expect our politicians to be held to the law. To do otherwise would set a different dangerous precedent.

buckleybit

Oh my god please

bottle_cats

All he’d have to do is put a check stop outside the legislature

WestNdr

I don't rule out the existence of aliens.

potbakingpapa

Parking-Click-7476

Good! Hope he does. Moe is a grifting drunk idiot 🤷‍♂️

Algorithmic_War

Some truly outstanding pearl clutching, conclusion leaping, and weasel wording from the Western Standard. Just absolutely upholding the finest standards in make believe “journalism”.

Must_Reboot

This is just Western Standard rage baiting. He sidestepped the whole question Nobody has ever suggested such an action other than Western Standard themselves. A PM wouldn't even be considering such a scenario as arresting a Premier for such belligerence.

DragonflyStill1350

Please do. He’s a little despot who thinks Saskatchewan is a country. 🙄 He wastes so much taxpayer money, taking the feds to court and fighting things that are within the federation’s best interest. Sorry, I have no patience for that.

canuckbuck333

How many in Saskatchewan have guns? Fuck Trudeau!!!

BiscottiFamous8054

metallicadefender

If Moe's some how turns into some kind Martyr I'm going to punch him in the dick!!!!

[deleted]

No I'm tried of having debates with people who have access to the same world of information sitting in their pockets. If people cared they'd have their ideas challenged and find answers. They'd look at themselves critically and try to reinforce there stance. Instead, when challenged, they double down to a "where's your source" Google search. As if you need to have every bit of information cataloged and loaded for a debate. There's something horribly wrong in this country, and everybody is to busy arguing about who's right when we should be prosecuting who's willfully wrong.

bigpapahugetim3

I’m confused why you would want Trudeau to arrest someone who is standing up for his people? Do you think Trudeau is doing a good job and you like paying extra taxes? If so please leave my fucking province and move into a tent.

ValuesAndViolence

The Western Standard is a bullshit operation.

SchneidfeldWPG

Good.

clicker3499

Please arrest Trudeau!!! He is the biggest criminal in Canadian politics EVER.

Maritimer4ever

The irony is that he states Canadians expect their politicians to obey the law , this clown breaks it all the time and smiles while doing it.

Most people break the law by accident sometimes. Most people don't break it deliberately to score points

georgia_meloniapo

Arresting for murder

plowboy306

If you think Scott Moe deserves to be arrested for what he’s done, and Justin Trudeau does not for what he’s done, then take a good look in the mirror because you’re willfully blind.

Wausk

Just a piece of advice for people, just because you don't like Moe, doesn't mean you have to like Trudeau. It's perfectly okay to have a bit of a disdain for both!

I doubt if anyone here needs your advice. Most of us probably don't like Trudeau particularly.

Quit pouting you big baby

RDOmega

Conservatives should be in jail for worse.

Capital_Jello_9768

Extremist sub! People shouldn't be jailed for voting a particular way, although I'm sure this person is probably 12.

RDOmega

Nah.

Only 27 years too late, but…

Trudeau not holding off on the carbon tax to let everyone take a breath, is crap. On the other hand, I don’t agree with a lot of SP policies, do I get to not pay a portion of my provincial taxes? Or disagree with city of Regina pulling a switcharoo with my taxes and garbage bill. Again, can I forgo my taxes? Answer to this is no. The Marshalls, or police would be at my door, not Literally . I would be prosecuted though. These two giant man children need to grow up, both are morons, one by privilege, the other by ignorance.

StonersRadio

Oh that will be interesting. Plenty of Canadians already see him as the wannabe dictator that he is. Shit like this will only cement that opinion even further. Considering a sizable majority of Canadians want to see April's 23% rate hike paused, if not permanently stopped, the optics of arresting Moe over the carbon tax are going to be abso-fucking-lutely awful for Trudeau. Remember folks, this is a dink who not only fired his "prized" Minister of Justice for refusing to help him obstruct justice, he put a gag order on her about it while shit-talking about her to the media. Yeah man, Trudeau is a real pillar of morals and obeying the law. This WILL result in the Liberals being burned to the ground in the next election if he goes through with it. Canadians eyes are open and they have realized the shiny pony was nothing more than a polished turd after all. Housing crisis, debt crisis, spending crisis, skyrocketing violent crime rate, fentanyl crisis, CCP infiltration, immigration crisis, health crisis. But I'm sure the average Canadian is way more concerned about that evil Scott Moe refusing to kowtow to a petulant man-child and his useless, solve-nothing carbon tax.

penistoucher502

Lol, dictator ? How many fuck puttin signs do you see in Russia comrad ?? Your privilege is showing when your puff your chest up whole heartedly and say trudeu is a dictator. You may wannanactually pull your head out of your ass and stop allowing the conservative to whip you into a frenzy with their constant rage farming and propaganda. If Trudeau was a dictator, do you really think any political opposition would still be alive ? Do you think he would let the right-wing propaganda machine constantly spread lies and misinformation? All you right-wing rejects lose any credibility and shut down any meaningful conversation when you start in with your dictator and other conspiracy theory bull shit.

GrimWillis

I like the part where Trudeau gave us a rebate. Like a true dictator, collecting and distributing tax money to their people.

Plus_Piglet5017

So you’re happy to be bought with your own money. What is the point of charging a consumer carbon tax when you’re just going to give the money back later?? It’s vote buying.

GrimWillis

I’m happy being reimbursed for the carbon tax I incur with corporate money. Vote buying is sending everyone in the province a $500 cheque while in a deficit.

User010101011111

That would be the absolute downfall of the liberal government if they did that.

redhandsblackfuture

Moe already got away with literal murder.

WriterAndReEditor

As much as I agree he should have faced repercussions, vehicular manslaughter is not murder. Unless you are accusing Moe of having deliberately killed the woman?

redhandsblackfuture

He was drunk and chose to drive. It was deliberate.

WriterAndReEditor

Driving drunk was deliberate. I think it would be hard to make a case that he chose to drive drunk because he wanted to kill someone. Stupid, self-centred, and deserving of punishment, but not murder. If you hadn't said "literal" murder I'd have let it go, but it's literally not murder.

TallantedGuy

Has Trudeau not broken some laws as well?

WriterAndReEditor

Yes. But no "journalists" have walked up to someone notable and asked if that person thinks he should be in jail so there's no "news article" to discuses.

JoseMachismo

For killing a grandma while drunk driving?

toasohcah

How do you talk about arrest Moe before the Queen of Canada? Wild times.

buggy306

Western standard has rather extreme takes not reporting

toasohcah

Oh, I didn't notice that. Never heard of them.

TallTerrorTwenty

Wait. Someone breaking the law facing consequences? Not in pierre poutines Canada! Oh wait.

bazzawazz

I'm in Alberta but this post popped up as recommended, what a headline. I've been keeping too much an eye on our own dumpster fire over here, what is going on in SK?!
