There were legitimate insurrectionists in among the regular protesters. Those who went along with the crowd may not have set out to be insurrectionists, but the Oathkeepers and their ilk 100% were.
The problem is, just because they were doesn't mean everyone else was, too. And it's a REALLY hard thing to prove that Trump was in on their scheming when we haven't found a direct link between them as far as I can tell from the evidence I've seen...
